2002 DAF XF95 480 4x2 FT Super Space Cab COE Heavy Duty Tractor Truck / Semi-Truck - European Specs (DAF XF95) 2012 MBX Autoroute Series MB702 8/10 Plastcast Scale 1:86 by Matchbox

Nadie sabe a ciencia cierta donde terminará un servicio esmerado y oportuno, mucho más cuando consideras que vivimos en un mundo donde todos quieren ser servidos y muy pocos están dispuestos a servir, ¿estoy errado?... 

Supongo que por eso un buen servicio es muy apreciado, simplemente porque es algo que difícilmente encuentras y las personas que trabajan directamente en servicio al cliente sabrán cuán difícil es ofrecer un buen servicio en ciertas circunstancias o en especial, a cierto tipo de personas... 

Parece que Hubert van Doorne, un tipo oriundo de America, Limburgo Holandés (Países Bajos), herrero, mecánico de autos e ingeniero, quien apredió el oficio de la herrería de su padre, era muy comprometido con su trabajo... 

Uno de sus clientes era A. H. Huenges, director y propietario de la Fabrica de Hielo y Cervecería de Coolen; él estaba tan complacido con el servicio dado por Hubert (Hub) a su coche, que decidió invertir y co-fundar el Taller de Trabajos de Ingeniería y Reparaciones Hub van Doorne, localizado en una pequeña área en la planta de la cervecería, hacia 1928. 

Este negocio era capaz de fabricar y reparar diversos artículos como: gabinetes, escaleras, marcos de ventanas, pero la mayoría de trabajos comisionados estaban relacionados con remolques así que, en 1932, fue decidido renombrar la compañía y así es como nació Van Doorne’s Aanhangwagenfabriek N.V. (más tarde conocida como Van Doorne’s Automobiel Fabriek), DAF para abreviar. 

Es notable que aunque la principal línea de negocio en DAF ha sido el desarrollo y fabricación de camiones de servicio mediano y pesado, remolques y buses, uno de los sueños de los hermanos Doorne (que trabajaron juntos en esta empresa) era la creación de vehículos de pasajeros, y dicho sueño se volvió realidad en 1958. 

La innovación ha sido un elemento clave en el éxito de esta compañía, DAF ha construido un reputación fuerte principalmente en Europa, no solo creando vehículos para el transporte profesional a largas distancias, sino también en competencias como el Rally Paris-Dakar, ganando varias veces en la categoría de camiones, desde 1982. 

Este éxito no previno que DAF fuera declarada en quiebra en 1993, debido al colapso del mercado de los vehículos comerciales; sin embargo, una nueva compañía: DAF Trucks N.V. fue creada unas pocas semanas más tarde y en 1996, DAF fue adquirida por el conglomerado PACCAR, asegurando de algún modo su continuidad. 

Estoy introduciendo un modelo que es parte de esta nueva etapa de DAF como marca de PACCAR: El Tracto-Camión de Servicio Pesado / Semi-Camión CSM DAF XF95 480 4x2 FT Super Space Cab - Especificaciones Europeas. 

En 2002, la línea XF fue sometida a una modernización después de su introducción en 1997; hubo un facelift que mejoró la aerodinámica, pero el diseño global de carrocería con líneas limpias y un claro énfasis en la parrilla frontal, que es de todas maneras la característica más distintiva de esta marca desde 1949, fue preservado. 

La cabina fue revisada también, con el fin de ofrecer gran comodidad (una necesidad en viajes largos); la Super Space Cab es, como su designación implica, la más espaciosa; la planta de poder para este camión es un motor de 769 pulgadas cúbicas, 12.6 L, 6 Cilindros 24 Válvulas XE-C Diesel, clasificado en 480 hp y acoplada a una transmisión manual de 16 velocidades ZF Servoshift (cumple con los estándares Euro-3), lo cual supongo representa un vehículo serio cuando se trata de semi-camiones para trabajo pesado, ¿cierto?... 

