El encanto de un primitivo reto entre dos pilotos, premeditado o no, en una recta, ya sea que tenga lugar en una vía pública (lo cual es considerado ilegal) o en una pista legal de drag, es altamente subestimado por los autodenominados "conocedores"... 

Ellos suelen pontificar sobre la superioridad de los circuitos de carreras, donde una pista llena de curvas, con una recta ocasional y destinada a probar la resistencia, es el "estándar dorado"; dejando a un lado las Carreras Drag, como si esto fuera entretenimiento prosaico para bárbaros... 

¿Y adivina qué?... 

La mayoría de estos "conocedores" son de Europa así que, puedes asumir "alguna" parcialidad en sus apreciaciones, ¡pero adivina de nuevo!... 

Me importa muy poco su "enorme experticia" y prefiero darle la misma oportunidad tanto a las Carreras Drag como a las Carreras de Resistencia... 

Creo que mi blog es una muestra patente de lo que pienso al respecto. 

No obstante, debo advertir que las Carreras Drag tienen una puntuación más alta en mis afectos personales; por tanto, verás este tema más a menudo aquí. 

Esta vez traje un ejemplo muy inusual de dragster y tú podrías preguntar ¿cuál es su singularidad?... 

Bueno, el Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake Edición Prudhomme de 2007 es muy especial por varias razones, la más evidente es que este vehículo es uno legal para calle, de verdad. 

Este hecho tiene algunas implicaciones, ya que el auto que nos ocupa requiere una configuración específica de luminarias, luces de señal, rimes, llantas, equipamiento de seguridad, entre otros para su uso en vías públicas; sin mencionar su equipamiento para Carreras Drag, desde luego y muy pocos vehículos de este tipo entran en esta categoría. 

Además, este vehículo tiene como base un Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 de 2007, el cual es ya un notable Muscle Car norteamericano moderno y uno con un ejército de fanáticos alrededor del mundo, incluyéndome. 

Pero este GT500 no fue dejado virgen, NO, estamos hablando sobre algo MUY singular y eso significa un viaje a la Planta de Desempeño Especial de Carroll Shelby en Las Vegas, donde este coche es convertido en un Super Snake. 

Encima de eso, este vehículo fue desarrollado como un carro conceptual, con la participación directa de dos leyendas de las carreras de autos: Carroll Shelby y Don "Snake" Prudhomme, con el fin de conmemorar el 40º Aniversario de la primera y exitosa colaboración de "Snake" como piloto de un coche Top Fuel para Shelby, en la temporada de 1968 de la NHRA (Asociación Nacional de Hot Rod, por sus siglas en inglés). 

Puedo apostar que ninguna de las partes originales del Ford Shelby GT500 de 2007 permaneció intacta, cuando este lascivo pura sangre fue construido; con todo, todavía puedes capturar un poquitín de su pinta, lo que podría ser engañoso, ya que está listo para darle una paliza a cualquier MOPAR o Chevy en la pista... 

Y esto no es solo fanfarronadas, porque Shelby y Prudhomme no son amateurs jugando a los tipos rudos en este exigente negocio así que, este auto tiene características interesantes que avalan dichas afirmaciones. 

Las modificaciones incluyen: numerosos accesorios para mejorar notoriamente la aerodinámica y la postura agresiva, jaula de seguridad de ocho puntos, arnés de seguridad contra impacto de cinco puntos, escape lateral Borla, suspensión frontal y trasera ajustable de carreras BMR, rimes Bogart, llantas para drag (con llantas para calles opcionales)... 

Por último, pero no menos importante, el corazón de esta bestia es el "mismo" motor de 329 pulgadas cúbicas, 5.4 L, V8 DOHC (Doble Árbol de Levas sobre la Culata, por sus siglas en inglés), "endulzado" gracias a un supercargador Kenne Bell con inductor de aire modificado saliendo por el capó, produciendo fabulosos 800 hp con combustible de carreras o 750 hp con gasolina de estación de 93 octanos... 

A propósito, solo 100 réplicas fueron hechas de esta creación de Shelby / Prudhomme; fue dado a conocer durante una ceremonia privada en el Museo Wally Parks de los Deportes a Motor de la NHRA en Pomona, California y subastado en 2009 por Barret-Jackson en Las Vegas, ¡alcanzando la nada despreciable suma de US$ 275.000 (antes de la comisión a cargo del comprador)!... 

