Siempre pensé que la era Muscle Car fue demasiado corta respecto a lo que significó para la cultura norteamericana del auto y lo he mencionado varias veces en publicaciones anteriores... 

Con dificultad, esta clase de vehículos se las arregló para sobrevivir por alrededor de 10 años y con todo, su impacto en la cultura popular moderna apenas ha disminuido, a pesar del pasar de las décadas... 

Podrías decir que fue a duras penas un fenómeno cultural local de los Estados Unidos y hasta cierto punto es verdad; el término mismo fue acuñado allí y los Muscle Cars tienen tantas particularidades, que no podrías encontrar algo de su tipología en otros países o mercados... 

Bueno, con la excepción ilustre de Australia, la cual desarrolló sus propios especímenes, principalmente debido a que los tres grandes jugadores de la industria del coche norteamericana tienen subsidiarias en la Oceanía Continental y el increíblemente elusivo y singular Jensen Interceptor, un carro británico. 

Pero tan difícil de creer como podría ser, hay muchos entusiastas de los autos alrededor del mundo que harían y pagarían cualquier cosa para poseer un Muscle Car. 

Sí !!! Países Bajos, Suecia, Noruega, Suiza, Alemania, España, Dinamarca, Rusia o Japón, son países donde puedes hallar amantes de los Muscle Cars y la lista continua (incluyendo mi patria, por ejemplo)... 

Vale la pena mencionar que hubo un tímido renacimiento del segmento Muscle Car durante los 80s, cuando un puñado de coches audaces y encajados rindieron homenaje a los sementales de la era dorada y fueron héroes, ya que las secuelas de la crisis petrolera de los 70s estaban todavía en pleno furor, pero su desempeño no fue tan indignante como aquel de los originales... 

Sin embargo, lo que podríamos llamar un renacimiento más consistente de los Muscle Cars empezó en 2005, cuando la quinta generación del Mustang de alguna forma puso de nuevo a este tipo de vehículos en el foco de atención, con tal éxito que Dodge y más tarde Chevrolet crearon nuevas interpretaciones de las viejas glorias. 

El Coupé Techo Duro 2 Puertas Dodge Challenger SRT-8 Custom Carrocería Ancha de 2010 es un delicioso contrasentido que trajo de vuelta el impúdico encanto de los Muscle Cars clásicos; ciertamente aprovechó el boom generado por el Mustang y, en mi humilde opinión, fue más allá. 

Justo como en el Pony Car creado por Ford, Dodge fue seducida por el retrofuturismo, una tendencia evidente en el negocio automotriz actual, sin importar la marca en cuestión y creo que es un enfoque grandioso que ha dado frutos... 

Mis impresiones sobre el diseño del carro y sus especificaciones serán compartidas en una publicación futura así que, echémosle un vistazo a la réplica a escala con la que estamos tratando esta vez... 

Es un nuevo año y comienzo introduciendo una nueva marca de diecast a mi blog y a mi colección: Auto World; no estaba muy consciente de su existencia hasta su resurgimiento de la mano de Thomas Lowe, el hombre que tomó las riendas de Johnny Lightning recientemente... 

Estoy convencido que este tipo tiene el toque dorado, porque su trabajo con las marcas de diecast en su portafolio ha sido muy consistente, ahora más nuevos y viejos coleccionistas conocen sobre estos productos, ¡lo que es fabuloso!... 

Pero Auto World no es una recién llegada en el mercado del diecast NO, en realidad la compañía fue fundada en 1958, por Oscar Kovelesky, en Scranton, Pennsylvania y comenzó como una tienda de hobbies con un amplio surtido de artículos como: model kits plásticos, autos de carreras en pista grandes y pequeños, modelos propulsados a gasolina, suministros para construcción desde cero, pintura y pistolas rociadoras, también su especialidad eran las órdenes por correo. 

Como sucedió en el caso de Johnny Lightning, Tom Lowe estuvo detrás del renacimiento de Auto World, a través de su compañía apropiadamente llamada Round 2 y el modelo publicado hoy es una muestra de la segunda etapa de esta marca nostálgica, que ahora trabaja además con réplicas en diecast. 

