ENGLISH The monikers are something absolutely curious, even fascinating...
They are the particular way to call something or someone that means something for someone (oh, I love the games with words!)...
These nicknames usually have a restricted "area" of meaning, namely, their meaning is understandable for a limited group of persons, with some kind of affinity.
They are interesting experiments of the language, where a word (that may already exist) is transformed in something else, with a meaning completely different to the original or even a word not yet existing, which is "created" to name something that impress your senses, for good or for bad...
Some people, at first sight, interpret them as something derogatory, offensive and that could be, precisely, their intention...
But sometimes, they are just a lovely and funny way to make this thing or person more "visible" for the rest of people.
You may wonder what all of this has to do with this post?...
Probably, more than you dare to think...
If I talk about the 1949 Ford Custom Club Coupe, most of people will not identify it, unless they do some research...
But if I mention the "Shoe Box", then many people would say: "oh, you mean the 1949 Ford Custom Club Coupe, right?"...
As weird as it sounds, sometimes the official name of something/someone doesn’t remain in the public memory, as much as its / his / her sobriquet.
To be honest, not the official name neither the byname of this car that I’m publishing, were meaningful for me, until I researched about the sense of the moniker.
Some explanations were so ridiculous that I was about to give up, but there was one that sounded pretty convincing for me.
This car marked the end of an automobile design era, where the abundance of curves, exaggerated trims (chromes), heavy, huge and lazy shapes, were the rule (a time for opulence, I think so), but the 1949 Ford Custom Club Coupe went in the other way, with flat panels (less rounded), minimal trims and a lighter, smaller, more agile and boxyish shape...
That’s why it was called simply: "Shoe Box".
This was a city car, a compact for the standards at that time, but surprisingly it became an archetypical Hot Rod and a great favorite among the customizers.
The official powertrains were the modest 226 CID, 3.7 L, L-head straight-6, rated at 90 hp and the 239 CID, 3.9 L, Flathead V8 rated at 100 hp, but you cannot imagine the wide variety of powerful engines that were fitted into this atypical car.
For an atypical car, nothing better than an atypical publication and this is something you will not see so often, here in my domains...
Yeah!... Is not one, or two or even three, neither four... I’m talking about six diecast acquired from three different friends / colleagues / providers and obviously, from different series, but is the same model.
This is a relatively recent casting by Hot Wheels, originally released in 2000 (the first from top to bottom, in the pictures) and designed by Gary Saffer.
It has a great resemblance with the actual car, despite its simplicity, but unlike the original referring, is depicted as a typical Hot Rod, with a Lowrider style, a huge engine that pops up from the hood, without the rear fender and with four exhausts... It looks killer, man!...
I liked the first one I got (precisely the First Editions), but I fell in love with it after I got the second one and then, love grew LOL!...
All the paint jobs and decors are charming and there is a bit of everything here: three of them have flames (that I love), four of them have chrome interiors (the rest are white); two of them have diecast body/chassis while the rest have diecast body with plastic chassis (2 black, 2 chrome); one of them has semi-matte finishing in the paint job, four of them belong to Adult lines (including the famous Hot Wheels 100% albeit it’s not a Premium mold, but a Regular one upgraded, three of them have Real Riders tires with Chrome Hub wheels) but the other two, belonging to old Regular lines, are collector items nowadays.
I would say that this is one of my favorites models, don’t you think so?... =DDDDD
Jam 5:5-8 "Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you. Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the LORD. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the LORD draweth nigh."
Looking at all of them, no doubt I prefer the pink one (or is it purple?) while my second choice will be the yellow one and third choice is the red one....
i was not pretty sure that you would like this model, but i’m glad that you liked... beign a Hot Rod, i could not be more pleased with them !!!... by the way, your first choice was indeed color lilac (light purple) LOL... =)

well, i wish it were a "sale 50% off" LOL, but NO, they were purchased at full price, from different providers at different times, it was a goal kinda hard to achieve !!! oh yeah, the first one (from top to bottom) is very, very appealing and quirky, but obviously for me, all of them are pretty cool, LOL !!!... =)

I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
