Si eres curioso sobre el mundo de los camiones para trabajo pesado, como yo, al menos una vez te habrás preguntado: ¿hay un equivalente del Rolls Royce en este segmento?...
Rolls Royce es el canon de los autos de lujo, probablemente hay otros vehículos más costosos, exóticos o exclusivos; pero la mayoría de esos modelos singulares no tienen la historia, continuidad o recordación de este fabricante de autos originalmente británico...
Ahora, volviendo a la respuesta al interrogante inicial planteado, algunas compañías europeas con una gran reputación en el transporte pesado, desfilaron por mi mente...
Mercedes Benz, Scania, Volvo, MAN, DAF y como representación de Estados Unidos: Kenworth...
Hubo otras marcas descartadas, simplemente porque no tienen modelos de lujo superior disponibles en sus portafolios...
En esa época, no tenía idea alguna que el equivalente del Rolls Royce en el mundo de los camiones para trabajo pesado es en realidad: ¡Peterbilt!...
Peterbilt Motors Company, fundada en 1939 por Theodore Alfred Peterman, establecida en Denton, Texas y actualmente una división del conglomerado PACCAR, no es el negocio más antiguo en este segmento, pero ellos construyeron una reputación legendaria, fabricando productos con los más altos estándares de calidad y un compromiso pleno con la innovación.
Esta compañía comenzó, justo como otros constructores de camiones norteamericanos, a causa de la necesidad de resolver un problema de logística, en este caso, en el negocio de la explotación forestal.
Sin embargo, ellos no empezaron desde cero, en realidad T.A. Peterman tomó como base camiones del ejército existentes, pero los reconstruyó, mejorando las características y tecnología con cada vehículo sucesivo, obviamente las necesidades de la explotación forestal estuvieron en mente.
Aparentemente, a pesar de los excelentes atributos de los camiones Peterbilt, estos no fueron exitosos (léase: ventas pobres, NO calidad pobre) y la compañía estuvo obligada a ofrecerlos al público.
El catálogo de Peterbilt es realmente amplio y cubre el mercado de los camiones de Clase 5 hasta Clase 8, ofreciendo prestaciones de primera categoría como: máxima comodidad y habitabilidad, eficiencia en aerodinámica y consumo de combustible, la última tecnología para conectividad, seguridad, monitoreo, etcétera...
No podrías esperar menos del Rolls Royce de los camiones para trabajo pesado, ¿cierto?...
El invitado para hoy es el Carrotanque de Doble Eje Trasero de Tracción Peterbilt 381 de 1957, estaba relacionado con la Serie 351, fue reemplazado por la Serie 353 en 1973 y su mercado fue básicamente la construcción (realmente traté de encontrar una fotografía decente de este modelo, pero solo conseguí una de un Peterbilt 381 de 1955, que es bastante parecido).
Muestra orgullosamente sus raíces militares con una apariencia extremadamente utilitaria y vigorosa, presentando la clásica nariz estrecha con capó de apertura en mariposa, luces delanteras cubiertas, guardafangos planos y un despeje del piso bastante notorio (casi como el los modelos de la Serie 383 de tracción en todas la ruedas -6x6-)...
No hay posibilidad de error, ¡están viendo un verdadero guerrero del camino!...
Debo decir que nunca esperé conseguir un modelo como este, especialmente luego que estuve investigando sobre los moldes de camiones de Hot Wheels.
Este modelo fue creado por Larry Wood y lanzado en 1981 para la Serie Hot Wheels Workhorses.
Solo fue fabricado 6 años (1981, 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991 y 1994), una producción muy corta para un artículo de las líneas Regulares e incluyendo variaciones, 8 Peterbilt Tank Trucks estuvieron disponibles (el último, tenía tanque plástico y era parte de un 5-Pack).
He escuchado que el modelo de producción más pesado creado por Hot Wheels hasta ahora, es el Volkswagen Drag Bus, pero obviamente quien dijo eso no consideró este molde (que comparativamente es mucho más escaso).
Presenta una construcción completa en diecast (carrocería, chasis y tanque), el molde fue extremadamente bien trabajado para el tamaño, con un montón de detalles.
El frente es simplemente hermoso, la cabina tiene todos los filtros, luces de señalización, cornetas, escaleras laterales, espejos retrovisores y exhostos, el tanque está bastante detallado también (ellos incluyeron hasta algunos medidores).
El trabajo de pintura es excelente, con una combinación de rojo brillante y plateado en acabado Metalflake, complementado por un tampo colorido presentando un logotipo Railroad y un logo de Hot Wheels en los paneles laterales del tanque, las ventanas son ahumadas.
La selección de ruedas fue el diseño Basic Black Wall con rimes cromados, para un aire absolutamente vintage y el molde fue hecho en Malasia...
¡Estoy tan feliz con este encantador modelo y no es algo que encuentre en cualquier lugar, ni hablar a un precio decente!...

