Looking at how much the Premium concept has been trivialized, distorted recently by brands like Hot Wheels and Matchbox, with their respective toy cars lines, the Mattel Creations platform and previous RLC / HWC platforms of Mattel, particularly since 5 years ago, makes me realize how easily convinced by fake sales pitches are people who pose as collectors, but only happen to be cheap mimickers, who have a weakness for buying overpriced stuff and bragging about it, as if that could be a point of pride...

It also makes me aware of the objectionable role that marketing, or should I say propaganda?, has on this matter, that upsets the perception of our hobby and clearly Mattel, as well as its brands, have been heavily focused on marketing from the get go...

In fact, this phenomenon of being easily convinced by a bunch of lies, is something you can witness in virtually all the spheres of human activity and it looks like people tends to be increasingly susceptible to these deceptions over time...

On the other hand, it makes me appreciate even more the efforts that other brands, more focused on offering high quality in their products, at a reasonable price, are doing to create true Premium items, as well as the "odd ball" that Hot Wheels threw back in 1996, starting with an assortment of 4-cars box-sets, that established the standard by which any true Premium item by Hot Wheels should be judged ever since...

A standard that "curiously" seems to be ignored by this peat of cheap mimickers I mentioned previously and discarded by brand promoters in their advertising blogs and video blogs too, because it would put in evidence the misleading marketing tactics of Mattel, but it’s NOT ignored by us, the collectors who know the blue brand of Mattel more in depth...

However, that standard for true Premium items, in the form of scale replicas of vehicles, because there are other kind of collectibles also worthy of being in the Premium category, wasn’t even established by Hot Wheels or Matchbox, rather other brands of diecast models, way more focused on the expectations of adult collectors, were responsible for this initiative; but one brand was specially influential in that sense, with a Line released for 1990 - 1991: Majorette.

I have been addressing different aspects of these topics in previous publications; for instance, regarding the history of the only Line that deserves to be considered Premium, when we are talking about Hot Wheels, you can read about that here and here, as well as the parameters by which any Premium diecast model should be judged, of which you can read here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here; there will be time, if GOD allows, to deepen a bit more on these interesting matters, but for now let’s focus on my guests for this review.

I got both items through the secondary market, as is to be expected with this kind of products in my homeland, with the help of two friends of mine, fellow collectors and importers / private sellers, pretty much 10 and 8 years ago respectively.

My first guest belongs to the 2004 Oil Can Muscle Car Series, part of the Hot Wheels 100% Line, which is in the Premium category, just for you to compare with the current fake "premium" releases of Lines like Car Culture or Series like Boulevard and the like: perhaps you will find "a few" differences, unless you’re blind, of course.

Now, some recent models developed for the RLC and HWC platforms, part of Mattel Creations, display characteristics that can be comparable, in certain cases, with those offered by the Hot Wheels 100% Line, including high level of detail and realism, opening features and better quality controls.

But due to their extravagant prices in the secondary or even primary markets, unjustifiable from the good value for money point of view, they are not a sensible choice for any serious adult collector, unless their prices drop to a reasonable point, which is very difficult to happen, thanks to hoarders, scalpers and clumsy buyers.

My second guest belongs to the 2012 GL Muscle (Shop Tool) Series, part of the products offered by GreenLight, a brand of diecast models with a very ambiguous profile, that sometimes offers Premium items, but most times its products are more properly cataloged within the Deluxe category, due mainly to the inconsistent, poor quality controls that GreenLight applies to them in a regular basis: this one can be considered a Premium item, by the way.

Both scale replicas are based on the 1971 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, a Midsize 2-Door 2+2 Fastback Coupe - Pony Car / Muscle Car, that was part of the second generation of the model, precisely by the time when the fake oil crisis of the 70s was hitting the hardest economy worldwide, fulfilling the main purpose for which its manufacturers created it in the first place.

Besides, both scale replicas feature a customized appearance, as well as a full diecast construction (body and chassis), with great level of detail, realism and quality; this publication is interesting because it allows to appreciate the differences in execution and approach between two products in the same category, but made by different brands.

