El nombre Porsche, ha estado relacionado con una reputación de alto rendimiento y una apariencia distintiva, prácticamente desde la introducción del primer modelo 911, por allá por 1963, cuando otras marcas de autos deportivos estaban ya establecidas y dominando este exclusivo mercado... 

El hecho que el coche que empezó la leyenda de Porsche, como diseñador y fabricante, junto con su hijo Ferdinand "Ferry": el 356, tuviera varios componentes del Volkswagen Escarabajo, es bastante significativo y revelador, con respecto a la vocación futura de los vehículos creados por esta marca... 

He conocido fabricantes de carros que, desde el inicio, desarrollaron y fabricaron autos deportivos, cuyo objetivo principal era ir más rápido que el resto; pero los Porsches pertenecen a una estirpe diferente, una que pone el énfasis en la experiencia del conductor, en vez de simplemente en el coche mismo... 

El Escarabajo es literalmente un "carro para la gente" como el nombre de la marca a la que pertenece implica y el Porsche 911, una especie de descendiente, podría ser definido como un "auto deportivo para la gente" y eso no es poco que decir. 

Sé que establecer un vínculo directo entre el Volkswagen Escarabajo y el Porsche 911, podría sonar algo atrevido o fuera de lugar, principalmente para el nutrido grupo de fanáticos de la marca de Stuttgart, pero la historia me da la razón en más de un sentido. 

Ahora, ¿qué quiero dar a entender con un coche que "pone el énfasis en la experiencia del conductor" y que podría ser definido como un "carro deportivo para la gente", aludiendo al Porsche 911?... 

Bueno, lo creas o no, esto es bastante sencillo: he escuchado y leído varias veces, que el 911, a diferencia de otros autos deportivos de alto desempeño, es un vehículo que puedes manejar a diario; puede ser tu compañero para ir a la tienda de la esquina, sin poner demasiada presión en tu sistema nervioso y más tarde, puedes ir a la pista de carreras, para hacer precisamente esto último... 

El otro rasgo que pone al 911 en una categoría aparte, es su apariencia general; después de más de 50 años, es increíble cuan poco ha cambiado en esencia; debo estar de acuerdo con las personas que piensan que es probablemente el mejor ejemplo de evolución en la industria automotriz (junto con el Escarabajo). 

Este coche deportivo ha crecido con los años, como muchos otros vehículos de diferentes tipologías, con una larga presencia en el mercado de los carros, pero la proporción permanece más o menos igual a la del antiguo y hermoso Porsche 911 del 63. 

Mi invitado para hoy, es un ejemplo relativamente reciente de este ícono alemán del alto rendimiento y el estilo: el Auto Deportivo Premium Porsche 911 (997) Carrera 4S Cabriolet de 2008. 

Otra particularidad de este pura sangre, es su clasificación interna o serie, algo que podemos equiparar con las generaciones sucesivas en otros vehículos y eso es lo que significa la designación 997, producida entre 2004 y 2012. 

El 911 Carrera S4 preserva todo el encanto de su contraparte más vieja, con líneas limpias y curvas sensuales; la carrocería parece fluir alrededor del conductor, sin darte la sensación de masividad; es casi como un traje hecho a medida y esto obviamente añade brillo a la experiencia del conductor. 

Esta bestia civilizada no carece de una buena razón para presionar el acelerador y en esta variante, ofrece un motor de 233.4 pulgadas cúbicas, 3.8 L, Bóxer Plano de 6 Cilindros, clasificado en 355 hp, acoplado ya sea a una transmisión manual de 6 velocidades o una transmisión automática Tiptronic S de 5 velocidades y tracción en las cuatro ruedas disponible, para disfrutar todo el camino... 

Hubo un tiempo cuando pensé que podía coleccionar al menos un modelo en diecast de todas y cada una de las marcas disponibles en este mercado, pero me dí por vencido en dicho propósito, simplemente porque mi presupuesto no es tanto... 

Lo que planeé a cambio, fue conseguir al menos un modelo de las marcas más representativas de diecast, en ciertas escalas, mayoritariamente escalas pequeñas y ahora sé que es un objetivo más realista. 

