Una asociación o más bien, como es conocida en los ámbitos del comercio y la industria, un "proyecto conjunto" entre Alemania y Austria, parecía para mí un factor poco probable que eventualmente llevaría al desarrollo de la Serie G de Mercedes-Benz, hasta que me di cuenta que ese era exactamente el caso para este vehículo peculiar... 

Siempre pensé que la G-Klass era un producto creado enteramente por la marca alemana de la estrella de tres puntas y no era simplemente una suposición infundada mía; después de todo, sabía muy bien acerca de los orígenes militares de este vehículo y la "tradición militar" de los gobiernos de Alemania. 

A propósito, la "G" en esta línea significa "Geländewagen", cuya transliteración es a su vez: "vehículo para campo traviesa" o "vehículo todo terreno", y el perfil de este producto estaba lejos de aquello por lo que es conocido hoy. 

Pero sí, el "G" fue un desarrollo "a dos manos" entre Mercedes-Benz y el consorcio de ingeniería austriaco Steyr-Daimler-Puch, aunque este último estuvo a cargo del ensamblaje y producción final, también vale la pena mencionar que este consorcio está dedicado principalmente a proyec tos militares, así que no es sorpresa que desde un principio fuera desarrollado con aplicaciones militares en mente. 

Hablando del perfil del "G", la idea con este proyecto era crear un vehículo con las prestaciones y desempeño de algunos productos todoterreno como: Land Rover Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, Nissan Patrol / Safari o Jeep CJ-5: fornido, confiable, práctico, espacioso, capaz de ir prácticamente a cualquier lado, nada pretencioso en realidad. 

Algunas personas plantean que el Unimog fue el ancestro directo de la "G" Klass y si bien estoy de acuerdo con que algunos elementos de ingeniería del primero pueden ser vistos en este último y es un producto de la misma marca, un ancestro más cercano de este todoterreno / VDU icónico, en términos de su tipología, puede ser más bien el Volkswagen Kübelwagen, otro vehículo multipropósito militar del cual habrá una publicación en el futuro, si DIOS permite. 

Junto con las versiones militares de este vehículo, el "G" fue ofrecido también en versiones comerciales y civiles, en varias configuraciones: convertible 2 puertas, vagoneta 2 puertas, vagoneta panel 2 puertas, vagoneta de pasajeros 4 puertas, pickups, etc., aparte de aquellos específicamente modificados para aplicaciones militares y fue lanzado originalmente para 1979. 

Hoy, para esta publicación estoy introduciendo una de las interpretaciones de este todoterreno famoso: el Mercedes-Benz Serie G (G-Klasse) G55 AMG 4Matic AWD / 4x4 de 2009 - 2011, un VDU Tototerreno / Vagoneta de Tamaño Mediano Ejecutivo / De Lujo 5 Puertas, con Especificaciones Americanas (Volante a la Izquierda), un representante de la segunda generación de la línea. 

Mientras que el "G" se las ha arreglado para mantener su "esencia intacta" en términos de diseño exterior, ha visto, no obstante, varias actualizaciones evolutivas y algunas variaciones / ediciones especiales extravagantes han sido desarrolladas con el tiempo. 

Por ejemplo, un mastodonte de 6 ruedas (G 63 AMG 6x6), una vagoneta super-elevada (G 550 4x42), un SUV ultra-lujoso (Maybach G 650), una vagoneta potenciada por un V12 más bien absurda (G 65) y la lista continúa, incluyendo modificaciones del mercado posventa hechas por reputados personalizadores dentro de los cuales podemos mencionar: Mansory, Brabus, Hofele, Klassen, Phillip Plein y similares... 

Debo confesar que estaba buscando este modelo, en esta interpretación particular de Kyosho, desde hace bastante tiempo; el G Wagon, con su forma encajada, pergaminos todoterreno, estilo utilitario y con todo rimbombante, y su herencia germano-austríaca, ha sido un gran favorito mío y tan inusual como podría sonar, unos pocos ejemplos de esta bestia han sido importados a mi patria, así que lo he visto en persona y me encanta... 

