En publicaciones recientes mencioné que mi "etapa" como coleccionista de modelos en diecast empezó sólidamente con Muscle Cars, a pesar del hecho que no puedes ver autos de esta tipología muy a menudo en mi patria, pero los pocos que vi fueron suficientes para encender mi admiración por ellos... 

Incluí para esta reseña algunos ejemplos de los primeros modelos que conseguí para mi colección, todos ellos en el mercado secundario y unos pocos en una tienda local especializada en juguetes y coleccionables (fuera del negocio desde hace al menos 3 años, desafortunadamente), así que puedes ver que no estaba mintiendo... 

También mencioné previamente que Johnny Lightning fue clave en mi decisión de incluir esta clase de artículos en mi colección: Hot Wheels, Matchbox o incluso Majorette no podían hacer que eso sucediera, porque estas marcas ofrecen coches de juguete y siempre he preferido modelos / réplicas a escala. 

Desarrollé algo de aprecio por estas últimas marcas como coleccionista adulto más tarde, gradualmente y con reservas, debido a sus limitaciones en términos de realismo, nivel de detalle o proporciones, además obviamente, sus notables y frecuentes problemas de calidad (particularmente con las dos primeras marcas). 

Lo que no mencioné, es que GreenLight, M2 Machines y después Muscle Machines fueron también instrumentales en este cambio de opinión; probablemente su disponibilidad en unas pocas tiendas locales de juguetes y coleccionables fue muy importante en ese sentido porque, bueno, no es lo mismo ver un coleccionable en una foto por internet, que verlo en persona. 

Puesto que ya he hablado del GTO en publicaciones anteriores (de las cuales puedes leer buscando la etiqueta "Pontiac"), quería cambiar el enfoque para esta reseña a la marca en sí a la cual pertenecen mis invitados hoy, basados en el Pontiac GTO (The Judge) 400 Ram Air IV de 1970, un Coupé de Tamaño Intermedio 2 Puertas Techo Duro Semi-Fastback / Muscle Car. 

Puedes leer sobre el origen de GreenLight y cuando empecé a coleccionar artículos de esta marca aquí luego, esta vez profundizaré un poco en la evolución de esta marca y su producto, de acuerdo con mi experiencia de primera mano como coleccionista adulto y lo que he percibido en el mercado. 

GreenLight fue una de las marcas de modelos en diecast que surgió en la primera mitad del los 00s, cuando hubo un boom en este segmento y no cualquier boom: fue la época cuando varias marcas al mismo tiempo estaban apuntando al mercado de los coleccionistas adultos con productos más realistas, detallados, ofreciendo mejores acabados y a precios relativamente asequibles, siguiendo la, en ese momento, tibia recepción de modelos en diecast de la categoría Premium, durante su primer boom en la segunda mitad de los 90s. 

Fue una apuesta riesgosa, porque aunque el mercado de los coleccionistas adultos ya estaba preparado para esta clase de productos, que se convertirían en el núcleo de la categoría De Lujo, los compradores apenas estaban conscientes de la existencia de estos coleccionables y para bien o para mal, los compradores crean la inercia necesaria en términos de ventas / compras, porque son la mayoría en este gremio del coleccionismo: irónicamente nosotros, los coleccionistas, somos minoría. 

Con el tiempo, este esfuerzo valió la pena, si bien varias marcas ofreciendo productos en la categoría De Lujo salieron del negocio, como: Badd Ride 1, Revell o Muscle Machines, por diferentes motivos, otras sobrevivieron y hoy en día estas son marcas fuertes; de hecho, Muscle Machines fue rediseñada y reapareció como M2 Machines. 

La calidad, realismo y nivel de detalle general en productos de GreenLight de las primeras Series lanzadas desde 2005 eran consistentemente buenos, pero la variedad de modelos no era tan amplia. 

