Cuanto más conozco sobre Ford, más encuentro joyas automotrices escondidas de las cuales no estaba al tanto y cada una me hace admirar más la marca de óvalo azul, una admiración que en algunos círculos sería mirada con recelo... 

Durante la Era Dorada de los Muscle Cars en los Estados Unidos e incluso en años anteriores, hubo una feroz competencia entre los tres fabricantes de autos más grandes de Norteamérica: Ford, General Motors y Chrysler, cada uno con un suculento bestiario disponible para los amantes del alto rendimiento... 

La mayoría de estos quemadores de llantas fueron bastante, digamos, obvios, descarados si quieres, estos coches gritaban "mírame" por las calles e incluso un novato en estas materias los reconocería; quiero decir, ¡aún Stevie Wonder los reconocería sin problema!... 

Sin embargo, hubo también unos pocos "dormilones" de fábrica, carros que desde cierta distancia lucían bastante normales, justo como el crucero promedio para las tareas de tráfico regular, nada especial a simple vista; pero una mirada más de cerca y el sonido de sus "tripas" revelan un propósito "ligeramente" diferente. 

Mi invitado para esta publicación es precisamente uno de estos "dormilones", un monstruo listo para las pistas de drag desde fábrica que alcanzó automáticamente el estatus de leyenda: el Coupé 2 Puertas Techo Duro de Tamaño Mediano Ford Fairlane 500 GT 427 Código-R V-8 de 1966. 

Cuando la estrategia global de mercadeo Ford Total Performance estaba en pleno auge, hubo un número importante de vehículos de alto desempeño memorables, desarrollados por la marca del óvalo azul y estaban ganando carreras en ambos lados del mundo; el Fairlane 500 GT 427 Código-R V-8 fue uno de los resultados de dicha estrategia. 

Estaba basado en la quinta generación del modelo Fairlane y construido sobre la carrocería del coupé techo duro; a diferencia de sus pares en el segmento de los Muscle Cars, este Fairlane manejó un perfil muy bajo, presentando relativamente pocas diferencias exteriores o interiores con el resto de modelos en la Serie 500, el nivel de acabados más alto. 

Es algo engañoso, ya que consigues interiores casi completos, con asiento trasero de banca y asientos de cubo al frente (no algo desnudo), externamente hay paneles de acero en gran parte de la carrocería (no áreas extensivas en aluminio y/o fibra de vidrio), ventanas de vidrio (no Plexiglas), tapetes, bastante habitable. 

Bueno, no consigues radio, dirección asistida, frenos de potencia o cubierta de insonorización con este modelo, pero tienes caja de dirección de relación lenta, paquete extra de refrigeración, un capó ultraligero con inductor de aire no muy bulboso hecho en fibra de vidrio, fijado con cuatro pines de carreras y la sorpresa está dentro: un motor NASCAR reducido en desempeño, más específicamente un motor de 425 pulgadas cúbicas, 7.0 L, Ford de Bloque Grande FE 427 V8, con 2 carburadores Holley de 4 Barriles V-90deg y acoplado a una transmisión manual de 4 velocidades para trabajo pesado Toploader, prácticamente indestructible, clasificado en nada despreciables 425 hp, si esto no fuera suficiente, ¡solo 57 fueron hechos!... 

Esa es una gran descripción para un "dormilón", ¡¿no crees?!... 

Hay una suposición común entre muchos vendedores o revendedores y compradores con poco conocimiento, y es que todos los artículos de la Serie Super Treasure Hunts, parte de las líneas Regulares, son una rareza en sí mismos; en efecto, ellos lo consideran un hecho, pero ¿están en lo cierto?... 

Nosotros, los coleccionistas, por otro lado, sabemos muy bien que no hay nada raro, en el sentido apropiado de la palabra, sobre la línea Super Treasure Hunts, porque la rareza no tiene nada que ver con cuantas unidades fueron hechas de cierto artículo, sino con cuanto tiempo ha pasado desde el lanzamiento original de un cierto artículo, ya que eso es en realidad lo que hace a un producto difícil de encontrar y esto es completamente diferente a la falsa "rareza" creada por acaparadores / especuladores...

Pero si vamos a hablar acerca de cifras de producción, primero, debes saber que Mattel nunca jamás ha confirmado o certificado la cantidad total de Super Treasure Hunts hechos de cada modelo incluido en esta serie, a través de los años de su producción. 

Puedes encontrar varios sitios web que abordan este tema, afirmando que el primer lanzamiento de esta serie, en 1995, comenzó con 10.000 unidades en todo el mundo, de cada modelo (12 en total), pero eso es solo una suposición, no hay prueba irrefutable de esto, fácilmente podrían ser muchos más: estamos hablando de Hot Wheels, no de Exoto. 