Lo conseguí con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador / vendedor privado hace más de 7 años; su adquisición estuvo lejos de ser fácil, de hecho, mi primer intento fue un fracaso, porque alguien más lo consiguió antes que me diera cuenta que estaba disponible, así que le pedí a este amigo mío conseguir otra unidad, pero tuve que esperar algunos meses antes que estuviera disponible de nuevo, pienso que la espera valió la pena... 

Por la época en que lo conseguí, en algún punto de 2016, esta réplica a escala de Kyosho era la única opción en este mercado para obtener un "G" Klass de la categoría Premium y tanto el vehículo real como la mini-réplica han sido favoritos entre coleccionistas; este factor añadió dificultad a la adquisión también. 

Hoy en día hay varias réplicas a escala para escoger en escala 1:64 o alrededor de esta escala, aunque sus precios pueden variar bastante, con ejemplos de: iScale, Para 64, MotorHelix, Era Car, Tarmac, XCarToys y Almost Real, hasta donde sé, junto con unas pocas versiones EOF (OEM), pero la interpretación de Kyosho ha pasado la prueba del tiempo bastante bien. 

Para la Serie AMG Minicar Collection de 2011, a la que mi invitado pertenece, fue ofrecido en negro, blanco y la versión plateada que estoy presentando aquí; este modelo particular es ahora genuinamente difícil de encontrar y más bien caro; sin embargo, recientemente el modelo fue lanzado de nuevo en la presentación actual (caja con ventana, a diferencia de la caja ciega anterior), en varios colores, incluyendo: amarillo, verde manzana, naranja, rosa fuerte, blanco, plateado, gris, morado y azul rey. 

Tiene carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico negro; el nivel de detalle es fabuloso como siempre con esta marca, el chasis recibió toques pintados en plateado, para el sistema de escape y la calidad general de este artículo Premium es excelente, nada que envidiar a las interpretaciones más recientes ofrecidas por otras marcas de diecast; con todo, la escala no es 1:64, sino 1:71 y eso es un poquitín decepcionante. 

El trabajo de pintura fue hecho en plateado con acabado metalizado y el resultado es fantástico; está complementado por tampos y/o calcomanías extensivos, sobre todos los paneles de la carrocería, colocados con precisión, tampos y/o calcomanías adicionales fueron incluidos para las molduras de las ventanas y la cubierta para la rueda de repuesto atrás, parte de la cual recibió acabado cromado; hay insertos plásticos para las luces frontales y de cola, espejos retrovisores laterales y obviamente la rueda de repuesto cubierta. 

Los interiores fueron trabajados en negro, con la misma calidad del exterior; las ruedas son multiparte, presentando un diseño de rimes realista y agradable 5 Spokes en plateado oscuro / bronce, con labio plateado y llantas en caucho sintético labradas; hay una base de exhibición en negro, presentando el nombre del modelo impreso en plateado y fue hecho en China...

An association or rather, as it’s known in the a fields of commerce and industry, a "joint-venture" between Germany and Austria, seemed for me a very unlikely factor that would eventually lead to the development of the G Series by Mercedes-Benz, until I realized that was exactly the case for this peculiar vehicle... 

I always thought that the G-Klass was a product entirely created by the German three pointed stars brand and it was not just an unfounded assumption of mine; after all, I knew very well about the military origins of this vehicle and the "military tradition" of the governments of Germany. 

By the way, the "G" in this line stands for "Geländewagen", whose transliteration is in turn: "cross-country vehicle" or "all-terrain vehicle", and the profile of this product was far from what it’s know for today. 

But yeah, the "G" was a "two-handed" development between Mercedes-Benz and the Austrian engineering consortium Steyr-Daimler-Puch, albeit the latter was in charge of the final assembly and production, also it’s worth mentioning that this consortium is dedicated mainly to military projects, so it’s no surprise that from the get go it were developed with military applications in mind. 

