No recuerdo tener montones de vehículos de emergencia durante mis años mozos y como he mencionado en publicaciones anteriores, he tenido una clara predilección por esta clase de vehículos; mi gusto por ellos no ha disminuido y de hecho, ha aumentado de forma consistente desde entonces... 

Los muy pocos que tuve en la forma de autos de juguete fueron hechos por Majorette, me las arreglé para conseguir de nuevo un modelo que tuve de niño, de cual puedes leer aquí, porque el original fue disfrutado y destruido hasta el punto de no retorno: el original fue hecho en Francia, mientras que mi adquisición reciente fue hecha en Tailandia... 

En la época que conseguí esos pequeños tesoros como regalos de mis padres, los productos de Majorette estaban disponibles con relativa facilidad, quiero decir, no los podías encontrar a través de cadenas de tiendas minoristas locales, en la misma forma que puedes conseguir hoy coches de juguete de Mattel, pero algunas tiendas de artículos importados del centro de mi ciudad natal (Bogotá, D.C.) eran lugares donde podías encontrar varios productos de esta marca, a precios razonables, especialmente durante los 90s. 

Más o menos 3 años después que me involucré con el mundo del coleccionismo, como adulto, por 2012 y una vez que me enganché nuevamente con los modelos de vehículos en diecast, gracias a mi contacto con productos de Johnny Lightning, decidí que quería conseguir algunos vehículos de emergencia para satisfacer mi apetito por estas maravillas. 

La tarea no fue nada fácil porque, como vine a enterarme más tarde, hay muchos coleccionistas y compradores allá afuera interesados en esta clase de vehículos, entonces tenía no solo que encontrarlos y a precios equitativos obviamente, tenía también que competir con otros coleccionistas y compradores para obtenerlos y esto involucraba visitar varias tiendas de coleccionables locales (mercado secundario) de manera regular, lo que podía ser agotador y/o frustrante algunas veces... 

Con el tiempo, llegué a conocer algunos colegas coleccionistas, que llegaron a ser amigos también en algunos casos y resultaron ser también importadores / vendedores privados, bueno, mi contacto con ellos me ayudó  bastante a conseguir lo que quería, la mayoría de veces sin las jornadas agotadoras para obtener estos artículos por mi cuenta y manteniendo los gastos dentro de mi presupuesto... 

Para esta reseña, estoy introduciendo algunos vehículos de juguete que obtuve de diferentes fuentes, tanto del mercado primario como del secundario, entre 2012 y 2017: dos amigos, colegas coleccionistas e importadores / vendedores privados me ayudaron a conseguir 2 de ellos, otro vendedor privado fue clave para conseguir 1 más y obtuve el último a través de una tienda minorista de cadena local. 

Todos estos modelos son conceptuales / de diseñador / de fantasía / originales / licenciados internamente y mis visitantes regulares saben que no desprecio esta clase de artículos, en realidad los encuentro algunas veces incluso mejores en varios aspectos que sus contrapartes licenciadas externamente, pero algunas veces pueden ser horrendos e irrelevantes también. 

Dos de ellos fueron ofrecidos por Hot Wheels, están basados en un modelo llamado simplemente Ambulance, cuyo diseño fue desarrollado por Larry Wood, lanzado en 1989 y descontinuado en 2003, después de al menos 28 iteraciones, todas para la Línea Principal (categoría Regular); este no es precisamente el trabajo más afortunado en términos de diseño de Wood, pero el modelo tiene una característica interesante y representa una Ambulancia de Emergencia Tipo I para Soporte Vital Avanzado (ALS, por sus siglas en inglés). 

Ofrece carrocería en diecast y chasis plástico en negro y cromado respectivamente, la dosis de diecast es realmente buena, se siente pesado en la mano, lo cual es lo que quieres y esperas de un vehículo de juguete en diecast; sin embargo, en la segunda muestra puedes ver un problema con el remache, que fue presionado demasiado fuerte y la parrilla frontal está torcida. 

