1980 Lotus Esprit Turbo Type 82 (Prototype) 2002 40th Anniversary 007 James Bond Heroic Horsepower Series 3/4 Diecast Scale 1:62 by Johnny Lightning

Cuando estás husmeando en la no tan secreta vida del agente secreto de la IM6: James Bond, tarde o temprano tendrás que encontrarte con uno de los actores más recurrentes (sino el más recurrente) interpretando este papel: Roger Moore... 

La gente tiene diferentes opiniones sobre la caracterización de Moore en esta franquicia fílmica; algunos dicen que él rebajó el perfil serio de Bond, dándole un aire algo picaresco o humorístico, que aparentemente no mezcla muy bien con el trasfondo original del personaje. 

Personalmente, mi primer encuentro con la Saga 007 fue de la mano de Moore y a pesar que me dí cuenta del tono jocoso en su representación, no podría negar el encanto de dicho enfoque... 

Finalmente, es bueno tener una sonrisa desprevenida en tu rostro y una frase picante en tu boca, cuando estás al borde de la muerte, ¿no crees?... 

En 1981, Sólo Para Tus Ojos llegó a ser parte de la filmografía Bond y significó una marcada ruptura con las interpretaciones anteriores, donde el 007 de Moore retornó a las raíces más conectadas a tierra, del personaje principal de Ian Fleming. 

La película previa: Moonraker, catapultó a Bond a la categoría de "agente galáctico", por así decirlo, porque a pesar de ser un gran éxito en taquillas, pecó por excesos en la trama, los artilugios y el humor, rayando de alguna forma en la parodia, sin mencionar el presupuesto astronómico de su producción. 

Precisamente, los productores consideraron prudente, con el fin de mantener saludable la franquicia, restituir gran parte del espíritu original de James Bond. 

En vez del esquema de "dominación-mundial-total" de la organización criminal SPECTRE, este filme hace una apuesta más realista por algo en la onda de la Guerra Fría, es decir, el robo de tecnología militar británica. 

Otros aspectos en la película contribuyen con el realismo, como la interpretación más madura y natural de Moore para el agente 007, a quien no le importa dar una cucharada de su propia medicina a los despiadados y sistemáticos asesinos enviados para encargarse de él; o la chica Bond: Melina Havelock, quien está preparada para tomar venganza por su propia mano, por el asesinato de sus padres; una chica habilidosa, inteligente, sofisticada y audaz, lista para la acción... 

Incluso el experimentado agente de la IM6, más acostumbrado a los exquisitos gran turismo, como el Aston Martin, debe enfrentar una persecusión en un vehículo no-muy-Bond: ¡un Citroen 2CV!... 

Definitivamente, hubo un compromiso total en crear un versión convincente de este personaje y fue una movida sabia, los 80s fueron una época cuando la extravagancia era un lugar común y un Bond más sencillo y práctico es un enfoque refrescante, aunque los críticos no han sido bastante benévolos con ella... 

Sólo Para Tus Ojos, no obstante, presentó un par de autos estupendos, solo para mantener una conexión con el resto de la filmografía Bond: un Lotus Esprit Turbo Tipo 82 (Prototipo) de 1980, pintado en blanco (que fue volado en pedazos al principio de la película, cuando un par de rufianes intentaron entrar al coche) y un Lotus Esprit Turbo S2 de 1978, pintado en color cobrizo (más apropiado para las tomas en locaciones con nieve). 

Este Carro Deportivo fue la estrella del fabricante de autos británico en aquel momento y un vehículo audaz, originalmente diseñado por el famoso Giorgetto Guigiaro para Italdesign, recibió una oleada de popularidad instantánea entre los amantes de los coches, simplemente porque fue el auto del 007, ¡¿podrías creerlo?! =PPPPP... 

Johnny Lightning, quiero decir, cuando todavía estaba en vigor, fue una de las pocas marcas de diecast que lanzó modelos licenciados de esta franquicia, en esta escala (a duras penas, podría mencionar algunos modelos de Corgi, recientemente fueron añadidos un par de modelos licenciados 007 y unos pocos de Hot Wheels, y he visto un modelo no licenciado 007 de Kyosho, pero si quieres más, debes mirar en otras escalas). 

La extinta marca de diecast proveniente de Mishawaka, Indiana, ha hecho grandes interpretaciones de modelos incluidos en películas o series de TV, y esta muestra no es la excepción en lo absoluto. 

Un total de 27 modelos fueron seleccionados para la Serie 40º Aniversario del 007 y este es uno de ellos; al mismo tiempo, es uno de los pocos modelos no americanos hechos por JL y por lo tanto, una gran adición en mi colección. 

La réplica en diecast, como es costumbre, merece toda mi admiración, a causa de su innegable calidad y alto nivel de detalle por todos lados, pero es un poco desconcertante cuando se trata del modelo específico representado... 

Aunque reclama ser el Lotus Esprit Turbo Tipo 82 (Prototipo) de 1980 presentado en Sólo Para Tus Ojos, en realidad el molde representa un Lotus Esprit 300 Sport de 1989, más reciente, hecho exclusivamente para el mercado norteamericano... 