Speaking about the profile of the "G", the idea with this project was to create a vehicle with the features and performance of some off-road products like: Land Rover Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, Nissan Patrol / Safari or Jeep CJ-5: sturdy, reliable, practical, roomy, capable of going virtually anywhere, nothing pretentious actually. 

Some people pose that the Unimog was the direct ancestor of the "G" Klass and while I agree that some engineering elements of the first one can be seen in the latter and it’s a product of the same brand, a closer ancestor of this iconic off-road / SUV, in terms of its typology, can be rather the Volkswagen Kübelwagen, another multipurpose military vehicle of which there will be a publication in the future, if GOD allows. 

Along with military versions of this vehicle, the "G" was offered as well in commercial and civilian versions, in several configurations: 2-door convertible, 2-door wagon, 2-door panel wagon, 4-door passengers wagon, pickups, etc., apart from those specifically modified for military applications and it was released originally for 1979. 

Today, for this publication I’m introducing one of the renditions of this famous off-road: the 2009 - 2011 Mercedes-Benz G Series (G-Klasse) G55 AMG 4Matic AWD / 4x4, a Midsize Executive / Luxury 5-Door Off-Road SUV / Wagon, with American Specs (Left Hand Drive), a representative of the second generation of the line. 

While the "G" has managed to keep its "essence intact" in terms of exterior design, it has seen, nonetheless, several evolutive updates and some extravagant variations / special editions have been developed over time. 

For instance, a 6-wheeled mastodont (G 63 AMG 6x6), a superlifted wagon (G 550 4x42), an ultra-luxurious SUV (Maybach G 650), a rather absurd V12 powered wagon (G 65) and the list goes on, including aftermarket modifications made by reputed customizers among we can mention: Mansory, Brabus, Hofele, Klassen, Phillip Plein and the like... 

I must confess I was looking for this model, in this particular rendition by Kyosho, since long ago; the G Wagon, with its boxy shape, off-road scrolls, utilitarian yet flamboyant styling and its German-Austrian heritage, has been a great favorite of mine and as unusual as it might sound, a few examples of this beast have been imported to my homeland, so I have seen it in flesh more than once and I love it... 

I got it with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer / private seller more than 7 years ago; its acquisition was far from easy, in fact, my first try was a failure, because someone else got it before I realized it was available, so I asked this friend of mine to get another unit, but I had to wait a few months before it were available again: I think the wait was worth it... 

By the time I got it, at some point of 2016, this scale replica by Kyosho was the only option in this market to get a "G" Klass of the Premium category and both the actual vehicle and the mini-replica have been favorites among collectors; this factor added difficulty to the acquisitions as well. 

Nowadays there are several scale replicas to choose in 1:64 scale or around this scale, albeit their prices can vary quite a bit, with examples by: iScale, Para 64, MotorHelix, Era Car, Tarmac, XCarToys and Almost Real, as far as I know, along with a few OEM versions, but the Kyosho rendition has stood the test of time quite well. 

For the 2011 AMG Minicar Collection Series, to which my guest belongs, it was offered in black, white and the silver version I’m featuring here; this particular model is now genuinely hard to find and rather expensive; however, recently the model was released again in the current presentation (window box, unlike the previous blind box), in several colors, including: yellow, apple green, orange, hot pink, white, silver, gray, purple and royal blue. 

It has diecast body and black plastic chassis; the level of detail is fabulous as always with this brand, the chassis received painted touches in silver, for the exhaust system and the overall quality of this Premium item is excellent, nothing to envy to more recent renditions offered by other diecast brands; yet the scale is not 1:64, but 1:71 and that’s a bit disappointing. 

The paint job was made in silver with metallic finishing and the result is fantastic; it’s complemented by extensive tampos and/or decals, on all the panels of the body, accurately placed, additional tampos and/or decals were included for the windows moldings and the cover for the spare wheels at the rear, part of which received chrome finishing; there are plastic inserts for the front and tail lights, rearview side mirrors and obviously the covered spare wheel. 

