ENGLISH For reasons that are not completely clear, most of the "experts" in the sports cars segment are very critical about the specimens of this "breed" designed and manufactured in the United States. I think that behind the kinda ironic appreciations from these "connoiseurs" are a bunch of prejudices and biases, because for me, there is something sdubious in how they praise the extremely expensive european super sport cars, while despise the more affordable american counterparts.
Well, I’m not ignoring the prestige, quality and exclusivity of the models created by Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ferrari, McLaren and related brands, which is out of discussion.
However, there is a series of tremendous obstacles to get one of those european purebreds, which begin with the flamboyant prices and ends with a waiting list that, in most cases, is attached to some "social" requirements to meet for the candidates (specially in the case of Ferrari).
This makes virtually impossible for "mortals" like you and me, to buy such delicacies and leaves our wishes in the land of dreams...
In this sense, the american carmakers have their feet on the ground and offer a similar or even better performance, for a fraction of the price of their partners from Europe.
This is truly praiseworthy when you consider that names like Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, etc produce many types of cars, NOT ONLY sports cars; but much more, when you can get one of these monsters if you work hard for some years...
Doing the same, in order to buy for example: a Lambo, would take about two, three or more lifetimes for people like us...
Now, I guess it’s about time to explain what I mean with "kinda ironic appreciations"...
As you can see, I’m publishing a distinctive 1992 Dodge Viper RT/10, which is one of the most recognized american sports cars ever created...
But someone from a car magazine "suggested" that driving a Viper, is like playing ping pong with a baseball bat...
Is this sarcastic enough for you?...
Actually, I have a quite different point of view on this car and I will share a bit of my personal appreciations, as well as some details about its development and specifications in a future publication...
Not so long ago, I published a beautiful and very hard to find 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo from the 1990 Deluxe Collection Series 1000, made by Majorette and I mentioned another vintage adult line of diecast previously released by Matchbox...
Seriously, I didn’t expect to find something from that series, but guess what?...
I have the right contacts in the underworld, LOL! =PPPPP...
This is a sample from the Premiere Collection World Class Series 1 (the very first, yeah!) and now I have a clear idea about this line...
I must say that, for the standards in diecast matters at that time, the overall result is quite good!...
Beginning with the presentation and packaging, Matchbox was faithful to its purpose: entice more adult collectors...
It comes in a long and carefully designed card in full color, slightly thicker than the regular one and easily stands out from the rest on a shelf.
It includes pictures of details in the model and a brief description of the other cars available in the first three series of the line.
The model itself features diecast body with plastic chassis in black, the paint job in yellow is much better than in the Regular lines by Matchbox, the tampos add a lot of realism with the Viper logos, the front and tail lights, and the rear "Venom" plate, the gratings on the hood are a separate piece, the interiors are fairly detailed and received a nice touch of paint along with the windshield and the rear air inlets in the front fenders.
Being a toy car from a Adult line, it has rubber tires with nice tampos of Goodyear Eagle and sporty chrome rims that look fabulous, also as in the old good times, it includes a full color box to keep it safe...
As for me, the vintage diecast rule!...
Jon 1:13-16 "Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them. Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said: we beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee. So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging. Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows."
i can’t believe such level of detail !!!... nowadays it would be considered pretty normal, but in 1995 this should be the highest end in this scale (1:60)... time has passed, but many collector’s brands owe their existence to this line by Matchbox !!!... =D

I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
