Supongo que estar bajo la sombra del despampanante Jaguar E-Type debe ser algo bastante desafiante, incluso para un "sucesor espiritual", pero el mundo debe continuar, las compañías deben continuar y Jaguar, un fabricante de autos que empezó desarrollando sidecars para motocicletas en 1922, no era la excepción a esta regla...
Jaguar Cars, como se conocía anteriormente, porque desde 2013 cambió a Jaguar Land Rover, después que fue adquirida de su anterior dueño Ford Motor Company por la multinacional india Tata Motors, no podía continuar indefinidamente en el mercado, pensando que el éxito de su modelo más emblemático duraría para siempre...
Y no es que el E-Type fuera la unica joya en la corona de Jaguar, NO, la marca de coches tenía también en su salón de la fama: el C-Type de 1951 - 1953, su sucesor el D-Type de 1954 - 1957 y el XKSS (la versión legal para la calle del D-Type), el XK120 de 1948 - 1954 o el Mark II de 1959 - 1967, solo para mencionar algunos miembros de la vieja escuela.
Pero el E-Type, conocido también como XK-E en el mercado norteamericano y producido entre 1961 y 1975, era y es aún hoy en día un símbolo de la marca del felino abalanzándose, porque el modelo fue inmensamente popular entre las celebridades y fue el sueño de muchos meros mortales sin los medios para comprar un carro como ese.
No es de exatrañar, el auto ofrecía un desempeño sin paralelo como coche deportivo, gracias a una familia de motores experimentales (identificada como X), que tuvo varias mejoras durante su desarrollo, empezando la serie con la versión A y alcanzado su cima con la versión K: el E-Type fue potenciado inicialmente por un motor de 3.8 L, 6 Cilíndros en Línea Jaguar XK6.
No obstante, lo que hizo icónico al E-Type fue el diseño de carrocería extremadamente sensual y esta mezcla de estilo y rendimiento es lo que mi invitado para esta publicación trató de replicar: el Jaguar F-Type R Coupé V8 de 2015 Especificaciones Americanas, un Coupé Fastback Compacto 2 Puertas / 2 Plazas Auto Deportivo / Gran Turismo.
Mi invitado tenía unos zapatos muy grandes que llenar, eso es seguro, tanto que en realidad es una misión que no puede ser cumplida, porque examinando este asunto desde el contexto histórico, como debe ser, el F-Type no es ni de cerca tan descollante como lo fue el E-Type.
Con todo, en términos de diseño y hasta cierto punto en términos de desempeño, el F-Type es un sucesor más que digno o más propiamente, como fue designado, un "sucesor espiritual" del E-Type, porque es sexi, pulcro, agresivo, veloz y un carro grandioso en conjunto, que trajo de regreso algo de la "onda" de su predecesor...
¿No es irónico que solo hasta que ya no estás interesado en los autos de juguete hechos por Matchbox, particularmente las ofertas más recientes, de alguna manera Mattel y sus distribuidores decidieron "normalizar" la distribución en tu patria, después de años y años de una pésima disponibilidad de sus productos en el mercado primario?...
Bueno, eso es precisamente lo que ha estado sucediendo desde mediados del año pasado, al menos aquí en Colombia, Suramérica, donde vivo, incluso hay varios distribuidores trayendo una cantidad decente de modelos para sus pasillos de juguetes.
Para agregar a la ironía, en el lugar de origen de Matchbox, a saber Reino Unido (RU), la distribución parece permanecer tan pésima como ha estado desde hace al menos 10 años, sino es que peor, con solo uno o dos distribuidores (las cadenas de tiendas Asda y Tesco, hasta donde sé) y una disponibilidad muy irregular de varias líneas y lotes que nunca arriban encima de eso...
Ya sea que Mattel quiera matar a Matchbox como marca, también a Hot Wheels, en RU y en el resto de Europa o no, su falta de cuidado sobre la distribución de estos productos, sumado a las decisiones realmente malas de grandes distribuidores locales, están cavando la tumba para estas marcas de coches de juguete en varias regiones alrededor del mundo y esto crecerá como una bola de nieve rodando por una ladera.
Aún peor, ya que muchos coleccionistas, incluyéndome, hemos decidido dejar de permitir que las marcas de carros de juguete "jueguen" con nosotros, bueno, dejamos de comprar productos de MBX y HW o incluso dejamos de buscarlos, así que ya no nos importa si estos problemas se solucionan o no.
Pero aquellos que aún están interesados en estas marcas estarán frustrados una y otra vez, hasta que a ellos también les deje de importar un rábano y en ese momento, será demasiado tarde para Mattel y sus distribuidores si quieren corregir la situación...
Conseguí mi invitado para esta reseña a través del mercado primario, en una tienda minorista local, hace más o menos 5 años, cuando aún la distribución era muy mala y debo confesar que a pesar de ser un auto de juguete, con todas las limitaciones inherentes a su naturaleza, realmente me gusta el trabajo hecho en este F-Type.
Este es el debút del modelo, perteneciente a la Serie MBX Adventure City de 2016; ha tenido al menos 5 iteraciones, todas para la Línea Principal (categoría Regular); tiene carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico negro, con una proporción diecast / plástica apenas decente (gracias al techo plástico), pero un nivel de detalle más que decente.
