Hay algo inherente a los deportes en general y a los deportes a motor en particular, algo que casi pasa desapercibido porque es procesado por nuestro lado emocional, más que por nuestro lado racional y es el factor entretenimiento... 

Los deportes involucran disciplina, esfuerzo, tesón; por decirlo así, los deportistas son el equivalente más cercano a los antiguos hermitaños o monjes y debido a su vocación, se "desconectan" del mundo que los rodea y siguen un riguroso entrenamiento con el fin de tener éxito en competencia... 

Pero una vez la competición tiene lugar, llegan a ser "figuras públicas", ellos quieren ganar y quieren recibir el reconocimiento derivado de su triunfo; obviamente, hay testigos del evento o hazaña y en el proceso, una disciplina deportiva se convierte en espectáculo... 

Alguien podría reclamar que esto es consecuencia del surgimiento de los medios masivos de comunicación y, por tanto, algo característico de la era moderna, pero ha sido un elemento crucial desde las primeras justas deportivas en la antigua Grecia o incluso antes. 

Lo que los medios masivos de comunicación han aportado a los deportes es hacerlos una poderosa herramienta de posicionamiento de marca y por eso es que estos mueven cientos o incluso miles de millones de dólares en un solo evento. 

Los deportes a motor son básicamente máquinas de hacer dinero en muchos sentidos y la Serie IndyCar (actualmente Serie Verizon IndyCar) no es la excepción, especialmente siendo el primer nivel de las carreras con ruedas descubiertas en Norteamérica. 

Bajo la figura de patrocinio, la Serie IndyCar ha cambiado su nombre y entre 2009 y 2013, el patrocinador titular fue IZOD of London, una compañía de vestuario que trabaja en el mismo segmento de Ralph Lauren, Nautica, Tommy Hilfiger o Lacoste. 

Entonces, los deportes a motor como la Serie IndyCar o la Serie Fórmula 1 son más que nada un asunto de negocio, un negocio del entretenimiento para ser más preciso y este hecho tiene algunas implicaciones o lado oscuro si quieres. 

Si bien cuerpos sancionatorios como IndyCar están inspeccionando las regulaciones para mejorar la seguridad en competición, no es un secreto que no siempre fue de esta forma y que, con el fin de favorecer el factor entretenimiento, muchas vidas de pilotos han sido puestas en riesgo, con consecuencias fatales, ya sea por causa de fallas en los autos, las pistas de carreras o las reglas en sí... 

Esta vez estoy introduciendo un modelo creado por Hot Wheels y basado en el Coche de Carreras Dallara IR05 Serie IZOD / IndyCar para Óvalos de 2011. 

Curiosamente, la marca azul de Mattel tiene varios moldes basados en carros Indy, más o menos fieles a los vehículos reales, como el Turbo Streak, el Thunderstreak, el No Fear Race Car (conocido más tarde como Hot Wheels 500, presentado en una publicación anterior aquí y también en la presente sesión de fotos), el IZOD IndyCar Series y el Honda Indy Car. 

Vale la pena mencionar que Dallara Automobili es un diseñador y fabricante de carros italiano para las principales fórmulas del automovilismo, fundada en Varano Melegari y que el modelo IR05 fue reemplazado más tarde por el DW12. 

Este modelo es tristemente célebre porque estuvo involucrado en un choque fatal de 15 vehículos en la carrera IZOD IndyCar World Championship de 2011, que tuvo lugar en Las Vegas Motor Speedway, en la cual Daniel (Dan) Wheldon, piloto de carreras británico, falleció... 

No hay indicio sobre el diseñador involucrado en el desarrollo de este molde, lo cual es una lástima, porque está muy bien ejecutado, teniendo en mente que fue lanzado para la línea principal. 

Ha tenido 12 iteraciones hasta aquí y fue lanzado originalmente con construcción completa en diecast, pero en asunto de unos pocos meses, el chasis fue hecho en plástico, lo que es indignante porque la cantidad total de diecast en este modelo es mínima, ¡qué puñado de adictos a la reducción de costos tenemos en casa matriz de Hot Wheels =PPPPP!... 

Conseguí dos muestras, con la ayuda de dos amigos, colegas coleccionistas e importadores; en el caso de uno de estos modelos, estoy seguro que no estaba disponible a través de los canales regulares de distribución. 

La primera muestra pertenece a la Serie Team Hot Wheel, parte de las líneas regulares; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en negro brillante presentando una decoración temática de "hielo y fuego", con tampos en blanco, rojo, amarillo, azul y gris, no es una decoración de carreras "formal", pero es algo agradable en mi opinión; los interiores en rojo incluyeron al piloto y las ruedas plásticas presentan el diseño de rimes Phil Riehlman 5 Spoke en negro, con un contorno rojo metalizado. 

