2013 - 2015 McLaren P1 - Compact 2-Door 2-Seater Fastback Coupe Hybrid Hyper Car 2016 HW Exotics Series 1/10 - 71/250 Diecast Scale 1:65 by Hot Wheels

There is an agenda behind the current -forced- transition from the propulsion mainly by internal combustion (gasoline / diesel), with attemps in fuel cell, electric, hybrid and other quite promising technologies to electric-only mobility, in a similar way that there was an agenda behind the -forced- transition from propulsion by steam, electric, internal combustion to internal combustion-only mobility in late 19th century, that favored blantlantly the oil industry...

This transition has nothing to do with "being environmentally-friendly and reducing the carbon footprint", "making mobility more intelligent, efficient and eventually autonomous" or all the distraction sophisms used by those driving these forced changes worldwide...

It only has to do with shaping and control of human history; ultimately and in accordance with the vision of a pre-manufactured future, tailored to the wicked ambitions of those who once imposed internal combustion engines more than a century ago, among other things: amass huge fortunes with fraudulent businesses, based on inefficient and expensive technologies for mobility, is just an excuse, entertainment, shaping and control of human history is the real goal.

If you don’t think is a matter of large scale control and shaping of human history, just imagine our current society removing internal combustion vehicles from the scene of the last 140 years, or even in a less radical turn of events, devise our current society without the occurrence of the "70’s oil crisis" (an orchestrated crisis) and consider how different our world would be to what we know nowadays: I’m not just talking about "mobility", if you know what I mean...

From a historical standpoint, nobody with half a brain would see vehicles powered by internal combustion as mere "means of transportation" or their selection among other mobility technologies, as a coincidence, because once you remove them from contemporary times, the changes and intricate connections between them and global economy are just too noticeable to not consider them shapers of civilization.

Now that you can at least envision what has been happening since pretty much a century and a half ago, from a brand new perspective, I guess you will see "with different eyes" the introduction of my guest for this publication: the 2013 - 2015 McLaren P1, a Compact 2-Door 2-Seater Fastback Coupe Hybrid Hyper Car.

And you should, because there was nothing "random" in the "sudden" interest of exotic car brands on hybrid products, during the second decade of the present century, as well as there was either nothing "random" in the emergence of several compact electric cars of different typologies during the 90s.

Extravagant hypercars like the P1, are indeed a follow-up to vehicles more down to earth like the Chrysler TEVan (based on the Town & Country minivan), Solectria Force (based on the Geo Metro), Solectria Sunrise, General Motors EV1, Ford Ranger EV, Chevrolet S-10 Electric, Honda EV-Plus, Toyota RAV4 EV, Nissan Altra, BMW 1, etc.

This agenda have to include vehicles from different provenances, companies, typologies and budgets, developed with a certain spacing in time, in order to generate the perception, among people who hardly check recent history, particularly since 20th century onwards, that "yeah, this a is a natural trend regarding mobility for the near future, so that’s the way we should follow", how convenient!, don’t you think so?...

Electric-only mobility is very far from being the only or the best option available for massive mobility and that’s a fact very well established since more than a century ago: it has several important limitations and the technologies developed in that segment are quite inefficient, but more importantly: the "environmentally-friendly" argument wielded at nauseam by its promoters is a huge, huge fallacy, as reputed engineers and other true experts in these matters have pointed out, long ago...

There is something very well established for anyone with an average knowledge about Hot Wheels: popular cars are its most recurrent topic in all the lines and categories that this brand puts in the market, which is no surprise because these products help quite a bit to boost sales and represent a sure bet most times, the kind of bet HW loves...

In that sense, exotic cars are the kind of stuff that the blue brand of Mattel considers first, in order to negotiate licenses and manage production, since they are very popular among buyers eager to grab toy cars based on these vehicles and even some collectors are interested on them too...

Being a collector myself and having interacted with colleagues from diferent regions of the world, I know by experience that exotic cars or popular cars in general are not as preferred among us as some people might think; in fact and as "weird" as it might sound, we prefer more down to earth models, those based on vehicles we see everyday or those we own, we have owned or we have driven at some point of our life, which are not necessarily popular.