Hablando de compañías adquiridas por conglomerados, aquí vamos de nuevo con un grandioso modelo de diecast por Matchbox (propiedad de Mattel desde 1997) y de hecho, el primer ejemplo en el segmento de los tracto camiones, en serio, uno de mis favoritos... 

Matchbox, especialmente durante la era pre-Mattel, ha sido una buena fuente de camiones en casi cualquier forma que pudieras imaginar, basados en vehículos reales o modelos de diseñador, también en varias escalas y en ese sentido, supera por lejos a su gran hermana azul. 

La intervención de Mattel ha incrementado el número de modelos de concepto / diseñador en el catálogo Matchbox, los cuales no han sido muy bien recibidos por los coleccionistas y tengo que estar de acuerdo, hasta cierto punto, con este rechazo generalizado; aunque algunos camiones no basados en vehículos reales son verdaderas joyas... 

Con todo, la fortaleza de Matchbox es el realismo y ha sido su rasgo fundamental prácticamente desde su creación, mucho más cuando sus directivos se dieron cuenta del potencial de dicho rasgo entre los coleccionistas, mucho antes que sus rivales. 

Mattel se las ha arreglado para mantener a Matchbox conectada con sus raíces, obviamente con sus altas y bajas, pero esta es una muestra singular del lindo trabajo de MBX en este tipo de vehículos. 

Esta interpretación del DAF XF95 de 2002 Super Space Cab es simplemente espléndida, con un excelente nivel de detalle para un artículo perteneciente a las líneas regulares, luce más deportiva que su contraparte real, tal vez por causa de la proporción de las ruedas. 

Pero no puedo evitar estar decepcionado por la cantidad de plástico usado (65% de todo el molde, aproximadamente), lo que no está a la par con la tradición de Matchbox; sin embargo, me temo que una cantidad más decente de diecast pondría a este modelo automáticamente en las líneas adultas o sacaría el modelo de producción, de acuerdo con las odiosas políticas actuales de Mattel. 

Este modelo fue lanzado en 2008, como parte de la Serie City Action; hasta ahora, solo 7 iteraciones han sido hechas y solo para las líneas regulares; conseguí el mío con la ayuda de un amigo, colega coleccionista e importador, hace cuatro años o algo así. 

Mi DAF XF95 pertenece a la Serie MBX Autoroute, que comprende 10 modelos; si bien no estoy particularmente interesado en mencionar características del empaque para artículos MBX o HW (porque no colecciono empaques, es así de simple), el diseño de tarjeta para esta línea y específicamente para este modelo es soberbio... 

Tiene carrocería en diecast y chasis en plastico amarillo y negro; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en azul cian, presentando una decoración especial que ha sido usada en varios modelos (normalmente camiones de servicio pesado y maquinaria), con un elemento en común: INC Construction, una "compañía" ficticia que me parece muy realista, creada por Matchbox, incluyendo tampos y/o calcomanías en blanco, amarillo, negro y plateado. 

Los interiores espartanos fueron trabajados en negro, con ventanas transparentes, las ruedas plásticas presentan diseño de rimes Ringed Gear con acabado cromado y fue hecho en Tailandia...

Nobody knows for sure where a painstaking and timely service will end, much more when you consider that we live in a world where everyone wants to be served and very few are willing to serve, am I wrong?... 

I guess that’s why a good service is much appreciated, just because it’s something you hardly find and people who work directly in customer service will know how hard is to offer a good service in certain circumstances or specially, to certain kind of persons... 

It looks like Hubert van Doorne, a guy from America, Dutch Limburg (Netherlands), blacksmith, car mechanic and engineer, who learned the craft of blacksmith from his father, was very committed with his work... 

One of his customers was A. H. Huenges, owner and director of Coolen’s Brewery and Ice Factory; he was so pleased with the service given by Hubert (Hub) to his car, that he decided to invest and co-fund the Hub van Doorne Engineering Works and Repair Shop, located in a small area on the ground of the brewery, by 1928. 

This business was able to manufacture and repair diverse items like: cabinets, ladders, window frames, but most of the commisioned works were related with trailers so, in 1932, it was decided to rename the company and that’s how Van Doorne’s Aanhangwagenfabriek N.V. (later known as Van Doorne’s Automobiel Fabriek), DAF for short, was born. 

