Más de 50 años han pasado desde la introducción del mítico Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R en 1965, un auto que ya presenté en mi blog, en una publicación de la cual puedes leer aquí y muchas cosas han cambiado en la industria automotriz desde entonces...
Atrás quedaron los días de coches de carreras hechos en realidad de lámina metálica, motores donde todo es mecánico, sistemas de freno y cajas de cambios que verdaderamente demandan ejercitar tus músculos, tiempos cuando la sensación de manejo de esta clase de vehículos era mucho más visceral y auténtica...
Tenemos que hablar de esta clase de cosas cuando estamos mencionando al Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, simplemente porque la "R" al final del nombre no es un adorno, de hecho significa especificaciones de carreras, así que estos carros se hicieron una reputación legendaria compitiendo fuerte y ganando carreras.
Y debemos tener en mente los orígenes del GT350R, cuando estemos considerando una versión reciente de esta bestia icónica con semejante reputación precediéndola, porque mi invitado para esta publicación es precisamente eso: el Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang de 2015, un Coupé Fastback de Tamaño Mediano 2 Puertas 2 Plazas Pony Car / Muscle Car / Gran Turismo / Auto Deportivo / Auto de Pista / Auto de Carreras Legal para la Calle.
Con motivo del Aniversario 50º de la máquina de carreras de 1965, Ford lanzó el GT350R, junto con su par, el GT350 durante un evento de prensa en su casa matriz (Dearborn, Michigan) y el resultado es un coche notablemente diferente a su referente original.
Los cambios más importantes no son solo de forma, sino de fondo: el nuevo GT350R es la creación de un programa de Ford, más bien que una colaboración entre Ford y Shelby, eso en sí mismo hace un montón de diferencia, además, esta nueva bestia tiene materiales compuestos y varias ayudas electrónicas, obviamente no disponibles en el original y aún más importante, la versión más reciente tiene un doble propósito: la pista y la calle (por cierto, los carros de pista no son necesariamente carros de carreras per se).
Con todo, parte de la esencia del GT350R original yace en esta nueva versión, un auto hecho para resistir aceleración consistente, giros a alta velocidad y el manejo muy técnico, agresivo que esperas de un coche para la pista, por horas, no solo por minutos y solo 37 unidades fueron hechas para 2015.
Presenta varias mejoras aerodinámicas y un motor aspirado naturalmente de 5,2 L, Voodoo Coyote V8, con cigüeñal plano, clasificado en 560 hp, que acoplado a una transmisión solo manual de 6 marchas, debería ser un buen tributo a una leyenda, sopongo, un tributo que solo duró hasta 2020, cuando su producción fue descontinuada, desafortunadamente...
Cuando conseguí este carro de juguete para mi colección, honestamente no estaba esperando encontrar nada singular sobre él, ya que no tengo expectativas altas en términos generales cuando se trata de productos fabricados por Hot Wheels...
Porque primero, estos artículos son solo autos de juguete (sin importar todo el estúpido bombo que los promotores de marca crean a su alrededor) y segundo, Hot Wheels no es conocida entre coleccionistas adultos precisamente por sus altos estándares de calidad...
Simplemente lo conseguí a través del mercado primario, en una tienda minorista local, hace más o menos 6 años, porque me encantan los Mustangs y Shelbys; entonces fue algo sorpresivo descubrir que en realidad este coche de juguete tiene algo singular...
Fue el trabajo de Dave Root, un ex-diseñador en Hot Wheels, quien hizo una pasantía muy, muy corta, apenas 3 meses, actualmente él está trabajando en Ford y uno de los cuatro carros de juguete que desarrolló durante ese tiempo fue el que estoy presentando en esta reseña...
Tengo que decir que su trabajo en este artículo es muy bueno para un auto de juguete ofrecido por Hot Wheels; este es el debút del modelo para la Serie Night Burnerz de 2016, ha tenido al menos 8 iteraciones, para líneas en la categoría Regular, excepto una para una línea Adulta hasta aquí.
El modelo ofrece carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico gris medio, con acabado metalizado, la dosis de diecast es decente; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en azul oscuro anodizado con acabado perlado, similar a una de las opciones ofrecidas para el coche real.