Pertenece a la Serie True L.E. (Edición Limitada, por sus siglas en inglés) y encarna un enfoque completamente inédito, diferente a lo que hemos conocido sobre ediciones limitadas hasta aquí. 

Muchas marcas de diecast se jactan de sus artículos producidos en bajas cantidades, seduciendo a coleccionistas y posibles compradores con el argumento de la exclusividad al adquirir estos coleccionables; pero algunos meses o años más tarde, puedes ver el mismo molde / herramienta de este artículo de "edición limitada", usado con un trabajo de pintura y/o decoración diferente, un nuevo empaque y allí lo tienes: OTRA "exclusividad" (estoy pensando en los autos de juguete glorificados del RLC -Red Line Collectors Club-, por ejemplo). 

No obstante, Auto World va más allá: esta es la Edición Exclusiva AutoWorldStore.com de la cual solo fueron hechas 1.500 piezas y solo serán 1.500 simplemente porque el molde y herramienta originales fueron destruidos y hay un video sobre ello, incluido en esta reseña... 

¡Eso es lo que llamo EDICIÓN LIMITADA!... 

Si bien un artículo de edición limitada es por sí mismo atractivo para cualquier coleccionista, este modelo no es solo sobre cantidades limitadas: en realidad ofrece la más alta calidad en detalle y acabado, a la par o incluso superior a lo que esperas de, digamos, Minichamps, Kyosho, Oversteer, Spark, Tomica Limited Vintage / Neo y otras, sin mencionar el empaque bien diseñado, incluyendo una caja abierta con recubrimiento cromado, rematada por una caja exterior en acetato; quiero decir, sientes que es una joya y yo diría, ¡desde luego!... 

Tú obtienes todos los extras con este modelo Premium, basado en un carro personalizado real, hecho para Lowe, como la construcción completa en diecast y todo fue moldeado profusamente, el trabajo es sorprendente incluso para los estándares actuales en diseño 3D. 

El trabajo de pintura presenta un naranja HEMI con acabado de escarcha metálica extrafina, complementado por varios tampos y/o calcomanías extremadamente precisas para las luces de conducción/niebla, los paneles inferiores, la decoración en negro mate sobre los cuartos traseros, el panel alrededor de las luces de cola, la placa trasera, también el capó recibió pintura negra con acabado satinado, un diminuto emblema Dodge, mientras que el chasis fue pintado en negro mate, con toques de pintura plateada clara y oscura. 

Hay insertos plásticos para las luces delanteras, la parrilla frontal, la tapa de la gasolina de apertura hacia atrás (fotograbada), el deflector trasero, las luces de cola y los silenciadores (debajo del chasis). 

Tiene apertura de capó con motor detallado y pintado, hermosamente hecho; los interiores fueron hechos en plástico negro, bastante detallados; las ruedas son multiparte, con rimes de radios realistas en negro mate combinado con cromado, llantas labradas en caucho de bajo perfil, fue hecho en China e incluye un contenedor redondo transparente con virutas del molde / herramienta reales...

I always thought that the Muscle Car era was a bit too short regarding what it meant for the American car culture and I have mentioned it several times in previous publications... 

With difficulty, this kind of vehicles managed to survive for about 10 years and yet, their impact in the modern popular culture has hardly diminished, despite the passage of decades... 

You could say that it was barely a local cultural phenomenon of the United States and up to a point it’s true; the very term was coined there and the Muscle Cars have so many particularities, that you couldn’t find anything of their typology in other countries or markets... 

Well, with the illustrious exceptions of Australia, which developed its own specimens, mainly because the three big players of the american car industry had subsidiaries in Continental Oceania and the incredibly elusive and singular Jensen Interceptor, a british car. 

But as hard to believe as it could be, there are many car enthusiasts from all around the world who would do and pay anything to own a Muscle Car. 

Yeah !!! Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Russia or Japan, are countries were you can find Muscle Cars lovers and the list continues (including my homeland, for instance)... 