Mis esfuerzos en ese sentido, me trajeron a una marca de la cual había escuchado antes, pero en escalas más grandes: Paul’s Model Art - Minichamps. 

Esta marca de Aachen, al oeste de Alemania, construyó su reputación desde 1990, cuando Paul-Gunter Lang empezó a producir modelos principalmente de las DTM (Deutschen Tourenwagen Masters - Carreras de Autos Alemanas), manejando su producción externamente y sus procesos de diseño / desarrollo internamente, como era usual en aquella época (y hoy en día). 

Tiene una rango amplio de productos, incluyendo artículos promocionales como: prendas de vestir, artilugios, artículos de oficina; además, vitrinas de exhibición, cascos, figurinas y como podrías esperar, réplicas de vehículos en diferentes escalas (desde 1:6 a 1:160), diferentes tipologías (desde motos hasta camiones) y dos opciones de materiales para la carrocería: resina y diecast. 

No esperaba conseguir ningún modelo de Minichamps, principalmente a causa del punto del precio, que es muy alto para mi gusto (y presupuesto), pero un amigo, colega coleccionista e importador, me ayudó a conseguir el ejemplo que estoy introduciendo en esta publicación, hace más de tres años, por un precio decente y estoy verdaderamente impresionado !!!... 

Minichamps está colocada en el segmento Premium del mercado del diecast, los rivales "naturales" para esta marca, son del calibre de Tomica Limited Vintage / Neo (TLV / N) y Kyosho (también CM’s en términos de realismo, excepto que ellos trabajaron solo con modelos rally y Oversteer) luego, la competencia es ruda, pero no se siente intimidada en lo absoluto. 

Este 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet es otro ejemplo exquisito de excelencia en escala 1:64, pertenece a la Serie Minichamps 64, es una edición limitada de 5.040 unidades a nivel mundial y venía dentro de una caja con ventana, de diseño minimalista. 

El modelo tiene carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico negro, el nivel de detalle es muy alto, aunque parte del chasis luce algo soso; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en azul metalizado, no tiene falla y complementado por tampos precisos en negro y plateado, algunos insertos fotograbados para el escudo de armas de Porsche sobre la tapa de la cajuela (adelante), el logo Carrera S sobre la tapa del motor (en la parte de atrás), el tablero de instrumentos y la consola central; el chasis recibió toques de pintura plateada, donde el motor está colocado y luce muy agradable. 

Hay insertos plásticos para las luces delanteras y de cola, así como para el parabrisas, el cual recibió detalles pintados en azul metalizado, gris y negro; los interiores fueron trabajados en gris y azul, con detalles plateados para el timón, lo mejor que haya visto hasta aquí.  

Las ruedas son multiparte ofreciendo diseño realista de rimes en plateado con acabado de escarcha metálica, ruedas lisas en caucho, incluye una vitrina acrílica con cubierta transparente, presentando el nombre del modelo impreso sobre la base negra, la edición limitada y fue hecho en China...

The name Porsche, has been related with a reputation of high performance and a distinctive appearance, virtually since the introduction of the first 911 model, way back in 1963, when other brands of sports cars were already established and dominating this exclusive market... 

The fact that the car which started the legend of Porsche, as designer and manufacturer, along with his son Ferdinand "Ferry": the 356, had several components of the Volkswagen Beetle, is quite meaningful and telling, regarding the future vocation of the vehicles created by this brand... 

I have known carmakers that, from the start, developed and manufactured sports cars, whose main goal was to go faster than the rest; but the Porsches belong to a different lineage, one that places emphasis in the driver experience, instead of just in the car itself... 

The Beetle is literally "a car for the people" as the name of the brand to which it belongs imply and the Porsche 911, a sort of descendant, could be defined as a "sports car for the people" and that’s not little to say. 

I know that establish a direct link between the Volkswagen Beetle and the Porsche 911, could sound somewhat daring or out of place, mostly for the large group of fans of the brand from Stuttgart, but history gives me reason in more than one sense. 

Now, what I mean with a car that "places emphasis on the driver experience" and that could be defined as a "sports car for the people", alluding to the Porsche 911?... 