Suena muy impresionante, a pesar de ser considerado pretendidamente como un "primitivo coche de carreras drag" por los "conocedores", ¿no lo crees? =PPPPP... 

He admirado a Carroll Shelby, no solo por sus extraordinarios autos, sino porque él mismo es una leyenda; levantó una familia, fue un exitoso conductor de coches de carreras desde 1952 hasta 1960 (cuando problemas cardiacos serios, lo mantuvieron lejos de las pistas), diseñó y construyó carros y fue un colaborador independiente de Ford, entre otras cosas. 

En ese sentido, es absolutamente racional para mí, hacer lugar para modelos que él diseñó, en mi colección y por eso es que tomé mi decisión por este hermoso diecast, hecho por su propia marca: Shelby Collectibles. 

El modelo que estoy publicando hoy, es el debút de esta marca en mi blog y debo decir que merece todo mi respeto, ya que su nivel de calidad está entre los mejores que he visto hasta aquí. 

Conforme a mi experiencia y conocimiento en asuntos de diecast, puedo decir con seguridad que un modelo como este, está por encima de marcas en el mismo segmento de mercado como: M2Machines, Greenlight, AutoWorld o Racing Champions y es incluso mejor que competidores clasificados más alto como: Johnny Lightning, Kyosho, Tomica Limited Vintage / Neo o Minichamps, gracias a sus características de apertura. 

Puesto que no está disponible a través de los canales regulares de distribución (esta marca está dirigida a coleccionistas, por lo cual no es barata), lo conseguí con la oportuna ayuda de uno de mis mejores amigos, colega coleccionista e importador. 

Aunque he visto una mejora gradual en la oferta de coleccionables en mi ciudad natal, la variedad y disponibilidad están lejos todavía de lo que puedes encontrar en otros mercados, donde la cultura del coleccionismo es madura. 

El modelo presenta una construcción completa en diecast (carrocería y chasis), en un excelente molde, lleno de lindos detalles a todo alrededor y la proporción correcta. 

El trabajo de pintura es otro punto fuerte, hecho en plateado con un fino acabado de escarcha metálica y todo fue cubierto: carrocería, chasis, motor y puertas; los tampos en negro, blanco, naranja y rojo son igualmente grandiosos, incluyen las luces de señal frontales, un par de líneas finas sobre el capó, las entradas de aire del supercargador, la decoración en los paneles laterales, el parabrisas, los espejos retrovisores y las insignias en la cola. 

El auto real, no obstante, tiene un trabajo de pintura en negro brillante, pero plateado es un opción usual para un Shelby de todos modos. 

Los interiores en negro están finamente detallados, tanto como el compartimiento del motor; tiene apertura de capó y puertas, insertos plásticos para las luces delanteras y de cola, las ruedas son multiparte con rimes cromados realistas, llantas labradas en caucho con tampos amarillos Goodyear-Eagle y fue hecho en China. 

La única cosa que agregaría a este coleccionable, es una vitrina de exhibición acrílica, ¡verdaderamente la merece !...

The charm of a primal challenge between two drivers, premeditated or not, on a straight lane, either it takes place on a public road (which is considered illegal) or in a legal drag strip, is highly underrated by the self-appointed "connoisseurs"... 

They use to pontificate about the superiority of the race circuits, where a track full of twists, with an occasional straight and intended to test the endurance, is "the golden standard"; leaving aside the Drag Racing, as it were prosaic amusement for barbarians... 

And guess what?... 

Most of these "connoisseurs" are from Europe so, you can assume "some" bias in their appreciations, but guess again!... 

I care very little about their "huge expertise" and I prefer to give the same chance both the Drag Racing as to the Endurance Racing... 

I think that my blog is a patent sample of what I think about it. 

Nonetheless, I must warn that the Drag Racing have a higher raking in my personal affections; hence, you will see this topic more often here. 

This time, I brought a very unusual sample of dragster and you might ask what’s its uniqueness?... 

Well, the 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition is a very special car for several reasons, the most evident is that this vehicle is one street legal, indeed. 