Fue complementado por una decoración agradable pero incompleta (como si fuera sorpresa con artículos de líneas Regulares e incluso Adultas de Hot Wheels), sobre el capó, el techo, parte del alerón trasero y detalles en la cola del vehículo, en negro y rojo; tuve que añadir detalles pintados para las luces frontales y de señal, así como para las puntas del escape y el alerón trasero.
Los interiores fueron trabajados en negro, con un nivel de detalle básico, la parrilla frontal que puede ser vista a través de un par de aberturas, hace parte del chasis y las ventanas son ahumadas; las ruedas plásticas presentan diseño de rimes 10 Spoke en gris medio y fue hecho en Malasia...

Gone are the days of racing cars actually built with metal sheet, engines where everything is mechanical, braking system and gearboxes that truly demand you to exercise your muscles, times when the driving feeling of this kind of vehicles was way more visceral and authentic...
We have to talk about that kind of things when we are mentioning a Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, just because the "R" at the end of the name is not an ornament, in fact it means race-specifications, so these cars made a legendary reputation competing strong and winning races.
And we have to bear in mind the origins of the GT350R, when we are considering a recent version of this iconic beast with such a reputation preceding it, because my guest for this publication is precisely that: the 2015 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang, a Midsize 2-Door 2-Seater Fastback Coupe Pony Car / Muscle Car / Grand Tourer / Sports Car / Track Car / Street Legal Race Car.
On the score of the 50th Anniversary of the 1965 racing machine, Ford released the GT350R, along with its peer, the GT350 during a press event in its headquarters (Dearborn, Michigan) and the result is a car noticeably different to its original referent.
The most important changes are not just in form, but in substance: the new GT350R is the brainchild of a Ford program, rather than a collaboration between Ford and Shelby, that in itself makes a lot of difference, besides, this new beast has composite materials and several electronic aids, obviously not available in the original and more importantly, the recent version has a double purpose: track and street (by the way, track cars are not necessarily race cars per se).
Yet, part of the essence of the original GT350R lies in this new version, a car made to withstand consistent acceleration, high-speed cornering and the very technical, aggressive driving you expect from a track car, for hours, not just for minutes and only 37 units were made for 2015.
It features several aerodynamic enhancements and a naturally aspirated 5,2 L, Voodoo Coyote V8 engine, with flat-plane crankshaft, rated at 560 hp, that coupled to a manual-only 6-speed transmission, should be a good tribute to a legend, I guess, a tribute that only lasted until 2020, when its production was discontinued, unfortunately...
When I got this toy car for my collection, honestly I wasn’t expecting to find anything singular about it, since I don’t have high expectations in general terms when it comes to products manufactured by Hot Wheels...
Because first, these items are just toy cars (regardless all the stupid hype brand promoters create around them) and second, Hot Wheels is not known among adult collectors precisely by its high quality standards...
I just got it through the primary market, in a local retail store, pretty much 6 years ago, because I love Mustangs and Shelbys; then it was kind of surprising to find out that actually this toy car has something singular...
It was the work of Dave Root, a former designer at Hot Wheels, who made a very, very short internship, barely 3 months, he’s currently working at Ford and one of the four toy cars he developed during that time was the one I’m featuring for this review...
I have to say that his work on this item is very good for a toy car offered by Hot Wheels; this is the debut of the model for the 2016 Night Burnerz Series, it has had at least 8 iterations, for lines in the Regular category, except one for an Adult line so far.
The model offers diecast body and medium gray plastic chassis, with metallic finishing, the dose of diecast is decent; the paint job was made in anodized dark blue with pearled finishing, similar to one of the options offered for the actual car.
It was complemented by a nice but incomplete decoration (as if it were a surprise with items from the Regular and even Adult lines by Hot Wheels), on the hood, the roof, part of the rear wing and details in the tail of the vehicle, in black and red; I had to add painted details for the front and signal lights, as well as for the exhaust tips and the rear wing.
The interiors were worked in black, with a basic level of detail, the front grille that can be seen through a pair of openings, is part of the chassis and the windows are smoked; the plastic wheels feature 10 Spoke rims design in medium gray and it was made in Malaysia...