Bearing in mind this fact, how many times you have the chance to own, drive or at least see in the flesh a McLaren P1?, well, in my case the chances are virtually zero, so a toy car is a pretty much decent option to put a vehicle like that in my collection...

Now, I have to confess that the external design of the McLaren P1 is not precisely the one I find most appealing in the triunvirate of models that represented the category back in the first half of the 2010s, the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder, in that order, are better in my opinion as designer, albeit I do not underestimate the volumen of engineering it involves and that has its own merit.

I got this item through the primary market, in a local retail store and the main reason why I decided to add it to my collection, was to give some company to the LaFerrari I got by the same time (of which you can read here), because in terms of design, it’s just not my type of car.

Ryu Asada was in charge of the design of this toy car and the work is very interesting, albeit there are some inconsistencies, in particular on the door panels, that do not include all the details seen in the actual car: it looks pretty flat instead of curvy and curves are the most prominent trait in the external design of this hybrid beast.

The model debuted as part of the Mainline in 2015, with two variations, mine is the third iteration of at least 16 for lines in the Regular category, including one very bland iteration for an Adult line (Car Culture - Cars & Donuts); the dose of diecast puts this item on the edge of being a plastcast, due to the top of this model that is virtually a single piece of plastic and that’s not precisely a compliment, specially when the chassis is plastic too, in black.

The paint job in royal blue with metallic finishing, was the other factor that made me put my eyes on it: that color suits the model really good and there were included only tampos and/or decals for the headlights, tail lights and a tiny emblem in front. /span>

It has smoked windows that do not let you see well the black interiors, but a basic level of detail is what you should expect anyway; the plastic wheels feature 10 Spokes rims design, with chrome finishing, that reproduce incredibly good the actual ones and it was made in Malaysia...

Act 20:35-38 "I have showed you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the LORD JESUS, how he said: It is more blessed to give than to receive. And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all. And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him, sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship."

2013 Ferrari LaFerrari (F150) 2-Door Berlinetta Mildly Hybrid Hyper Sports Car 2014 HW City - Speed Team Series 38/250 Diecast Scale 1:66 by Hot Wheels

ENGLISH
It was 1999, when the twentieth century was coming to an end, that Horacio Pagani introduced to the world his first brainchild: the Pagani Zonda C12 at the Geneva Motor Show and he shook the exotics car segment not only with a new car, but with a whole new category of beasts...

His creation was so groundbreaking, that he felt (I guess) a sort of severe digestive disorder, when someone (wretched and prosaic) decided to qualify his development as a Super Car or Super Sports Car...

It was too boorish for the taste of Pagani, so it was determined to coin a new term for his Zonda: Hypercar or Hyper Sports Car...

A term so bombastic results for me ludicrous, but I’m aware of the superiority complex suffered by most of the italian (or pseudo-italian) manufacturers of exotic sports cars; exception made in the case of Ferruccio Lamborghini, who was able to challenge Enzo Ferrari in his own territory, being a tractor builder.

Ever since, this segment has been progressively populated by other brands, some very well known like: Porsche, McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti and others more "clandestine" like: Apollo, Koenigsegg, Zenvo, Mazzanti, Spania, Hennessey, Callaway, W Motors, Laraki, Devel, Marussia, Glickenhaus, Arash, SSC, Saleen, Jaguar, Aston Martin and the list continues.

The first entrance to this exclusive and conceited world of Hypercars by Ferrari was what I would consider a big misstep: the controversial Ferrari Enzo...

To say that the Enzo is a beautiful car, is to mock on the meaning of this term in any existing language, as well as to say that it was a small blemish in the record of Ferrari, because if this car brand were only about performance, Enzo would have decided to close his factory long ago, for his own sake.

Ignoring any compliment that Ferrari (obviously biased) fanatics would make in favor of the Enzo, for it’s pointless to argue about something so evident, for me is clear that Ferrari was in debt with car enthusiast and automotive industry equally and it took some time for this brand to do things the right way.

The 2013 Ferrari LaFerrari (F150) 2-Door Berlinetta was the result of years of research and development, in a seemingly long term program of the company for present and future releases.

