1 Tim 3:1-6 "Palabra fiel: si alguno anhela obispado, buena obra desea.
ENGLISH While the Volkswagen Golf is credited as the legitimate and yet failed (in a sense) successor of the Beetle, the Golf GTI is the variant of this model that created an entire car segment on its own and gave it a charm among the car enthusiasts that a family vehicle would never have otherwise...
Now, let me elaborate a bit this statement of ‘failed successor’, because I don’t mean that the Golf was a pitiful blunder of Volkswagen, trying to develop a worthy replacement for the Bug, no way; I’m talking about the fact that the Golf actually never replaced the Beetle, rather these models cohabited and complemented each other, with their own personality and style...
It was not the original idea of the people in Volkswagen involved in this project, but in the long term it was better for the company, because it created two different target buyers, with different expectations and mindsets: the people who like the Beetle are not necessarily the same who like the Golf and that’s fine.
However, as innovative as the Volkswagen Golf could be, regarding its predecessor, it was just another compact family car with the hatchback body configuration and there were several at that time.
The GTI, on the other hand, put the compact hatchback family cars with hormones in the spotlight and again, there were other offers with similar features including the Mini Cooper S, the Autobianchi A112 Abarth or even the Renault 5 Alpine / Gordini, that were released previously...
But none of them achieved the notoriety or popularity of the VW GTI, so much that it became the golden standard by which the rest of GTIs available in later years were judged, that’s what I would call a tremendous feat.
Time changes things for better or worse, people get older and new generations arrive with different ideas and tastes so, the industry must change with times and people; whether we like it or not, cars cannot remain the same, because their "raison d’être" is people...
The Golf GTI certainly has changed over the years and just like it happens with people, it grew in size, weight and for many car experts, who owned a ’74 Golf GTI, it lost much of its original look and feel, but that’s unavoidable, apparently.
Today I’m introducing a representative of the fifth generation of this no longer so small and light pocket rocket: the 2006 Volkswagen Golf GTI V (MK5) - Compact 3-Door Hatchback Sport Coupe, in a slightly customized version that, in my humble opinion, regarding the overall design it has not lost its essence, albeit is a different car for a different time...
If you need a pencil, a sheet of paper, a paintbrush, some markers, a notebook, a ruler, an eraser or things like that, what’s the place you should visit for sure?...
The workshop of a friend (professional illustrator), could be an option for some people who want to save some money, but you don’t have to be so petty-minded; rather, go and spend some money in a good stationery store, for GOD sake!...
And what’s your choice when you are in the middle of a random "hunt" of let’s say diecast models (or any other collectible, for that matter), HUH?...
A stationery store probably wouldn’t be in the first places of your list and that’s pretty understandable, you don’t go to a bakery if you’re looking for an USB drive, right?...
Nonetheless, the "profile" of stationery stores changes from place to place, I guess each country has its own particularities and, at least in my hometown (Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia), there are some differences in what you can find in a stationery store, depending on its location.
That being said, normally I don’t visit a stationery store when I’m looking for prospects for my collection, but once in a while, when I’m looking for a ballpoint pen, for example, I find as well an interesting collectible as bonus and that was precisely the case with the guest for this review!...
Now, the stationery stores with a sort of "toys section" are minority for logical reasons, they are considered here like miscellaneous stores instead and of that small group, those with interesting stuff are very few; if these stores happen to have anything of Hot Wheels, for instance, the assortment is usually from the most recent releases and finding something older is almost impossible, but I did it three years ago or so, in a stationery store of my neighborhood.
The 2006 Volkswagen GTI mold was designed by Rob Matthes and it’s a great work, very in the Hot Wheels style, customized but realistic; while the original sketch by Rob was way better than the final production model, I still think that it’s one of the best renditions of a Golf GTI made by the brand of the flaming logo; it has had at least 11 iterations so far and only for the Regular lines, albeit it deserves a debut in Adult lines, with full diecast construction, full decoration and a good set of multipart Real Riders wheels.
Mine belongs to the 2007 First Editions Series, it’s one of the 4 variations offered that year and actually it’s kind of difficult to find in the secondary market so, my finding in a stationery store was very satisfying; it has diecast body and chrome plastic chassis (a variation has black chassis).
The paint job for this model was made in dark blue with metallic finishing, complemented by tampos and/or decals in black, red and silver, on the hood, lip on the front grille, front VW emblem, tail lights, rear VW emblem and rear plate; I added some paint touches for the front and fog lights; the windows, including sunroof are smoked while the interiors were worked in black, the plastic wheels feature Y 5 Spoke rims design in chrome and it was made in Malaysia...
1 Tim 3:1-6 "This is a true saying: if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (for if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of GOD?) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil."
I can’t judge the VW Golf is a good or lousy car for its performance however it think it’s a nice looking car in terms of design not to compare with the successes of its predecessor or those classic design which make VW what it now is. I like Golf’s sporty look and the sun roof that many would like these era. The curves near the wheels stands out and HW surprises me with this diecast for its details on the logo, the chassis casting, to the interior seats.
Apparently in terms of performance, the more recent and the original Golf GTI share similar figures, but the original one used to be pretty spartan in equipment and amenities, hence it was notably lighter than its current counterparts and that seems to bother purists... I agree with you pal, the GTI has achieved an even more appealing look over the years, some generations more than others and as I mentioned, I love the rendition made by Hot Wheels, slightly customized with good taste and the color scheme also helps quite a bit in the overall charm !!!... =D
Among the several renditions of the Volkswagen Golf and Golf GTI available in the Hot Wheels catalog, I think this is by far the best and more appealing made to date and not only that, at least in this version, HW offered some nice tampos/decals for tail lights and front grille, along with the simulated carbon fiber hood, that really make this model standout, you don’t see these features so often in fact !!!... =D
It’s the kind of things you expect from Hot Wheels, its models are usually customized in some way, sometimes slightly and others scandalously... This time I think the designer involved used the right dose of custom touches and this Golf GTI looks really good !!!... =D
I've been looking for this from our local retailers but no luck so far... then again, I dislike the extremely over-sized wheels/tires. The color is nice though.
As far as I know, recently this models was introduced in a 5 pack including Volkswagen models, in pearled white color scheme, it was fairly available at local stores here in my hometown, released in 2016 and last year was still in stock, but in individual card is kind of difficult to find... I noticed the huge wheels in this model (pretty much 24/26" in real life), but I don’t mind about that, in fact, it looks more like the original concept for the Golf GTI of such generation and yeah, metallic dark blue works nicely in this model, you know that I prefer by far darker colors for my collectibles !!!... =D

I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...

yes to see those add on officially from car manufacture is rare. Often those add on are done by owner thru third party workshop.
