Las cosas han cambiado bastante desde que el primer vehículo hecho a medida para viajar y "habitar" simultáneamente, fue usado por la familia Conklin, en un pintoresco viaje por carretera desde Huntington, Nueva York a San Francisco, California, por allá en 1915; este singular transporte llamado "Gipsy Van" ("Van Gitana"), fue fabricado por Gas-Electric Motor Bus Company, propiedad de Roland Conklin y representa la idea más cercana a un RV (Vehículo Recreativo - VR, por sus siglas en inglés) que podrías encontrar...
Hay una industria completa alrededor del "viajar por tu propia cuenta", que si bien no es tan grande como la industria alrededor del "viajar programado", hay suficiente espacio en este mercado para albergar una buena cantidad de compañías como: American Coach, Coachmen RV, Entegra Coach, Fleetwood RV, Forest River Inc., Holyday Rambler, Jayco Inc., Monaco Coach, Newmar Corporation, Nexus RV, Pacific Coachworks Inc., Thor Industries Inc., Tiffin Motorhomes, Winnebago Industries Inc., etc...
Esta lista incluye solo algunas de las empresas más importantes en el mercado de los Estados Unidos, además algunas de ellas son parte de conglomerados, las cuales fabrican principalmente VRs Clase A (las casas rodantes más grandes y más lujosas disponibles, excepto por los modelos hechos a la medida).
Otros vehículos recreativos, como: VRs Clase B, VRs Clase C, Remolques de Viaje, VRs Crucero, Remolques de 5ª Rueda, Remolques Emergentes / Expandibles / Abatibles, constructores a medida o compañías de otras regiones alrededor del mundo no son mencionadas, así que puedes tener una idea del tamaño de ese mercado.
Precisamente, mi invitada para esta publicación es una de las muchas ofertas en el segmento de las Casas Rodantes Clase A: la Casa Rodante / VR Fleetwood Bounder 35K (36.25 pies) a Gasolina (Chocolate Malta), un Vehículo Recreativo (VR) Grande de Lujo Clase A Tipo Bus, hecho por Fleetwood RV, que como mencioné en una reseña anterior, actualmente es parte del REV Group, Inc.
Esta es una interpretación contemporánea de la legendaria Bounder, que una vez estuvo en la cima de los productos ofrecidos por esta empresa, pero ahora está acompañada por otros modelos como: Discovery LXE (Diesel), Discovery (Diesel), Frontier (Diesel), Pace Arrow (Diesel), Southwind (Gasolina), Fortis (Gasolina) y Flair (Gasolina).
Justo como sucede con la vasta mayoría de vehículos recientes, es sustancialmente más grande y más lujosa que su contraparte original y ofrece más espacio, comodidad y practicidad / conectividad que lo que muchos hoteles son capaces de entregar hoy en día, con capacidad de remolque encima de eso y opciones adicionales para equipamiento de fábrica.
Esto te hace pensar un poquitín ¿dónde está el espítiru aventurero que inspiró en gran parte estos vehículos hace más de un siglo o quizás se transformó más bien en un espíritu francamente complaciente, porque estos vehículos alientan más la dependencia en las "comodidades" de esta manera de vivir contemporánea, que quiere mantenerte demasiado ocupado para pensar en lo que realmente está sucediendo a tu alrededor o lo que realmente importa, más bien que la independencia, la vida fuera de la red, la aventura?...
En mi última publicación presentando un modelo de GreenLight (del cual puedes leer aquí), mencioné un rasgo clave de esta marca que explica, al menos en parte, su éxito en un mercado extremadamente competitivo, donde varias empresa que alcanzaron fama han tocado fondo: su enfoque en acuerdos de licenciamiento desde el principio, pero tengo que decir que hubo tiempos cuando estos acuerdos no estuvieron relacionados con el mundo de los deportes, particularmente deportes a motor...
Continuando con la historia de esta marca, después de un corto periodo de trabajar con modelos "prestados" de Motormax, porque esta compañía necesitaba empezar con algo y en realidad muchas empresas en este y otros segmentos han recurrido a esta "táctica", en 2005 fue decidido introducir modelos propios, empezando con productos en escala 1:64.
Esa ha sido por lejos la de mejores ventas entre todas las escalas que esta marca produce: una Serie IndyCar Garage y una Serie Muscle Car Garage fueron las ofertas principales (y las únicas hasta donde sé) en el momento cuando esta nueva etapa empezó; tanto la presentación como los modelos en sí experimentaron una mejora notable con respecto a sus contrapartes Motormax.
