Hay marcas de autos que han tenido una gran exposición en el mercado automotor, debido a sus grandes cifras de producción y ventas, por las cuales son conocidas más ampliamente y luego, hay aquellas marcas de coches cuyo impacto en las ventas globales o su reputación son mucho menos conocidas... 

A este último grupo pertenece la compañía que estoy introduciendo para esta publicación: Citröen, un fabricante francés de automóviles actualmente parte del Grupo PSA Peugeot Citröen (desde 1976), fundada en 1919 por André-Gustave Citröen y lo que algunas personas llamarían marca "oscura" o poco conocida en este segmento... 

Ahora, quizás en algunos países Citröen o cualquier otro fabricante de carros francés para tal caso, no son precisamente familiares, pero en mi patria, Colombia y otros mercados de Suramérica, la marca del doble cheurón ha tenido presencia por mucho tiempo. 

Es sabido que el primer auto Citröen arribó al mercado colombiano a finales de los 20s del siglo pasado (un Tipo B2) y más tarde unas pocas unidades del Traction Avant, el primer coche producido en masa con tracción delantera, lanzado en 1934, arribó a finales de los 30s, algunos de ellos están todavía muy bien preservados y en condiciones de funcionamiento, lo cual les permite adornar nuestras calles de vez en cuando. 

Tal vez en una reseña futura profundizaré un poquitín más en la historia de Citröen en mi patria, pero por ahora me enfocaré en un producto particular de esta marca francesa, caracterizada por la innovación constante, también un énfasis en el diseño peculiar y tecnológicamente avanzado de sus carros. 

Mi invitado para esta publicación: el Auto de Carreras Rally Citröen C4 WRC de 2007, es un Coupé Hatchback Compacto 2 Puertas 2+2 perteneciente a la categoría World Rally Car, basado en el Citröen C4, un modelo ofrecido entre 2004 y 2010, el cual está en la actualidad en su segunda generación, pero más precisamente en el Auto Conceptual C4 Citröen Sport de 2007 (un proyecto que en realidad ignoró algunas regulaciones de la FIA). 

El C4 fue desarrollado para ser un coche más atractivo para una base más amplia de clientes, presentando un diseño más convencional y redondeado en el Hatchback 5 Puertas y un diseño más audaz, anguloso para el Coupé 3 Puertas, que mientras compartían la misma fascia frontal, eran muy diferentes en la parte trasera: deberíamos tener en mente que este modelo estaba en la misma liga del Volkswagen Golf. 

El C4 WRC, por otro lado, fue desarrollado con el claro propósito de reemplazar al exitoso Citröen Xsara WRC, usado entre 2001 y 2006, lo que hizo bastante bien, gracias a la combinación de una carrocería más larga (la cual añade mejor estabilidad en las curvas), su chasis monocasco en acero (para mayor rigidez) y obviamente su motor de 121 pulgadas cúbicas, 1,98 L, PSA XU7JP4 4 En Línea turbocargado, clasificado en 315 hp. 

Mi invitado fue el ganador del (28º) Rally Argentina de 2008, para el Citroën Total World Rally Racing Team, el # 1 fue conducido por Sébastien Loeb y Daniel Elena fue conductor adicional; el modelo estuvo cosechando victorias desde 2007 hasta 2010 (o incluso hasta 2015 en las manos de privateers / corsarios -equipos de carreras privados-) en los campeonatos de pilotos y fabricantes de los World Rally Championship!... 

Algunos coleccionables están destinados a durar más que las compañías que los diseñaron, desarrollaron y ofrecieron, eso es siempre algo triste de escuchar para los coleccionistas, pero especialmente con marcas que crearon productos dignos de ser llamados coleccionables adultos, con calidad Premium y no simplemente juguetes (sin demeritar a estos últimos, pero siendo completamente consciente de sus limitaciones)... 

Quiero decir, como coleccionista (y diseñador también, en mi caso particular), puedes percibir el amor involucrado en el diseño de ciertos juguetes, pero los coleccionables adultos involucran una dosis extra de ese amor, añadiendo atención al realismo, detalle y calidad soberbia, para entregar un producto que es la aproximación más cercana a la cosa real y mucho más recompensador en conjunto para un adulto, que los juguetes... 

CM’s Corporation es definitivamente uno de esos casos y uno del cual no oirás muy a menudo, porque se declaró en bancarrota en 2014, pero más importante aún, porque esta empresa solía producir sus coleccionables, incluyendo modelos en diecast, en ediciones limitadas y más específicamente para el mercado japonés, por lo cual son más bien difíciles de encontrar hoy en día... 

Y no como la excesivamente común y publicitada línea Super Treasure Hunts de modelos de juguete en "diecast" (con cada vez más plástico) hecha por Hot Wheels, cuya escasez es falsa porque es causada por acaparadores / especuladores, NO, quiero decir genuínamente difíciles de encontrar. 

Como es usual para mi colección, conseguí esta magnífica réplica a escala en el mercado secundario, con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador, hace más de 3 años; pertenece a la Serie 1:64 Rally Car Collection de 2008 y como lo mencioné en una reseña anterior, fue una de las últimas líneas ofrecida antes de la extinción de CM’s. 

La presentación para este artículo es caja con ventana, la cual te permite ver este producto de la categoría Premium, deberíamos recordar que para modelos más antiguos la presentación era caja sellada y ese es un lugar común en Japón, pero no en coleccionables para mercados internacionales. 

