En el reino VDU, una tierra que puede ser bastante inhóspita, hay básicamente dos facciones o clanes disputándose la preferencia de sus habitantes: los Civilizados y los Brutos... 

Cada facción ha usado su propia estrategia, cada clan tiene sus propias fortalezas y debilidades, y aunque han hecho cualquier esfuerzo imaginable por mantener su lucha como un asunto local, residentes de otras tierras han tomado partido y algunos de ellos han sido convertidos en fanáticos leales de una u otra causa... 

La verdad es que este reino fue poblado originalmente por los Brutos, su hegemonía fue completa e indiscutible desde tiempos antiguos, su legado ha sido preservado para las nuevas generaciones pero, con el paso del tiempo, las viejas costumbres han perdido su encanto para muchos. 

Los Brutos creían en el valor del trabajo duro, las cosas ganadas con esfuerzo las cuales eran para ellos como trofeos, exhibidos con orgullo; "las circunstancias difíciles forjan tu carácter y te hacen una persona digna" decían... 

Ellos valoraban también el contacto directo con la naturaleza, la belleza de los territorios inexplorados de su tierra; los medios de transporte que construían, eran concebidos con estos abruptos parajes en mente. 

Los Brutos han sido constructores habilidosos, usaban los materiales más resistentes para sus vehículos y los hacían para durar, porque creían que solo las cosas que resisten la prueba del tiempo son valiosas. 

Sus vehículos eran básicos, escuetos, en los ojos de otros eran abiertamente rudimentarios y grotescos, pero de hecho había una estética implícita en las creaciones de los Brutos, la estética de la funcionalidad, la belleza concisa y franca de las cosas útiles, que funcionan en la forma que deberían, que cumplen su rol, una y otra vez, porque se esforzaban en hacer las cosas bien, desde el principio. 

Los vehículos de los Brutos necesitaban un montón de mantenimiento, hecho metódicamente por sus dueños, pero esto no era una carga porque podían hacerlo sin la ayuda de otros, en realidad ellos aprendieron a apreciar sus medios de transporte y a cambio, sus vehículos les daban décadas y décadas de servicio, pasando de una generación a la siguiente, estos eran sus caballos de batalla... 

Poco a poco, no obstante, un grupo de disidentes surgió, se llamaban a sí mismos los Civilizados, ellos fueron formados en los principios de los Brutos, pero no pasó mucho tiempo antes que decidieran repudiar tales principios, con el fin de "darle a las personas lo que querían"... 

Estas personas desarrollaron tecnologías revolucionarias y una estética nueva, las cuales fueron incorporadas en sus medios de transporte. 

Sus vehículos eran innovadores, fascinantes, ofrecían un nivel de confort jamás visto antes y eran fáciles de manejar, al menos aparentemente. 

Los Civilizados convencieron a muchas personas que sus caballos de batalla eran los mejores, hordas de Brutos cayeron rendidos ante el encanto de la sofisticación, la automatización y el prestigio derivado de ser parte de una nueva clase. 

Ahora ellos pertenecían al clan de los Civilizados, sus antiguos y confiables vehículos, hechos por los Brutos, sus ancestros, fueron relegados al olvido, ellos no querían ser recordados más como Brutos, era una especie de vergüenza pública... 

Sin embargo, los Civilizados nunca le dijeron al pueblo que sus caballos de batalla tecnológicos tenían varias limitaciones; entre otras, no eran tan robustos, confiables y durables como los vehículos hechos por los Brutos, además, en caso de falla, no podían ser reparados por sus dueños, pero ya que fueron producidos en masa, un reemplazo se convirtió en la "solución", haciendo todo desechable... 

Los Brutos y sus vehículos fueron diezmados, pero las viejas costumbres nunca desaparecieron, porque había personas que apreciaban los artefactos bien hechos, los vehículos hechos para durar, cuidados con esmero por sus dueños, como si fueran compañeros leales, miembros de la familia... 

Y llegar a pensar que esta extraña historia fue inspirada por un artículo digital que leí, sobre el Hummer H1, que lo calificaba como un "VDU bruto"; ¡pero cualquier parecido con la realidad no es mera coincidencia! =PPPPP... 