The interiors were worked in black, with the same quality of the exterior; the wheels are multipart, featuring a realistic and nice 5 Spokes rims design in dark silver / gunmetal, with silver lip and styled synthetic rubber tires; there is a display base in black, featuring the name of the model printed in silver and it was made in China...

He escuchado o leído varias veces una idea que más o menos plantea: "los juguetes que tuviste durante tu infancia, tienen una influencia notable en tus gustos como coleccionista adulto" y discrepo con ella, principalmente porque soy uno de los varios coleccionistas adultos cuyos gustos son bastante diferentes de lo que tuve como parte de mis juegos en mis años mozos... 

Si me lo preguntas, no tuve muchos juguetes cuando era niño, aunque me encantaban; con todo, le agradezco a DIOS por todo lo que mis padres fueron capaces de brindarme y tengo que admitir que, en vista de la "escasez de juguetes", tuve un montón de diversión con mis amigos, jugando afuera, algo que no ves muy a menudo entre niños y jóvenes hoy en día... 

En ese sentido, no podría decir que tuve muchas referencias para escoger de mi infancia, que me llevaran a tener un gusto tan variado e "inusual" con respecto a los juguetes y coleccionables; quizás es muy al contrario: la "escasez de juguetes" me hizo más curioso por los coleccionables "poco comúnes", más bien que por los "populares"... 

Por otro lado, lo que creo que es más decisivo en moldear tus gustos como coleccionista adulto, es la influencia que tus lecturas y lo que miras a través de los diferentes medios visuales durante tu juventud, tienen en tu mentalidad, aunque algunas cosas de las que te gustaron como niño permanecen como parte de tus gustos el resto de tu vida. 

Desde que puedo recordar, me han gustado los autos y otra clase de vehículos, es algo que he compartido en reseñas previas, así que mis lectores habituales ya lo saben, pero cuando se trata de esta afición, los vehículos no fueron mi primera elección cuando empecé mi colección. 

De hecho, series de animé / manga, cómics, películas, series de TV, principalmente de la cultura japonesa e incluso libros de ciencia ficción, fueron mucho más influyentes para mí y por eso es que los primeros artículos que obtuve para mi colección fueron inspirados por este tipo de productos culturales: las publicaciones más antiguas en este blog son evidencia de esto y todavía presento esa clase de reseñas de vez en cuando. 

Ahora, si revisas las publicaciones en mi blog, verás que muchas de ellas estan relacionadas con coches de juguete y modelos a escala en diecast, pero no tuve ninguno de ellos en mi infancia, así que claramente no fueron un punto de referencia para mi colección. 

Eso es precisamente lo que estoy plateando con respecto a porque estoy en desacuerdo con la declaración: "los juguetes que tuviste durante tu infancia, tienen una influencia notable en tus gustos como coleccionista adulto". 

Sin embargo, en los días de mi juventud, una especie de gusto "repentino" por los modelos en diecast surgió y más tarde, cuando ya iba a través de mi jornada como coleccionista adulto, este gusto se consolidó; en ambos casos, mis elecciones estaban lejos de la corriente principal del coleccionismo de diecast local y eso es muy coherente con las influencias que tuve durante mi juventud y adultez joven. 

Quiero decir, cuando se trata de escalas más pequeñas, mis elecciones en modelos en diecast incluyeron productos hechos por: Majorette, Greenlight, M2 Machines, Johnny Lightning, Norev, Muscle Machines, Road Champs, Revell, Racing Champions, Eligor, Jada, Motormax, Minichamps, Welly, Shelby Collectibles, 1 Badd Ride, CM’s Corporation, etc. 

En escalas más grandes, por otro lado, marcas como: Del Prado, Universal Hobbies, Cararama, Autoart, Solido, Schuco, Vitesse, etc., ofrecieron productos que llegaron a ser parte de mi colección y vine a conocer las marcas más "populares" y últimamente hiperpublicitadas: Hot Wheels y Matchbox, en una etapa posterior... 