La segunda muestra es un modelo tributo o conmemorativo para Dan Wheldon y si bien fue lanzado como parte de la línea regular, sus características lo hacen más emparentado con lo que esperas de la Serie (Super-Hidden) Treasure Hunts; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en burgundi, con acabado Spectraflame, complementado por blanco perlado, con tampos y/o calcomanías adicionales en blanco, azul metalizado, negro, dorado y rojo, muy apropiado y elegante. 

Los interiores fueron trabajados en negro; las ruedas multiparte presentan diseño de rimes Real Riders Turbine en cromado con tampos blancos de Lion Heart sobre las llantas de caucho labradas; finalmente ambas muestras fueron hechas en Malasia y ambas tienen chasis en plástico cromado...

There is something inherent to sports in general and to motorsports in particular, something that nearly goes unnoticed because it’s processed by our emotional side, rather than by our rational side and it’s the entertainment factor... 

Sports involve discipline, effort, determination; so to say, sportsmen are the closest equivalent to the old hermits or monks and due to their vocation, they "disconnect" from the world around them and follow a rigurous training in order to succeed in competition... 

But once the competition takes place, they become "public figures", they want to win and they want to receive the acknowledgement derived from their success; obviously, there are witnesses of the event or feat and in the process, a sports discipline becomes spectacle... 

Someone may claim that it’s a consequence of the emergence of the mass media and hence, something characteristic of the modern era, but it has been a crucial element since the first sports jousting in the ancient Greece or even before. 

What mass media has contributed to sports is to make them a powerful tool for brand positioning and that’s why these move hundreds or even billions of dollars in a single event. 

Motorsports are basically money machines in many senses and the IndyCar Series (currently Verizon IndyCar Series) is no exception, specially being the premier level of open wheel racing in North America. 

Under the figure of sponsorship, the Indycar Series has changed its name and between 2009 and 2013, the title sponsor was IZOD of London, a clothing company that works in the same segment of Ralph Lauren, Nautica, Tommy Hilfiger or Lacoste. 

Then, motorsports like the Indycar Series or the Formula 1 Series are more than anything a matter of business, an entertainment business to be precise and this fact has some implications or dark side if you want. 

While sanctionating bodies like IndyCar are inspecting the regulations to improve the safety in competition, it’s not a secret that it was not always this way and that, in order to favor the entertainment factor, many lives of pilots have been put at risk, with fatal consequences, either because of flaws in the cars, the race tracks or the rules themselves... 

This time I’m introducing a model created by Hot Wheels and based on the 2011 Dallara IR05 IZOD / IndyCar Series Oval Course Racing Car. 

Curiously, the blue brand of Mattel has several casts based on Indy cars, more or less faithful to the actual vehicles, like the Turbo Streak, the Thunderstreak, the No Fear Race Car (later known as Hot Wheels 500, featured in a previous publication here and also in the present photoshoot), the IZOD IndyCar Series and the Honda Indy Car. 

It’s worth mentioning that Dallara Automobili is an italian designer and manufacturer of cars for different major motor racing formulas, founded in Varano Melegari and that the IR05 model was later replaced by the DW12. 

This model is sadly famous because it was involved in a fatal crash of 15 vehicles in the 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship race, that took place in the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, in which Daniel (Dan) Wheldon, british race driver, died... 

There is no hint about the designer involved in the development of this cast, which is a shame, because it was very well executed, bearing in mind that it was released for the mainline. 

It has had 12 iteration so far and it was originally released with full diecast construction, but in a matter of a few months, the chassis was made in plastic, which is outrageous because the total amount of diecast in this model is minimum, what a bunch of costs-reduction junkies we have in the headquarters of Hot Wheels =PPPPP!... 

I got two samples, with the help of two friends, fellow collectors and importers; in the case of one of these models, I’m sure that it was not available through the regular channels of distribution. 

The first sample belongs to the Team Hot Wheel Series, part of the regular lines; the paint job was made in glossy black featuring an "ice and fire" theme decoration, with tampos en white, red, yellow, blue and gray, not a "formal" racing livery, but it’s something nice in my opinion; the interiors in red included a pilot and the plastic wheels feature Phil Riehlman 5 Spoke rims design in black, with metallic red contour. 

The second sample is a tribute or memorial model for Dan Wheldon and while it was released as part of the regular line, its features make it more related with what you expect from the (Super-Hidden) Treasure Hunts Series; the paint job was made in burgundy, with Spectraflame finishing, complemented by pearled white, with additional tampos and/or decals in white, metallic blue, black, golden and red, very appropriate and elegant. 

The interiors were worked in black; the multipart wheels feature Real Riders Turbine rims design in chrome with white Lion Heart tampos on the styled rubber tires; finally both samples were made in Malaysia and both have chrome plastic chassis...
