ENGLISH Lately, when I see people criticizing a car ruthlessly, like most hosts of TV shows or consultants for specialized websites, aimed to car fanatics, who destroy its reputation as easily as it were a mass produced piece of junk, I can’t help but feeling annoyed by their daring... Experts or not, sometimes it looks like, instead of defending the interests of car buyers, they were just making bad publicity to certain brands or models...
They are influencing people and they could be right on some of their judgements or reviews, but they don’t let us test and feel a car by ourselves, unprejudiced, as it should be...
Let’s be honest, some vehicles are a headache for us; but these same automobiles, are the only means of transportation for a lot of people who can’t afford what we consider a "decent" car so, they consider them virtually "gems" and if that weren’t enough, we tend to despise the innovation carried somewhat too far...
Let me introduce an example of what I’m saying, with a car that is cutting edge, in my humble opinion, but which is the target of criticism for many car owners around the world.
French cars are not the "holy grail" for everyone, some countries have no idea about their existence and some people in other countries, openly rant about them without a hint of shame.
As for me, in my country the french cars have been very welcome, for quite some time and these have an important share of the automotive market, with models made by the largest carmakers of such origin: Renault, Peugeot and Citroën.
The 207 range of minicars / sub-compact cars, was produced officially between 2006 and 2012, in the following body styles: 3-door hatchback, 5-door hatchback, 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon; however, the cabriolet coupe reviewed here, was produced until 2014.
It’s the successor of the Peugeot 206 CC and, as you might expect, it was followed by the 208 CC in 2012; the 2007 Peugeot 207 CC model, had 30 variants or trim levels, distributed over 6 sub-ranges.
Peugeot is renowned by developing the Cabriolet Coupe concept, back in the 30’s decade of the last century, for bigger and more luxurious models, like the 401, 601 and 402 "Eclipse" and I must say that those were very sophisticated cars, ahead of their time.
For 1998, it was developed the Peugeot 20Coeur Concept, a car that honored those vanguardists times, built on the platform of the 206.
The 20Coeur was the direct ancestor of the guest for today and I think that it was a great idea, to bring all that sophistication to a compact and everyday car of the 20 Series, made by Peugeot.
The body design for the 207 CC was refined, made more aggressive, the front fascia has that awesome feline look, which really hits the mark (because the visual identity of Peugeot, is precisely a feline); also the retractable roof mechanism, the chassis and structure rigidity, and the passive safety, were fairly improved, regarding the previous 206 CC.
The powertrain for the model I’m reviewing, which was the top of the line, was a 97.6 cu in, 1.6 L, Inline 4 Petrol engine, with Turbo Direct Fuel Injection, rated at 152 hp and coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission...
I would say we are talking about an above the average blend between style, distinction, power and economy!...
Nonetheless, as I already mentioned, there are many critics of this model, who say for example that is too expensive (have they ever thought about the mechanism for the retractable roof, which is not cheap at all?), or that its trunk is too small (so, where the retractable roof should be folded?... In the hood or the glove box, maybe?) or that it has a rather meager performance, due to the heavy retractable roof (aren’t they asking for a bit too much or why they aren’t considering to buy a Mercedes-Benz SLK with Vario-Roof instead and stop complaining like little girls?)...
As a saying says: the common sense is the less common of the senses =PPPPP...
When it comes to Norev as diecast maker, I admit that I’m kinda "rookie", just because this brand was never available through wholesale stores, retailers, specialized diecast/collectibles stores or official dealers, like in Europe, where it comes from.
Hence, the few samples I have gotten, were a "labour of love" with the help of my friends, fellow collectors and importers.
This french brand has several lines in different scales, from 1:87 to 1:12, but its most popular line is the Mini Jet, also known as 3inches (which obviously is not a scale, but a size).
Apparently, this line has a dubious market positioning, because some people consider it a line made for collectors and others a line for kids; the official position of the brand, however, tends to be the second one...
The Norev’s website is rather outdated (a blunder for something from France) and provides very little information about the actual cars taken as basis for the diecast replicas, if any, only a few pictures and sometimes a code.
This is frustrating, specially for collectors like me, who demand relevant information, like the manufacturing date of the line and/or the item, the scale (at least approximate) and the exact description of the model depicted (I mean, even Hot Wheels or Matchbox, do a better job in that sense and their models don’t reach this level of quality, in their Regular lines).
The irony here is that, albeit aimed for "kids", these models are very well done, with excellent molds, proportion, finishes and presentation, since these usually come inside window boxes and sometimes in card, also they’re not cheap at all.
This model features diecast body and black plastic chassis; the paint job was made in metallic blue, one of the colors available for the actual car (metallic red and black were optional colors), the tampos are few but very precise, basically on the front grille and the badge on the front of the hood (flat black and silver), tail lights, Peugeot badges and bumper reinforcement on the rear (red, silver and flat black).
It has plastic inserts for the head lights, something that is normally reserved for collector’s diecast, the black interiors detailing is slap-up, it has a plastic insert for the windshield, that is complemented by the detachable retractable roof (both received metallic blue paint, identical to the body), one of the gimmicks in this model.
The wheels are multipart, with plastic tires and realistic rimes in chrome; the other gimmick here is a functional suspension!... =DDDDD
Isa 29:22-24 "Therefore thus saith the LORD, Who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale. But when he seeth his children, the work of Mine Hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify My Name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the GOD of Israel. They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine."
I love the design of this Peugeot. I have seen how the convertible canopy switch and that was impressive! The design is young, sophisticated and stylish. Cool to see it made into a diecast and this diecast also has the same gimmick.
i couldn’t agree more with you, this model redefines what you can expect from a sub-compact vehicle, in terms of design it excels among other cars ranked in higher segments of the market (not to mention its peers), but all this sophistication and style come with an expensive price tag... anyway, this is a great concept and puts this kind of automobiles in a whole new level... OH, and the diecast replica is charming also !!!... =D
Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear said those cars from Peugeot (or simply "The Pug")are not well made and the handling is horrendous... not sure how true but most probably not wrong either... As a die-cast scale model, I think I like what I see, this is really a "convertible" die-cast car model.
i was talking about "those" guys or the hosts of Fifth Gear, yeah, they seem so confident in their appreciations, but they are not automotive designers, nor engineers, perhaps pilots or journalists, but they do not make cars, they just drive them, like one of us and they think they are the ultimate oracle... i find them rather anecdotal, though...
i think this model quite attractive and of course, it has fails, but the design is ahead of its time... the diecast model is also lovely for me !!!... =)

I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