Mi invitado para esta reseña es una combinación de mi gusto de todos los tiempos por los carros y vehículos en general, con mi gusto por la cultura japonesa; obviamente, no es la clase de elección que llamarías "popular", especialmente en mi patria y eso es de esperarse... 

La Línea Tomica de autos de juguete en diecast es un producto de Takara Tomy, una de las pocas compañías ofreciendo productos en este segmento en el país del sol naciente; la mayoría de fabricantes de modelos en diecast en Japón trabajan con réplicas a escala para coleccionistas adultos, más bien que con coches de juguete y sus productos son ofrecidos mayoritariamente en escalas más grandes, aunque algunas de estas marcas ofrecen modelos en escala 1:64 también. 

Estoy hablando acerca de marcas como: Kyosho, Ebbro, Spark, que todavía producen esta clase de artículos o Hobby Japan, una tienda de coleccionables que trabaja principalmente en línea, pero comenzó recientemente en este segmento de los modelos en diecast; también sobre marcas como: Aoshima, CM’s y Tamiya, que una vez ofrecieron modelos en diecast pero hasta aquí, ese ya no es el caso, ya sea porque las compañías se fueron a la bancarrota o porque en la actualidad trabajan con otra clase de productos. 

Además, tengo que mencionar fabricantes japoneses de carros, que ofrecen modelos a escala en diecast en sus propias boutiques de concesionario, como: Subaru, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota y Honda; modelos que son tercerizados a fabricantes de modelos en diecast. 

Ahora, mi primer contacto con Tomica no fue siquiera con su Línea de autos de juguete, sino más bien con su Línea Premium, a saber Tomica Limited Vintage / Neo, uno de los varios referentes en esta categoría de modelos en diecast y en realidad no "lo mejor de lo mejor", como algunos así llamados "conocedores" reclaman, sino uno de las mejores; puedes leer sobre ese excelente modelo aquí. 

Por los coleccionables desarrollados para el mercado japonés, puedes decir con seguridad que su comunidad de coleccionistas es más exigente en términos de calidad, que en otras regiones del mundo y eso es lo que percibes observando mi invitado: como coleccionista adulto, esa es la clase de filosofía que respeto y sigo en este gremio. 

A pesar del hecho que mi invitado es un coche de juguete, con la mayoría de limitaciones en términos de nivel de detalle, realismo, cantidad de partes, etc., ves un producto de calidad que sobrepasa en varios aspectos artículos similares desarrollados por las marcas de carros de juguete de Mattel. 

Ya que este es el único producto perteneciente a la Linea Principal de Tomica, que es parte de mi colección, quería que fuera algo relativamente inusual y esta marca japonesa es conocida principalmente por coches de juguete representando vehículos populares en su mercado local, luego digamos que este icónico VDU no es la clase de carro que verás allí de forma regular. 

Está basado en el Jeep Wrangler (JK) Unlimited Sport VDU 4 Puertas Techo Duro 4WD (Jeep Wrangler) de 2010 - 2015, un VDU (Vehículo Deportivo Utilitario) Vagoneta Compacta Todoterreno Liviana 4 Puertas y debo decir que es una interpretación muy agradable de este modelo, aún mejor, en una escala muy cercana a 1:64; este es el debút del modelo para 2015 y fue lanzado junto con una versión amarilla. 

Lo conseguí a través del mercado secundario, con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador / vendedor privado, hace más o menos 8 años y los productos de Tomica son imposibles de adquirir localmente a través de los canales regulares de distribución. 

Este es un lanzamiento para el mercado japonés, venía dentro de una bolsa transparente, que a su vez venía en la caja de cartón blanca y roja ahora estándar, impresa a todo color por fuera y está cubierta por una envoltura en celofán. 

Han habido otras versiones: una en blanco como un Thrilling Montain Exclusive, una en naranja como parte del Set de Regalo de 4 autos "Drive to the Mountains!" ("¡Conduce a las Montañas!"), una en azul cian, azul oscuro y blanco para un Set Firefighter Collection (Colección Bombero), una en verde oliva 75th Anniversary Dealer Edition (Edición de Concesionario 75º Aniversario) y fue lanzado incluso como patrulla, una con decoración de Policía de los Países Bajos y otra como Tomica Event Model Exclusive, presentando un inserto plástico para la barra de luces. 

