1965 Shelby AC Cobra 427 MkIII 2-Seater Roadster (Standard / Street Model) Compact Sports Car 2005 Coca-Cola Brand / Marque Real Wheels Series 11/12 Diecast Scale 1:62 by Johnny Lightning

En la tierra de los autos deportivos, ese territorio salvaje donde criaturas mecánicas vagan libremente, habituadas a la velocidad, como depredadores (porque eso es parte de su ADN, el ADN que recibieron de sus míticos creadores), hay diferentes razas... 

Puedes encontrar aquellas con aires de sofisticación, fueron dotadas con desempeño, refinamiento y cierta nobleza; si resulta que posees o montas una de ellas, sientes que fueron domesticadas para mantener las cosas bajo control, de alguna forma perdiendo algo en el proceso, su impetuosidad... 

Ciertamente un deleite para tus ojos, estas criaturas mecánicas fueron hechas con amos civilizados en mente, personas de "buenos modales", que no quieren algo "arisco" en sus garajes... 

Y luego, están aquellas cuyo carácter indómito fue dejado casi intacto por sus creadores, bestias hechas para amos que están dispuestos a dejarlas correr desenfrenadamente, porque sienten que es lo que tienen que hacer... 

Estos amos están más conscientes sobre el verdadero llamado de las criaturas mecánicas dejadas bajo su responsabilidad y no quieren una "mascota castrada" habitando sus garajes... 

A esta última categoría, pertenece la bestia presentada en esta publicación: el Auto Deportivo Compacto Shelby AC Cobra 427 MkIII Roadster 2 Plazas de 1965, el cual es, a propósito, el Modelo Estándar / De Calle. 

A diferencia de algunos Cobras 427 introducidos en un reseña anterior, este ejemplo es una versión no afinada del 427, hecho originalmente como un coche de carreras sobresaliente; pero incluso sin las modificaciones usuales para competición, el carro fue considerado legítimamente el vehículo de producción más rápido de aquel entonces. 

Y dicha declaración no era simplemente un ardid publicitario, era verdad y hoy en día es todavía uno de los coches más rápidos hechos jamás, justamente porque fue concebido por alguien con una pasión absoluta por estos fierros. 

La historia detrás de la creación del AC Cobra 427 explica la mística alrededor de él, Carroll Shelby estaba decidido a diseñar y desarrollar un carro que pudiera llamar suyo, uno del cual pudiera estar orgulloso y definitivamente lo hizo; su auto, como él mismo, son una LEYENDA. 

Continuando con su historia, en el punto donde la dejé (puedes encontrar la primera parte aquí)... 

Carroll se dio cuenta de la falta de suministro de motores en AC Cars Ltd., la compañía detrás del AC Ace, ese coche enérgico en el cual Shelby vió algo prometedor. 

El riesgo era que el modelo AC Ace, junto con la compañía que lo producía, podrían desaparecer pronto, ya que como cualquier otro fabricante pequeño, estaba luchando por permanecer en el mercado. 

Carroll propuso continuar con la producción de la carrocería y el chasis del AC, además ofreció la opción de un motor V8 de bloque pequeño provisto por Ford, porque planeaba crear un carro deportivo compacto, con su marca estampada en él. 

Parte de la primera generación de Cobras (MkI), fue equipada con un motor de 260 pulgadas cúbicas, 4.3 L, Ford V8, mientras el resto recibió motores de 289 pulgadas cúbicas, 4.7 L, V8; estos modelos probaron ser los más difíciles de conducir y peligrosos, aún para pilotos entrenados, en el caso de aquellos hechos para carreras. 

El auto fue desarrollado aún más, con una modificación importante de la parte frontal, permitiendo ajustar una dirección de piñón y cremallera la cual a su vez, fue designada la segunda generación (MkII)... 

Más acerca de la historia y especificaciones del Shelby AC Cobra 427 MkIII en una publicación futura; ¡me temo que un diseñador, una marca y un coche de este calibre, merecen un cubrimiento más profundo y lo tendrán, sin lugar a duda!... 

He estado trabajando en agregar más modelos hechos por Johnny Lightning a mi colección, desde que me enamoré de esta marca hace años y debo confesar que no ha sido una tarea fácil, como he dicho antes, pero al menos, ha sido exitosa hasta aquí. 

La disponibilidad de JL es más bien baja alrededor del mundo (algo que he confirmado con colegas coleccionistas) y bueno, las cifras de producción de esta marca son limitadas en todo caso, con cantidades entre 5.000 y 20.000 unidades (más o menos) por modelo a nivel mundial en todas sus líneas, excepto en las líneas especiales White Lightning y Lightning Strike, las cuales son mucho, mucho más escasas. 