La presentación para la Serie IndyCar (IC) no fue el clamshell habitual, sino una tarjeta grande y gruesa, con una burbuja grande incluyendo no solo el modelo mismo, con su respectiva bandeja plástica, sino una tarjeta de colección y el logo de la Serie en relieve; el empaque clamshell fue reservado para los modelos de concesionario o ligeramente personalizados desarrollados para la Serie Muscle Car Garage (MCG).
Esta última fue la primera incursión de GreenLight en productos licenciados que no estaban relacionados directamente con eventos deportivos o medios de entretenimiento; cada lanzamiento presentaba 6 modelos con 2 variaciones de color / decoración y ese era su rasgo principal, al menos hasta 2007, cuando una variante Hobby Collection fue introducida, incluyendo accesorios / herramientas de taller y solo un color / decoración fue ofrecida en este caso.
El periodo entre 2005 y 2010 fue muy "movido" para GreenLight: en 2007 fue ofrecida la Serie GL Exclusive, el primer intento de esta marca para crear productos vendidos solo en línea; para 2008 fueron introducidas la Serie Black Bandit ofreciendo toda clase de vehículos con esquemas de color en tonos de negro, para una apariencia más amenazante, ruda y la Serie County Roads, presentando una amplia variedad de vehículos cotidianos, incluyendo autos de policía, vehículos corporativos y utilitarios, coches familiares, etc.
En 2009 la altamente popular Serie Hot Pursuit fue añadida a la alineación, incluyendo vehículos con decoraciones y accesorios basados en departamentos de policía reales, mayoritariamente de Estados Unidos, pero algunas veces de otros países también, así como la Serie Speed (donde el licenciamiento relacionado con eventos deportivos o medios de entretenimiento retornó al centro de atención), la Serie Hobby Distributor Exclusive (predecesora de la Serie Hobby Exclusive, limitada en promedio a 1.000 unidades de cada modelo fabricado), la Serie Special Edition (S.E.), presentando versiones especiales del Corvette C6, incluyendo en traje de carreras, una Serie de muy corta duración en efecto y la Serie Motor World (una línea de nivel de entrada o económica).
Para 2010 la Serie GL Muscle fue introducida (la cual es de alguna manera la continuación de la anterior Serie Muscle Car Garage Hobby Collection, ya que los primeros lanzamientos incluyeron accesorios / herramientas de taller) y con cada nuevo lanzamiento, GreenLight exploró diferentes temáticas donde sus modelos basados principalmente en Muscle Cars (tanto clásicos como modernos), Autos Deportivos, Autos de Carreras, Autos Clásicos y Vehículos Utilitarios (incluyendo Pickups y Patrullas de Policía), predominantemente del mercado de los Estados Unidos, pudieran ser relevantes y atractivos para los coleccionistas.
El número de modelos fue expandido considerablemente y esta variedad de vehículos ha sido fundamental para el posicionamiento de GreenLight en el mercado de las réplicas a escala en diecast, como ha estado sucediendo con otras marcas reconocidas, porque los coleccionistas están interesados usualmente en vehículos que pueden ver de forma regular y la cultura alrededor de ellos, no solo en vehículos del mundo de los deportes a motor o del mundo del entretenimiento.
En mi caso particular como coleccionista adulto, fue el factor que me hizo poner mis ojos en GreenLight, es así de simple; esta historia continuará y puedes encontrar más sobre ella aquí, aquí y aquí, así que ahora enfoquémonos en mi invitada, ¿de acuerdo?...
Conseguí esta Fleetwood Bounder de 2016 en el mercado secundario con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador / vendedor privado, hace más o menos 6 años; los productos de GreenLight Collectibles no han estado disponibles en el mercado primario, no tienes muchas opciones en mi patria (Colombia, Suramérica), donde solo puedes recurrir a tiendas de juguetes y coleccionables especializadas locales, pero su inventario es muy limitado y los precios son usualmente más altos, con pocas excepciones.
Pertenece a la Serie Route 66 U.S.A. (Heavy Duty) - Edición Limitada de 2015, una línea que alguna vez fue parte de la Serie Special Edition, fue introducida en 2011 y estuvo inspirada por los viajes por carretera, especialmente a través de la legendaria Ruta 66 de Estados Unidos; fue acompañada en este lanzamiento por la Fleetwood Bounder de 1986.
Esta réplica a escala de casa rodante ofrece carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico negro, a diferencia de su contraparte de 1986, esta Bounder tiene interiores completos, con un nivel de detalle más que decente y ya que no pueden verse desde afuera, abrí el modelo (tiene tornillos en lugar de los remaches habituales), la dosis de diecast es más que satisfactoria y es encantador para mí ver esta clase de vehículos de cualquier marca, especialmente al nivel de precio razonable de GreenLight (bueno, no tan razonable hoy en día, porque los precios de estas Bounder se han incrementado desproporcionadamente, si me lo preguntas).