Después y de acuerdo con estos sitios web, la producción fue aumentada a 15.000 unidades a nivel mundial, debido a la demanda más alta, luego a 25.000 unidades (de nuevo, simplemente suposiciones) y más recientemente, se estima que entre 30.000 y 35.000 unidades son producidas de cada modelo Super Treasure Hunts en todo el mundo. 

Si fueramos a analizar la más baja de estas cifras, a saber, 10.000 unidades por modelo (suponiendo que esa haya sido la cifra de producción, lo cual es muy discutible con esta marca), bien, esto no es una edición limitada, ni siquiera en lo era en 1995, está años luz de lo que es considerado objetivamente RARO y es una cantidad entre 2 y 1.000 veces mayor que la que los que otros fabricantes de diecast producen por cada uno de sus modelos chase. 

Considerando la producción actual de 35.000 unidades a nivel mundial (una especulación, ya que podría ser fácilmente más que eso, podría superar los 50,000) la línea Super Treasure Hunts de Hot Wheels es por lejos la más común y abundante en términos de modelos chase disponible en el mercado y por lo tanto, objetivamente hablando, la menos valiosa de todas; si no los encuentras con frecuencia, es simplemente por causa de los acaparadores / especuladores. 

Así que, cada vez que ves un "vendedor" (ejem, especulador) ofreciendo cualquier Super Treasure Hunts por un precio obscenamente alto, afirmando que es "realmente difícil de encontrar" o un "coleccionista" (ejem, estúpido fanfarrón) haciendo alarde de su "raro" modelo Super Treasure Hunts, puedes estar seguro que esas son una estafa y un intento de llamar la atención de alguien que padece problemas de autoestima respectivamente... 

Ahora que para mí el mito alrededor de esta línea de la marca azul de Mattel fue destrozado, finalmente puedo apreciarla en su justa medida, sin parcialidades y disfrutar esta serie por lo que realmente es: algo interesante, no raro, no exclusivo, no algo de lo que debas alardear, es simplemente algo agradable, eso es todo... 

Conseguí el invitado para esta reseña con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador, hace más de 5 años, por un precio muy razonable y me alegro por eso, porque no sabía en ese momento lo que sé sobre los Super Treasure Hunts hoy en día luego, puedo ver que hay todavía vendedores decentes allá afuera. 

Pertenece a la Serie Muscle Mania - Ford de 2012 y es también un STH; es otro trabajo del diseñador Phil Rielhman, este modelo fue lanzado en 2009 para la Serie New Models, con al menos 16 iteraciones, incluyendo variaciones, para líneas Regulares y Adultas; es un auto de juguete, presentando detalles agradables. 

Esta réplica ofrece carrocería en diecast y chasis plástico con acabado cromado; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en verde limón con acabado Spectraflame, complementado por una decoración deportiva con tampos y/o calcomanías en negro y blanco, sobre todos los paneles excepto el techo, el esquema de color de alto contraste definitivamente funciona bien en este modelo. 

Los interiores fueron trabajados en negro, mientras las ventanas son transparentes; las ruedas son multiparte Real Riders, presentando diseño de rimes Steelie en cromado, llantas labradas en caucho y fue hecho en Malasia...

The more I know about Ford, the more I find hidden automotive gems of which I wasn’t aware and each one makes me admire more the brand of the blue oval, an admiration that in some circles would be seen with suspicion... 

During the Golden Era of Muscle Cars in the United States and even in previous years, there was a fierce competition among the three largest american carmakers: Ford, General Motors and Chrysler, each one with a succulent bestiary available for the lovers of high performance... 

Most of these tire burners were quite, let’s say, obvious, sassy if you will, these cars shouted "look at me" by the streets and even a rookie in these matters would recognize them; I mean, ¡even Stevie Wonder would recognize them without issue!... 

However, there were also a few factory "sleepers", cars that from a distance look pretty normal, just like the average cruiser for regular traffic duties, nothing special to naked eye; but a closer look and the sound of their "guts" reveal a "slightly" different purpose. 

My guest for this publication is precisely one of these "sleepers", a ready from factory dragstrip behemoth that reached automatically the legend status: the 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 GT Midsize 2-Door Hardtop Coupe 427 R-Code V-8. 

When the Ford Total Performance global marketing strategy was in full swing, there was a significant number of memorable high performance vehicles, developed by the blue oval brand and they were winning races on both sides of the world; the Fairlane 500 GT 427 R-Code V-8 was one of the results of such strategy. 

