2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe V8 American Specs - Compact 2-Door / 2 Seater Fastback Coupe Sports Car / Grand Tourer - 2016 MBX Adventure City Series MB975 Diecast Scale 1:63 by Matchbox

I guess that being under the shadow of the stunning Jaguar E-Type must be something quite challenging, even for a "spiritual successor", but the world must go on, companies must go on and Jaguar, a car maker that started developing sidecars for motorcycles in 1922, was no exception to this rule...

Jaguar Cars, as it was formerly known, because since 2013 it changed to Jaguar Land Rover, after it was acquired from its previous owner Ford Motor Company by the Indian multinational Tata Motors, could not continue indefinitely in the market, thinking that the success of its most emblematic model would last forever...

And it’s not that the E-Type were the only gem in the crown of Jaguar, NO, the car brand has also in its hall of fame: the 1951 - 1953 C-Type, its successor the 1954 - 1957 D-Type and the XKSS (street legal version of the D-Type), the 1948 - 1954 XK120 or the 1959 - 1967 Mark II, just to mention some old school members.

But the E-Type, also known as XK-E in the North American market and produced between 1961 and 1975, was and is even nowadays a symbol of the brand of the pouncing feline, because the model was immensely popular among celebrities and it was the dream of many mere mortal without the means to buy a car like that.

It’s not wonder, the car offered an unparalelled performance as sports car, thanks to a family of experimental engines (identified as X), that had several improvements during its development, starting the series with the A version and reaching its peak with the K version: the E-Type was powered initially by a 3.8 L, Inline 6 Jaguar XK6 engine.

Nonetheless, what made the E-Type iconic was its extremely sexy body design and this blend of styling and performance is what my guest for this publication tried to replicate: the 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe V8 American Specs, a Compact 2-Door / 2 Seater Fastback Coupe Sports Car / Grand Tourer.

My guest had some very big shoes to fill, that’s for sure, so much that it’s a mission that actually cannot be accomplished, because examining this matter from a historical context, as it should be, the F-Type is not nearly as outstanding as the E-Type was.

Yet, in terms of styling and up to a point in terms of performance, the F-Type is a more than worthy successor or more properly, as it was designated, a "spiritual successor" of the E-Type, because it’s sexy, neat, aggressive, fast and a great car as a whole, that brought back some of the "swag" of its predecessor...

It’s not ironic that only until you are no longer interested in toy cars made by Matchbox, particularly the more recent offers, somehow Mattel and its distributors decided to "normalize" distribution in your homeland, after years and years of an appalling availability of its products in the primary market?...

Well, that’s precisely what has been happening since the middle of the last year, at least here in Colombia, South America, where I live, there are even several distributors bringing a decent amount of models to their toys aisles.

To add to the irony, in the place of origin of Matchbox, namely United Kingdom (UK), the distribution seems to remain as appalling as it has been since at least 10 years ago, if not even worse, with just one or two distributors (the Asda and Tesco chain stores, as far as I know) and a very irregular availability of several lines or batches that never arrive on top of that...

Whether Mattel wants to kill Matchbox as brand, also Hot Wheels, in the UK and the rest of Europe or not, its lack of care about distribution of these products, added to the really bad decisions of local large distributors, are digging the grave for these brands of toy cars in several regions around the world and this will grow like a snowball rolling down a hillside.

Even worse, since many collectors, including me, have decided to stop letting toy car brands to "play" with us, well, we stopped buying MBX and HW products or even we stopped searching for them, so we don’t care anymore if these problems are solved or not.

But those who are still interested in these brands will be frustrated time and time again, until they also stop giving a damn and at that moment, it will be too late for Mattel and its distributors if they want to correct the situation...

I got my guest for this review through the primary market, in a local retail store, pretty much 5 years ago, when the distribution was still very bad and I must confess that despite being a toy car, with all the limitations inherent to its nature, I really like the work made on this F-Type.

This is the debut of the model, belonging to the 2016 MBX Adventure City Series; it has had at least 5 iterations, all for the Mainline (Regular category); it has diecast body and black plastic chassis, with a barely decent diecast / plastic proportion (thanks to the plastic roof), but a more than decent level of detail.