Curiosamente estas son, más o menos, las cifras de líneas como la Super / Hidden Treasure Hunts de Hot Wheels (supuestamente 15.000 unidades a nivel mundial), una serie que ha sido objeto de un culto irracional por parte de gente que en realidad está más preocupada por ser "los tipos más populares" (como hacen muchos auto-proclamados "coleccionistas experimentados"), que en reflexionar acerca del círculo vicioso alrededor de dicha línea, un círculo vicioso que ellos están financiando, como borregos sonsos (así que, dónde está su pretendida experticia, ¿EH?)... 

Me gustan los Super / Hidden Treasure Hunts y tengo unos pocos en mi colección (algunos no publicados aún), pero no soy particularmente obsesivo en conseguirlos, a cualquier costo, como si fueran el botín definitivo o cosas como esa; en realidad, son parte de la línea principal, ni más ni menos... 

Prefiero enfilar mis esfuerzos a conseguir productos más gratificantes, como aquellos ofrecidos por Johnny Lightning y aunque ni un solo modelo 2016 es parte de mi colección hasta ahora, algunos de los modelos más antiguos serán introducidos pronto. 

El Shelby AC Cobra 427 reseñado aquí, fue un modelo que conseguí a través de un colega coleccionista e importador de coleccionables, que era fanático de los promocionales de Coca-Cola y aparentemente decidió dejar ir unos pocos diecast en los cuales no estaba muy interesado (afortunadamente para mí =PPPPP); esto fue hace más de 4 años. 

Pertenece a la Serie Coca-Cola Brand / Marque Real Wheels, consistente en 12 modelos y es parte de la era RC2 Brands Inc.; como cualquier otro coleccionable licenciado oficialmente por Coca-Cola, los modelos de esta serie son bastante codiciados, las réplicas en diecast hechas por JL son excepcionalmente hermosas y mejores que otras ofertas en pequeña escala por marcas como: Matchbox, Corgi, Tomica, Majorette o Siku. 

El diecast venía dentro de una tarjeta grande y gruesa, impresa a todo color, presentando un diseño sobrio y con todo atractivo; aunque considero una decisión equivocada mantener los coleccionables en sus empaques indefinidamente (a menos que seas un coleccionista de empaques o que estés planeando venderlo de nuevo), siempre aprecio un buen diseño. 

Tiene carrocería y chasis en diecast, todo finamente detallado y moldeado, como es usual en productos por Johnny Lightning, desde la era Playing Mantis en adelante. 

El trabajo de pintura fue hecho en rojo brillante, complementado por un tono marrón en degradé, desde la parte trasera hasta el centro de la carrocería, con tampos soberbios por todos lados en plateado, negro, blanco, rojo y amarillo; la confluencia de elementos crea un coleccionable precioso, que estoy feliz de poseer. 

Los interiores en blanco estan también finamente detallados, hay un inserto plástico transparente para el parabrisas, con las respectivas viseras para viento laterales (un detalle que es descuidado con frecuencia por otros fabricantes de este modelo en escala pequeña) y recibió tampos plateados y blancos para adicionar a su encanto. 

Las ruedas son multiparte, combinando rimes de radios realistas con acabado cromado, tampos cobrizos para los tapacubos y llantas en caucho labradas; no hay apertura del capó, pero el modelo incluye una fantástica caja deslizable de latón para coleccionista, donde el diseño de Coca-Cola del modelo en diecast es replicado y llevado al siguiente nivel en la funda, mientras la gaveta deslizante presenta un par de logos de Johnny Lightning en el exterior y una vista superior del Shelby AC Cobra impresa dentro; finalmente, fue hecho en China...

In the land of sports cars, that wild territory where mechanical creatures roam freely, habituated to speed, like predators (because that’s part of their DNA, the DNA they received from their mythical creators), there are different breeds... 

You can find those with airs of sophistication, they were endowed with performance, refinement and certain nobility; if you happen to own and ride them, you feel they were tamed to keep things under control, somehow losing something in the process, their impetuosity... 

Certainly a delight for your eyes, these mechanical creatures were made with civilized masters in mind, people of "good manners", who don’t want something "surly" in their garages... 

And then, there are those whose indomitable character was left almost intact by their creators, beasts made for masters who are willing to let them run wantonly, because they feel that’s what they have to do... 

These masters are more aware about the true calling of the mechanical creatures left under their responsibility and they don’t want a "neutered pet" inhabiting their garages... 

To the latter category, belongs the beast featured in this publication: the 1965 Shelby AC Cobra 427 MkIII 2-Seater Roadster - Compact Sports Car, which is, by the way, the Standard / Street Model. 

Unlike some Cobras 427 introduced in a previous review, this sample is a detuned version of the 427, made originally as an outstanding racing car; but even without the usual modifications for competition, the car was considered rightfully the fastest production vehicle at the time. 