No sé la razón detrás de esta decisión, que va en contra de la fidelidad con el carro real, pero al final es una hermosa réplica a escala y eso es lo que importa. 

Por otra parte, los cuidadosos trabajos de pintura / tampos, añaden más parecido con el auto de Bond (aunque la pintura negra en el bómper trasero está cuarteada); tiene construcción completa en diecast (carrocería y chasis), interiores muy detallados en negro con volante a la derecha y ruedas multiparte con rimes cromados (una selección no tan precisa ni tan afortunada, sin embargo) y llantas labradas en caucho, ¡casi todo alineado con lo que esperas de un coleccionable Premium como este!...

When you’re snooping in the not so secret life of the MI6 secret agent: James Bond, sooner or later you will have to meet one of the most (if not the most) recurrent actors performing this role: Roger Moore... 

People have different opinions about the characterization of Moore in this film franchise; some say he lowered the serious profile of Bond, giving him a kinda picaresque or humorous feeling, which apparently doesn’t mix pretty well with the original background of the character. 

Personally, my first encounter with the 007 Saga was hand in hand with Moore and despite I realized the jocular tone in his performance, I couldn’t deny the charm of such approach... 

Finally, is good to wear an unprepared smile in your face and a spicy line in your mouth, when you’re in the edge of death, don’t you think so?... 

In 1981, For Your Eyes Only became part of the Bond’s filmography and meant a marked brake with the previous installments, where the Moore’s 007 returned to the more grounded roots of the Ian Fleming’s main character. 

The previous movie: Moonraker, catapulted Bond to the "galactic agent" category; so to say, because despite its great success in the box office, sinned by excesses in the plot, the gadgets and the humor, verging somehow in the parody, without mentioning the astronomical budget of its production. 

Precisely, the producers considered prudent, in order to keep the franchise healthy, to restore much of the original spirit of James Bond. 

Instead of the "total-world-domination" scheme of the SPECTRE criminal organization, this film makes a more realistic bet for something in the mood of the Cold War, namely, the theft of british military technology. 

Other aspects of the movie also contribute to the realism, like the more mature and natural portrayal of Moore for the 007 agent, who doesn’t mind into give a taste of their own medicine to the ruthless and systematic assassins sent to take care of him; or the Bond girl: Melina Havelock, who is prepared to take revenge into her own hands for the murder of her parents; a skillful, intelligent, sophisticated and bold girl, ready for action... 

Even the experienced MI6 agent, more used to exquisite grand tourers, like the Aston Martin, must face a car chase in a not-so-Bond vehicle: a Citroen 2CV!... 

Definitely, there was a full commitment into create a convincing version of this character and that was a wise move, the 80s were a time when the extravagance was a platitude and a more straightforward and handy Bond is a refreshing approach, albeit the critics have not been quite benevolent with it... 

For Your Eyes Only, nevertheless, featured a pair of stunning cars, just to keep a connection with the rest of the Bond filmography: a 1980 Lotus Esprit Turbo Type 82 (Prototype) painted in white (which was blown up at the beginning of the movie, when a pair of thugs attempted to brake into the car) and a 1978 Lotus Esprit Turbo S2 painted in copper color (more appropriate for the shooting in the snowy locations). 

This Sport Car was the star of the british carmaker at the time and a bold vehicle, originally designed by the famous Giorgetto Guigiaro for Italdesign, received a rush of instant popularity among the car lovers, just because it was the 007’s ride, could you believe it ?! =PPPPP... 

Johnny Lightning, I mean, when it was still in force, was one of the few diecast brands that released licensed models from this franchise, in this scale (hardly, I could mention some models by Corgi, recently were added a pair 007-licensed and a few by Hot Wheels, and I have seen a non-007-licensed model by Kyosho, but if you want more, you must look at other scales). 

The extincted brand of diecast from Mishawaka, Indiana, has made great renditions of models included in movie or TV series, and this sample is not an exception at all. 

A total of 27 models were selected for the 40th Anniversary 007 Series and this is one of them; at the same time, is one of the few not american models made by JL and hence, a great addition in my collection. 

The diecast replica, as usual, deserves all my admiration, because of its undeniable quality and high level of detail everywhere, but is a tad baffling when it comes to the specific model represented... 

Although it claims to be the 1980 Lotus Esprit Turbo Type 82 (Prototype) featured in For Your Eyes Only, actually the casting represents a more recent 1989 Lotus Esprit 300 Sport, made exclusively for the american market... 

I don’t know the reason behind this decision, which goes against the faithfulness with the actual car, but in the end is a beautiful scale replica and that’s what matters. 

On the other hand, the careful paint job / tampos, add more resemblance with the Bond Car (albeit the black paint in the rear bumper is cracked); it has full diecast construction (body and chassis), very detailed interiors in black with right steering wheel and multipart wheels with chrome rims (a choice not so accurate neither so fortunate, though) and styled rubber tires, almost everything aligned with what you expect from an Premium collectible, like this one!...
