EVA-02 Production Model (Metallic Paint Version) Action Figure - Neon Genesis Evangelion Collection Vol. 3 by YAMATO USA

Neon Genesis Evangelion, la arquetípica serie de anime, creada (escrita y dirigida) por Hideaki Anno, cambió dramáticamente la forma en que las series de animación japonesa fueron percibidas en todo el mundo... 

No estoy hablando únicamente del género de las series animé de mecas, sino del universo entero del animé... 

Y no fue la única... 

De hecho, el renombrado creador Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (autor de la Serie Mobile Suit Gundam), produjo otra revolucionaria serie en 1980, llamada Space Runaway Ideon, que es reconocida como una de las muchas influencias para el Evangelion de Hideaki... 

Las series de animé en Japón (como en el resto del mundo) fueron consideradas, por mucho tiempo, como creaciones audiovisuales dirigidas a la audiencia infantil y ese fue una especie paradigma inamovible para los creadores de animación... 

Bueno, eso no es un problema o una pena en sí mismo, porque la audiencia infantil tiene sus propios requerimientos y retos... 

Ahora entiendo, como diseñador profesional, que crear contenidos para niños es todo menos fácil y uno de los retos que estoy mencionando es precisamente, transformar conceptos, incluso ideas complejas, en algo simple: "que podría ser comprendido hasta por un niño"... 

Estas series de animé para niños se ven "simples" y ese es su propósito, pero no son simples o fáciles de producir, ese es el punto... 

También es la razón por la cual fui cautivado por muchas series de animé viejas, incluso vintage, en mi infancia... 

Pero ahora como adulto, las miro en una forma diferente y no son tan atractivas como lo fueron antes o el foco de interés en ellas, ha cambiado para mí... 

¡Crecemos, es un hecho!... 

Como adultos, nuestros gustos cambian y obviamente, crear contenidos para adultos es otra historia. 

Evangelion fue chocante para su generación (los 90s), porque escarbó, quizás demasiado, en las luchas psicológicas de los personajes involucrados, dejando el resto de las líneas narrativas (incluyendo la de la humanidad, que luego del cataclismo causado por el evento llamado "Segundo Impacto", lucha contra un ejército de poderosos y enigmáticos ángeles, que venían a juzgar al mundo), en un segundo lugar. 

Incluso el concepto meca (que fue controversial también), los desarrollos tecnológicos y los conflictos para lograr sus propios objetivos, entre las organizaciones secretas presentes en la serie y en las películas posteriores (GEHIRN, NERV, SEELE y después WILLE), fueron "parte del trasfondo" y no quiero decir que estos elementos no fueron necesarios o interesantes en sí mismos. 

En verdad, todos estos elementos considerados aparte, habrían hecho de Evangelion una serie de animé grandiosa, pero son los elementos psicológicos, filosóficos y religiosos, los que hicieron de esta, una serie de culto. 

Todo es simbólico en esta serie o nada lo es en absoluto, depende del punto de vista particular de cada uno e Hideaki hizo esto a propósito, porque él pensó que los fanáticos del animé necesitaban "volver a la realidad" y empezar a cuestionar lo que sucede a su alrededor.

De hecho, estoy más inclinado al lado de -todo es simbólico en esta serie- y compartiré mi punto de vista personal en reseñas futuras. 

Supongo que este es un cambio radical en mi "línea de publicaciones" últimamente, solo para que recuerden que en este blog, la variedad es crucial. 

Creo que paulatinamente, otra clase de coleccionables serán publicados aquí de nuevo, pero por ahora necesito concentrarme en mejorar mi "situación financiera", porque esta afición es todo menos barata (no solo las figuras de acción, estatuas, dioramas, figuras de colección, sino las réplicas a escala en diecast, pueden ser también realmente costosas, especialmente con mis "gustos específicos")... 

Obviamente, tengo una "vida normal", con deberes y responsabilidades que cumplir... ¡A veces no es fácil, créanme!... 

Hablando de "volver a la realidad" *suspiro*... 

Bueno, gracias al DIOS de la Biblia, soy capaz de traer este coleccionable vintage a mi blog, adquirido en 2007. 

No hay información acerca de su fecha de fabricación e hice una investigación intensiva, sin resultado, pero probablemente fue hecha antes del 2000. 

SEGA tenía una licencia oficial para producir merchandising de Evangelion, pero este fue hecho por YAMATO USA (de alguna manera relacionada con Yamato Japan, que ahora es Arcadia). 