El trabajo de pintura replica muy fielmente el esquema de color exterior Chocolate Malta del VR (RV) real, con un diseño dinámico presentando una combinación de 5 colores: una base en bronce medio con acabado de escarcha metálica, más burgundi, bronce medianoche, champaña y plateado medio.
Una versión especial de este esquema de color fue ofrecida como promocional exclusivo y otros 3 esquemas color (Autumn Breeze - Brisa de Otoño, Caramel Kiss - Beso Caramelo y Glistening Slate - Pizarra Reluciente) fueron reproducidos también después, el Winter Haven - Refugio de Invierno fue aparentemente omitido; estuvo complementado por varios tampos y/o calcomanías a todo alrededor, también blanco para la parte superior, para realismo mejorado.
El modelo presenta varios insertos plásticos para los faros frontales, espejos retrovisores laterales, unidades de aire acondicionado frontal y central, 3 escotillas sobre el techo, tubería para los dos toldos y la manija a la derecha de la puerta de acceso.
Tiene ventanas ahumadas que podrían ser consideradas insertos plásticos también, ya que fueron montadas independientemente; las ruedas multiparte presentan diseño de rimes 10 Dots en cromado, las cuales son casi idénticas a aquellas del VR (RV) real (8 Dots para este último) y llantas en caucho sintético labradas, duales para la parte trasera; finalmente, este modelo fue hecho en China...

There is a whole industry around "traveling by your own", that while is not as big as the industry around "scheduled traveling", there is enough room in this market to shelter a good amount of companies like: American Coach, Coachmen RV, Entegra Coach, Fleetwood RV, Forest River Inc., Holyday Rambler, Jayco Inc., Monaco Coach, Newmar Corporation, Nexus RV, Pacific Coachworks Inc., Thor Industries Inc., Tiffin Motorhomes, Winnebago Industries Inc., etc...
This list includes only some of the most important companies in the United States market, besides some of them part of conglomerates, which manufacture mainly Class A RVs (the largest and most luxurious motorhomes available, except by bespoke models).
Other recreational vehicles, like: Class B RVs, Class C RVs, Travel Trailers, Crossroads RVs, 5th Wheel Trailers, Pop-Up / Expandable / Fold-Down Trailers, bespoke builders or companies from other regions around the world are not mentioned, so you can have an idea of the size of that market.
Precisely, my guest for this publication is one of the many offers in the segment of Class A Motorhomes: the 2016 Fleetwood Bounder 35K (36.25 ft) Gasoline RV / Motorhome (Chocolate Malt), a Large Luxury Recreational Vehicle (RV) Class A Type Bus, made by Fleetwood RV, that as I mentioned in a previous review, is currently part of the REV Group, Inc.
This is a contemporary rendition of the legendary Bounder, that once was at the top of the products offered by this company, but now is accompanied by other models like: Discovery LXE (Diesel), Discovery (Diesel), Frontier (Diesel), Pace Arrow (Diesel), Southwind (Gasoline), Fortis (Gasoline) and Flair (Gasoline).
Just like it happens with the vast majority of recent vehicles, it’s substantially larger and more luxurious than its original counterpart and offers more room, comfort and practicality / connectivity than what most hotels are able to deliver nowadays, with towing capacity on top of that and additional options for equipment from factory.
It makes you think a little bit about where is the adventurous spirit that largely inspired these vehicles more than a century ago or perhaps it became rather a frankly accommodating spirit, because these vehicles encourage more the dependency on the "amenities" of this contemporary way of living, that wants to keep you too busy to think about what’s really happening around you or what really matters, rather than the independence, the life off the grid, the adventure?...
In my last publication featuring a model by GreenLight (of which you can read here), I mentioned a key trait of this brand which explains, at least partially, its success in a market extremely competitive, where several companies that achieved fame have hit bottom: its focus on licensing deals from the get go, but I have to say that there were times when these deals were not related with the world of sports, particularly motorsports...
Continuing with the history of this brand, after a short period working with models "borrowed" from Motormax, because this company needed to start with something and actually many companies in this and other segments have resorted to this "tactic", in 2005 it was decided to introduce models of its own, beginning with products in 1:64 scale.
That has been by far the best selling among all scales this brand produces: an IndyCar Garage Series and a Muscle Car Garage Series were the core offers (and the only ones as far as I know) at the moment when this new stage began; both the presentation and the models themselves underwent a noticeable improvement regarding their Motormax counterparts.
