La gente de mi generación debe confesar que las series de TV producidas en Estados Unidos durante los 80s, fueron una enorme influencia y moldearon la cultura popular mucho más allá de los límites del país de la bandera salpicada de estrellas, porque tuvieron una audiencia leal, incluyendo el dueño de este blog... 

Sin embargo, ya que soy de Latinoamérica, de Colombia para ser preciso (en la esquina noreste de Suramérica y necesito aclarar esto todo el tiempo, porque la mayoría de personas tienden a confundirla con Columbia, Carolina de Sur, EE.UU.A.), tuve mi entrada al mundo de estas series de TV más tarde, ya que los productores necesitaban gestionar el tema del doblaje al español, hecho en México y este proceso toma algún tiempo... 

Disfruté mucho muchas de estas producciones, como: Casados... Con Hijos (Married... With Children), Dimensión Desconocida (The Twilight Zone), Profesión Peligro (Fall Guy), Sledge Hammer, Thundercats, El Auto Fantástico (Knight Rider), Wiseguy, Lobo del Aire (Airwolf), Hunter, V: La Batalla Final (V: The Final Battle), MacGyver, Comando Especial (21 Jump Street), Los Dukes de Hazzard (The Dukes of Hazzard), CHiPs, Mork & Mindy o incluso Miami Vice. 

Otras no tanto, pero estuvieron en mi radar de todas maneras, como: Battlestar Galactica, Magnum P.I., El Super Héroe Americano (The Greatest American Hero), Simon & Simon, Cagney & Lacey, Remington Steele, Hardcastle and McCormick, Camino al Cielo (Highway to Heaven), Automan, Seinfeld... 

Quiero decir, hubo un montón de series de TV que ayudaron a crear una de las décadas más fuertes en asuntos de cultura popular y no estoy siquiera mencionando todas mis favoritas, porque mi invitada para esta publicación: la GMC Vandura Serie G10 (G-1500) Van de Carga 125’ DE Custom de 1978 - 1983, una Van Utilitaria / Panel de Tamaño Completo Clase "a para Trabajo Liviano 1/2 Tonelada Distancia Entre Ejes Larga 5 Puertas, fue co-extrella en una de estas producciones. 

Los Magníficos (The A-Team), una Serie de TV transmitida originalmente entre 1983 y 1987, fue uno de los programas más reconocidos de esa era, que se emitió en NBC, creado por Stephen J. Cannell y Frank Luppo, una dupla de productor y escritor / productor respectivamente, con varios productos de TV en su haber. 

Me encantó y todavía me encanta esta serie de acción-aventura, presentando un "Equipo Alfa", a saber una unidad pequeña de fuerzas especiales, compuesta pricipalmente por boinas verdes que trabajan como soldados de la fortuna o mercenarios, huyendo de la justicia militar, pero ayudando a personas en necesidad, mientras tratan de limpiar sus nombres por causa de un crimen que no cometieron. 

De hecho, las películas y series de TV de acción, así como aquellas en el género de la ciencia ficción y el horror, han sido mis favoritas de todos los tiempos y los Magníficos (The A-Team) tenía una buena dosis de acción, explosiones, disparos (que para los críticos resultaron "caricaturescos") y encuentro esas cosas muy entretenidas, pero tenía también inventiva, humor y personajes distintivos: en este equilibrio, supongo, radica en gran parte su éxito... 

La existencia de líneas de coleccionables basados en series de TV o películas no es nada nuevo, hay muchas marcas especializadas en esta clase de artículos y varias otras que los incluyen en sus catálogos, y no es de extrañar: la industria del entretenimiento y los fabricantes de coleccionables tiene ganancias importantes con estos productos de mercadeo cruzado... 

En el caso de réplicas a escala y autos de juguete, puedes encontrar ejemplos hechos por: Corgi, Matchbox, Dinky, Jada, Vitesse, Kenner, Hasbro, Greenlight, Johnny Lightning, Minichamps, Autoworld, Kyosho, ERTL, Tomica Limited Vintage / Neo, Revell, Racing Champions, Eagle Moss, Autoart, Tomica y la lista sigue... 

Algunas de estas réplicas son fabulosas, bastante precisas, con muchos detalles y algunas veces adicionalmente con truquitos (partes móviles), otras son muy decentes, buena relación calidad-precio y hay algunas pobremente desarrolladas, con varias imprecisiones y acabados deficientes: tú como coleccionista tienes muchas opciones para escoger... 