It was based on the fifth generation Fairlane model and built on the hardtop coupe body; unlike its peers in the Muscle Cars segment, this Fairlane managed a very low profile, featuring relatively few exterior or interior differences with the rest of the models in the 500 Series, the top trim level. 

It’s kind of deceiving, since you get almost complete interiors, with rear bench seat and bucket seat in front (not something stripped down), externally there are steel panels in large part of the body (not extensive areas in aluminum and/or fiberglass), glass windows (not Plexiglas), carpets, pretty livable. 

Well, you don’t get radio, power steering, power brakes or sound deadening coverage with this model, but you have slow-ratio steering box, extra cooling package, an ultralight hood with a not so bulbous scoop made in fiberglass, fixed with four racing-style pins and the surprise is inside: a detuned NASCAR engine, more specifically a 425 cu in, 7.0 L, Ford Big-Block FE 427 V8 engine, with 2 Holley 4-Barrel V-90deg carburetors and coupled to a virtually indestructible heavy-duty Toploader 4-speed manual transmission, rated at not inconsiderable 425 hp, if that weren’t enough, only 57 were made!... 

That’s a great description for a "sleeper", don’t you think so?!... 

There is a common assumption among many sellers or resellers and buyers with little knowledge, and it’s that all the items of the Super Treasure Hunts Series, part of the Regular lines, are a rarity per se; indeed, they consider it a fact, but, are they right?... 

We, the collectors, on the other hand, know very well that there is nothing rare, in the proper sense of the word, about the Super Treasure Hunts line, because rarity has nothing to do with how many units were made of a certain item, but with how long has it been since the original release of a certain item, since that’s what actually makes a product something hard to find and it’s completely different to the fake "rarity" created by hoarders / scalpers...

But if we are to talk about figures of production, first, you must know that Mattel has never ever confirmed or certified the total amount of Super Treasure Hunts made of each model included in this series, through the years of its production. 

You can find several websites which address this topic, claiming that the first release of this series, in 1995, started at 10,000 units worldwide, of each model (12 in total), but that’s only an assumption, there is no irrefutable proof of this, easily could be many more: we are talking about Hot Wheels, not about Exoto. 

Later and according to these websites, the production was increased to 15,000 units worldwide, due to higher demand, then to 25,000 units (again, just assumptions) and more recently, it’s estimated that between 30,000 and 35,000 units are produced of each Super Treasure Hunts model worldwide. 

If we were to analyze the lowest of this figures, namely, 10,000 units per model (assuming that was the production figure, which is highly debatable with this brand), well, that’s not a limited edition, not even in 1995, that’s light years away from what is considered objectively RARE and it’s an amount between 2 and 1,000 times higher than what other diecast brands produce of each one of their chase models. 

Considering the current production of 35,000 units worldwide (a speculation, since it could be easily more than that, it could exceed 50,000) the Super Treasure Hunts line by Hot Wheels is by far the most common and abundant in terms of chase models available in the market and hence, objectively talking, the least valuable of all; if you don’t find them often, it’s just because of hoarders / scalpers. 

So, each time you see a "seller" (ahem, scalper) offering any Super Treasure Hunts for an obscenely high price, claiming that it’s "really hard to find" or a "collector" (ahem, stupid braggart) flaunting about his/her "rare" Super Treasure Hunts model, you can be sure those are a swindle and an attempt to get the attention of someone who suffers from self-esteem issues respectively... 

Now that for me the myth around this line of chase models by the blue brand of Mattel was shattered, finally I can appreciate it in its just measure, without biases and enjoy this series for what it really is: someting interesting, not rare, not exclusive, not something you should brag about, it’s just something nice, that’s all... 

I got the guest for this review with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer, more than 5 years ago, for a very reasonable price and I’m glad about that, because I didn’t know at that time what I know about the Super Treasure Hunts nowadays so, I can see that there are still decent sellers out there. 

It belongs to the 2012 Muscle Mania - Ford Series and it’s also a STH; it’s another work by the designer Phil Rielhman, this model was released in 2009 for the New Models Series, with at least 16 iterations, including variations, for Regular and Adult lines; it’s a good toy car, featuring nice details. 

This replica offers diecast body and plastic chassis with chrome finishing; the paint job was made in lemon green with Spectraflame finishing, complemented by a sporty decoration with tampos and/or decals in black and white, over all the panels except the roof, the high contrast color scheme definitely works fine in this model. 

The interiors were worked in black, while the windows are clear; the wheels are multipart Real Riders, featuring Steelie rims design in chrome, styled rubber tires and it was made in Malaysia...
