ENGLISH Being one of the world’s largest automakers, Ford Motor Company has a wide portfolio of solutions for transportation.
From the smallest city car to the largest extra heavy duty truck, Ford covers almost all segments known in the automotive industry and the experience achieved since 1903, makes it a solid and reliable player.
Very few automakers have such variety of vehicles in the market and this in itself is something admirable, because every single type of vehicle demands a costly and complicated development, that we hardly know the full degree.
One of those lines of products is precisely the heavy duty trucks, segment in which Ford has earned worldwide respect.
Although officially retired of this business for a while, Ford has serious plans to return with a full size cabover heavy duty truck, but I’m not gonna talk about the present or future of this Ford’s line, but about the past...
The L Series was an evolution of the shorter Ford N Series, which was produced from 1963 through 1969.
It had a longer life (1970-1998) and hence is fairly remembered, even by people not related with the trucks segment; unlike the N Series which hardly receive the credit of being the line that put Ford on the map of the medium/heavy duty trucks.
It’s worth mentioning that the L Series has sublines which include options like: short and long hood, cabover, single and tandem rear axle, also the Aeromax was the top of the line variant.
The 1982 Ford CL-9000 Cabover (COE) Tandem Axle Heavy Duty Truck is part of the most popular models created by this brand, it has a distinctive design where the front grille is the focus of attention, with its hexagonal shape that was used almost without changes in the cabover, short and long hood versions equally.
This is an icon of the 80’s visual culture and it had its 15 minutes (or much more) of fame, both in the TV series and in the movie world.
In that sense, I could mention the appearance of this model / line in: The Dukes of Hazzard, Riptide, B.J. and the Bear, L.A. Heat, Splash, The Blues Brothers and Smokey and the Bandit, inter alia.
This line had as well a wide variety of powertrains, identified by a 3 digit number in the case of the gas engines and by a 4 digit number in the case of the diesel engines...
When I began to appreciate the vintage models by Hot Wheels, one of my goals was to bring some old heavy duty trucks to my scale garage and I must say that the task was far from easy.
If the assortment of pickup trucks models made by HW is kinda short, the assortment of heavy duty trucks is even shorter and if you add the fact that these are highly sough by collectors, maybe you could have a close idea of what I mean.
It took me a long time to get the two models published today, each one from a different provider and none of them available in the local market.
This is a very old cast, designed by Larry Wood, released in 1983 and based on the 1982 Ford CL-9000 Heavy Duty Truck.
These are two of the four variants available of this mold (the others are the Ford Dump Truck and the Semi Fast II, where Phil Riehlman collaborated with the design of the rear engine), most of them made for Regular lines and the rest for Adult lines.
The older one is the Ford Stake Bed Truck, which came inside a classic blue card; it features diecast body with chrome plastic chassis, the red paint job with a simple decoration is very well made, the interiors are chrome while the smoked windshield makes a nice contrast; the plastic wheels are 7 Spoke type and the stake bed can be lifted.
On the other hand, the Rig Wrecker features diecast body with golden plastic chassis, the wrecker bed was made in diecast while the crane is plastic and fixed; the glossy black paint job along with the decor in white and golden make another winner combination and they were complemented by the plastic wheels type 3 Spoke stamped in golden, creating a very sporty look.
These models are simple but I cannot stop admiring them!...
2 Cor 4:3-6 "But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the Glorious Gospel of Christ, Who is the image of GOD, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but CHRIST JESUS the LORD; and ourselves your servants for JESUS' sake. For GOD, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the Glory of GOD in the face of JESUS CHRIST."
From cars to truck... Ford is strong... Do they build bike too? Looks like the red/yellow truck is for livestock. I like those drums below and by the sides... not sure be they are called drums... heehee...
HEHE... as far as i know, Ford doesn’t have bikes or motorbikes in its catalog... the "drums" are indeed side fuel tanks and yeah, they look nice and add realism to the model... also yeah, this stake bed trucks are used commonly to transport livestock and sometimes for containers... these vintage truck models by Hot Wheels are no longer available so, it was quite a ordeal to get them !!!... =)

My alternate blog in WordPress
From now, I will be publishing basically the same contents in both blogs, but for reviews before March 18, 2019, you must read my Blogger blog...
I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