The paint job was made in black with glossy finishing, complemented by tampos and/or decals for details on the front (grille emblem, headlights, air intakes on the hood), faux air intakes on the front fenders, tail lights and rear emblems, minimal but very well placed; I added silver touches of paint on the side rearview mirrors and the exhaust tips.

The windows are only slightly smoked and that doesn’t work too well for this model, specially without a tampo for the roof (something that was common before for the Mainline of this brand), so in this case a darker shade would be much better, the plastic wheels feature Split 10 Spoke rims design in chrome and it was made in Thailand...

Ezk 30:13-19 "Thus saith the LORD GOD; I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause their images to cease out of Noph; and there shall be no more a prince of the land of Egypt: and I will put a fear in the land of Egypt. And I will make Pathros desolate, and will set fire in Zoan, and will execute judgments in No. And I will pour my fury upon Sin, the strength of Egypt; and I will cut off the multitude of No. And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be rent asunder, and Noph shall have distresses daily. The young men of Aven and of Pi-beseth shall fall by the sword: and these cities shall go into captivity. At Tehaphnehes also the day shall be darkened, when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt: and the pomp of her strength shall cease in her: as for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity. Thus will I execute judgments in Egypt: and they shall know that I am the LORD."

2015 Jaguar F-Type Project 7 SVO - Grand Tourer Roadster American Specs (’15 Jaguar F-Type Project 7) 2014 HW Race - Track Aces Series 185/250 Diecast Scale 1:68 by Hot Wheels

Until now, I have not seen a single company involved in the manufacturing of passengers cars, that can claim to be in the imaginary of the average car lover or that has written its name in history, without being involved in racing...

In general terms, we could dare to say that the presence (official or unofficial) of an automaker in the car racing, was a sure signal of respect among the car enthusiasts and a passport to popularity among the ordinary car buyers.

The publicity that really worked in the dawn of automotive industry and even nowadays is the most powerful tool for the brand awareness in any segment, is the "word of mouth" and that’s how some car models and the brands these represented, became the top of mind.

Such word of mouth was stimulated by the car racing, but we can’t deny that there was a love-hate relationship between the automotive industry and the races, because of the clandestine halo of the latter.

Once the unofficial car racing "evolved" to official motorsports (the difference between these terms is so "subtle", that is misleading), carmakers had a clear path to take advantage of their relationship with races, previously frowned upon.

Yet, some automobile races had a special status, these were crucial for the transformation of car racing into motorsports (or the transformation of an illegal activity into a legal business; one would ask if it’s just a matter of create some rules and generate a "decent" profit for those interested, no?...) and one of them is the 24 hours of Le Mans.

This is the kind of race that separates a car or a brand (carmaker) from the rest, creating long-lasting legends and something that must be recognized about Le Mans, is its clear focus on endurance, more than just on speed, as other races do.

A car that is not only fast, but reliable in the long term, even if it’s subjected to the harshest conditions, is something worthy of being admired and remembered; very few car brands have been on its podium and one of them is the one featured in this publication.

Jaguar Cars, a brand that is owned currently by the indian conglomerate Tata Motors, has something to boast with seven victories in this tough competition (four in a row) and that was the excuse behind the creation of the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Project 7 SVO - Grand Tourer Roadster.

The F-Type concept has been around since 2000, when the first prototype was shown in the Detroit Auto Show of that year; the "successor" of the E-Type, was planned to be a compact roadster, in the same league of the Porsche Boxter; however, the project was eventually filed, because Jaguar was facing budgetary problems.

But such project was revived, largely because the "new administration" (Tata Motors) wanted a great 2-seater sports car in the portfolio of the brand of the leaping cat and the financial issues finally were adjured.

The F-Type was in fact taken a step further, creating a full size roadster sports car, that is not only the spiritual inheritor of the E-Type, but it also pays a nice tribute to the mythical D-Type.

The Project 7 has been praised rightly so by its exquisite and sensous design, where Ian Callum, Director of Design in Jaguar Cars, put his art and the people at the SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) Division of Jaguar Land Rover (the equivalent of AMG, SRT, SVT, RST, etc) put their efforts, to make this car a reminder of the reputation of Jaguar in the race tracks.

