2008 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake - Midsize 2-Door Fastback Coupe Pony Car / Muscle Car / Sports Car 2010 Carroll Shelby’s Cars Box Set Series - Limited Edition 1 of 5,000 Diecast Scale 1:64 by Shelby Collectibles

English version
As I mentioned in a previous publication of which you can read here, some essential things have changed quite a bit during these years in the automotive industry; in this particular case, I’m talking about cars resulting from a collaboration between two reputed companies in this segment, that represent a historic milestone...

I mean, the changes have been so important that even the term "collaboration" starts to sound a tad as an euphemism, because most of the work in this specialty car was done by Ford, through its SVT (Special Vehicle Team) Division, currently known as Ford Performance, with Shelby supplying some performance parts and advisory, complemented usually by other aftermarket accessories, made by providers different to the company based in Las Vegas, Nevada...

And the cars themselves, produced by this sort of association between Ford Motor Company and Shelby American Inc., have a very different "behavior" to that of their original counterparts of the second half of the 60s.

Today I’m introducing one of these specialty cars for this review: the 2008 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake, a Midsize 2-Door Fastback Coupe Pony Car / Muscle Car / Sports Car, that is part of the second generation of the model, or rather of the performance package based on the Ford Mustang GT500 of the fifth generation.

The original 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake was truly a specialty car, fitted with a GT40 V8 engine (modified from that of the actual GT40, obviously), commissioned by the, at that time, Goodyear’s sales manager, Don McCain, in order to showcase the line of Thunderball tires, with the most powerful GT500 ever produced.

The Super Snake fulfill that promise, not without a price tag that duplicated the one of the base GT500: it made it just too expensive to consider a 50 units production (the original plan), so only 2 units were modified and sold.

It looks like Ford learned a lot about this experience and this relatively recent rendition of the Super Snake is powerful, but much more "civilized and sophisticated", in the way that a Shelby Mustang can be currently, a car that offers the behavior of a modern Muscle Car, not specially outstanding on the track or on the drag strip, but very good in both, making it a more "versatile" vehicle, at a relatively affordable price for the performance package, that for 2008 had two options: a 650 bhp warranted from factory and a 725 bhp unwarranted...

I like to talk about the period between 2000 and 2010, among other things, because it was late in that decade, when I started to collect, more than merely as a hobby, actually, as a sort of vocation...

That time was important for the industry of collectibles as a whole and obviously for the industry of scale replicas of vehicles in diecast, as I would realize in the next decade, when I started to interact with fellow collectors and I also started to research on my own about the intricacies of the world of collectionism...

During the period between 2000 and 2010, several brands specialized in the design, development, manufacturing and/or distribution of scale replicas in diecast appeared on stage, some of them still continue in the market, with their ups and downs, others are gone for different reasons.

In the last case, probably one of the most important factors for their extinction, is that these brands could not achieve enough inertia in their sales volume to survive, which in turn was the result of a poor awareness among buyers, of their mere existence.

Since the amount of actual collectors is very, very low, companies developing collectibles in figures above 5,000 units per model, hardly last, unless they are strongly oriented to marketing and to buyers.

The issue with this industry, as well as with any other industry, is that massive production will always have the limitation in demand: no matter how much consumerism has created the illusion of an "unlimited demand", there is a maximum of products that a given market can absorb.

We, as collectors, know very well that the market of collectibles is just too big for the existing community, so developers and manufacturers of this kind of goods have to entice buyers in order to keep a high sales rate, specially when, on top of that, their production figures are large.

However, only we the collectors create genuine visibility and a reliable reputation for the brands / products existing in this hobby, buyers just can’t fulfill that role, because knowledge is needed to do so and buyers, just buy, most times not even in a sensible way, you know and then you have sponsored brand promoters, who try to usurp our role as shapers of this hobby...

Companies in this segment, sometimes "a bit" reluctantly and as ironic as it sounds, have to achieve a balance between pleasing collectors and buyers, in order to continue in the business, several fail in that purpose, but that was not the case with Shelby Collectibles, an initiative that was discarded, sadly, by Shelby American, Inc., in 2013...

I got my guest for this publication through the secondary market, obviously, since this brand, as well as others in the Premium and Deluxe categories, were never available in the local primary market.

I resorted to the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer / private seller, pretty much 10 years ago; this one is part of a 10-Cars Collector’s Box Set, of which I have already reviewed some of them here, here, here and here, also featured in the photoshoot.

The model offers full diecast construction, opening hood (with detailed engine bay) and doors, plastic inserts for the headlights and tail lights, signal lights received paint and/or tampos; the proportions are correct as could be expected in an item of the Premium category and there are plenty of details, including side rearview mirrors, but the stance of the model is a bit on the high side of the spectrum.

The paint job in black with glossy finishing, complemented by tampos in matte black for the racing stripes is fabulous, more tampos and/or decals were added for the hood pins, Super Snake emblem on the front grille, front side panels, Shelby logo, fuel cap and Super Snake plate on the tail.