This fact has some implications, since the car at hand requires specific configuration of lighting, signal lights, wheels, tires, safety equipment, inter alia for use on public roads; not to mention its equipment for Drag Racing, of course and very few cars of this kind fall into this category. 

Also this vehicle takes as basis a 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which is already a remarkable modern american Muscle Car and one with an army of fans around the world, including me. 

But this GT500 wasn’t left untouched, NO, we’re talking about something VERY singular and that means a trip to Carroll Shelby’s Special Performance Plant in Las Vegas, where this car is converted into a Super Snake. 

On top of that, this vehicle was developed as a concept car, with the direct involvement of two legends of the car racing: Carroll Shelby and Don "Snake" Prudhomme, in order to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the first and successful collaboration of "Snake" as pilot of a Top Fuel car for Shelby, in the 1968 NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) season. 

I can bet that none of the original parts of the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 remained intact, when this lecherous thoroughbred was built; yet, you can still catch a bit of its general look, which could be deceitful, since it’s ready to beat up to any MOPAR or Chevy on the track... 

And this is not only big talk, because Shelby and Prudhomme are not amateurs who are playing the role of tough guys in this demanding business so, this car have some interesting features that endorse such claims. 

The modifications include: numerous accessories to improve markedly the aerodynamics and aggressive stance, eight-point roll cage, five-point impact safety harness, Borla side exhaust, front and rear adjustable BMR racing suspension, Bogart wheels, drag tires (with optional street tires)... 

Last, but not least, the heart of this beast is the "same" 329 cu in, 5.4 L, V8 DOHC engine, "sweetened" thanks to a Kenne Bell supercharger with modified air intake sticking-out the hood, producing fabulous 800 hp with race fuel or 750 hp with 93 octane pump gas... 

By the way, only 100 replicas were made of this Shelby / Prudhomme brainchild; it was unveiled during a private ceremony at Wally Parks NHRA Motorsport Museum in Pomona, California and auctioned in 2009 by Barret-Jackson in Las Vegas, reaching the not negligible sum of US$ 275,000 (before buyer premium) !!!... 

Sounds very impressive, despite it’s allegedly considered a "primal drag race car" by the "connoisseurs", don’t you think so? =PPPPP... 

I have admired Carroll Shelby, not only by his extraordinary cars, but because he’s a legend himself; he raised a family, he was a successful race car driver since 1952 until 1960 (when serious heart problems, kept him away from the tracks), he designed and built cars and was an independent collaborator of Ford, among other things. 

In that sense, it’s absolutely rational for me, to make room for models he designed, in my collection and that’s why I made my decision on this beautiful diecast, made by his own brand: Shelby Collectibles. 

The model I’m publishing today, is the debut of this brand in my blog and I must say that it deserves all my respect, since its level of quality is among the best I have seen so far. 

According to my experience and knowledge in diecast matters, I can say safely that a model like this, is above brands in the same market segment like: M2Machines, Greenlight, AutoWorld or Racing Champions and it’s even better than competitors ranked higher like: Johnny Lightning, Kyosho, Tomica Limited Vintage / Neo or Minichamps, thanks to its opening features. 

Since it’s not available through the regular channels of distribution (this brand is aimed to collectors, hence it’s not cheap), I got it with the timely help of one of my best friends, fellow collector and importer. 

Albeit I have seen a gradual improvement in the offer of collectibles in my hometown, the variety and availability are still far from what you can find in other markets, where the collectionism culture is mature. 

The model features a full diecast construction (body and chassis), in an excellent mold, full of nice details all around and the right proportion. 

The paint job is another strong point, made in silver with fine metal flake finishing and everything was covered: body, chassis, engine and doors; the tampos in black, white, orange and red are equally great, they include the front signal lights, a pair of fine lines on the hood, the air intakes of the supercharger, the decoration on the side panels, the windshield, the rear view mirrors and the badges on the tail. 

The actual car, nonetheless, has a glossy black paint job, but silver is an usual option for a Shelby anyway. 

The interiors in black were finely detailed, as well as the engine compartment; it has openable hood and doors, plastic inserts for the head and tail lights, the wheels are multipart with realistic chrome rims, styled rubber tires with yellow Goodyear-Eagle tampos and it was made in China. 

The only thing I would add to this collectible, is an acrylic display case, it truly deserves it!...