Este Jeep ofrece carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico negro, con un nivel de detalle más que decente; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en verde oscuro con acabado brillante, un poquitín grueso, pero muy bien aplicado y complementado por detalles como extensiones de guardafandos pintadas en negro con acabado satinado, más varios tampos y/o calcomanías para las luces frontales, logos Jeep al frente y en la cubierta de llanta de repuesto, en plateado y luces de cola rojas, parte del techo recibió pintura negra con acabado brillante también. 

Hay un inserto plástico para el techo duro removible, un extra muy bonito; el molde del chasis incluyó los estribos laterales, támbién los bómperes frontal y trasero; tiene ventanas transparentes y los interiores fueron trabajados en negro, con un nivel de detalle básico y plástico de buena calidad, la barra antivuelco es demasiado gruesa, pero siendo un carro de juguete, es de esperarse, aunque no es del todo excusable; las ruedas multiparte presentan un diseño de rimes muy básico 8 Dots en gris claro, no tan realista, pero tampoco feo, llantas en plástico labradas y fue hecho en Vietnam...

I have heard or read several times an idea that pretty much poses: "the toys you had during your infancy, have a remarkable influence in your tastes as adult collector" and I disagree with it, mainly because I’m one of the several adult collectors whose tastes are quite different to what I had as part of my games during my early years... 

If you ask me, I didn’t have many toys when I was a kid, albeit I loved them; yet, I thank GOD for everything my parents were able to give me and I have to admit that, in view of the "toy shortage", I had a lot of fun with my friends, playing outside, something you don’t see so often among kids and youngsters nowadays... 

In that sense, I couldn’t say I had many references to choose from my infancy, that led me to have such a varied and "unusual" taste regarding toys and collectibles; perhaps it’s quite the opposite: the "toy shortage" made me more curious for "uncommon" collectibles, rather than for the "popular" ones... 

On the other hand, what I think is more decisive into molding your tastes as adult collector, is the influence that your readings and what you watch through the different visual media during your youth, have in your mindset, albeit somehow some of the things you liked as child remain part of your tastes the rest of your life. 

Since I can remember, I have liked cars and other kind of vehicles, it’s something I have shared in previous reviews, so my usual readers already know it, but when it comes to this hobby, vehicles were not my first choice when I started my collection. 

In fact, anime / manga series, comics, movies, TV series, mainly from the Japanese culture and even science fiction books, were much more influential for me and that’s why the first items I got for my collection were inspired by this kind of cultural products: the older publications in this blog are evidence of this and I still feature that kind of reviews every now and then. 

Now, if you check the publications in my blog, you will see that many of them are related with diecast toy cars and scale models, but I didn’t have any of them in my infancy, so clearly they were not a point of reference for my collection. 

That’s precisely what I’m posing regarding why I disagree with the statement: "the toys you had during your infancy, have a remarkable influence in your tastes as adult collector". 

However, in the days of my youth, a sort of "sudden" taste for diecast models arose and later, when I was already going through my journey as adult collector, this taste was consolidated; in both cases, my choices were far from the mainstream of local diecast collectionism and that’s very coherent with the influences I had during my youth and young adulthood. 

I mean, when it comes to smaller scales, my choices in diecast models included products made by: Majorette, Greenlight, M2 Machines, Johnny Lightning, Norev, Muscle Machines, Road Champs, Revell, Racing Champions, Eligor, Jada, Motormax, Minichamps, Welly, Shelby Collectibles, 1 Badd Ride, CM’s Corporation, etc. 

In bigger scales, on the other hand, brands like: Del Prado, Universal Hobbies, Cararama, Autoart, Solido, Schuco, Vitesse, etc., offered products that became part of my collection and I came to know the most "popular" and lately overhyped brands: Hot Wheels and Matchbox, at a later stage... 