The paint jobs have different approaches too, for the Hot Wheels 100% example, it features a realistic factory color: Sunflower Yellow with glossy finishing, the other version of this ’71 Camaro was made with a red paint job, similar to the Cranberry Red factory color and this model was introduced only for this Series, although an additional pair was made as a FAO Schwartz New York Store Exclusive.

For the GreenLight example it was used a custom cyan blue, with glossy finishing, fantastic selections in both cases, complemented by racing stripes in black and white respectively, with prolix stock decorations, made with several tampos and/or decals; in the model by Hot Wheels the chassis received black paint with satin finishing, while the chassis for the GreenLight model was left unpainted.

In both models virtually all the details included in the body and the chassis were sculpted on the molds, with the exception of the rear spoiler in the GreenLight example, that is a plastic insert; the Hot Wheels sample represents the split bumper version, while the GreenLight sample represents the standard / conventional bumper version.

I like very much the work on both scale replicas in general terms, but I really dislike that in the Hot Wheels model, the chassis didn’t cover completely the front, precisely where the V-shaped grille is located and it looks like an unfinished product, something that in a Premium item is unacceptable; nonetheless, in the latter the side rearview mirrors were molded along with the body and that’s an excellent touch, of which lacks the GreenLight model.

Both models have clear windows and fairly detailed interiors in black; another feature they share is the opening hood, the engine bay received better detailing in the Hot Wheels model, thanks to some parts with chrome finishing, which implies processes extra.

They offer multipart wheels, in the case of the Hot Wheels replica, it features Custom 5 Spokes Mag-Style Real Riders rims design, with chrome finishing, while in the case of the GreenLight replica, it features 5 Spokes Torq Thrust D rims design, in satin black with chrome lip and styled synthetic rubber tires in both cases.

These models offer extra goodies as part of the package: the Hot Wheels model includes a circular display base, with a mirror sticker on top, along with an oil-can-like cover, featuring a low profile wheel with 6 Spokes Sport rim design, which was the usual presentation for the first releases of this Series.

While the GreenLight model includes a trading card, printed in full color, featuring a picture of the actual car in which this model is based (with some differences), but also a car shop tool, in this case a "cute" welder; finally, these models were made in China...

Ezk 37:20-23 "And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes. And say unto them, Thus saith the LORD GOD; behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all: Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwelling places, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their GOD."

1974 Dodge Monaco 4-Door Sedan / Police Pursuit Car / Bluesmobile (Green Machine) - Full Size 4-Door Sedan / Saloon Police Car - Diecast Scale 1:65 plus 1977 Dodge Royal Monaco 4-Door Sedan / Police Pursuit Car - Full Size 4-Door Sedan / Saloon Police Car 2012 GreenLight Dioramas - The Blues Brothers Series Limited Edition Release 6 (2-Cars Boxset) Diecast Scale 1:65 by GreenLight

ENGLISH
In a recent publication, of which you can read here, I posed something about the works of fiction made for the cinema, TV and/or theater: reasonability, feasibility or credibility are NOT a must, I mean, sometimes not even what we could call properly a plot is neccesary and you may find many examples to prove this point...

In order to tell a story, you usually must resort to a plot, to devise the sequence of events in this story and make it understandable, "digestible" for the audience, or so they say, but this premise is not a straitjacket, particularly not for the industry of entertainment, which includes films, TV series, theater and news, among other media...

And you might ask, "wait, what?, you made a mistake, the list includes news?, how could it be?, it’s not the purpose of news to give you information, to keep you up with reality?"...

Well, if you have not figured out, at this point of the history of mankind, that news networks are just part of a well-oiled propaganda machinery, one of the most powerful tools of social engineering, established and financed to mislead, distract, manipulate, distort and entertain the public, then their mental conditioning is still working pretty fine on you...

You know, when entertainment is used as a means of control, making sense is not a requirement; speaking of which, there are movies that you don’t really understand how they even made it to theaters, let alone how they became somehow "cult films", unless, of course, you know their true purpose.

My guests for this publication were featured in The Blues Brothers, a film that is definitely the kind of fiction work I’m talking about and these "automotive stars" are based on the 1974 Dodge Monaco 4-Door Sedan / Police Pursuit Car / Bluesmobile, a Full Size 4-Door Sedan / Saloon Police Car and 1977 Dodge Royal Monaco 4-Door Sedan / Police Pursuit Car.

