Definitivamente, algunos modelos de autos crean un halo de leyenda alrededor de ellos tan poderoso, que otros fabricantes de coches son forzados de alguna manera a desarrollar una especie de "antídoto", si ellos quieren permanecer en la mente de los entusiastas del mundo automotriz.
Algunas veces el "antídoto" es lanzado el mismo año siguiente (ya saben, el espionaje industrial existe) y otras veces toma más de una década, depende de muchos factores; pero si el modelo que originó la leyenda es lo suficientemente exitoso, habrá réplicas de seguro.
La leyenda que estoy considerando esta vez, no es otro que un carro con nombre mítico, hecho por Ford: el Thunderbird...
Últimamente, he estado publicando algunos ejemplos de este vehículo innovador y créanme, no fue adrede o al menos no fue algo consciente; tal vez mi inconsciente está jugándome bromas automotrices...
Pero está muy bien, porque estaba sospechando que tenía demasiado buen gusto y esto debe brotar de algún lado, ¡HEHE!...
Ahora, en serio, el Thunderbird fue bastante inspirador al comienzo y la ironía es que, si no fuera por la creación del Chevrolet Corvette, el Thunderbird probablemente no existiría; pero el círculo fue cerrado cuando el Thunderbird inspiró al Chevrolet Monte Carlo...
Ya que el Corvette evolucionó como un Muscle Car y después como un Super Sport Car, General Motors necesitaba algo para llenar el vacío y la respuesta fue el Monte Carlo, un coupé personal de lujo que estaba en el mismo segmento del Pontiac Grand Prix.
Quince años después del lanzamiento del Thunderbird, el primer Monte Carlo llegó a los concesionarios y aunque fue clasificado como un auto de tamaño mediano, se construyó sobre la misma plataforma A de los sedanes, es decir, casi 3 metros de lámina metálica y supongo que saben que Estados Unidos no es tímido cuando se trata de tamaños.
No obstante, la "crisis del petróleo" de los 70s, obligó a los fabricantes de coches a reducir el tamaño de todos sus modelos, en prácticamente todos los segmentos del mercado y obvio, el Chevrolet Monte Carlo Coupé de 1979 no fue la excepción.
Este pertenece a la tercera generación del modelo (1978-1980) y presentaba un diseño de carrocería más encajado y con todo, más moderno, elegante y deportivo, justo como los carros cuadrados que me encantan de esa era...
Habían curvas, pero principalmente bordes afilados, una buena dosis de cromo, también cierta semejanza con el contemporáneo y más costoso Cadillac, el cual es el estándar de lujo en GM.
Un total de 10 opciones de motores estuvieron disponibles para el Monte Carlo, empezando con uno de 231 pulgadas cúbicas, 3.8 L, Buick, clasificado en 105 hp y terminando con uno de 305 pulgadas cúbicas, 5.0 L, V8 de Bloque Pequeño, clasificado en 140 hp; además uno de 350 pulgadas cúbicas, 5.7 L, LF9 V8 Diesel fue parte del grupo.
Estos podían ser acoplados a una transmisión manual de 3 ó 4 velocidades y la opción de una transmisión automática Turbo Hydramatic de 3 velocidades, pero las transmisiones automáticas se convirtieron en la única opción desde esa época...
No había forma que dejara pasar la oportunidad, de conseguir otro Lowrider para mi colección y Hot Wheels tiene una selección interesante de modelos para satisfacer mi gusto.
Este molde es más bien reciente y la primera versión fue lanzada en 2001; el diseñador a cargo fue David Weise, quien tiene un prontuario de buenos moldes para modelos licenciados y unos pocos no licenciados también.
Aunque este modelo está basado en el Chevrolet Monte Carlo Coupé de 1979, el molde fue denominado Montezooma, con todo, creo que tiene sentido cuando te das cuenta que dicho nombre tiene un aire mexicano (lo que explicaré en una publicación futura).
El modelo pertenece a la Serie Cruisin’ America - Lowriders, una línea Adulta que fue hecha exclusivamente para Wal-Mart.
Venía dentro de un clamshell de lujo con una presentación similar a la de la Serie Hall of Fame.
El Monte Carlo fue altamente personalizado, rebajando toda la carrocería, la suspensión, quitando una buena porción del techo (haciendolo lucir como un auto tipo spider), adicionando luces cuádruples y una rejilla frontal especial, entre otros, para darle el estilo Lowrider correcto.
Tiene carrocería en diecast con chasis en plástico dorado, trabajo de pintura increíble en negro brillante con una decoración abigarrada (en negro, rojo y dorado), interiores personalizados en dorado perlado, ventanas tintadas en amarillo y ruedas multiparte con rimes dorados 5 Spoke Pro-Circuit (PC5) y llantas plásticas; fue fabricado en Malasia...
¡Te guste o no, los Lowriders están aquí para quedarse! =PPPPP...

ENGLISH Definitely, some car models create a halo of legend around them so powerful, than other carmakers are somehow forced to develop a sort of "antidote", if they want to remain in the mind of the enthusiast of the automotive world. Sometimes the "antidote" is launched the very next year (you know, the industrial espionage exists) and sometimes it takes more than a decade, it depends on many factors; but if the model which originated the legend is successful enough, there will be replicas for sure.
The legend I’m considering this time, is no other than a car with mythical name, made by Ford: the Thunderbird...
Lately, I have been publishing some examples of this groundbreaking vehicle and believe me, it was not on purpose or at least it was not something conscious; maybe my unconscious is playing me automotive jokes...
But it’s pretty fine, because I was suspecting that I had too much good taste and it must sprout from somewhere, HEHE!...

It belongs to the third generation (1978-1980) of the model and featured a body design more boxy and yet, more modern, stylish and sporty, just like the squared cars I love from that era...
There were curves, but mainly shard edges, a good dose of chrome, also certain resemblance with the contemporary and more expensive Cadillac, which is the standard for luxury in GM.

There was no way I could pass up the chance of getting another Lowrider for my collection and Hot Wheels has an interesting selection of models to cater my taste.
This cast is rather recent and the first version was launched in 2001; the designer in charge was Dave Weise, who has a record of good castings for licensed models and a few non licensed models as well.
Although this model is based on the 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Coupe, the casting was called Montezooma, yet I think it makes sense when you realize that such name has a mexican feeling (which I will explain in a future publication).
The model belongs to the Cruisin’ America - Lowriders Series, and Adult line which was made exclusively for Wal-Mart.
It came inside a deluxe clamshell with a similar presentation to that of the Hall of Fame Series.
The Monte Carlo was heavily customized, lowering all the body, the suspension, removing a good portion of the top (making it look like a spider type car), adding quad headlights and a special front grille, interalia, to give it the correct Lowrider style.
It has diecast body with golden plastic chassis, incredible paint job in glossy black with a motley decor (in black, red and golden), customized interiors in pearled gold fairly detailed, yellow tinted windows and multipart wheels with 5 Spoke Pro-Circuit (PC5) golden rims and plastic tires; it was made in Malaysia...
Whether you like it or not, the Lowriders are here to stay! =PPPPP...

Is Monte Carlo named after a place... Heavily but nice mod of the original... It's bold with a good touch of gold. The Americans have that flamboyant projection on their machine.
since this is a personal luxury coupe, Monte Carlo is a quite appropriate name... the Lowrider aesthetics is fully achieved in this model !!!... the only thing i would add, is a suspension gimmick and it would be perfect, but even without that, is still an outstanding diecast and i love it !!! =)

After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