Inside the hood of this terrific iron, is a 305 cu in, 5.0 L, V8 supercharged engine, rated at 567 hp, coupled to a 8-speed automatic transmission, whose 0-100 km/h time is barely 3.8 seconds and with a very limited production of just 250 units (already sold-out), it’s the ultimate Jaguar!...

Early this year, I realized that the price of the diecast made by Mattel (Hot Wheels and Matchbox) in the local retail stores, changed...

To be precise, the price rose 10%, regarding the previous cost (you can see examples of this situation in stores in my homeland, Colombia, like Éxito and Pepe Ganga); but curiously, in other stores of this kind (like Cencosud’s Jumbo and Metro), the price remained the same and some series were even more than 50% off!...

It’s very likely that in the second quarter of this year, the price of the Hot Wheels and Matchbox models (followed by other diecast brands) will be increased everywhere and I don’t think it’s a fair move...

There is an additional irregularity with the Éxito retail stores, since the prices of Hot Wheels diecast are slightly different, depending on where the store is located (!?)...

On the other hand, the availability of Matchbox diecast is the worst I have seen in years, in the vast majority of chain stores in my hometown; which makes me suspect of an underground action of the Mafia of the Hot Wheels (that has been making the rounds in my country for several years), added to the shameful ignorance of many purchase managers on these matters; since technically, there is no reason to do away with the Matchbox stock, to favor the Hot Wheels stock, when both brands belong to the same owner / supplier: Mattel...

Now, I’m aware that everything increases its price over time, but my concern on this matter is, if this increase is justified or not and I must say that, in the case of diecast made by Hot Wheels, the answer is NO.

Don’t get me wrong, there are samples of great diecast models in the recent offer of HW, but that’s the exception, not the rule and most of the portfolio of this brand, lacks of an averagely decent quality control (not to mention the abundance of awful models and the excessive use of plastic); so indeed, you’re paying more for less.

I will deepen more on this topic in future publications, because I’m convinced that seasoned collectors (like the undersigned =P), are responsible for point out the flaws in this industry, in the distributors, in this guild and veto, if needed, their malpractices, in order to create a good "ecosystem" for the collectionism.

By now, I will say that the model featured in this review, is part of the recent offer of Hot Wheels, I got it some months ago, through a retail store, when the price had not been increased and after a careful selection among many with errors here and there.

Obviously, it’s part of the "exceptions" that I already mentioned, a well executed model; there is no clue about the designer involved in its creation and it has had 2 iterations (variations), since its release in 2015.

It belongs to the HW Race - Track Aces Series, part of the Mainline; it has diecast body and black plastic chassis; the paint job was made in dark green (british racing green), complemented by a delicate and accurate decoration with tampos in white, black and silver, that is faithful regarding the actual car (I made a simple but effective touch up for the tail lights).

The interiors are black, with an average level of detail, the windshield is smoked, while the plastic wheels featuring Y5 Spoke rims design, with glossy black finishing, couldn’t be a better selection, it’s like these had been made specifically for this model, because these replicate very well the original design and the model was made in Malaysia...

Luk 12:16-21 "And Jesus Christ spake a parable unto them, saying: the ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he thought within himself, saying: what shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said: this will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul: soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But GOD said unto him: thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward GOD."

I like to see how the hardcore fanatics or the conceited owners of a Ferrari, flaunt about a car that is supposedly the supreme pillar of the automobile’s universe...

But not for the reasons you might think, NO, rather because the braggarts will always face the ridicule, when someone or something puts them in place and because the history has proven that actually there are several cars which are more exquisite, more exclusive and have defeated or surpassed the Ferraris in their own territories, more than once, without fuss...

Probably due to the foregoing, you will conclude that I’m someone who plainly disown the merits that a Ferrari has, but by contrast, I think that this brand develops and produces extraordinary cars, which indulging your senses...

My problem is with the prepotent people around the Ferraris who, I guess, try to emulate the arrogance of the creator of this brand: Enzo Anselmo Ferrari, like it were something worthy of admiration...

Maybe because they want to generate an aura of greatness around them and is pathetic when the only thing you have to show your "greatness", is an expensive car...

