Yo dije antes, en publicaciones previas, que en Estados Unidos hay una especie de "culto" por las cosas de tamaño grande y recientemente, cuando viajé allí, me di cuenta que es un rasgo que prácticamente identifica a este país de alguna forma... 

No necesitas ser un antropólogo o sociólogo para llegar a esa conclusión, pero gracias a DIOS, fui capaz de atestiguar lo que esto involucra con mis propios ojos... 

La primera cosa que vi fue el gran Aeropuerto Internacional John F. Kennedy; luego la gran ciudad de la cual es parte: Nueva York; luego sus grandes edificios (especialmente en el Distrito / Municipalidad / Condado de Manhattan - Nueva York); sus grandes carreteras, particularmente las vías expresas; su gente grande (desde luego, hay personas de todos los tamaños, pero especialmente talla XXXL y ¡lo digo en serio! =PPPPP)... 

Todo es grande en ese país del cual Nueva York es una gran tajada, estaba asombrado, cualquiera que haya ido allí, sabrá que no estoy exagerando; puedes ver esto en cosas cotidianas como la comida, quiero decir, incluso las porciones de comida que recibes en cualquier sitio eran grandes (demasiado grandes para mi gusto y digamos que me gusta comer) así que, no es para maravillarse que los vehículos, otro elemento cotidiano de la sociedad moderna, son predominantemente grandes también. 

Referente a un aspecto de dicha industria automotriz, diría que Estados Unidos es la tierra de las camionetas pickup y no quiero dar a entender que no hay otros países produciendo consistentemente esta clase de vehículos, pero las camionetas pickup norteamericanas establecen un estándar propio. 

Mucho de este singular estándar está representado en la siguiente declaración: cuando estamos hablando de camionetas pickup norteamericanas, ¡el tamaño sí importa!... 

General Motors y Chrysler tienen una buena cuota de pickups con ínfulas de camiones, pero Ford ha dominado el arte de hacer camionetas pickup y en realidad, es el rival a vencer; no en vano, esta marca tiene el liderazgo en este segmento donde la competencia es dura. 

Hoy, la invitada para esta publicación es solo uno de los productos que ha ayudado a mantener la marca del óvalo azul en su pedestal: la Camioneta Pickup Ford F-250 2+2 SuperCab Styleside XL Super Duty de 2000, uno de los modelos disponibles para la décima generación de la Serie F, pero parte de una línea independiente (Super Duty), que es designada ya sea como camión para servicio liviano o camioneta pickup para servicio pesado (camión Clase 2b, de acuerdo con la clasificación de los Estados Unidos). 

La línea Super Duty fue introducida en 1998, como una segmentación de la Serie F y si bien tiene ciertas similitudes con el modelo base, a saber la F-150, que esta destinada a compradores comunes, la F-250, F-350, F-450 y F-550 (modelos Super Duty) están destinados a compradores comerciales. 

Con un Peso Bruto Máximo vehicular (GVWR, por sus siglas en inglés) de 8.800 lb (3.992 kg), una Capacidad Máxima de Carga Útil (MPR, por sus siglas en inglés) de 3.560 (1.615 kg), un diseño general atractivo y varonil donde los estilistas Andrew Jacobson y Moray Callum estuvieron involucrados, confiabilidad a largo plazo, una cabina espaciosa, kilometraje decente (considerando su tamaño y propósito), una potencia más que decente gracias a un motor de 444 pulgadas cúbicas, 7.3 L, V8 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel, clasificado en hasta 275 hp, acoplado a una transmisión manual de 5 velocidades con sobremarcha y montones de torque, puedes entender el favoritismo que disfruta entre personas que quieren una compañera para el trabajo duro... 

Ha pasado un tiempo desde la última vez que publiqué una camioneta pickup de Johnny Lightning y aunque mi interés en estos artículos ha crecido con el tiempo, ha sido una tarea difícil conseguirlas, en realidad más difícil que con otras marcas de diecast que también producen esta clase de vehículos a escala. 

