Poco a poco, he estado "coqueteando" con diferentes tipos de deportes a motor, algo a lo que no estaba acostumbrado, a pesar del hecho que soy un entusiasta consumado de casi todo los relacionado con autos... 

Encontraba bastante aburrido mirar por TV, por ejemplo, una carrera F1 y debo decir que aún ocurre (lo lamento por aquellos que les gusta la F1, pero nahhh, no es mi monedita de oro y ni hablar de los recientes escándalos en los cuales la FIA estuvo involucrada =PPPPP)... 

Podría mencionar otras carreras como aquellas relacionadas con rally (Campeonato Mundial de Rally -WRC, por sus siglas en inglés- y Campeonato Mundial de Rallycross -WRX, por sus siglas en inglés-), las competiciones de los prototipos de ultra alto desempeño (Campeonato Mundial de Resistencia -WEC, por sus siglas en inglés-), aquellas que involucran coches de turismo (Campeonato Mundial de Autos de Turismo -WTCC, por sus siglas en inglés-), las carreras NASCAR, las carreras Drag de la NHRA, etcétera, ¡pero eso ha cambiado principalmente a causa de mi afición!... 

Ahora soy más receptivo a escarbar en los pormenores, curiosidades e incluso intrigas de estas competencias y el turno esta vez es para NASCAR. 

Ya que esta no es la primera publicación sobre este tema, añadiré más hechos para esos que no saben mucho de esta organización. 

Por ejemplo, NASCAR regula más de 1.500 carreras en más de 100 pistas en Estados Unidos y Canadá, pero extiende su jurisdicción a otros países en Europa y México. 

Hay tres categorías principales donde NASCAR es especialmente fuerte y cuando digo fuerte quiero decir, las más grandes en términos de cubrimiento de los medios e inversión publicitaria: la Sprint Cup Series, la Nationwide Series y la Camping World Truck Series. 

Esta publicación versa sobre un ejemplo de la Sprint Cup Series, anteriormente conocida como Winston Cup Series, por la época en que el carro mencionado aquí estuvo compitiendo, basado en el Pontiac Grand Prix GT Coupé de 2002. 

A propósito, es muy probable que las competiciones NASCAR fueran usadas intensivamente por los principales fabricantes norteamericanos de autos, con el fin de promocionar algunas de sus marcas, particularmente aquellas con una buena reputación que cuidar o la "plataforma" para lanzar nuevos modelos al estrellato. 

No obstante, puedes encontrar muestras de marcas y modelos que han sido descontinuados, Pontiac misma fue removida del portafolio de GM en 2010 y el modelo Grand Prix sobrevivió hasta 2008. 

Sobre el Grand Prix, diré que este modelo estaba declinando en popularidad cuando fue incluido en las carreras NASCAR; también, en mi opinión personal, este modelo tuvo sus altas y bajas cuando estamos hablando del diseño en general, con años excepcionalmente buenos y años para olvidar. 

El Pontiac Grand Prix merece una reseña en profundidad y en el futuro recibirá más atención de mi parte; por ahora, revisemos este fino modelo que conseguí hace más de dos años... 

No hay muchos modelos licenciados de NASCAR en mi colección, obviamente no soy un fanático incondicional de dicha franquicia, pero me permito disfrutar unos pocos modelos, en particular luego que fuí expuesto a artículos recientes, que son más que satisfactorios. 

Los primeros modelos licenciados de NASCAR que ví, ofrecidos por colegas coleccionistas e importadores, eran, bueno, decepcionantes y ya que las tiendas mayoristas e incluso la mayoría de tiendas de coleccionables especializadas aquí, son reacias a importar esta clase de diecast, simplemente pasé de ellos... 

Pero la industria del diecast ha evolucionado frenéticamente y he visto ejemplos extraordinarios de réplicas a escala NASCAR que rivalizan con cualquier modelo de alta gama de las más reputadas marcas disponibles en el mercado. 

Racing Champions es uno de los fabricantes oficiales de diecast NASCAR y, por lo tanto, hay un compromiso notable en la fidelidad con respecto a los modelos reales. 

Este pertenece a la Serie Chase The Race Collector’s y la presentación es bastante apropiada: una tarjeta grande y gruesa, impresa a todo color, repleta de información de las licencias involucradas y algunos de los extras en esta Serie. 