There are also nice details in the chassis, that include the exhausts tips and received silver paint with metal flake finishing, there is a serial number printed and room for customization, since the model was assembled with screws.

The interiors were worked in black, with very good detail; the multipart wheels feature a 10 Spoke rims design in chrome, very similar to the Shelby Alcoa of the actual car, but smaller, styled synthetic rubber tires (they should have a lower profile to match the actual ones) and it was made in China...

Ezk 33:27-29 "Say thou thus unto them: Thus saith the LORD GOD: As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence. For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through. Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed."

2015 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang - Midsize 2-Door 2-Seater Fastback Coupe Pony Car / Muscle Car / Grand Tourer / Sports Car / Track Car / Street Legal Race Car 2016 Night Burnerz Series 7/10 - 87/250 Diecast Scale 1:65 by Hot Wheels

More than 50 years have passed since the introduction of the mythical Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R in 1965, a car that I already featured in my blog, in a publication of which you can read here and many things have changed in the automotive industry ever since...

Gone are the days of racing cars actually built with metal sheet, engines where everything is mechanical, braking system and gearboxes that truly demand you to exercise your muscles, times when the driving feeling of this kind of vehicles was way more visceral and authentic...

We have to talk about that kind of things when we are mentioning a Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, just because the "R" at the end of the name is not an ornament, in fact it means race-specifications, so these cars made a legendary reputation competing strong and winning races.

And we have to bear in mind the origins of the GT350R, when we are considering a recent version of this iconic beast with such a reputation preceding it, because my guest for this publication is precisely that: the 2015 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang, a Midsize 2-Door 2-Seater Fastback Coupe Pony Car / Muscle Car / Grand Tourer / Sports Car / Track Car / Street Legal Race Car.

On the score of the 50th Anniversary of the 1965 racing machine, Ford released the GT350R, along with its peer, the GT350 during a press event in its headquarters (Dearborn, Michigan) and the result is a car noticeably different to its original referent.

The most important changes are not just in form, but in substance: the new GT350R is the brainchild of a Ford program, rather than a collaboration between Ford and Shelby, that in itself makes a lot of difference, besides, this new beast has composite materials and several electronic aids, obviously not available in the original and more importantly, the recent version has a double purpose: track and street (by the way, track cars are not necessarily race cars per se).

Yet, part of the essence of the original GT350R lies in this new version, a car made to withstand consistent acceleration, high-speed cornering and the very technical, aggressive driving you expect from a track car, for hours, not just for minutes and only 37 units were made for 2015.

It features several aerodynamic enhancements and a naturally aspirated 5,2 L, Voodoo Coyote V8 engine, with flat-plane crankshaft, rated at 560 hp, that coupled to a manual-only 6-speed transmission, should be a good tribute to a legend, I guess, a tribute that only lasted until 2020, when its production was discontinued, unfortunately...

When I got this toy car for my collection, honestly I wasn’t expecting to find anything singular about it, since I don’t have high expectations in general terms when it comes to products manufactured by Hot Wheels...

Because first, these items are just toy cars (regardless all the stupid hype brand promoters create around them) and second, Hot Wheels is not known among adult collectors precisely by its high quality standards...

I just got it through the primary market, in a local retail store, pretty much 6 years ago, because I love Mustangs and Shelbys; then it was kind of surprising to find out that actually this toy car has something singular...

It was the work of Dave Root, a former designer at Hot Wheels, who made a very, very short internship, barely 3 months, he’s currently working at Ford and one of the four toy cars he developed during that time was the one I’m featuring for this review...

I have to say that his work on this item is very good for a toy car offered by Hot Wheels; this is the debut of the model for the 2016 Night Burnerz Series, it has had at least 8 iterations, for lines in the Regular category, except one for an Adult line so far.

The model offers diecast body and medium gray plastic chassis, with metallic finishing, the dose of diecast is decent; the paint job was made in anodized dark blue with pearled finishing, similar to one of the options offered for the actual car.

It was complemented by a nice but incomplete decoration (as if it were a surprise with items from the Regular and even Adult lines by Hot Wheels), on the hood, the roof, part of the rear wing and details in the tail of the vehicle, in black and red; I had to add painted details for the front and signal lights, as well as for the exhaust tips and the rear wing.

The interiors were worked in black, with a basic level of detail, the front grille that can be seen through a pair of openings, is part of the chassis and the windows are smoked; the plastic wheels feature 10 Spoke rims design in medium gray and it was made in Malaysia...

Act 20:22-24 "And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the LORD JESUS, to testify the gospel of the grace of GOD."