Hay varios factores involucrados en la dificultad de conseguirlas, pero creo que hay al menos dos que sobresalen: primero, el realismo en las camionetas pickup hechas por Johnny Lightning es muy superior a lo que puedes encontrar en las Regulares o Adultas de marcas como: Hot Wheels, Matchbox o Majorette y a la par o incluso mejores que aquellas hechas por Jada, Racing Champions, ERTL, Yatming, Revell, Muscle Machines, Greenlight o M2Machines entre otras (con mayor mérito, porque Johnny Lightning trabaja en escalas más pequeñas que la mayoría de las marcas ya mencionadas, logrando un nivel de detalle igual o mayor). 

Y el segundo factor está directamente relacionado: más y más coleccionistas están notando dichas características excepcionales y comprándolas en consecuencia, ya que Johnny Lightning maneja cifras más pequeñas de producción que otras marcas, la disponibilidad se está volviendo un problema; estamos hablando de entre 15.000 y 20.000 unidades de cada modelo para la mayoría de líneas en JL, mientras, por ejemplo, Hot Wheels fácilmente produce 1’000.000 o más unidades de cada modelo de la Línea Principal; en otras palabras, cualquier modelo de JL es una baja producción per se. 

Ahora, últimamente los vendedores locales en el mercado secundario, quienes son de todas maneras la única opción para conseguir artículos de Johnny Lightning, son cada vez más negligentes en términos de servicio al cliente y cumplimiento de reservas así que, estoy cada vez más convencido que es futil desgastarse tratando de hacer negocios con personas que no son serias y que en realidad no les interesa la afición o las necesidades de los coleccionistas. 

No obstante, hay todavía unos pocos colegas coleccionistas e importadores (cada vez menos), que son lo suficientemente conscientes para cuidar a sus clientes y es agradable hacer tratos con ellos; precisamente uno de ellos me ayudó a conseguir la réplica introducida en esta reseña hace más de 5 años. 

Este modelo pertenece a la Serie Muscle Trucks de 2002, que consiste en 6 modelos de diferentes épocas y marcas de autos; por alguna razón varias camionetas pickup disponibles en el catálogo de Johnny Lightning fueron sencillamente omitidas y había material para más lanzamientos, pero esta serie tuvo solo dos, lo que es una lástima. 

A pesar de la calidad del molde, ha sido usado muy pocas veces (6 lanzamientos, hasta donde sé) y es uno de los modelos que verdaderamente merece una segunda oportunidad en esta nueva etapa de la marca Johnny Lightning, como parte de Round 2. 

Tiene construcción completa en diecast (carrocería y chasis); el trabajo de pintura en plateado con escarcha metálica fina luce realmente bien en este modelo y el complemento es una decoración con tampos y/o calcomanías presentando franjas deportivas en negro sobre el capó y los paneles laterales, con tampos adicionales para las luces delanteras, parrila y bómper frontales, molduras de las ventanas, luces de cola y bómper trasero. 

Las ventanas son transparentes mientras los interiores detallados fueron trabajados en negro; tiene ruedas multiparte presentando diseño realista de rimes Cragar en cromado, con ruedas lisas plásticas (que esta vez tenían un problema de control de calidad, ya que una de ellas estaba rota y no lo noté en el momento de la compra, "gajes del oficio", supongo) y fue hecho en China...

I said before, in previous publications, that in United States there is a sort of "cult" for big sized stuff and recently, when I traveled there, I realized that it’s trait that virtually identifies this country somehow... 

You don’t need to be an anthropologist or sociologist to reach that conclusion, but thank GOD, I was able to witness what it involves with my own eyes... 

The first thing I saw was the big John F. Kennedy International Airport; then the big city of which it’s part: New York; then its big buildings (specially in the Manhattan - New York District / Borough / County); its big roads, particularly the expressways; its big people (of course, there are people of all sizes, but specially XXXL size and I mean it! =PPPPP)... 

Everything is big in that country of which New York is a big slice, I was amazed, anyone who has gone there, will know that I’m not exaggerating; you can see this in such everyday things as food, I mean, even the portions of food you receive anywhere were big (too big for my taste and let’s say that I like to eat) so, it’s no wonder that vehicles, another everyday element of the modern society, are predominantly big too. 