Part of this program is the Ferrari FXX, a race car and prototype based on the Enzo, whose owners were only allowed to drive them on special track days, previously approved by Ferrari.

If you take a look to the Ferrari FXX Evoluzione, you will find a clear resemblance with the LaFerrari and it couldn’t be otherwise, since there is a direct lineage that starts with the 250 GT SWB, continues with the 250 GTO, the 288 GTO, the F40, the F50 and ends with the Enzo itself.

Then, the LaFerrari has racing car DNA, but in the practice is way more forgiving in terms of driving and well, while Ferrari could make a car for professional race drivers, the goal here was a car enjoyable for the "average Joe" (considering that no average Joe has US$1,420,112 -its list price- to spare in normal conditions).

When this beast was freed by Ferrari, what most specialized journalists noticed and criticized was the name: LaFerrari, that in words of the creators meant the "ultimate Ferrari", but in the ears of these journalists sounded laughably self-referential.

What they expected from a Hypercar other than a Hypername, even if it sounds Hyperegocentric, Hypersnob or Hyperstupid? HUH?...

What is not laughable is the design, that this time was developed in-house, not with the usual collaboration of Pininfarina and it’s absolutely superb (albeit I still prefer the Lamborghini Veneno in that sense =PPPPP), as well as its enviable performance, thanks to a combination of active and passive aerodynamics, a formidable chassis and a 382 cu in, 6.3 L, V12 engine, coupled to a AC permanent magnet synchronous electric motor (called HY-KERS System), producing a total of 950 hp, with a top speed of 218 mph!...

The absence of Ferrari in the portfolio of Hot Wheels since 2015, apparently, leaves a big hole, hard to fill and for this reason, there was concern among some collectors and "opinion leaders" of this hobby, so much that there were speculations about a "forced" change in the approach for future releases of the blue brand of Mattel.

After an exclusive and very profitable license agreement of 15 years between these brands and with the undeniable popularity of Ferrari around the world, you could claim that it was a great loss for Mattel, but I have a very different opinion about this matter...

Firstly, Ferrari is just one among dozens of licenses paid by Hot Wheels and just like in the real world: if Ferrari disappears, the world will not come to an end; after almost 2 years, HW continues in the business and it’s still attractive for many, the cavallino rampante is NOT the center of the universe, by the way...

In second instance, what collectors of this brand should worry about is the increasing use of plastic, replacing diecast parts and the quality control in finishes for the mainline, that includes the so vaunted Treasure Hunts, which goes into freefall, while the prices are rising...

And if these people want to worry about something else, well, the hoarders and scalpers have taken careful note of the end of the license agreement between Hot Wheels and Ferrari so, they will charge you a fortune if you want to play the role of idiot before them and you allow it...

Fortunately, all those worries don’t mean anything for me and you could say that I’m indolent with the "collectors affected" by this situation, but if more people in this guild were more coherent and freethinker, so that they will not be manipulated, this hobby would be more pleasurable for all of us...

Now, regarding the item introduced in this publication, I got this nice model by myself, through the regular channels of distribution, when the respective batch was available; I should visit several retail stores before finding it, I didn’t want the red one (the first release) since as I could check, it had several issues with paint and tampos finishes, but it was worth: I didn’t pay a single cent more of the regular value...

It was surprising to know that the designer involved in the development of this cast was Phil Riehlman, but after looking at the quality in the rendition (that others consider poor), it made sense for me; since it was released in 2014, for the HW City - Speed Team Series, only two versions were made.

It has diecast body and black plastic chassis; the paint job was made in silver with Metalflake finishing, somehow, this paint covers better the surface and lets you see the details, unlike the red of the other version that was applied in thicker layers; there are tampos and/or decals for the head lights and a pair of Ferrari emblems.

The windows and the roof are a single piece, smoked, the interiors were worked in black, with the average level of detail of the regular lines; the plastic wheels feature Phil Riehlman 5 Spoke rims design in chrome and it was made in Malaysia...

Mat 1:18-23 "Now the birth of JESUS CHRIST was on this wise: when as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying: Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His Name JESUS: for HE shall save His people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the LORD by the prophet, saying: behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His Name EMMANUEL, which being interpreted is, GOD with us."