It’s worth mentioning that there was a timid revival of the Muscle Car segment during the 80s, when a bunch of bold and boxy cars paid homage to the golden era stallions and they were heroes, since the aftermath of the 70’s oil crisis were still in full rage, but their performance was not as outrageous as that of the originals... 

However, what we could call a more consistent revival of Muscle Cars began in 2005, when the fifth generation Ford Mustang somehow put this type of vehicles in the spotlight again, with such success that Dodge and later Chevrolet created new renditions of the old glories. 

The 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 Custom Wide Body 2-Door Hardtop Coupe is a delicious counter-sense that brought back the unchaste charm of the classic Muscle Cars; it certainly took advantage of the boom generated by the Mustang and, in my humble opinion, it was even further. 

Just like in the case of the Pony Car created by Ford, Dodge was seduced by the retro-futurism, an evident trend in the current automotive business, regardless the brand in question and I think it’s a great approach that has paid off... 

My impressions on the car design and its specifications will be shared in a future publication so, let’s take a look at the scale replica we are dealing with on this time... 

It’s a new year and I start introducing a new diecast brand in my blog and in my collection: Auto World; I was not very aware of its existence until its resurgence by the hand of Thomas Lowe, the man who took the reins of Johnny Lightning recently... 

I’m convinced that this guy has the golden touch, because his work with the diecast brands in his portafolio has been very consistent, now more new and old collectors know about these products, which is great!... 

But Auto World is not a new comer in the diecast market NO, actually the company was founded in 1958, by Oscar Kovelesky, in Scranton, Pennsylvania and it began as a hobby store with a wide assortment of items, like: plastic model kits, large and small slot racing cars, gas-powered cars, scratch-building supplies, paint and spray guns, also its specialty was mail-orders. 

As it happened in the case of Johnny Lightning, Tom Lowe was behind the revival of Auto World, through his company appropriately called Round 2 and the model published today is a sample of the second stage of this nostalgic brand, which now works also with diecast replicas. 

It belongs to the True L.E. (Limited Edition) Series and it embodies a completely new approach, different to what we have known about limited editions so far. 

Many diecast brands boast about their items produced in low quantities, luring collectors and potential buyers with the argument of exclusivity by acquiring these collectibles; but some months or years later, you can see the same mold / tool of this "limited edition" item, used with a different paint job and/or decoration, a new packaging and there you have it: ANOTHER "exclusivity" (I’m thinking about the glorified toy cars of the RLC -Red Line Collectors Club-, for instance). 

Nonetheless, Auto World goes beyond: this is the Exclusive AutoWorldStore.com Edition of which only 1,500 pieces were made and they will be only 1,500 just because the original mold and tool were destroyed and there is a video about that, included in this review... 

That’s what I call LIMITED EDITION!... 

While a limited edition item is by itself attractive for any collector, this model is not only about limited quantities: it actually delivers the highest quality in detail and finishing, at par or even superior to what you expect from, let’s say, Minichamps, Kyosho, Oversteer, Spark, Tomica Limited Vintage-Neo and others, not to mention the very well designed packaging, including an open box with chrome covering and full color printing, topped by an exterior acetate box; I mean, you feel like it’s a jewel and I would say, of course!... 

You get all the extras in this Premium model, based on an actual customized car, made for Lowe, like the full diecast construction and everything was molded profusely, the work is amazing even for the current standards in 3D design. 

The paint job features a HEMI orange with extrafine metal flake finishing, complemented by several tampos and/or decals extremely accurate for the fog/driving lights, the rocker panels, the matte black decoration on the hindquarters, the panel around the tail lights, the rear plate, also the hood received black paint with satin finishing, a tiny Dodge emblem, while the chassis was painted in matte black, with touches of light and dark silver. 

There are plastic inserts for the head lights, the front grille, the throwback gas cap (photo etched), the rear spoiler, the tail lights and the mufflers (below in the chassis). 

It has opening hood with detailed and painted engine, beautifully made; the interiors were worked in black plastic, fairly detailed; the wheels are multipart, with realistic wired rims in matte black combined with chrome, low profile styled rubber tires, it was made in China and includes a clear rounded container with shavings of the actual tool / mold...