It’s remarkable that albeit the main business line in DAF has been the development and manufacturing of medium and heavy duty trucks, trailers and buses, one of the Doorne brothers’ dreams (who worked together in this enterprise) was the creation of passenger vehicles, and such dream came true in 1958. 

Innovation has been a key element in the success of this company, DAF has built a strong reputation mainly in Europe, not only creating vehicles for professional long distance hauling, but also in competitions like the Paris-Dakar Rally, winning several times in the trucks category, since 1982. 

This success didn’t prevent that DAF was filed for bankruptcy in 1993, due to the collapse of the commercial vehicle market; however, a new company: DAF Trucks N.V. was created a few weeks later and in 1996, DAF was acquired by the PACCAR conglomerate, assuring somehow its continuity. 

I’m introducing a model that is part of this new stage of DAF as a PACCAR brand: the 2002 DAF XF95 480 4x2 FT Super Space Cab COE Heavy Duty Tractor Truck / Semi-Truck - European Specs. 

In 2002, the XF line undergone a modernization after its introduction in 1997; there was a facelift that improved aerodynamics, but the overall body design with clean lines and a clear emphasis in the front grille, which is anyway the most distinctive feature of this brand since 1949, was preserved. 

The cabin was also revised, in order to offer great comfort (a must in long trips); the Super Space Cab is, as its designation implies, the roomiest; the power plant for this lorry is a 769 cu in, 12.6 L, 6-Cylinder 24-valve XE-C Diesel engine, rated a 480 hp and coupled to a 16-speed ZF Servoshift manual transmission (it meets Euro-3 standards), which I guess represents a serious vehicle when it comes to heavy duty semi-trucks, right?... 

Talking about companies acquired by conglomerates, here we go again with a great diecast model by Matchbox (property of Mattel since 1997) and in fact, the first example in the segment of tractor trucks, seriously, one of my favorites... 

Matchbox, specially during its pre-Mattel era, has been a good source of trucks in almost any form you could imagine, based on actual vehicles or designer models, also in several scales and in that sense, it surpass by far its blue big brother. 

The intervention of Mattel has increased the number of concept / designer models in the Matchbox catalog, which have been not so well received by collectors and I have to agree, up to a point, with this generalized rejection; albeit some trucks not based on actual vehicles are true gems... 

Yet, the strength of Matchbox is the realism and it has been its fundamental trait virtually since its creation, much more when its managers realized the potential of such trait among collectors, way before its rivals. 

Mattel has managed so far to keep Matchbox connected with its roots, obviously with its ups and downs, but this is a singular sample of the nice work of MBX in this kind of vehicles. 

This rendition of the 2002 DAF XF95 Super Space Cab is simply splendid, with an excellent level of detail for an item belonging to regular lines, it looks sportier than its actual counterpart, maybe because of the proportion of the wheels. 

But I cannot help being disappointed by the amount of plastic used (65% of the whole cast), which is not on par with the tradition of Matchbox; however, I’m afraid that a more decent amount of diecast would put this model automatically in the adult lines or it would take out the model of production, according to the hateful current Mattel policies. 

This model was released for 2008, as part of the City Action Series; until now, only 7 iterations has been made and only for the regular lines; I got mine with the help of a friend, fellow collector and importer, four years ago or so. 

My DAF XF95 belongs to the MBX Autoroute Series, that comprises 10 models; while I’m not particularly interested into mention features of the packaging for MBX or HW items (because I don’t collect packagings, is that simple), the card design for this line and specifically for this model is superb... 

It has diecast body and plastic chassis in yellow and black; the paint job was made in cyan blue, featuring a special decoration that has been used in several models (normally heavy duty trucks and machinery), with one element in common: INC Construction, a fictious "company" that seems very realistic for me, created by Matchbox, including tampos and/or decals in white, yellow, black and silver. 

The spartan interiors were worked in black, with clear windows, the plastic wheels feature Ringed Gear rims design, with chrome finishing and it was made in Thailand...