¿Y por qué menciono estos hechos?, bueno, simplemente porque por alguna razón (ignorancia, estoy bastante seguro), compradores (y nota que no menciono coleccionistas) de Hot Wheels, creen que esta marca y solo esta marca fabrica productos con este perfil o que son "lo mejor" en este mercado: ambas son mentiras flagrantes, por cierto... 

Esta ignorancia ha hecho las cosas más fáciles para los acaparadores / especuladores, quienes están haciendo buen dinero con compradores incompetentes y los productos hechos por Hot Wheels para la Serie Retro Entertainment lanzada originalmente en 2013, cuyo nombre fue cambiado a Hot Wheels Entertainment y actualmente es llamada Replica Entertainment. 

Ese es un nombre pretencioso si me lo preguntas, porque como coleccionista experimentado, sé muy bien que estos son solo coches de juguete, no réplicas a escala y encima de eso, estos productos fueron etiquetados como "premium" retroactivamente, cuando apenas cumplen los criterios para la categoría Adulta, pero ya que Hot Wheels es conocida entre nosotros los coleccionistas por su publicidad engañosa, bueno, no es sorpresa. 

Este vehículo de juguete pertenece a la Serie ya mencionada y debido a su naturaleza, este producto es lo que considero una interpretación muy decente de la Van de los Magníficos (A-Team), no una réplica, desde luego y una réplica real fue hecha después por Greenlight; hubiera preferido conseguir esta última, pero tuve que conformarme con esta, que no es excelente pero es bonita. 

La conseguí obviamente a través del mercado secundario, con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador / vendedor privado, hace más o menos 8 años; a diferencia de otros modelos de esta Serie, no ha sido relanzado hasta ahora (tal vez la versión Greenlight es parte de la razón porque esto no ha sucedido). 

Manson Cheung fue el diseñador detrás de esta van de juguete, originalmente lanzada en 2011 como parte de la Línea Principal, categoría Regular, ha tenido al menos 8 iteraciones, incluyendo variaciones, para líneas en las categorías Regular y Adulta, también una para la categoría De Lujo, una Comic Con Exclusive la cual es básicamente el mismo modelo hecho para la Serie Retro Entertainment Series, con salpicaduras de barro y una caja más bonita, nada realmente especial acerca de ella y con todo es más de 10 veces más cara que su contraparte Retro: ridículo, ¿correcto?... 

Tiene carrocería y chasis en diecast, el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en negro, con acabado brillante, complementado por plateado oscuro con acabado Metalflake en la parte superior, el chasis recibió pintura negra también. 

La decoración fue hecha con tampos y/o calcomanía sobre prácticamente todos los paneles de la carrocería, para variar; el molde de los interiores en negro incluyó la barra protectora frontal, mientras las ventanas son ahumadas e incluyen el quemacocos, ofrece ruedas multiparte Real Rider con diseño de rimes Turbine, en rojo cromado, llantas labradas en caucho sintético, con tampos blancos BFGoodrich Radial T/A y fue hecha en Malasia...

The people of my generation must confess that TV series produced in United States during the 80s, were a huge influence and molded popular culture way beyond the limits of the country of the star-spattered flag, because they had a very loyal audience, including the owner of this blog... 

However, since I’m from Latin America, from Colombia to be precise (in the north-west corner of South America and I need to clarify this all the time, because most people tend to mistake it with Columbia, South Carolina, USA), I had my entry to the world of these TV series later, since the producers needed to manage the topic of Spanish dubbing, made in Mexico and this process takes some time... 

I enjoyed quite a bit many of these productions, like: Married... With Children, The Twilight Zone, Fall Guy, Sledge Hammer, Thundercats, Knight Rider, Wiseguy, Airwolf, Hunter, V: The Final Battle, MacGyver, 21 Jump Street, The Dukes of Hazzard, CHiPs, Mork & Mindy or even Miami Vice. 

Others not that much, but they were in my radar anyway, like: Battlestar Galactica, Magnum P.I., The Greatest American Hero, Simon & Simon, Cagney & Lacey, Remington Steele, Hardcastle and McCormick, Highway to Heaven, Automan, Seinfeld... 