Referring to an aspect of such car industry, I would say that United States is the land of pickup trucks and I don’t mean that there are no other countries producing consistently this kind of vehicles, but the American pickup trucks establish a standard of their own. 

Much of this singular standard is represented in the following statement: when we are talking about american pickup trucks, size does matter!... 

General Motors and Chrysler have a good share of pickups with airs of trucks, but Ford has mastered the art of making pickup trucks and actually, is the rival to win; not in vane, this brand has the leadership in this segment where the competition is hard. 

Today, the guest for this publication is just one of the products that has helped to keep the brand of the blue oval on its pedestal: the 2000 Ford F-250 2+2 SuperCab Styleside XL Super Duty, one of the models available for the tenth generation of the F-Series, but part of an independent line (Super Duty), that is designated either as a light duty truck or as a heavy duty pickup truck (Class 2b truck, according to United States classification). 

The Super Duty line was introduced in 1998, as a segmentation of the F-Series and while it has certain similarities with the base model, namely the F-150, which is aimed at common buyers, the F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 (Super Duty models) are aimed at commercial buyers. 

With a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 8,800 lb (3,992 kg), a Maximum Payload Rating (MPR) of 3,560 (1,615 kg), an attractive and manly overall design where the stylists Andrew Jacobson and Moray Callum were involved, long-term reliability, a roomy cabin, decent fuel mileage (considering its size and purpose), a more than decent power thanks to a 444 cu in, 7.3 L, V8 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel engine, rated up to 275 hp, coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive and lots of torque, you can understand the favoristism it enjoys among people who want a hard working partner... 

It’s been a while since the last time I published a pickup truck by Johnny Lightning and althought my interest in these items has grown over time, it has been a hard task for me to get them, actually harder than with other diecast brands which also produce this kind of vehicle in scale. 

There are several factors involved in the difficulty getting them, but I think there are at least two that stand out: first, realism in the american pickup trucks made by Johnny Lightning is far superior than what you find in the Regular or Adult lines of brands like: Hot Wheels, Matchbox or Majorette and at par or even better than those made by Jada, Racing Champions, ERTL, Yatming, Revell, Muscle Machines, Greenlight or M2Machines among others (with greater merit, because Johnny Lightning works in smaller scales than most of the brands already mentioned, achieving equal or greater level of detail). 

And the second factor is directly related: more and more collectors are noticing such outstanding features and buying them accordingly, since Johnny Lightning manage smaller figures of production than other brands, the availability is becoming an issue; we are talking in average of between 15,000 and 20,000 units of each model for most lines in JL, while, for instance, Hot Wheels easily produces 1,000,000 or more units of each model from the Mainline; in other words, any given model by JL is a low production per se. 

Now, lately local sellers in the secondary market, who are anyway the only option to get Johnny Lightning items, are becoming increasingly more neglectful in terms of customer service and reservation fulfillment so, I’m becoming increasingly more convinced that it’s futile to wear out yourself trying to make deals with people who are not serious and actually don’t care about the hobby or the collectors’ needs. 

Nonetheless, there are still a few fellow collectors and importers (every time less) who are acquiscent enough to take care of their customers and it’s nice to make deals with them; precisely one of them helped me to get the replica introduced in this review more than 5 years ago. 

This model belongs to the 2002 Muscle Trucks Series, which consists of 6 models from different times and car brands; for some reason several pickup trucks available in the Johnny Lightning catalog were plainly omitted and there was material for more releases, but this series only had two, which is a pity. 

Despite the quality of the mold, it has been used very few times (6 releases, as far as I know) and it’s one of the models that truly deserves a second chance in this new stage of the Johnny Lightning brand, as part of Round 2. 

It has full diecast construction (body and chassis); the paint job in silver with fine metal flake finishing looks really good in this model and the complement is a decoration with tampos and/or decals featuring sporty stripes in black on the hood and side panels, with additional tampos for the head lights, front grille and bumper, windows moldings, tail lights and rear bumper. 

The windows are clear while the detailed interiors were worked in black; it has multipart wheels featuring realistic Cragar rims design in chrome, with plastic slick tires (that this time had a quality control issue, since one of them was broken and I didn’t notice it at the time of purchase, "occupational hazards", I guess) and it was made in China...