El trabajo de pintura fue hecho en negro con acabado brillante, complementado por tampos y/o calcomanías para detalles al frente (emblema de la parrilla, faros delanteros, tomas de aire en el capó), tomas de aire falsas en los guardafangos delanteros, luces de cola y emblemas traseros, mínimos pero muy bien ubicados; añadí toques de pintura plateada para los espejos retrovisores laterales y las puntas de los escapes.
Las ventanas son solo ligeramente ahumadas y eso no funciona demasiado bien para este modelo, especialmente sin un tampo para el techo (algo que antes era común en la Línea Principal de esta marca), así que en este caso una sombra más oscura sería mucho mejor, las ruedas plásticas presentan diseño de rimes Split 10 Spoke en cromado y fue hecho en Tailandia...

I guess that being under the shadow of the stunning Jaguar E-Type must be something quite challenging, even for a "spiritual successor", but the world must go on, companies must go on and Jaguar, a car maker that started developing sidecars for motorcycles in 1922, was no exception to this rule...
Jaguar Cars, as it was formerly known, because since 2013 it changed to Jaguar Land Rover, after it was acquired from its previous owner Ford Motor Company by the Indian multinational Tata Motors, could not continue indefinitely in the market, thinking that the success of its most emblematic model would last forever...
And it’s not that the E-Type were the only gem in the crown of Jaguar, NO, the car brand has also in its hall of fame: the 1951 - 1953 C-Type, its successor the 1954 - 1957 D-Type and the XKSS (street legal version of the D-Type), the 1948 - 1954 XK120 or the 1959 - 1967 Mark II, just to mention some old school members.
But the E-Type, also known as XK-E in the North American market and produced between 1961 and 1975, was and is even nowadays a symbol of the brand of the pouncing feline, because the model was immensely popular among celebrities and it was the dream of many mere mortal without the means to buy a car like that.
It’s not wonder, the car offered an unparalelled performance as sports car, thanks to a family of experimental engines (identified as X), that had several improvements during its development, starting the series with the A version and reaching its peak with the K version: the E-Type was powered initially by a 3.8 L, Inline 6 Jaguar XK6 engine.
Nonetheless, what made the E-Type iconic was its extremely sexy body design and this blend of styling and performance is what my guest for this publication tried to replicate: the 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe V8 American Specs, a Compact 2-Door / 2 Seater Fastback Coupe Sports Car / Grand Tourer.
My guest had some very big shoes to fill, that’s for sure, so much that it’s a mission that actually cannot be accomplished, because examining this matter from a historical context, as it should be, the F-Type is not nearly as outstanding as the E-Type was.
Yet, in terms of styling and up to a point in terms of performance, the F-Type is a more than worthy successor or more properly, as it was designated, a "spiritual successor" of the E-Type, because it’s sexy, neat, aggressive, fast and a great car as a whole, that brought back some of the "swag" of its predecessor...
It’s not ironic that only until you are no longer interested in toy cars made by Matchbox, particularly the more recent offers, somehow Mattel and its distributors decided to "normalize" distribution in your homeland, after years and years of an appalling availability of its products in the primary market?...
Well, that’s precisely what has been happening since the middle of the last year, at least here in Colombia, South America, where I live, there are even several distributors bringing a decent amount of models to their toys aisles.
To add to the irony, in the place of origin of Matchbox, namely United Kingdom (UK), the distribution seems to remain as appalling as it has been since at least 10 years ago, if not even worse, with just one or two distributors (the Asda and Tesco chain stores, as far as I know) and a very irregular availability of several lines or batches that never arrive on top of that...
Whether Mattel wants to kill Matchbox as brand, also Hot Wheels, in the UK and the rest of Europe or not, its lack of care about distribution of these products, added to the really bad decisions of local large distributors, are digging the grave for these brands of toy cars in several regions around the world and this will grow like a snowball rolling down a hillside.
Even worse, since many collectors, including me, have decided to stop letting toy car brands to "play" with us, well, we stopped buying MBX and HW products or even we stopped searching for them, so we don’t care anymore if these problems are solved or not.
But those who are still interested in these brands will be frustrated time and time again, until they also stop giving a damn and at that moment, it will be too late for Mattel and its distributors if they want to correct the situation...
I got my guest for this review through the primary market, in a local retail store, pretty much 5 years ago, when the distribution was still very bad and I must confess that despite being a toy car, with all the limitations inherent to its nature, I really like the work made on this F-Type.
This is the debut of the model, belonging to the 2016 MBX Adventure City Series; it has had at least 5 iterations, all for the Mainline (Regular category); it has diecast body and black plastic chassis, with a barely decent diecast / plastic proportion (thanks to the plastic roof), but a more than decent level of detail.
The paint job was made in black with glossy finishing, complemented by tampos and/or decals for details on the front (grille emblem, headlights, air intakes on the hood), faux air intakes on the front fenders, tail lights and rear emblems, minimal but very well placed; I added silver touches of paint on the side rearview mirrors and the exhaust tips.
The windows are only slightly smoked and that doesn’t work too well for this model, specially without a tampo for the roof (something that was common before for the Mainline of this brand), so in this case a darker shade would be much better, the plastic wheels feature Split 10 Spoke rims design in chrome and it was made in Thailand...