This company began, just like other American truck builders, because of the need to solve a logistic problem, in this case, in the logging business.
However, they didn’t start from scratch, actually T.A. Peterman took as a basis existing army trucks, but rebuilt them, improving the features and technology with each successive vehicle, obviously the logging needs were in mind.
Apparently, despite the excellent attributes of the Peterbilt trucks, these were unsuccessful (read: poor sales, NOT poor quality) and the company was forced to offer them to the public.
The Peterbilt catalog is really wide and covers the market of the Class 5 to the Class 8 trucks, offering top notch features like: maximum comfort and habitability, efficiency in aerodynamics and fuel consumption, the latest technology for connectivity, safety, monitoring and so on...
You could not expect less from the Rolls Royce of the heavy duty trucks, right?...
The guest for today is the 1957 Peterbilt 381 Dual Drive Rear Axle Tank Truck, it was related with the 351 Series, replaced in 1973 by the 353 Series and its market was mainly the construction (I try really hard to find a decent picture of this model, but only got one of a 1955 Peterbilt 381, which is pretty similar).
It shows proudly its military roots with an extremely utilitarian and vigorous semblance, featuring the classic narrow-nose with butterfly hood, covered headlights, flat fenders and a quite notorious ground clearance (almost like the models of the 383 Series, with all wheel traction -6x6-)...
There is no chance for error, you are looking at a true road warrior!...
I must say that I never expected to get a model like this, specially after I was researching about the truck casts by Hot Wheels.
This model was created by Larry Wood and released in 1981 for the Hot Wheels Workhorses Series.
Only was manufactured 6 years (1981, 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991 and 1994), a very short run for an item from the Regular lines and including variations, 8 Peterbilt Tank Trucks were available (the last one, had plastic tank and it was part of a 5-Pack).
I have heard that the heaviest production model created by Hot Wheels so far, is the Volkswagen Drag Bus, but obviously the one who said that, didn’t consider this mold (which is comparatively much more scarce).
It features a full diecast construction (body, chassis and tank), the cast was extremely well worked for the size, with a lot of details.
The front is just beautiful, the cabin has all the filters, signal lights, cornets, side ladders, rearview mirrors and exhausts, the tank is fairly detailed too (they included even some gauges).
The paint job is excellent, with a combination of bright red and grey in Metalflake finishing, complemented by a colorful tampo featuring a Railroad wording and a Hot Wheels logo on the side panels of the tank, the windows are smoked.
The wheels selection was the Basic Black Wall design with chrome rims for an absolutely vintage feeling and the mold was made in Malaysia...
I’m so happy with this lovely model and it’s not something you find anywhere, let alone at a decent price!...

Just need to confirm again if the tank mounted is metal diecast cos the chrome looks like metal. If yes? It's really quite a solid piece. You have a quite a varieties vehicle classes from car, jeep to truck. Nice in depth post again...
quite valid query, pal... yep, everything (except the wheels, of course) is diecast in this casting !!!... being a very old one (from 1986, probably the oldest Hot Wheels in my collection), it has the solid construction usual at that time, when the diecast manufacturers were generous with this alloy... that’s why the vintage models are longlasting !!!... nowadays the plastic is the king and hence, the models are kinda disposable =/... and you know, that variety is the main subject in my blog, this particular model was an incredible finding, is very hard to find currently and only one was imported at the time i got it... this heavy beauty was meant to be mine !!! =)

quite valid query, pal... yep, everything (except the wheels, of course) is diecast in this casting !!!... being a very old one (from 1986, probably the oldest Hot Wheels in my collection), it has the solid construction usual at that time, when the diecast manufacturers were generous with this alloy... that’s why the vintage models are longlasting !!!... nowadays the plastic is the king and hence, the models are kinda disposable =/... and you know, that variety is the main subject in my blog, this particular model was an incredible finding, is very hard to find currently and only one was imported at the time i got it... this heavy beauty was meant to be mine !!! =)