Los VDUs en general y los Hummer H1 en particular, no son precisamente el objeto de deseo para las personas promedio, difícilmente reciben crédito por sus capacidades off-road sobresalientes y una situación similar ocurre en el ámbito del coleccionismo. 

Por otro lado, el gusto de la gente promedio o las tendencias de moda entre los coleccionistas son asuntos que me importan muy poco y así es como siento que esta afición puede ser una expresión de mí mismo, algo auténtico, más honesto, no algo que hago para ser adulado y superar mis problemas de autoestima o cosas por el estilo. 

Estoy introduciendo un modelo a escala del Vehículo Deportivo Utilitario de Trabajo Mediano AM General Hummer H1 Vagoneta 4 Puertas de 1999, hecho por Hot Wheels y huelga decir que es un modelo que anhelaba en mi mini-garaje (ya sabes que los camiones, VDUs, vehículos militares y similares son parte de mis debilidades). 

No es la primera vez que un Hummer H1 es introducido en mi blog (otros modelos de mi colección fueron incluidos en la sesión de fotos), pero es la primera y única publicación presentando uno de la línea Premium Hot Wheels 100%. 

La masividad del Hummer H1 es legítimamente representada en esta reproducción a escala 1:61, con un gran nivel de detalle, proporción y lindos acabados. 

Mi opinión sobre esta línea no ha cambiado un ápice: es lo mejor que Hot Wheels ha producido jamás en esta escala (sí, mejor que los sobrevaluados RLCs, Mail Exclusives, modelos de Convención y mucho mejor que los cacareados Super Treasure Hunts). 

Pertenece a la Serie Xtreme Trucks de 2000; solo 5 versiones fueron hechas de esta réplica en diecast, todas ellas para la línea 100%, 4 variaciones de color y 1 presentando una decoración Hot Rod y diseño de rimes exclusivo para este modelo. 

Ofrece construcción completa en diecast, la carrocería es una sola pieza (excepto por el capó), a diferencia de modelos hechos por otras marcas, donde el techo es una pieza separada en plástico; con respecto al trabajo de pintura, fue hecho en burgundi con un sutil acabado de escarcha metálica, complementado por tampos blancos Hummer en los paneles inferiores laterales y más tampos para las luces delanteras y de señal; el chasis fue pintado en negro, con acabado mate y el sistema de escape es un inserto separado pintado en plateado. 

El protector frontal es un inserto en plástico negro, así como el motor, que recibió toques de pintura en plateado y presenta un capó con bisagra hacia adelante como el vehículo real. 

Los interiores son más bien simples, sin timón y aparentemente fueron pintados en beige con acabado brillante, algo inusual en esta línea; las ruedas son multiparte, presentando rimes de diseño realista en burgundi, con llantas off-road en caucho labradas de perfil alto, incluye una base de exhibición, con cubierta acrílica y fue hecho en China...

In the SUV kingdom, a land that could be quite inhospitable, there are basically two factions or clans disputing the preference of its inhabitants: the Civilized and the Brutes... 

Each faction has used its own strategy, each clan has its own strengths and weaknesses, and albeit they have made any devisable effort to keep their fight as a local affair, residents of other lands have taken sides and some of them have been converted into loyal fans of one or another cause... 

The truth is that this kingdom was populated originally by the Brutes, their hegemony was complete and indisputable since ancient times, their legacy has been preserved for the new generations but, with the passage of time, the old ways have lost their charm for many. 

The Brutes believed in the value of hard work, the things earned with effort which were for them like trophies, proudly displayed; "tough circumstances forge your character and make of you a worthy person" they said... 

They valued as well the direct contact with nature, the beauty of the untapped territories of their land; the means of transportation they built, were conceived with these abrupt places in mind. 

The Brutes has been skilled builders, they used the toughest materials for their vehicles and they made them to last, because they believed that only things which stand the test of time are valuable. 

