1959 Chevrolet Biscayne V8 Series 1270 Sedan Delivery Custom (’59 Chevy Delivery) 2011 Treasure Hunts Series 15/15 Diecast Scale 1:65 by Hot Wheels

En el complejo de apartamentos donde vivo, más precisamente en los parqueaderos, compartiendo lugar con los vehículos de uso cotidiano pertenecientes a los residentes y arrendatarios, hay seis autos viejos que aparentemente tienen sus respectivos dueños... 

Lo que me hace vacilar sobre su supuesta pertenencia, es el hecho que ellos lucen con diferentes niveles de abandono, vándalos los han despojado de ciertas partes y parece que a nadie le importa... 

Hay un Renault 4, un Renault 18 y un Lada Niva, todos ellos probablemente de los 80s, además un Dodge Dart y un Nissan Patrol de los 70s; pero lo que es realmente inesperado para mí, es el automóvil más viejo del ramillete... 

No estoy bastante seguro si todos ellos merecen una restauración completa, porque en la mayoría de casos no son considerados coches de colección y tal proceso requiere una cantidad considerable de dinero, debido a su deterioro. 

Sin embargo, el último vehículo, que no he mencionado todavía, es un deber para cualquier coleccionista de carros acreditado, con una notoria predilección por los Hot Rods... 

El auto en cuestión, es una más bien rara y estupenda Chevrolet Sedán Delivery de 1955, que sin importar el paso del tiempo, el abandono y el óxido, hace gala de un hermoso Verde Niebla de Mar, el cual es parte de los esquemas de color originales disponibles para este modelo. 

Es una verdadera lástima ver un coche antiguo como este, pudriéndose en un parqueadero, como si fuera un pedazo de chatarra inservible, en vez de la joya que es en realidad, un pedazo de historia, un compañero para tus viajes, un cómplice de tus aventuras cotidianas y me recuerda, guardadas proporciones, cuán descorazonador es ver gente anciana, dejada a su propia suerte por sus parientes, como si ellos fueran desechables... 

Dirás que al parecer hay una inconsistencia en el asunto de esta publicación, pero es solo tu impresión... 

De hecho, el modelo que estoy reseñando hoy, es un descendiente del vehículo abandonado mencionado anteriormente, más grande y ligeramente más reciente: la Chevrolet Biscayne V8 Serie 1270 Sedán Delivery Custom de 1959. 

No verás muchos automóviles de esta tipología a tu alrededor, principalmente porque fueron vehículos utilitarios y, por lo tanto, fueron producidos en volúmenes extremadamente bajos... 

Déjame ponerlo en términos más claros, con el fin de tener una mejor idea de lo que estoy diciendo. 

Mientras que la producción completa del Chevrolet Biscayne de 1959, en sus diferentes estilos de carrocería, incluyendo: sedán 4 puertas, sedán 2 puertas, coupé sport, sedán sport, station wagon 2 puertas, station wagon 4 puertas y convertible, asciende a 1’436.954 unidades aproximadamente; la producción combinada de las versiones 6 cilindros y V8 de la Chevy Sedan Delivery de 1959, fue apenas de 5.226 unidades... 

Obviamente, esa es la razón más poderosa por la cual estos modelos son muy buscados por coleccionistas de coches y entusiastas de los carros en general. 

No obstante, debes adicionar el hecho que estos fueron usados típicamente como flotillas de trabajo y tendían a deteriorarse con el uso, más rápido que sus contrapartes de pasajeros. 

Además, los vehículos sedán delivery de tamaño completo, fueron virtualmente erradicados de los portafolios de los fabricantes de carros americanos más grandes, con el arribo de la Volkswagen Tipo 2 y las vagonetas compactas. 

Aunque la Chevy Delivery de 1959 fue parte de la línea Biscayne y, por lo tanto, tenía el nivel de acabado básico, el diseño de carrocería es bastante elegante y refinado, con un montón de espacio para publicidad o, en el caso de los personalizadores, para trabajos de pintura/decoraciones creativos y un área de carga más que decente. 

Tenía suspensión de muelle completa, una sola opción de color para el interior (gris), un sillón estándar, forrado en acero en la parte de atrás y el resto de las opciones estaban disponibles por un costo extra. 

Las opciones de planta de poder eran el confiable motor de 235.5 pulgadas cúbicas, 3.8 L, Hi-Thrift de 6 Cilíndros, clasificado en 135 hp; un motor de 283 pulgadas cúbicas, 4.6 L, Turbo-Fire V8, clasificado en 185 hp y el motor de 283 pulgadas cúbicas, 4.6 L, Super Turbo-Fire V8, clasificado en 230 hp... 

¡Este vehículo utilitario no solo luce fabuloso, también corre realmente bien!... 

Si no estoy mal, esta es la primera vez que publico una réplica en diecast de una sedán delivery y pienso que es una muestra magnífica de esta tipología, hecha por Hot Wheels. 

Este es un molde muy reciente, originalmente lanzado en 2010 para la Serie Hot Wheels Delivery - Slick Rides, una línea adulta y fue diseñado por Abe Lugo, parte de la nueva camada de diseñadores de esta marca. 

Debo decir que es un molde maravilloso, lleno de detalles y realismo, a pesar del hecho que fue personalizado con una línea techo ligeramente recortada, el cual recibió también molduras en relieve; el capó tiene una mejor pinta gracias al tratamiento especial tipo persiana, que le da un aire Hot Rod más fuerte, junto con la suspensión rebajada. 

Comparado con el Chevy Bel Air / Impala de 1959, diseñado por el legendario Larry Woods (que puedes ver vínculo), se destaca con una mayor semejanza con respecto al auto original; pero debes tener en cuenta que hubo 13 años de diferencia entre estos dos moldes, además que esta Chevy Delivery del 59, ha sido parte de las líneas adultas desde el principio y el único modelo producido para la línea principal, ha sido el presentado en esta reseña, hasta ahora. 