Well, believe it of not, that’s pretty straightforward: I have heard and read several times, that the 911, unlike other high performance sports cars, is a vehicle you can drive daily; it can be your mate going to the grocery store, without putting too much pressure on your nervous system and later, you can go to the racetrack, to do precisely the latter... 

The other trait that puts the 911 in a separate category, is its overall appearance; after more than 50 years, it’s incredible how little it has changed in essence; I must agree with the people who think that it’s the probably the best example of evolution in the automotive industry (along with the Beetle). 

This sports car has grown over the years, as many other vehicles of different typologies, with a long presence in the cars market, but the proportion remains pretty much the same to that of the old and beautiful ’63 Porsche 911. 

My guest for today, is a relatively recent example of this german icon of the high performance and style: the 2008 Porsche 911 (997) Carrera 4S Cabriolet - 2+2 Premium Sports Car. 

Another particularity of this thoroughbred, is its internal classification or series, something we can equate with the successive generations in other vehicles and that’s what means the 997 designation, produced between 2004 and 2012. 

The 911 Carrera S4 preserves all the charm of its oldest counterpart, with clean lines and sensuous curves; the bodywork seems to flow around the driver, without giving you the feeling of massiveness, it’s almost like a suit made to order and it obviously adds shine to the driver experience. 

This civilized beast doesn’t lack of a good reason to press the throttle and in this variant, it offers a 233.4 cu in, 3.8 L, Flat 6 Aluminum Boxer engine, rated at 355 hp, coupled either to a 6-speed manual transmission or a Tiptronic S 5-speed automatic transmission and All-Wheel-Drive available, to enjoy all the way... 

There was a time when I thought that I could collect at least one diecast model of each and every brand available in this market, but I gave up in such purpose, just because my budget is not that much... 

What I planned instead, was to get at least one model of the most representative brands of diecast, in certain scales, mostly small scales and now I know that it’s a more realistic goal. 

My efforts in that sense, brought me to a brand of which I had heard before, but in bigger scales: Paul’s Model Art - Minichamps. 

This brand from Aachen, in the west of Germany, built its reputation since 1990, when Paul-Gunter Lang began to produce models mainly of the DTM (Deutschen Tourenwagen Masters - German Auto Racing), managing its production externally and its design/development processes internally, as usual at that time (and nowadays). 

It has a wide range of products, including promotional items like: apparels, gadgets, office items; also, showcases, helmets, figurines and as you could expect, replicas of vehicles in different scales (from 1:6 to 1:160), different typologies (from motorbikes to trucks) and two options of material for the body: resin and diecast. 

I didn’t expect to get any model of Minichamps, mainly because of the price point, that is too high for my taste (and budget), but a friend, fellow collector and importer, helped me to get the sample I’m introducing in this publication, more than three years ago, for a decent price and I’m truly impressed !!!... 

Minichamps is placed in the Premium segment of the diecast market, the "natural" rivals for this brand, are of the caliber of Tomica Limited Vintage / Neo (TLV / N) and Kyosho (also CM’s in terms of realism, except that they worked only with rally models and Oversteer) so, the competition is tough; but it doesn’t feel intimidated at all. 

This 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet is another exquisite example of excellence in 1:64 scale, it belongs to the Minichamps 64 Series, it’s a limited edition of 5,040 unit worldwide and it came inside a window box, of minimalistic design. 

The model has diecast body and black plastic chassis, the level of detail is very high, albeit part of the chassis looks rather dull; the paint job was made in metallic blue, it’s flawless and complemented by accurate tampos in black and silver, some photo-etched inserts for the Porsche coat of arms on the trunk lid (in front), the Carrera S logo on the engine cover (in the back), the dashboard and the central console; the chassis received silver touches of paint, where the engine is placed and it looks very nice. 

There are plastic inserts for the head and tail lights, as well as for the winshield, which received painted details in metallic blue, gray and black; the interiors were worked in gray and blue, with silver details for the steering wheel, the best I have seen so far.  

The wheels are multipart offering realistic rims design in silver with metal flake finishing, rubber slicks, it includes an acrylic showcase with clear cover, featuring the name of the model printed on the black base, the limited edition and it was made in China...