Tiene carrocería en diecast y chasis plástico en negro, con pintura plateada para parte del sistema de escape; el trabajo de pintura y decoración de carreras son completamente fieles al auto real, hay tampos y/o calcomanías sobre todos los paneles de la carrocería y ventanas, así como insertos plásticos para las luces frontales, de cola y alerón trasero, más tres antenas removibles y los espejos retrovisores laterales fueron moldeados con la carrocería. 

Considerándolo todo, hay un compromiso impresionante con la calidad que no ves muy a menudo y estos modelos fueron desarrollados hace más de 10 años; parece que algunas marcas de diecast todavía tienen mucho que aprender de CM’s! 

Los interiores fueron finamente moldeados e incluyen la jaula de seguridad, las ruedas son multiparte, reproduciendo el diseño de rimes OZ Racing 15 Spoke en blanco y llantas en caucho labradas, incluye una linda base de exhibición negra con el nombre del modelo impreso en plateado, acabado brilloso, cubierta acrílica transparente y fue hecho en China...

There are car brands that have had great exposure in the automotive market, due to their large production and sales figures, for which they are more widely known and then, there are those car brands whose impact in the global sales or their reputation is much less known... 

To the latter group belongs the company I’m introducing for this publication: Citröen, a French automaker currently part of the PSA Peugeot Citröen Group (since 1976), founded in 1919 by André-Gustave Citröen and what some people would call an "obscure" or little known brand in this segment... 

Now, perhaps in some countries Citröen or any other French car manufacturer for that matter, are not precisely familiar, but in my homeland, Colombia and other markets of South America, the brand of the dual chevron has had presence for a long time. 

It’s known that the first Citröen car arrived to the Colombian market in the late 20s of the last century (a Type B2) and then a few units of the Traction Avant, the first front-wheel drive mass-produced car, released in 1934, arrived in the late 30s, some of them are still very well preserved and in running condition, which let them grace our streets once in a while. 

Maybe in a future review I will deepen a bit more on the history of Citröen in my homeland, but for now I will focus in a particular product of this French brand, characterized by constant innovation, also an emphasis on the quirky and technologically advanced design of its cars. 

My guest for this publication: the 2007 Citröen C4 WRC Rally Racing Car, is a Compact 2-Doors 2+2 Hatchback Coupe belonging to the World Rally Car category, based on the Citröen C4, a model offered between 2004 and 2010, which is currently in its second generation, but more precisely in the 2007 C4 Citröen Sport Concept Car (a project that actually disregarded some FIA regulations). 

The C4 was developed to be a car attractive for a wider base of customers, featuring a more conventional and rounded design in the 5-Door Hatchback and a bolder, angular design for the 3-Door Coupe, that while shared the front fascia, were very different at the rear: we should bear in mind that this model was in the same league of the Volkswagen Golf. 

The C4 WRC, on the other hand, was developed with the clear purpose of replacing the successful Citröen Xsara WRC, used between 2001 and 2006, which it did quite well, thanks to the combination of a longer body (which adds better stability on bends), its steel monocoque chassis (for more stiffness) and obviously its 121 c.i., 1.98 L, PSA XU7JP4 4 Inline turbocharged engine, rated at 315 hp. 

My guest was the winner of the (28th) 2008 Rally Argentina, for the Citroën Total World Rally Racing Team, the # 1 was driven by Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena was co-driver; the model was reaping victories since 2007 to 2010 (or even until 2015 in the hands of privateers -private racing teams-) in the drivers’ and manufacturers’ World Rally Championship!... 

Some collectibles are meant to last longer than the companies that designed, developed and offered them, that’s always something sad to hear for collectors, but specially with brands that created products worthy of being called adult collectibles, with Premium quality and not just toys (without demerit the latter, but being fully aware of their limitations)... 

I mean, as collector (and as designer also, in my particular case), you can perceive the love involved in the design of certain toys, but adult collectibles involve an extra dose of that love, adding attention to realism, detail and superb quality, to deliver a product that is the closest approximation to the real thing and much more rewarding as a whole for an adult, than toys... 

CM’s Corporation is definitely one of those cases and one of which you will not hear so often, because it filled for bankruptcy in 2014, but more importantly, because this brand used to produce its collectibles, including diecast models, in limited editions and more specifically for the Japanese market, for which they are rather hard to find nowadays... 

And not like the excessively common and hyped Super Treasure Hunts line of "diecast" (with increasingly more plastic) toy models made by Hot Wheels, whose shortage is fake because it’s caused by hoarders / scalpers, NO, I mean genuinely hard to find. 

As usual for my collection, I got this magnificent scale replica in the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer, more than 3 years ago; it belongs to the 2008 1:64 Rally Car Collection Series and as I mentioned in a previous review, it was one of the latest lines offered before the extinction of CM’s. 

The presentation for this item is window box, which let’s you see this product of the Premium category, we should remember that for older models the presentation was blind box and that’s a common place in Japan, but not in collectibles for international markets. 

It has diecast body and plastic chassis in black, with silver paint for part of the exhaust system; the paint job and racing decoration are completely faithful to the actual car, there are extensive tampos and/or decals all over the body panels and windows, as well as plastic inserts for the front, tail lights and rear wing, plus three detachable antennas and the side rearview mirrors were molded with the body. 

All in all, there is an impressive commitment to quality that you don’t see so often and these models were developed more than 10 years ago; it looks like some diecast brands still have a lot to learn from CM’s!

The interiors were finely molded and include the safety cage, the wheels are multipart, reproducing the OZ Racing 15 Spoke rims design in white and styled rubber tires, it includes a nice black display base with the name of the model printed in silver, glossy finishing, acrylic clear cover and it was made in China...