Es una figura de acción de 7" con un nivel de articulación algo limitado (apenas 11 puntos), pero el nivel de detalle y acabados son bastante más que decentes, en especial para los estándares de esa época. 

Precisamente, la característica más sobresaliente en esta figura, es el trabajo de pintura con acabado metalizado (que tú puedes odiar o amar y nada en medio de eso), el cual encontré bastante llamativo. 

El EVA-02 está muy bien retratado (tal como se vió en la serie de TV original) e incluye como accesorios: un rifle positrónico (que viene con su propio brazo acoplable), una lanza, un hacha, un cuchillo y el plug de alimentación del EVA. 

Viene dentro de una tarjeta grande con burbuja transparente así que, la figura y accesorios son completamente visibles, sin abrirla...

Neon Genesis Evangelion, the archetypal anime series, created (written and directed) by Hideaki Anno, changed dramatically the way the japanese animation series were perceived around the world... 

I’m not talking about the mecha anime series genre only, but the whole universe of the anime... 

And it was not the only one... 

In fact, the renowed creator Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (author of the Mobile Suit Gundam Series), produced another revolutionary series in 1980, called Space Runaway Ideon, which is recognized as one of the several influences for the Evangelion of Hideaki... 

The anime series in Japan (as in the rest of the world) were considered, for a long time, as an audiovisual creation aimed for the child viewers and that was a sort of immovable paradigm for the animation creators... 

Well, that’s not a problem or a shame in itself, because the child audience has its own requirements and challenges... 

Now I understand, as professional designer, that creating contents for children is anything but easy and one of the challenges I’m mentioning is precisely, transforming concepts, even complex ideas, into something simple: "that could be understood even by a child"... 

These anime series for children look "simple" and that’s their purpose, but they are not simple or easy to produce, that’s the point... 

Also it’s the reason why I was captivated by many old, even vintage anime series, in my infancy... 

But now as adult, I watch them in a different way and they are not as appealing as they were before or the focus of interest in them, has changed for me... 

We grow, is a fact!... 

As adults, our tastes change and obviously, creating contents for adults is another story. 

Evangelion was shocking for its generation (the 90s), because it digged, maybe a bit too much, in the psychological struggels of the characters involved, leaving the rest of story lines (including that of the humanity, which after the cataclysm caused by the event called "Second Impact", fights againts an army of powerful and enigmatic angels, that came to judge the world), in a second place. 

Even the mecha concept (which was controversial as well), the technological developments and the conflicts to achieve their own goals, among the secret organizations present in the series and in the later movies (GEHIRN, NERV, SEELE and later WILLE), were "part of the background" and I don’t mean that those elements were not necessary or interesting in themselves. 

Indeed, all those elements considered apart, would have made of Evangelion a great anime series, but the psychological, philosophical and religious elements, are those which made this series a cult one. 

Everything is symbolic in this series or anything at all, it depends on the particular point of view of each one and Hideaki made it this way on purpose, because he thought that the anime fans needed to "come back to reality" and start to question what’s happening around them. 

In fact, I’m more inclined to the side of -everything is symbolic in this series- and I will share my personal point of view in future reviews. 

I guess this is a radical change in my "line of publications" lately, just for you to remember that in this blog, the variety is crucial. 

I think that gradually, other kind of collectibles will be published here again, but for now I need to focus into improve my "financial status", because this hobby is anything but cheap (not only the action figures, statues, dioramas, trading figures, but the diecast scale replicas, can be also really expensive, specially with my "specific tastes")... 

Obviously, I have my "normal life" with duties and responsibilities to perform... At times, is not easy, believe me!... 

Talking about "come back to reality" *sigh*... 

Well, thanks to the GOD of the Bible, I’m able to bring this vintage collectible to my blog, acquired back in 2007. 

There is no info about its manufacturing date and I made an intensive research, with no results, but probably it was made before 2000. 

SEGA had an official license to produce Evangelion merchandising, but this one was made by YAMATO USA (somehow related with Yamato Japan, which now is known as Arcadia). 

It’s a 7" action figure with a kinda limited level of articulation (barely 11 points), but the level of detail and finishes are quite more than decent, specially for the standards at that time. 

Precisely, the most outstanding feature in this figure, is the metallic finish paint job (which you can hate or love and nothing in the middle), that I found quite appealing. 

The EVA-02 is very well depicted (as seen in the original TV series) and includes as accessories: a positron rifle (which comes with its own attachable arm), a spear, an axe, a knife and the feeding plug of the EVA. 

It comes inside a big card with clear bubble so, the figure and accessories are fully visible without open it...