Conseguí solo una versión de este molde, el cual pertenece a la Serie Treasure Hunts, parte de las líneas Regulares (aunque muchas personas consideran a esta una línea Adulta, volveré al asunto en publicaciones futuras y explicaré porqué es una apreciación errónea la cual tiene implicaciones muy indeseables)... 

Presenta carrocería y chasis en diecast, por lo cual, es algo pesada y me encanta; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en azul oscuro metalizado, complementado por decoración con llamas amarillas / naranja y emblemas grandes Treasure Delivery en los panales superiores laterales, la combinación es perfecta; los interiores son blanco perlado, las ventanas son transparentes, las ruedas plásticas tienes diseño de rimes 5 Spoke cromado y fue hecha en Malasia...

In the complex of apartments where I live, more precisely in the parking lots, sharing place with the vehicles of everyday use belonging to the residents and lessees, there are six old cars which apparently have their respective owners... 

What makes me hesitate about their alleged ownership, is the fact that they look with different levels of dereliction, vandals have stripped them certain parts and it seems that nobody cares... 

There are a Renault 4, a Renault 18 and a Lada Niva, all of them probably from the 80s, also a Dodge Dart and a Nissan Patrol from the 70s; but what is really unexpected for me, is the oldest automobile of the bunch... 

I’m not pretty sure if all of them deserve a complete restoration, because in most cases they are not considered collector cars and such a process requires a considerable amount of money, due to spoilage. 

However, the last vehicle, which I have not mentioned yet, is a must for any reputable car collector, with a notorious predilection for the Hot Rods... 

The car at issue, is a rather rare and stunning 1955 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery, that regardless the passing of time, the abandonment and the rust, displays a beautiful Sea Mist Green, which is part of the original color schemes available for this model. 

It’s a true pity to see an old car like this, rotting away in a parking lot, like it were a useless piece of junk, instead of the gem it actually is, a piece of history, a partner for your travels, an accomplice of your everyday adventures and it reminds me, proportions saved, how disheartening is to see older people left to their own devices by their relatives, like they were disposable... 

You will say that seemingly there is an inconsistency in the subject of this publication, but is only your impression... 

In fact, the model I’m reviewing today, is a descendant of the abandoned vehicle aforementioned, bigger and slightly more recent: the 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne V8 Series 1270 Sedan Delivery Custom. 

You will not see many automobiles of this typology around you, mainly because these were utilitarian vehicles and hence, they were produced in extremely low amounts... 

Let me put it in clearer terms, in order to have a better idea of what I’m talking about. 

While the complete production of the 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne, in its different body styles, including: 4-door sedan, 2-door sedan, sport coupe, sport sedan, 2-door station wagon, 4-door station wagon and convertible, amounts to 1,436,954 units approximately; the production combined of the 6-cylinder and V8 versions of the 1959 Chevy Sedan Delivery, was barely 5,226 units... 

Obviously, that’s the most powerful reason why these models are much sought after among car collectors and car enthusiasts in general. 

Nonetheless, you must add the fact that these were used typically as work fleets and they tended to wear out faster than their passenger counterparts. 

Besides, the full size sedan delivery vehicles, were virtually eradicated from the portfolios of the largest american carmakers, with the arrival of the Volkswagen Type 2 and the compact vans. 

Albeit the 1959 Chevy Delivery was part of the Biscayne line and hence, it had the basic trim level, the body design is quite sleek and refined, with plenty of space for advertising or, in the case of the customizers, for creative paint jobs/decorations and a more than decent cargo area. 

It had full coil suspension, a single interior color option (gray), a standard single seat, steel-sheathed at the rear and the rest of options were available for an extra cost. 

The powerplant options were a reliable 235.5 cu in, 3.8 L, Hi-Thrift 6-Cylinders engine, rated at 135 hp; a 283 cu in, 4.6 L, Turbo-Fire V8 engine, rated at 185 hp and the 283 cu in, 4.6 L, Super Turbo-Fire V8 engine, rated at 230 hp... 

This utilitarian vehicle not only looks great, it also runs really good!... 

If I’m not wrong, this is the first time that I publish a diecast replica of a sedan delivery and I think that is a magnificent sample of this typology, made by Hot Wheels. 

This is a very recent cast, originally released in 2010 for the Hot Wheels Delivery - Slick Rides Series, an adult line and it was designed by Abe Lugo, part of the new litter of designers of this brand. 

I must say that this is wonderful mold, plenty of details and realism, despite the fact that it was customized with a slightly chopped roof line, which received also embossed moldings; the hood has a better look thanks to the special louvered treatment, that gives it a stronger Hot Rod feeling, along with the lowered suspension. 

Compared with the 1959 Chevy Bel Air / Impala, designed by the legendary Larry Woods (which you can see here), it stands out with a greater resemblance regarding the actual car; but you must take into account that there were 13 years of difference between these two casts, also that this ’59 Chevy Delivery has been part of the adult series from the start and the only model produced for the mainline, has been the one featured in this review, until now. 

I got just one version of this mold, which belongs to the Treasure Hunts Series, part of the Regular lines (albeit many people consider this series an Adult line, I will return to the subject in future publications and I will explain why that’s a wrong perception which has very undesirable implications)... 

It features diecast body and chassis, whereby, is kinda heavy and i love it; the paint job was made in dark blue metallic, complemented by an orange / yellow flames decoration and big Treasure Delivery emblems on the top side panels, the combination is perfect; the interiors are pearled white, the windows are clear, the plastic wheels have the 5 Spoke rims design in chrome and it was made in Malaysia...