1968 Ford Shelby Mustang Cobra GT500 - Compact 2-Door 2+2 Fastback Coupe Pony Car / Muscle Car / Grand Tourer / Sports Car 2010 Carroll Shelby’s Cars Box Set Series - Limited Edition 1 of 5,000 Diecast Scale 1:64 plus 1968 Ford Shelby Mustang Cobra GT500 - Compact 2-Door 2+2 Fastback Coupe Pony Car / Muscle Car / Grand Tourer / Sports Car 2006 Shelby Series 1 Diecast Scale 1:64 by Shelby Collectibles

The relationship between Ford and Carroll Shelby, through his company Shelby American Incorporated, two big names in the industry of cars that have been building their own legendary reputation, was rather short when the first contact between them took place, but it was very, very fruitful...

The Ford GT40 was instrumental in this very successful association between the brand of the blue oval and the brand of the cobra, because after its pale debut in endurance racing, the management of the project was transferred from Ford Advanced Vehicles in Slough, United Kingdom to Shelby American in Venice, California, United States...

Somehow, even before some of history was written in motorsports, thanks to the epic performance of the GT40s in the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 1966 and 1969, a strong corporate bond emerged between these two North American companies.

Special versions of the already very popular Ford Mustang were beefed up by Shelby, in order to create an emblematic sports and eventually racing car, that still remains an icon among the numerous Ford and Shelby fans, but also for people "addict" to the world of racing.

This joint-venture started with the light and agile Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 in 1965, but in 1967 it was introduced the even more powerful GT500, of which my guest for the present publication: the 1968 Ford Shelby Mustang Cobra GT500, a Compact 2-Door 2+2 Fastback Coupe Pony Car / Muscle Car / Grand Tourer / Sports Car is the successor.

It was the second year of production of this model and I would say that in a not so gradual way, the involvement of Carroll Shelby and his company was transferred again to Ford, in a move that is very typical of large companies, that want all the control of their operations and products/ services, even the control of the competition if that’s within their reach.

While the ’68 Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500 didn’t lack of style, with a more aggressive overall design, neither of power with 428 cubic inches Police Interceptor V8, 427 cubic inches low-riser V8 or 248 cubic inches Cobra Jet powerplant options, probably the fact that Carroll Shelby was not as involved as before with these beasts, made this iteration and the subsequent ones, not as appealing as the previous ones: two legends working together are better than one alone...

In the automotive industry is not so usual to hear about car brands with a reputation already established, managing by themselves the development and production of scale replicas based on their products: normally these companies are contacted by manufacturers of collectibles and/or promotional in the form of vehicles in diecast, resin or other materials...

Well, that’s not the case with Shelby, this company actually created the Shelby Collectibles initiative and it was operating between 2004 and 2012 - 2013; currently there is a Shelby Store (only online) managed directly by Shelby American, Inc., as well as Team Shelby, both initiatives developed to generate a stronger fan base for the brand, but Shelby Collectibles itself is already out of business...

This fact explains why finding diecast products by the latter is not so easy, anyway Shelby Collectibles didn’t produce millions of units of each model or series, but rather in average between 10,000 and 15,000 units, for some series way less than that: well, that’s appealing in the eyes of a collector, because their scarcity is not artificial, but what’s even more important is that Shelby Collectibles was faithful to its philosophy of making "collectible quality die cast vehicles at affordable pricing".

When you find as collector a brand of collectibles whose reputation was not build through marketing campaigns and misleading advertising, you truly find something valuable for the hobby; unfortunately, at the time when Shelby Collectibles (SC) was in operation, the collectors’ community was not as consolidated as in more recent times, but we definitely need more brands like SC.

I got both samples of the 1968 Ford Shelby Mustang Cobra GT500 through the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer / private seller, pretty much 8 years ago; the first one introduced in the photoshoot is part of a 10-Cars Collector’s Box Set, while the second one came in individual card.

This brand of the Premium category offers models with full diecast construction, opening hood (with detailed engine bay) and doors, plastic inserts for the headlights, front grille and bumper, as well as rear bumper, that includes the tail lights and obviously my guests are no exception; the proportions were managed very well as you expect in this category and there are nice details everywhere.

The paints jobs were made in off-white (Wimbledon White) and bright red with glossy finishing, complemented by very prolix and realistic decorations with tampos and/or decals, including a pair of racing stripes in blue / red and white respectively, several emblems and moldings all around including: windows moldings and wipers, front grille, signal and fog lights, hood pins, G.T. 500 emblems of the rocker panels, doors moldings, gas cap; the chassis received silver paint with metal flake finishing and a detail I forgot to mention in previous reviews: there is a serial number printed on the chassis, that adds a lot of authenticity and exclusivity to the product.

The interiors were worked in black, very well detailed; the multipart wheels feature a beautiful reproduction of the actual Shelby Aluminum 10 Spoke rims design in chrome, styled synthetic rubber tires and they were made in China...

Ezk 29:12-16 "And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries. Yet thus saith the LORD GOD; at the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the people whither they were scattered: And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their habitation; and they shall be there a base kingdom. It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations. And it shall be no more the confidence of the house of Israel, which bringeth their iniquity to remembrance, when they shall look after them: but they shall know that I am the LORD GOD."