Their vehicles were basic, stark, in the eyes of others these were openly rudimental and grotesque, but in fact there was an implicit aesthetics in the creations of the Brutes, the aesthetics of functionality, the concise and frank beauty of useful things, that work in the way they should, that fulfill their role, time and time again, because they endeavored to make things right, from the beginning. 

The vehicles of the Brutes needed a lot of maintenance, methodically made by their owners, but it was not a burden because they could do it without help of others, they actually learned to appreciate their means of transportation and in return, their vehicles gave them decades and decades of service, passing from one generation to the next one, these were their workhorses... 

Little by little, nonetheless, a group of dissidents emerged, they called themselves the Civilized, they were formed in the principles of the Brutes, but it was not long before they decided to disavow such principles, in order to "gave people want they want"... 

These people developed revolutionary technologies and a new aesthetics, which later were incorporated into their means of transportation. 

Their vehicles were groundbreaking, mesmerizing, these offered a level of comfort never seen before and were easy to handle, at least apparently. 

The Civilized convinced many people that their workhorses were the best, hordes of Brutes fell helpless under the charm of sophistication, automation and the prestige derived from being part of a new class. 

Now they belonged to the Civilized clan, their old and reliable vehicles, made by the Brutes, their ancestors, were relegated to oblivion, they no longer want to be remembered as Brutes, it was a sort of public shame... 

However, the Civilized never told people that their technological workhorses had several limitations; among others, these were not as sturdy, reliable and durable as the vehicles made by the Brutes, also, in case of failure, they couldn’t be fixed by their owners, but since they were mass produced, a replacement became the "solution", making everything disposable... 

The Brutes and their vehicles were decimated, but the old ways never disappeared, because there were people who always appreciated well made artifacts, vehicles made to last, lovingly cared by their owners, like if they were loyal partners, members of the family... 

And come to think that this strange story was inspired by a digital article that I read, about the Hummer H1, that qualified it as a "brute SUV"; but any resemblance to reality is not mere coincidence! =PPPPP... 

The SUVs in general and the Hummer H1 in particular, are not precisely the object of desire for average people, they hardly receive credit because of their outstanding off-road capabilities and a similar situation occurs in the field of collectionism. 

On the other hand, the taste of average people or the hot trends among collectors are subjects which I care very little and that’s how I feel that this hobby can be an expression of myself, something authentic, more honest, not something I do to be adulated and overcome my self-esteem issues or things like that. 

I’m introducing a scale model of the 1999 AM General Hummer H1 4-Door Wagon Medium Duty Sport Utility Vehicle, made by Hot Wheels and needless to say that it’s a model I longed for in my mini-garage (you already know that trucks, SUVs, military vehicles and the like are part of my weaknesses). 

It’s not the first time that a Hummer H1 is introduced in my blog (other models of my collection were included in the photo shoot), but is the first and only publication featuring one from the Premium line Hot Wheels 100%. 

The massiveness of the Hummer H1 is rightfully represented in this 1:61 scale reproduction, with a great level of detail, proportion and nice finishes. 

My opinion about this line has not changed a iota: it’s the best Hot Wheels has produced ever in this scale (yeah, better than the overrated RLCs, Mail Exclusives, Convention models and much better than the vaunted Super Treasure Hunts). 

It belongs to the 2000 Xtreme Trucks Series; only 5 versions have been made of this diecast replica, all of them for the 100% line, 4 color variations and 1 featuring a Hot Rod decoration and exclusive rims design for this model. 

It offers full diecast construction, the body is a single piece (except by the hood), unlike models made by other brands, where the top is a separate piece in plastic; regarding the paint job, it was made in glossy burgundy with subtle metal flake finishing, complemented by white Hummer tampos on the rocker panels and more tampos for the head and signal lights; the chassis was painted in black, with matte finishing and the exhaust system is a separate insert painted in silver. 

The front guard is a black plastic insert, as well as the engine, that received touches of paint in silver and it features forward-hinged hood as the actual vehicle. 

The interiors are rather simple, without steering wheel and seemingly they were painted in beige with glossy finishing, something unusual in this line; the wheels are multipart, featuring realistic rims design in burgundy, with high profile off-road styled rubber tires, it includes an exhibition base, with acrylic cover and it was made in China...