Music or to be precise, blues music in its very, very wide spectrum of expressions and rock, seem to be the conductive thread in this sort of tale, released in 1980, that’s why it’s classified as a musical and yeah, there are several great music performances which give to this product most of its appeal, to be honest, but to call it musical is at best an extrapolation.

And the movie has humor, comic and bizarre moments, which is understandable, since both protagonists: Jake Blues (John Belushi) and Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd) were comedians in the real life (Aykroyd is still comedian, but Belushi passed away in 1982, by the way), they also have a noticeable taste for music, rock and blues respectively.

They were even already known by "The Blues Brothers" in the show business, before making the movie, thanks largely to some of their gigs in a very popular TV show, but to call this film a comedy is also to stretch the genre definition a bit too much.

The Blues Brothers includes over-the-top chases (more like demolition derbies), an affair with a vengeful ex-girlfriend armed to the teeth, gratuitous violence, a series of crazy events creating the perception that the whole world ganged up against Jake and Elwood, to prevent them from raising funds for their orphanage...

All of that and a bit more was mixed in such an arbitrary way, that not even the people involved in this movie knew exactly what they were doing, as if it were just an improvised and whimsical idea, to which "unexpectedly" was given a monstrous budget to become true and part of this is true.

It’s not a secret that the production of this film was tortuous, to say the least, extremely expensive for the time, it was plagued with excesses on and off the set, including hard / illegal drugs consumption and somehow all this mess is reflected on the screen.

Common sense, logic or coherence are not precisely the pillars of The Blues Brothers and it shows, but it fits somehow the "canons" of entertainment, where everything, including a cinematic mess, is useful to prevent people from thinking too much about what’s happening around them, it worked in the 80s (as I mentioned here) and it continues to work nowadays...

Perhaps it’s time to make good use of critical thinking and stop consuming so much rubbish produced by the propaganda media...

This time I will make a break in the reviews about GreenLight, its history, background and impact in the diecast models segment, albeit if you want to remember or check what I have addressed so far about this topics, you can read here, here, here and here...

So today I will introduce briefly my guests, which I got in the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer / private seller, more than 9 years ago, by the time when I was starting to incorporate this brand to the list of my favorites.

It belongs to the 2012 GreenLight Dioramas - The Blues Brothers Series - Limited Edition, a 2-Cars Boxset that was the first product of this kind, made by GL in my collection; the Greenlight Dioramas Series was introduced originally in 2009 and it featured different kind of sets, sometimes with 2 diecast vehicles, sometimes 1 vehicle accompanied by mini figures (static) and/or other accessories, also different licensing, usually including something related with entertainment, Hollywood, like in this case.

These police cars scale replicas offer diecast body and chassis, with great level of detail, realism and quality, as it seems to be the case with most first releases between 2005 and 2012, unlike the most recent releases, that suffer noticeably in the quality control department.

While one of the models claims to be from 1977,  the same mold from ’74 was used, so there is an inconsistency in that sense, because the ’77 Royal Monaco has noticeable differences, particularly in the front, albeit in the film do appear patrols from ’74 and other years, then it’s not a big issue for me...

The paint jobs replicate incredibly well the color schemes of the actual vehicles, I love specially the outcome in the Bluesmobile, which features a quite realistic reproduction of its weathered and dusty appearance, in that sense, several tampos and/or decals helped to the fantastic overall effect and since the latter is a Green Machine (chase model by GreenLight), the rims and the chassis received special metallic green paint.

The models feature several plastic inserts for the front and tail lights, light bar in the patrol, front push bars, the megaphone and its stand in the Bluesmobile, which also received additional paint and/or tampos and/or decals.

Both have clear windows and fairly detailed interiors in black; the multipart wheels feature accurate Steelies rims design for both, in metallic green for the Bluesmobile and white for the patrol, the latter includes dog dish hubcaps in silver, styled synthetic rubber tires and these models were made in China...

Ezk 32:17-21 "It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying: Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit. Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised. They shall fall in the midst of them that are slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes. The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword."