Representa el coche real usado por el conductor profesional norteamericano Stacy Compton, propiedad de A. J. Foyt, el #14, patrocinado por Conseco Inc (actualmente CNO Financial Group). 

El modelo presume un gran nivel de detalle y proporción; tiene carrocería en diecast con chasis en plástico gris, el trabajo de pintura en verde oscuro y chartreuse es extremedamente preciso y lo mismo puede ser dicho sobre el set de diminutos logos de los patrocinadores, ¡ya me dí cuenta que ellos toman muy seriamente su reputación!... 

Como en el modelo previo publicado aquí, los interiores son de primera categoría, detalles nítidos doquiera, lindo trabajo en la jaula de seguridad y las ventanas delantera/trasera tiene tampos. 

Las ruedas son plásticas, de una sola pieza, pero bastante realistas, con tampos amarillos de Eagle Goodyear, el "paquete" incluye una linda base negra de exhibición y una tarjeta de colección con el frente en color, presentando la fotografía del piloto y la parte de atrás en blanco y negro, que puede ser insertada en la base, pero a diferencia del modelo anterior, esta tarjeta tiene un diseño vertical...

Little by little, I have been "flirting" with different types of motorsports, something I was not so used, despite the fact I’m a consummate enthusiast of almost anything related with cars... 

I found quite boring to watch on TV, for instance, a F1 race and I must say that it still happens (sorry for those who like F1, but nahhh, is not my cup of coffee and let alone the recent scandals in which the FIA was involved =PPPPP)... 

I could mention other racing like those related with rally (World Rally Championship -WRC- and World Rallycross Championship -WRX-), the competitions of ultra high performance prototypes (World Endurance Championship -WEC-), those involving touring cars (World Touring Car Championship -WTCC-), the NASCAR racing, the NHRA Drag racing and so on, but that has changed mainly because of my hobby!... 

Now I’m more receptive to scrabble in the details, curiosities and even intrigues of these competitions and the turn this time is for NASCAR. 

Since it’s not the first publishing on this topic, I will add more facts for those who don’t know so much of this organization.

By the way, it’s very likely that the NASCAR competitions were used intensively by the main american car manufacturers, in order to promote some of their brands, particularly those with a good reputation to care or the "platform" to release new models to the stardom. 

Nonetheless, you can find samples of brands or models that have been discontinued, Pontiac itself was removed from the GM portfolio in 2010 and the Grand Prix model survived until 2008. 

About the Grand Prix, I will say that this model was declining in popularity when it was included in the NASCAR racing; also, in my personal opinion, this model had its ups and downs when we are talking about overall design, with years exceptionally good and years to forget. 

The Pontiac Grand Prix deserves an in depth review and in the future it will receive more attention on my part; by now, let’s check this fine model I got over two years ago... 

There are not many NASCAR licensed models in my collection, obviously I’m not a hardcore fanatic of such franchise, but I allow myself to enjoy a few models, in particular after I was exposed to recent items which are more than satisfying. 

The first NASCAR licensed models I saw, offered by fellow collectors and importers, were, well, disappointing and since the wholesale stores and even most of the specialized collectibles stores here, are reluctant to import this kind of diecast, I just passed on them... 

But the diecast industry has evolved frantically and I have seen some extraordinary examples of NASCAR scale replicas that vie with any high end model of the most reputed brands available in the market. 

Racing Champions is one of the NASCAR official diecast makers and hence, there is a noticeable commitment in faithfulness regarding the actual models. 

This one belongs to the Chase The Race Collector’s Series and the presentation is quite appropriate: a big and thick full color card, packed with information of the licenses involved and some of the extras in this Series. 

It represents the actual car used by the american professional driver Stacy Compton, property of A. J. Foyt, the #14, sponsored by Conseco Inc (currently CNO Financial Group). 

The model boast a great level of detail and proportion; it has diecast body with gray plastic chassis, the paint job in dark green and chartreuse is extremely accurate and the same can be said about the tiny set of sponsors logos, I already realized that they take seriously their reputation!... 

As in the previous model published here, the interiors are top notch, sharp details everywhere, nice work on the safety cage and the front/rear windows have tampos. 

The wheels are plastic of a single piece but quite realistic, with yellow Eagle Goodyear tampos, the "package" includes a nice black mini display base and a trading card with the front in color, featuring the picture of the pilot and the back in black and white, which can be inserted in the base, but unlike the previous model, this card has a vertical design...