And such statement was not only a publicity stunt, it was true and nowadays is still one of the fastest cars ever made, just because it was conceived by someone with an absolute passion for these irons. 

The history behind the creation of the AC Cobra 427 explains the mystic around it, Carroll Shelby was decided to design and develop a car that he could call his own, one of which he could be proud and definitely he did it; his car, as himself, are a LEGEND. 

Continuing with its history, in the point where I left off (you can find the first part here)... 

Carroll realized the lack of engines supply in AC Cars Ltd., the company behind the AC Ace, that spirited car in which Shelby saw something promising. 

The risk was that the AC Ace model, along with the company that produced it, could disappear soon, since like any other small manufacturer, it was struggling to stay in the market. 

Carroll proposed to continue the production of the AC body and chassis, also offered the option of a small-block V8 provided by Ford, because he planned to create a special compact sports car, with his brand stamped on it. 

Part of the first generation of Cobras (MkI), was fitted with a 260 cu in, 4.3 L, Ford V8 engines, while the rest received a 289 cu in, 4.7 L, V8 engines; these models proved to be the most difficult to drive and dangerous, even for trained pilots, in the case of those made for racing. 

The car was further developed, with a major modification of the front end, allowing to fit a rack and pinion steering which in turn, was designated the second generation (MkII)... 

More about the history and specifications of the Shelby AC Cobra 427 MkIII in a future publication; I’m afraid that a designer, a brand and a car of this caliber, deserve a deeper coverage and they will have it, for sure!... 

I have been working on adding more models made by Johnny Lightning to my collection, since I fell in love with this brand years ago and I must confess that it has not been an easy task, as I have said before, but at least, it has been successful so far. 

The availability of JL is rather low around the world (something I have confirmed with fellow collectors) and well, the figures of production for this brand are limited anyway, with amounts between 5,000 and 20,000 units (more or less) per model wordlwide in all its lines, except the White Lightning and Lightning Strike special lines, which are much, much scarcer. 

Curiously, these are, pretty much, the figures of lines like the Super / Hidden Treasure Hunts by Hot Wheels (supposedly 15,000 units worldwide), a series that has been subject of an irrational cult by people who are actually more concerned about being "the most popular guys" (like many self proclaimed "experienced collectors" do), than into ponder on the vicious circle around such line, a vicious circle they are financing, like dumb lambs (so, where is their alleged expertise, HUH?)... 

I like Super / Hidden Treasure Hunts and I have a few in my collection (some of them not published yet), but I’m not particularly obsessive into get them, at any cost, as if they were the ultimate loot or things like that; actually, they are part of the mainline, no more no less... 

I prefer to direct my efforts to get products more rewarding, like those offered by Johnny Lightning and albeit not a single 2016 model is part of my collection until now, some of the older models will be introduced soon. 

The Shelby AC Cobra 427 reviewed here, was a model I got through a fellow collector and collectibles importer, who was fan of Coca-Cola promotional and seemingly he decided to let go a few diecast in which he was not very interested (fortunately for me =PPPPP); it was more than 4 years ago. 

It belongs to Coca-Cola Brand / Marque Real Wheels Series, consisting of 12 models and is part of the RC2 Brands Inc. era; like any other collectible officially licensed by Coca-Cola, the models of this series are quite coveted, the diecast replicas made by JL are exceptionally beautiful and better than other offers in small scale by brands like: Matchbox, Corgi, Tomica, Majorette or Siku. 

The diecast came inside a big and thick card, printed in full color, featuring a sober and yet attractive design; albeit I consider a wrong decision to keep the collectibles in their packaging indefinitely (unless you’re a packaging collector or you’re planning to sell them again), I always appreciate a good design. 

It has diecast body and chassis, everything finely detailed and molded, as usual in products by Johnny Lightning, since the Playing Mantis era onwards. 

The paint job was made in glossy red, complemented by a maroon tone in gradient, from the back to the center of the body, with superb tampos everywhere in silver, black, white, red and yellow; the confluence of elements create a precious collectible, that I’m happy to own. 

The interiors in white are also finely detailed, there is a clear plastic insert for the windshield, with the respective side wind visors (a detail that is often neglected by other manufacturers of this model in small scale) and received silver and white tampos to add to its charm. 

The wheels are multipart, combining realistic wired rims with chrome finishing, tampos in copper for the hubcaps and styled rubber tires; there is no openable hood, but the model includes a fantastic slide-out collector tin box, where the Coca-Cola design of the diecast model is replicated and taken to the next level in the holster, while the sliding drawer features a pair of Johnny Lightning logos on the exterior and a top view of the Shelby AC Cobra printed inside; finally, it was made in China...
