Fase, Cell 3ra. Fase, Androide No. 16 y Cell.

This is another surprising gift from my brother, who is a collector as well. They are small size statues of PVC (between 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" high, a bit smaller than normal gashapons) which come with their own translucent bases, that include tampos of the name of the respective character in Japanese.
The detail and paint job, for its size, is very good and the series has a wide assorted of Dragon ball Z figures. They come in color and sepia versions. Each set has three figures, one of them hidden in a box inside the card (blind box type) and it seems, that these boxed figures are always different from the other two.
The characters included are: Vegeta Super Saiyan, Gohan Super Saiyan, Android # 20, Android # 17, Gokou Super Saiyan, Cells Jrs., Trunks Super Saiyan, Gokou, Android # 16, Vegeta Super Saiyan, Gokou Super Saiyan, Cell 2nd Fase, Cell 3rd Fase, Android # 16 and Cell.
These figures are super cool, I myself have collected quite a few of these in recent years. However I was informed by a fellow collector that they weren't originally known as the Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Figure Series. They were originally released in Japan by Bandai under the name Dragon Ball Z Soul of Hyper Figuration and they came in blind boxes. It wasn't until Jakks Pacific re-released them in the US that they became known as the Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Figure Series, this name change was to help these minifigures coincide with Jakks Pacific's 5 inch articulated action figure line of the same name. The interesting thing about the US re-release is that they mainly released the Android/Cell Saga figures from this line.
You’re right !!!... Once I checked the card of one of these sets, I noticed the Jakks Pacific logo on the top right, but I became familiar with such brand some time later so I just put the FUNimation credit... It’s a bit weird that a franchise usually managed by Bandai, were also exploited by Jakks Pacific, that is a brand more targeted to the western market; but on the other hand, since my brother sent me these sets from New York, it makes sense that he was able to get them there... Actually, I couldn’t get them here anyway, since they were never available in the local market and ordering them would involve a final price too high to consider it... The figures are splendid, the sculpt is intricate, much more considering their size, it’s a great gift in fact !!!...
Yeah these figures are really cool but they've gotten very expensive in recent years. You can usually find them on ebay being sold separately for around $10 a piece!!! When I started collecting these when they released in the US, I could only find them at Toys R Us, they weren't very good sellers if I remember correctly but I still liked them.
When I visited New York city recently, some of my "mandatory stops" were in a few Toys R Us located in different counties (on purpose, obviously) and my experience there was pretty much the same I would find in any other toy store, except that their assortment was far better than toys sections in other retail and/or department stores (yet, not as good as more specialized toy stores)...
I wasn’t expecting too much in terms of customer service or expertise from their sellers, since only other collectors could understand your tastes or choices when it comes to collectibles... What I found very disappointing was the fact that the same item had a different price tag, depending on the location of the store... You take for granted that such variations on prices are not admissible in branch stores of the same franchise...