The presentation for the IndyCar (IC) Series was not the usual clamshell, but a thick and big card, with a big bubble including not only the model itself, with its respective plastic tray, but a trading card and the logo of the Series embossed; the clamshell packaging was reserved for the stock or slightly customized models developed for its Muscle Car Garage (MCG) Series.
The latter was the first foray of GreenLight in licensed products that were not related directly with sport events or entertainment media; each release featured 6 models with 2 color / decoration variations and that was its main trait, at least until 2007, when a Hobby Collection variant was introduced, including shop tool accessories and only one color / decoration was offered in this case.
The period between 2005 and 2010 was very "moved" for GreenLight: in 2007 it was offered the GL Exclusive Series, the first attempt of this brand to create products sold online only; by 2008 were introduced the Black Bandit Series offering all kinds of vehicles with color schemes in shades of black, for a more menacing, badass appearance and the County Roads Series, featuring a wide arrange of everyday vehicles, including police cars, corporate and utilitarian vehicles, family cars, etc.
In 2009 the highly popular Hot Pursuit Series was added to the lineup, including vehicles with liveries and accessories based on actual police departments, mostly from United States, but sometimes from other countries too, as well as the Speed Series (where the licensing related with sport events or entertainment media returned to the spotlight), the Hobby Distributor Exclusive Series (predecessor of the Hobby Exclusive Series, limited in average to 1,000 units of each model manufactured), the Special Edition (S.E.) Series, featuring special versions of the Corvette C6, including in racing suit, a very short-lived Series indeed and the Motor World Series (an entry level or budget line).
For 2010 the GL Muscle Series was introduced (which is somehow a continuation of the previous Muscle Car Garage Hobby Collection Series, since the first releases included shop tool accessories) and with each new release, GreenLight explored different themes where its models based mainly on Muscle Cars (both classic and modern), Sport Cars, Racing Cars, Classic Cars and Utility Vehicles (including Pickups and Police Patrols), predominantly from the market of United States, could be relevant and appealing for collectors.
The number of models was considerably expanded and this variety of vehicles has been fundamental for the positioning of GreenLight in the market of scale replicas in diecast, as it has been happening with other renowned brands, because collectors are interested usually in vehicles they can see in a regular basis and the culture around them, not only in vehicles from the world of motorsports or the world of entertainment.
In my particular case as adult collector, it was this factor what made me lay my eyes on GreenLight, is that simple; this history will continue and you can find more about it here, here and here, so now let’s focus on my guest, shall we?...
I got this 2016 Fleetwood Bounder in the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer / private seller, pretty much 6 years ago; the products by GreenLight Collectibles have not been available in the primary market, you don’t have many options in my homeland (Colombia, South America), where you can only resort to local specialized toys and collectibles stores, but their stock is very limited and prices are usually higher, with few exceptions.
It belongs to the 2015 Route 66 U.S.A. (Heavy Duty) Series - Limited Edition, a line that was once part of the Special Edition Series, it was introduced originally in 2011 and it was inspired by road trips, specially through the legendary Route 66 of United States; it was accompanied in this release by the 1986 Fleetwood Bounder.
This motorhome scale replica offers diecast body and black plastic chassis, unlike its 1986 counterpart, this Bounder has full interiors, with a more than decent level of detail and since it can’t be seen from outside, I opened the model (it has screws instead of the usual rivets), the diecast dose is more than satisfactory and it’s lovely for me to see this kind of vehicles by any brand, specially at the reasonable price level of GreenLight (well, not so reasonable nowadays, because the prices for these Bounder have risen disproportionately, if you ask me).
The paint job, replicates very faithfully the exterior Chocolate Malt color scheme of the actual RV, with a dynamic design featuring a combination of 5 colors: a base in medium bronze with metal flake finishing, plus burgundy, midnight bronze, champagne and medium silver.
A special version of this color scheme was offered as a promo exclusive and other 3 color schemes (Autumn Breeze, Caramel Kiss and Glistening Slate) were also reproduced later, the Winter Haven was seemingly omitted; it was complemented by several tampos and/or decals all around, also white for the top, for improved realism.
The model features several plastic inserts for the headlights, side rearview mirrors, front and center air conditioner units, 3 hatches on the roof, tubing for the two awnings and the handle at the right of the access door.
It has smoked windows which could be considered plastic inserts too, since they were independently mounted; the multipart wheels feature a 10 Dots rims design in chrome, which are almost identical to those of the actual RV (8 Dots for the latter) and styled synthetic rubber tires, dual for the rear; finally, this model was made in China...