Los trabajos de pintura fueron hechos para la primera muestra en blanco, complementado por una decoración con tampos sobre los paneles laterales, en rojo, azul y negro (la cual reproduce la usada en los lanzamientos para 1989, 1990, 1992 y 1996) y para la segunda muestra en amarillo brillante y plateado con acabado Metalflake, complementado por calcomanías hotrodescas en amarillo, rojo, negro y blanco; añadí detalles pintados en plateado, azul y rojo metalizados para ambos. 

La característica interesante de este vehículo de juguete es la apertura trasera, para la cual las puertas son plásticas, en blanco y rojo respectivamente, lo que te permite ver un interior detallado, me encanta esa clase de características; tienen ventanas tintadas en azul y naranja, con interiores blancos y rojos respectivamente, la selección de ruedas plásticas fue diseño de rimes 7 Spokes y 5 Spokes en cromado respectivamente y ambos fueron hechos en Malasia. 

Los otros dos vehículos de juguete fueron hechos por Matchbox, el primero fue llamado simplemente Ambulance, fue lanzado en 2004 y usado intermitentemente hasta 2014, con al menos 9 iteraciones, todas para la Línea Principal (categoría Regular) y representa una Ambulancia de Emergencia Tipo II para Soporte Vital Básico (BLS, por sus siglas en inglés). 

La segunda muestra fue llamada 4x4 Scrambulance, fue lanzada originalmente en 2012, el molde fue modificado para 2015 y la última vez que fue utilizado fue en 2018, con al menos 7 iteraciones, todas para la Línea Principal (categoría Regular) y representa una Ambulancia de Emergencia Tipo I Custom Todo-terreno. 

La primera muestra ofrece carrocería en diecast, techo en plástico rojo y chasis en plástico negro, la dosis de diecast es apenas decente, no tiene interiores o características de apertura, pero me gusta mucho el diseño general futurista; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en blanco, complementado por una decoración con tampos y/o calcomanías en rojo, negro, azul claro y plateado, sobre los paneles laterales y añadí algunos detalles pintados en plateado y dorado, las ventanas son tintadas en azul y las ruedas plásticas presentan diseño de rimes Ringed Gear en blanco. 

La segunda muestra ofrece carrocería plástica y chasis en diecast, la proporción de diecast está por debajo del promedio, por eso es que es un plastcast o juguete plástico con algunas partes en diecast, lo cual es decepcionante sino es que claramente insultante, aunque me gusta el diseño general (similar a algunos UNIMOGs) y el nivel de detalle; la decoración con tampos y/o calcomanías, en blanco, dorado y negro fue aplicada sobre los paneles laterales, añadí detalles pintados en rojo y azul metalizados; los interiores fueron trabajados en negro, la selección de ruedas plásticas fue idéntica a la muestra anterior y ambos fueron hechos en Tailandia...

I don’t remember having lots of emergency vehicles during my younger years and as I have mentioned in previous publications, I have had a very clear penchant for this kind of vehicles; my liking for them as adult has not diminished and in fact, it has increased consistently ever since... 

The very few I had in the form of toy cars were made by Majorette, I managed to get again a model I had as kid, of which you can read here, because the original one was enjoyed and destroyed to the point of no return: the original one was made in France, while my recent acquisition was made in Thailand... 

At the time I got these little treasures as gifts from my parents, the products by Majorette were available with relative ease, I mean, you couldn’t find them through local chain retail stores, in the same way you can get today toy cars by Mattel, but some imported goods stores at the downtown of my hometown (Bogotá, D.C.) were places where you could find several products by this brand, at reasonable prices, specially during the 90s. 

Pretty much 3 years after I got involved with the world of collectionism, as adult, by 2012 and once I got hooked again to diecast scale models of vehicles, thanks to my contact with products by Johnny Lightning, I decided that I wanted to get some emergency vehicles to please my appetite for these marvels. 