Es bastante comprensible, los costos involucrados en licenciamiento y desarrollo de moldes pueden ser muy altos, especialmente con producción en bajas cantidades y normalmente no tienes un presupuesto ilimitado cuando estás empezando. 

Ahora, antes de 2005 y más precisamente desde 2003, GreenLight comercializó vehículos para pesca de lubina / róbalo, carros de carreras Indy (con una presentación similar a la usada por Action Racing Collectables: clamshell resellable, no usada después de 2005) y una línea llamada City Wheels, desarrollada en asocio con MotorMax, la cual proveyó los moldes, introduciendo cuatro modelos: una Ford Expedition de 1997 con decoración NYPD (Departamento de Policía de Nueva York, por sus siglas en inglés), una Lincoln Navigator de 1998 (versión de serie), un Mini Cooper de 2001 con decoración de taxi y un Chevrolet Corvette Convertible de 1998... 

Habrá más información en publicaciones futuras sobre GreenLight y su desempeño en el segmento de modelos en diecast para coleccionistas adultos, en la categoría De Lujo así que, como es habitual, ahora vamos a enfocarnos en mis invitados... 

Conseguí ambos modelos en el mercado secundario, con la ayuda de dos amigos míos, colegas coleccionistas e importadores, ambos más o menos hace 8 años; la primera muestra pertenece a la Serie Muscle Car Garage - MCG Stock & Custom Lanzamiento 10 de 2009, mientras que la segunda pertenece a la Serie Hollywood - Two-Lane Blacktop Lanzamiento 3 de 2012 y es un Green Machine, a saber, un Modelo Chase de GreenLight. 

Explicaré también en el futuro las características de estos Modelos Chases particulares, pero puedo decirte que el que presento aquí fue el primero que conseguí de esta marca y si bien fue adquirido en el mercado secundario, pagué exactamente lo mismo que lo que pagas por un modelo regular. 

Ambos ofrecen carrocería y chasis en diecast, excelente nivel de detalle a todo alrededor, también, ambos presentan un trabajo de pintura en amarillo pero en diferentes tonos (el Green Machine es más rojizo), complementado por prácticamente la misma decoración, hecha con tampos y/o calcomanías, sobre prácticamente todos los paneles de la carrocería, excepto por la insignia "The Judge" en la primera muestra. 

Precisamente esta primera muestra tiene un problema con el ensamblaje de las ruedas, ya que la postura es más baja a la izquierda; me molesta y no es inusual con esta marca, pero el resto del modelo está bastante bien así que es de alguna forma soportable. 

Ambos modelos incluyen un inserto plástico para el deflector trasero, apertura de capó con bahía de motor detallada, ventanas transparentes, pero los interiores fueron trabajados en blanco y negro respectivamente; las ruedas multiparte presentan diseño de rimes Cragar 510C Magnum 5 Slots en cromado con acentos negros para la primera muestra, diseño de rimes Cragar SS Super Sport 61 Series 5 Spokes con acabado en verde metalizado para la segunda muestra, llantas anchas en caucho labradas y fueron hechos en China...

In recent publications I mentioned that my "stage" as collector of diecast models started solidly with Muscle Cars, despite the fact that you can’t see this typology of cars in my homeland so often, but the few I saw were enough to ignite the admiration for them... 

I included for this review some examples of the first models I got for my collection, all of them in the secondary market and a few in a local specialized toys and collectibles store (out of business since at least 3 years ago, unfortunately), so you can see I wasn’t lying... 

I also mentioned previously that Johnny Lightning was key in my decision to include this kind of items in my collection: Hot Wheels, Matchbox or even Majorette could not make that happen, because these brands offer toy cars and I have always preferred scale models / replicas. 

I developed some appreciation by the latter brands as adult collector later, gradually and with reservations, due to their limitations in terms of realism, level of detail or proportions, besides obviously, their noticeable and frequent quality issues (particularly with the first two brands). 