Since the 1948 Ferrari 166 S gave visibility to this brand, in different competitions worldwide, the Ferrari Scuderia was one of the rivals to beat and for 1954, it had earned the respect of its contenders, for instance, in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

However, it was not alone, given that there were other illustrious examples of racing cars, like the Triumph TR2, the Cunningham C4-R, the Porsche 550, the Gordini T15, the Frazer Nash, the Bristol 450 or the Monopole X84, which had serious chances to win in this demanding competition...

You can notice that the United Kingdom was very well represented in the racing world, with several recognized brands and there was one particular car that, despite finished second in the 1954 24 Hours of Le Mans, behind the Ferrari 375 Plus, showed its stunning superiority over the model of the cavallino rampante...

At this point, you might guess that the car Ii’m mentioning is the one I’m publishing today and yeah, you got it, is precisely the 1954 Jaguar D-Type Short Nose 2-Doors Roadster Racing Car...

I have the feeling that the british carmakers, don’t waste time bragging or being stupidly conceited; they are more focused into produce wonderful vehicles and the D-Type is definitely a proof of this affirmation.

According to its creators, this car was made specifically to win the 1954 Le Mans competition; no doubt, Jaguar was ambitious, but they knew that they had what it takes to be in the podium.

This car was made to race from factory and is one of the most outstanding blends between efficient engineering and magnificent design; actually it’s as fast as it looks!...

Malcolm Sayer was the responsible for the D-Type’s body design, which was tested in wind tunnel, displaying an extreme effectiveness; it featured a monocoque construction that allows greater structural rigidity with less weight.

The 210 cu in, 3.4 L, Inline 6 (XK-6) Petrol engine, rated at 250 hp, with 3 DCO3 45 mm Weber carburetors and coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission, perhaps was not the most powerful compared with their contenders; but combined with the rest of elements, the performance of this car was overwhelming...

After a serious issue with the fuel filters, that almost ruined the debut of the Jaguar D-Type, these cars had a tremendous recuperation; it’s more than likely that with a bit more time, they had been the winners, hands down...  In fact, the following three years (1955-1957) they were unrivaled and carried all the victories, exceeding the expectations of their creators...

While the top speed in the Mulsanne Straight of the Ferrari 375 Plus, with a 4.9 L engine was 160.1 mph, the Jaguar D-Type, with a 3.4 L engine made 172.8 mph; these figures, in a racing car, make a "universe" of difference so, don’t blame for embarrassing to Ferrari =PPPPP...

Don’t you think that a purebreed like this, with a total production of barely 4 units for the 1954 24 Hours of Le Mans, deserves a place in any collection?...

Because I do and thanks to the help of a friend of mine and fellow collector, I got a pair, but I had to wait in order to get them...

This cast was created in 1998, released for the regular lines and its production was suspended in 2004 for unknown reasons; it was a work by Mark Jones and this is the fifth model of this designer, published in my blog.

There are four things I love most in this mold: the great level of detail, the excellent proportion (albeit is NOT 1:64 scale, but 1:56), the full diecast construction (body and chassis) and the plastic inserts for the head lights; this is one of those models that makes Hot Wheels worthy and lately you can’t say such thing so often.

The first version I got, belongs to the First Editions Series, part of the Mainline and one of the three variations made for that year (the best in my opinion); the paint job was made in dark blue with Metalflake finishing, which emulates one of the official colors for the D-Type and complemented by a pair of circular emblems with the number 4, a pair of stripes on the front and a Hot Wheels logo on the trunk; the wraparound window is clear, the interiors and the exhaust in the right side are silver, the plastic wheels have the Wire Spoke Lace Wheels design in chrome for the rims and it was made in Malaysia.

The second version I got (several months later), belongs to the Bruce Wayne Collection Series, part of the Adult lines, with a limited production of 10,000 units worldwide; a classic and very appropriate british green paint job with Metalflake finishing was chosen for this version, along with four circular emblems displaying the number 7, also tampos extra for the tail lights and the front air intake; the wraparound window is clear, the interiors are dark beige while the exhaust in the right side was painted in silver, the wheels are multipart featuring the Preferred Series design in chrome for the rims, Real Riders styled rubber tires and it was made in China...

Eph 4:17-19 "This I say therefore, and testify in the LORD, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of GOD through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness."