My guest for this review is a combination of my all time taste for cars and vehicles in general, with my taste for the Japanese culture; obviously, it’s not the kind of choice you would call "popular", specially in my homeland and that’s to be expected... 

The Tomica Line of diecast toy cars is a product of Takara Tomy, one of the few companies offering products in this segment in the country of the rising sun; most of the manufacturers of diecast models in Japan work with scale replicas for adult collectors, rather than with toy cars and their products are offered mostly in bigger scales, albeit some of these brands offer 1:64 scale models too. 

I’m talking about brands like: Kyosho, Ebbro, Spark, that still produce this kind items or Hobby Japan, a collectibles store that works mainly online, but started recently in this segment of diecast models; also about brands like: Aoshima, CM’s and Tamiya, that once offered diecast models but so far, that’s no longer the case, either because the companies went bankrupt or because currently work with other kind of products. 

Besides, I have to mention Japanese car manufacturers, that offer diecast scale models in their own dealership boutiques, like: Subaru, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota and Honda; models that are outsourced to diecast model manufacturers. 

Now, my first contact with Tomica was not even through its toy cars Line, but rather through its Premium Line, namely Tomica Limited Vintage / Neo, one of the several referents in this category of diecast models and actually not "the best of the best", as some so called "connoiseurs" claim, but one of the best; you can read about that excellent model here. 

By the collectibles developed for the Japanese market, you can say safely that its collectors community is more demanding in terms of quality, than in other regions of the world and that’s what you perceive looking at my guest: as adult collector, that’s the kind of philosophy I respect and follow in this guild. 

Despite the fact my guest is a toy car, with most of the limitations in terms of level of detail, realism, amount of parts, etc., you see a quality product that surpasses in several aspects similar items developed by the toy cars brands of Mattel. 

Since this is the only product belonging to the Mainline of Tomica, that’s part of my collection, I wanted it to be something relatively unusual and this Japanese brand is known mainly for toy cars representing vehicles popular in its local market, so let’s say that this iconic SUV is not the kind of car you will see there in a regular basis. 

It’s based on the 2010 - 2015 Jeep Wrangler (JK) Unlimited Sport 4-Door Hard Top SUV 4WD (Jeep Wrangler), a Compact Light Off-Road 4-Door Wagon SUV and I must say that is a very nice rendition of this model, even better, in a scale very close to 1:64; this is the debut of the model for 2015 and it was released along with a yellow version. 

I got it through the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer / private seller, pretty much 8 years ago and products by Tomica are impossible to acquire locally through regular channels of distribution. 

This is a release for the Japanese market, it came inside a clear plastic bag, which in turn came in the now standard white and red cardboard box, printed in full color outside and it’s covered by a cellophane wrap. 

There have been other versions: one in white as a Thrilling Montain Exclusive, one in orange as as part of a 4 cars Gift Set "Drive to the Mountains!", one in cyan blue, dark blue and white for a Firefighter Collection Set, one in olive green 75th Anniversary Dealer Edition and it was even released as patrol, one with Netherlands Police decoration and other as a Tomica Event Model Exclusive, featuring a plastic insert for the light bar. 

This Jeep offers diecast body and black plastic chassis, with a more than decent level of detail; the paint job was made in dark green with glossy finishing, a bit thick, but very well applied and complemented by details like the fender extensions painted in black with satin finishing, plus several tampos and/or decals for the front lights, Jeep logos in front and on the spare wheel cover, in silver and red tail lights, part of the roof received black paint with glossy finishing as well. 

There is a plastic insert for the removable hardtop, a very nice extra; the mold of the chassis included the side running boards, also the front and rear bumpers; it has clear windows and the interiors were worked in black, with a basic level of detail and good quality plastic, the rollbar is too thick, but being a toy car, it’s to be expected, although it’s not entirely excusable; the multipart wheels feature a very basic 8 Dots rims design in light gray, not so realistic, but not ugly either, styled plastic tires and it was made in Vietnam...