What I did not mention, is that GreenLight, M2 Machines and later Muscle Machines were also instrumental in this change of mind; probably their availability in a few local toys and collectibles stores was very important in that sense because, well, it’s not the same to see a collectible in a picture on internet, that to see it in the flesh. 

Since I have already spoken about the GTO in previous publications (of which you can read searching the "Pontiac" tag), I wanted to change the focus for this review to the brand itself to which belong my guests today, based on the 1970 Pontiac GTO (The Judge) 400 Ram Air IV, an Intermediate 2-Door Hardtop Semi-Fastback Coupe / Muscle Car. 

You can read about the origin of GreenLight and when I started collecting items by this brand here so, this time I will delve a little in the evolution of the brand and its product, according to my first hand experience as adult collector and what I have perceived in the market. 

GreenLight was one of the diecast models brands that emerged in the first half of the 00s, when there was a boom in this segment and not any boom: it was the time when several brands at the same time were pointing at the adult collectors market with products more realistic, detailed, offering better finishes and at relatively affordable prices, following the, at that moment, lukewarm reception of diecast models of the Premium category, during its first boom in the second half of the 90s. 

It was a risky bet, because albeit the collectors market was ready for this kind of products, that would become the core of the Deluxe category, buyers were barely aware of the existence of these collectibles and for better or worse, buyers create the necessary inertia in terms of sales / purchases, because they are the majority in this guild of collectionism: ironically we, the collectors, are minority. 

Over time, this effort paid off, while several brands offering products in the Deluxe category went out of business, like: Badd Ride 1, Revell or Muscle Machines, for different reasons, others survived and nowadays these are strong brands; in fact, Muscle Machines was re-engineered and reappeared as M2 Machines. 

The overall quality, realism and level of detail in products by GreenLight from the first Series released since 2005 were consistently good, but the variety of models was not so ample. 

It’s pretty understandable, the costs involved in licensing and development of castings can be very high, specially with low quantities production and you don’t have unlimited budget when you’re starting. 

Now, before 2005 and more precisely since 2003, GreenLight marketed bass fishing vehicles, Indy race cars (with a similar presentation to that used by Action Racing Collectables: reseleable clamshell, not used after 2005) and a line called City Wheels, developed in association with MotorMax, which provided the castings, introducing four models: a 1997 Ford Expedition with NYPD decoration, a 1998 Lincoln Navigator (stock version), a 2001 Mini Cooper with taxi decoration and a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible... 

There will be more information in future publications about Greenlight and its performance in the segment of diecast models for adult collectors, in the Deluxe category so, as usual, now let’s focus on my guests... 

I got both models in the secondary market, with the help of two friends, fellow collectors and importers, both pretty much 8 years ago; the first sample belongs to the 2009 Muscle Car Garage - MCG Stock & Custom Series Release 10, while the second belongs to the 2012 Hollywood - Two-Lane Blacktop Series Release 3 and it’s a Green Machine, namely, a Chase Model by GreenLight. 

I will explain as well in the future the features of these particular Chase Models, but I can tell you that the one featured here is the first I ever got by this brand and while it was acquired in the secondary market, I paid exactly the same than what you pay for a regular model. 

Both offer diecast body and chassis, excellent level of detail all around, also, both feature a yellow paint job but in different shades (the Green Machine is more reddish), complemented by virtually the same decoration, made with tampos and/or decals, on virtually all the panels of the body, except by "The Judge" insignia in the first sample. 

Precisely this first sample has an issue with the wheels assembling, since the stance is lower at the left; it bothers me and it’s not unusual with this brand, but the rest of the model is pretty fine so it’s somehow bearable. 

Both models include a plastic insert for the rear spoiler, opening hood with detailed engine bay, clear windows, but the interiors were worked in white and black respectively; the multipart wheels feature Cragar 510C Magnum 5 Slots rims design in chrome with black accents for the first sample, Cragar SS Super Sport 61 Series 5 Spokes rims design with metallic green finishing for the second sample, wide styled rubber tires and they were made in China...
