ENGLISH The Hot Rod universe and much more the Custom Culture, could not be conceived without the huge influence of a living legend: mr. George Barris... There are still some people (increasingly less), who don’t have any idea about this human institution of the automotive world or his great legacy; which will survive him for a long, long time.
The single idea of such lack of general culture is not a crime in itself...
What is an outrage to the common sense is that, in such group are included some so called "customizers"...
Excuse me if I’m a tad radical on this topic, but any expert in Hot Rod / Customs matters would agree in the fact that, when you want to know the king of customs, most of the fingers (or all of them) will point at one person: George Barris.
He has a lot of customs to prove this point and he coined the terms "Kustom" and "Kustom Kulture" to name and distinguish his works from the rest...
How powerful way to make a name in this guild so competitive!...
I know it could be considered pretentious, but you must know Barris and his gorgeous works, in order to understand why he sets the highest standard and deserves the place of honor where he’s already.
He’s not only almost excessively talented modifying existing vehicles, NO!...
He’s also known by his outrageous and daring concept cars, created virtually from zero and used in movies and TV series equally.
Just for you to have an idea of how great is the legacy of this monster of kustoms, let me tell you that the 1966 Batmobile, the General Lee, the Starsky and Hutch Ford Torino or the Green Hornet car (the original version of the movie), are part of his experiments...
OH !!!... Just in case, this 1965 Surf Woody (Surf Hearse) is one of his outlandish concepts and believed it or not, it was built as a completely functional vehicle and was shown in the April 1965 issue of the HOT ROD Magazine (the actual picture was taken in the beach of Waikiki, Hawaii).
The chassis was made exclusively for this model, it featured fiberglass body, Astro wheels (dually in the rear end), the engine was a 289 cu in, Mustang Cobra V8, reinforced by a twin Paxton supercharger, built by Ansen Automotive from Los Angeles, California...
I mean, this car, despite its eccentric appearance, was made to run pretty fine!...
Johnny Lightning is well known by its quite realistic scale models, based on actual and licensed vehicles, mainly from the north american market...
However, it doesn’t mean that they don’t care about those bizarre models, created by the most reputed american customizers...
They do know how to make a tribute to these crazy ideas, with exquisite diecasts.
This ghoulish rod is a clear sample of what I’m saying, it came inside a big and thick card, printed in full color, like all the high-end lines of this brand; it boasts the extraordinary detail and accuracy made famous by JL.
It features diecast body and chassis, I love the paint job in purple polychrome, also the precious pad printing and the work on the awning, the interiors and the engine itself.
Something quite atypical about this model, is that it has thin rubber tires in front (like those used for the JL’s Funny Cars) and plastic wider tires on the back, all of them with multipart construction and unlike the actual car, it has exclusive fenders which look great.
Finally, this high quality replica includes a beautiful trading card with an original illustration, featuring that vintage touch which brings back good memories!...
Psa 20:6-8 "Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; HE will hear him from HIS holy heaven with the saving strength of HIS right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of the LORD our GOD. They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright."
George Barris must be thinking of horse carriage and automobile at the time of this creation. It's funny like and unique in its own way... like scooby doo be doo... Not sure if its the angle of shot by the tires seems tilted outwards...
actually an old carriage is the first thing that comes to my mind looking at this model... but Barris combined such concept with a hearse and added the Hot Rod feeling to the recipe, making it a creepy beast LOL... the wheels, yep, they look tilted and although the axle is not bent, the wheels themselves have a small clearance so, they can turn better... but since the diecast is heavy, it makes the wheels turn outwards... =)

From now, I will be publishing basically the same contents in both blogs, but for reviews before March 18, 2019, you must read my Blogger blog...
I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