I mean, there were a whole lot of TV series that helped to created one of the strongest decade in pop culture matters and I’m not even mentioning all my favorite ones, because my guest for this publication: the 1978 - 1983 GMC Vandura G10 Series (G-1500) Cargo Van 125’ WB Custom, a Full Size Full Size Class 2A Light Duty 1/2 Ton Long Wheelbase 5-Door Panel / Utility Van (Custom GMC Panel Van), was co-star in one of these productions. 

The A-Team, a TV Series originally aired between 1983 and 1987, was one of the most recognized shows of that era, which ran on NBC, created by Stephen J. Cannell and Frank Luppo, a duo of producer and writer / producer respectively, with several TV products under their belt. 

I loved and still love this action-adventure series, featuring an "Alpha Team", namely a small special forces unit, composed mainly by green berets who work as soldiers of fortune or mercenaries, fleeing from military justice, but helping people in need, while they try to clean their names because of a crime they didn’t commit. 

In fact, action movies and TV series, as well as those in the genre of science fiction and horror, have been my all time favorite and The A-Team had a good dose of action, explosions, gunfire (which for critics resulted "cartonish") and I find those things very entertaining, but it has also inventiveness, humor and distinctive character: in this balance, I guess, lies largely its success... 

The existence of lines of collectibles based on TV series or movies is not anything new, there are many brands specialized in this kind of items and several others that include them in their catalogs, and it’s no wonder: the industry of entertainment and manufacturers of collectibles have important revenues with these cross-marketing products... 

In the case of scale replicas and toy cars, you can find examples made by: Corgi, Matchbox, Dinky, Jada, Vitesse, Kenner, Hasbro, Greenlight, Johnny Lightning, Minichamps, Autoworld, Kyosho, ERTL, Tomica Limited Vintage / Neo, Revell, Racing Champions, Eagle Moss, Autoart, Tomica and the list goes on... 

Some of these replicas are fabulous, quite accurate, with lost of details and sometimes additionally with gimmicks (moving parts), others are very decent, good value for money and there are some poorly developed, with several inaccuracies and subpar finishes: you as collector have many options to choose... 

And why I mention these facts?, well, just because for some reason (ignorance, I’m pretty sure), buyers (and do notice that I don’t mention collectors) of Hot Wheels, believe that this brand and only this brand manufactures products with this profile or that they are "the best" in this market: both are flagrant lies, by the way... 

This ignorance has made things easier for hoarders / scalpers, who are making big money with incompetent buyers and the products made by Hot Wheels for the Retro Entertainment Series released originally in 2013, whose name was changed to Hot Wheels Entertainment and currently is called Replica Entertainment. 

That’s a pretentious name if you ask me, because as experienced collector, I know very well these are just toy cars, not scale replicas and on top of that, these items were tagged "premium" retroactively, when they barely meet the criteria for the Adult category, but since Hot Wheels is known among us the collectors by its misleading advertising, well, it’s no surprise. 

This toy vehicle belongs to the Series already mentioned and due to its nature, this product is what I consider a very decent rendition of the A-Team Van, not a replica, of course and an actual replica was made later by Greenlight; I would have preferred to get the latter, but I had to settle with this one, that is not excellent but is nice. 

I got it obviously through the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer / private seller, pretty much 8 years ago; unlike other models from this Series, it has not be re-issue until now (maybe the Greenlight version is part of the reason why it has not happened). 

Manson Cheung was the designer behind this toy van, originally released in 2011 as part of the Mainline, Regular category, it has had at least 8 iterations, including variations, for lines in the Regular and Adult categories, also one for the Deluxe category, a Comic Con Exclusive which is basically the same made for the Retro Entertainment Series, with mud splatters and a nicer box, nothing really special about it and yet it’s more than 10 times more expensive than its Retro counterpart: ridiculous, right?... 

It has diecast body and chassis, the paint job was made in black, with glossy finishing, complemented by dark silver with Metalflake finishing on top, the chassis received black paint too. 

The decoration was made with tampos and/or decals on virtually all the panels of the body, for a change; the mold of the interiors in black included the front push bar, while the windows are smoked and include the sunroof, it offers multipart Real Rider wheels with Turbine rims design, in red chrome, styled synthetic rubber tires, with white BFGoodrich Radial T/A tampos and it was made in Malaysia...