The task was far from easy because, as I came to find out later, there were many collectors and buyers out there interested too in that kind of vehicles, then I had not only to find them and at a fair price obviously, I had as well to compete with other collectors and buyers to get them and it involved visiting several local collectibles stores (secondary market) in a regular basis, which could be exhausting and/or frustrating sometimes... 

Over time, I got to meet some fellow collectors, who became also friends in some cases and they happened to be importers / private sellers too, well, my contact with them helped me quite a bit to get what I wanted, most of the times without the tiring journeys to get these items by my own and keeping the expenses within my budget... 

For this review, I’m introducing some toy vehicles that I got from different sources, both from the primary and secondary market, between 2012 and 2017: two friends, fellow collectors and importers / private sellers helped me to get 2 of them, other private seller was key to get 1 more and I got the last one through a local chain retail store. 

All these models are concept / designer / fantasy / original / internally licensed and my regular visitors know that I don’t despise this kind of items, actually I find them sometimes even better in several aspects than their externally licensed counterparts, but sometimes they can be appalling and irrelevant too. 

Two of them were offered by Hot Wheels, they are based on a model called simply Ambulance, whose design was developed by Larry Wood, released in 1989 and discontinued in 2003, after at least 28 iterations, all for the Mainline (Regular category); this is not precisely the most fortunate work in terms of design by Wood, but the model has an interesting feature and it represents an Emergency Ambulance Type I Advanced Life Support (ALS). 

It offers diecast body and plastic chassis in black and chrome respectively, the dose of diecast is really good, it feels heavy in the hand, which is what you want and expect from a diecast toy vehicle; however, in the second sample you can see an issue with the rivet, that was pressed too tighly and the front grille is crooked.

The paint jobs were made for the first sample in white, complemented by a decoration with tampos on the side panels, in red, blue and black (which reproduces the one used in the releases for 1989, 1990, 1992 and 1996) and for the second sample in bright yellow and silver with Metalflake finishing, complemented by hotrodesque decals in yellow, red, black and white; I added painted details in silver, metallic red and blue for both. 

The interesting feature of this toy vehicle is the opening rear, for which the doors are plastic, in white and red respectively, which allow you to see a detailed interior, I love that kind of features; they have blue tinted and orange tinted windows, with white and red interiors respectively, the plastic wheels selection was 7 Spokes and 5 Spokes rims design in chrome respectively and both were made in Malaysia. 

The other two toy vehicles were made by Matchbox, the first one was also called just Ambulance, it was released in 2004 and used intermittently until 2014, with at least 9 iterations, all for the Mainline (Regular category) and it represents an Emergency Ambulance Type II Basic Life Support (BLS). 

The second sample was called 4x4 Scrambulance, it was released originally in 2012, the mold was modified for 2015 and the last time it was used was in 2018, with at least 7 iterations, all for the Mainline (Regular category) and it represents an Emergency Ambulance Type I Advanced Life Support (ALS) Custom Off-Road. 

The first sample offers diecast body, red plastic roof and black plastic chassis, the diecast dose is barely decent, it has no interiors or opening features, but I like very much the futuristic overall design; the paint job was made in white, complemented by a decoration with tampos and/or decals in red, black, light blue and silver, on the side panels and I added some painted details in silver and golden, the windows are blue tinted and the plastic wheels feature Ringed Gear rims design in white. 

The second sample offers plastic body and diecast chassis, the diecast proportion is below average, that’s why it’s a plastcast or plastic toy with some diecast parts, which is disappointing if not plainly insulting, albeit I like the overall design (similar to some UNIMOGs) and the level of detail; the decoration with tampos and/or decals, in white, golden and black was applied on the side panels, I added painted details in metallic red and blue; the interiors were worked in black, the plastic wheels selection was identical to the previous sample and both were made in Thailand...
