ENGLISH There is a fact that many enthusiasts of the automotive industry forget: some vehicles which are part of our everyday, were firstly developed for military applications and despite their transition to civilian life, these are a reminder of how the armed conflicts affect our life for better or worse... One of them is undoubtedly the iconic Jeep, which is so singular, that actually the brand became a noun to designate any vehicle within this typology.
These high mobility off-roads were intended to work on the most demanding conditions and the Army of the United States is specially strict when it comes to their multipurpose vehicles.
Probably, that’s the reason why these jeeps have passed the test of time and not only that, but these are extremely versatile, both in the military life as in the civilian.
The legend of the Jeep began with the Willys MB, a compact four-wheel drive utilitarian vehicle, used extensively during the World War II.
The production of such vehicle, in the amounts needed, could not be made by a single company; hence, American Bantam Car Company, Ford and Willys-Overland Motors (the three bidders involved in its development) were commissioned for this work.
There was plenty of "spare units" after such war so, the idea of creating a civilian version was on the table.
Due to certain particular circumstances (which maybe I will discuss in a future publication), Willys-Overland Motors was the sole owner of the "Jeep" term / trademark and, in due time, created the civilian version of the Jeep also known as Willys CJ or just Jeep CJ.
The 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ Sport 4x4 Topless , a Compact Light Off-Road 2-Door Open-Bodied / Soft Top / SUV, I’m publishing today, is a direct descendant of the World War II Jeep and belongs to the second generation of the Wrangler (1997-2006).
At some point between 1986 and 1987, Chrysler Corporation (currently Chrysler Group LLC), acquired the Jeep brand (along with its former owner: American Motors Corporation) and designed the first Wrangler (also known as YJ).
With the introduction of this model, the Jeep reached a higher status and surpassed in sales the famous CJ.
Unlike the previous generation, this model received recessed round headlights (that are more faithful to the original Jeep) and the whole body design was updated, with a fresh combination of curves and straight lines, looking neater, almost like a white canvas, where you can "paint" whatever you want of it, with the massive offer of accessories available both from factory as from aftermarket suppliers.
The responsible for this wise design was Michael Santoro and it was developed since 1993.
It had several options of trim levels (15 in total) and the one featured here was manufactured from 1997 to 2006.
It came standard with a 242 cu in, 4.0 L, Power Tech Inline 6 gasoline engine (made by AMC), rated at 190 hp; coupled to an Aisin AX-15 5-speed manual transmission, also it had 4x4 part-time traction...
The Jeep universe is so fascinating that it must be revisited, in order to understand the origin of this automotive myth!...
I think is the first and only time you will see in my blog, a model by this german brand: Siku, property of Sieper GmbH and located in Lüdenscheid.
I’m not particularly involved with this brand, specially because of its scarce availability in my country and the fact that the european brands of diecast (as well as the japanese brands) are punished with higher taxes, which make them expensive.
This company has several lines of products, working mainly with 1:87, 1:55, 1:50 and 1:32 scales (the latter is used for their RC line).
I would say that despite their standards, this model is 1:55 scale (officially 1:50!?) and is simply delicious.
It has diecast body and black plastic chassis, the level of detail and finishes is excellent, the paint job in this case is dark olive green polychrome (available also in red, medium blue, yellow, white and silver), the fender flares received a touch of paint as well as the head and tail lights.
Being a topless, the windshield is a separate piece, it has the bar structure which supports the soft top very well molded and the interiors in grey are quite realistic.
Finally, the work on the wheels is outstanding, albeit they are not multipart, the level of detail is really good and the rim design quite sporty, with a beautiful silver finishing.
If this is going to be my only Siku, then a Jeep must be the perfect choice for me!...
Num 14:27-33 "How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against ME? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against ME. Say unto them, as truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you: your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me, doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised. But as for you, your carcasses, they shall fall in this wilderness. And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcasses be wasted in the wilderness."
My first impression of this die cast is G1 Hound from Transformers. My dad was a jeep driver during the time he was serving the army, trained by Israeli instruction at the time when national serve just started in Singapore. Lots of praises from him of how jeep in difficult terrains. The kind of engineering that last a long way. I not familiar with Siku nonetheless the paint work and texture seems good. Btw, is the frame of the canopy detachable or probably have canvas for canopy for a different look.
the Jeep was the high mobility multipurpose vehicle of the Allies in the WWII and probably outnumbered other military vehicles in terms of production... many countries around the world used the Jeep too and was the base for the design of other offroads, like the Toyota FJ in Japan or the Gaz in Russia... these cars are very reliable and easy to repair/mantain (a heritage of their military life), so your father is quite right praising them... finally, nope, this diecast comes as you can see it, no accessories or soft top, but actually i prefer this way, since it lets you watch the prolix interiors !!! =)
firstly LEon, thanks for visiting once more my blog =)... secondly, well, the Jeep in green looks really good, more in tune with its environment: where the road ends and the nature begins, i think is the better color option available for this model and the one i see the least so, it was a great finding for me !!!... =)

From now, I will be publishing basically the same contents in both blogs, but for reviews before March 18, 2019, you must read my Blogger blog...
I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
