Realmente no creo...
ENGLISH While Ford still remains as the indisputable leader of the pickup trucks industry, particularly but not exclusively for the market of the United States, it’s not less true that other players have had their brilliant moments too...
A close competition wouldn’t be so close without worthy contenders and the Northamerican market is a good "thermometer" of what other carmakers have been doing to dethrone the queen of this segment...
Because, well, the competition there is savage and it’s there as well where you have probably the widest variety of models and trims when it comes to pickups, some of them with a price tag that doesn’t have anything to envy to that of a midsize luxury sedan or a capable sports car.
That’s what you expect in a business that generates big money for the automotive industry, so much that there is enough to share with car brands like: Toyota, Nissan, Renault, Volkswagen or Honda, which are not associated with this typology of vehicles so often.
Not only Ford and General Motors have been fighting for the leadership of this profitable market, Chrysler (currently part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), with its Dodge and Fargo brands, has been quite involved too.
In the particular case of Dodge, it has been developing its own pickup trucks since 1925, when this company bought Graham Brothers, another automotive company that previously manufactured pickups with its own bodies, on chassis made by Dodge; I mean, Dodge has been manufacturing pickups since it was an independent company.
Later, the business of John and Horace Dodge (descendants of immigrants from England), Dodge Brothers, was acquired by Chrysler in 1928 and by that time, De Soto and Plymouth, as well as Chrysler, were already brands managed by Chrysler Corporation.
It was decided that a line of commercial trucks, including pickups with the Fargo brand, based on Plymouth and De Soto products, mainly for foreign markets, would be offered alongside with Dodge trucks.
Precisely, my guest for this publication is part of the third generation of Ram pickups, made previously as part of Dodge products: the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4WD Short Bed Superlift Custom, a Full Size Class 2a -1/2 Ton- Light Duty Pickup Truck...
Since the second generation of this model, introduced in 1994, which was an extraordinary sales success, the Ram has been particularly associated with a "macho" style, quite "truckish" and it has been a sort of trait or singularity of this line of light and medium duty trucks.
I said ‘sort of trait or singularity’, because the overall exterior design has been softened, mainly for the not so commercial trucks and that’s a widespread trend, because other carmakers have been doing the same.
The reason behind such a trend is that pickup trucks are becoming vehicles increasingly associated with luxury, lifestyle and the softened lines of the current pickups are aimed to more sophisticated buyers; but don’t be fooled, these trucks have serious power inside too!...
If there is something I have supported in my blog and there are many reviews to prove it, specially those related with products made by Hot Wheels, is the work of designers, not just for professional loyalty (since I’m a professional graphic designer), but because their work really makes the difference...
When we are talking about toy cars and Hot Wheels is essentially about toy cars, not about models for adult collectors, like its marketing campaigns pretend to establish; that was actually a collateral result, that collectors generated around this brand, NOT Mattel; but because of the work of designers, this synergy between HW products and collectors was made possible...
Do you think Hot Wheels would be what it’s today without the work of: Ira Gilford, Larry Wood, Phil Riehlman, Alec and Paul Tam, Mark Jones, Fraser Campbell, Brendon Vetuskey, Ryu Asada, Gary Saffer and many others, in the development of castings and decorations?...
Perhaps in a future publication I will deepen a bit more on this subject, but just to prove this point: Hot Wheels would be the same without the Volkswagen Drag Bus, ’56 Ford Truck, Mini Cooper, La Troca, Custom Chevy ’69, ’55 Chevy Panel, Blown Delivery, just to name a few castings developed by Phil Riehlman?...
I really don’t think so...
This guy took risks, because, for instance, HW executives were never happy with models that offered heavy full diecast construction for the Mainline; Phil somehow made possible precisely that kind of things and collectors appreciated those efforts, making this brand more popular: if it were only up to finance executives, those models would never, ever see the light as products for sale...
This time I’m introducing one of his developments, the Dodge Ram 1500, which had its debut in 2007, for the Mainline; it has had at least 22 iterations, all of them in the Regular category and it’s one of those models that makes the difference, because it has 5 parts and good level of detail for a toy car.
The model was lifted substantially and its bed offers a tonneau cover, that you can open to see a protuberant sound and/or pneumatic suspension system, a feature that, as you should expect from the brand of the flaming logo, was removed for 2014, retooling the mold to offer a standard and kind of boring bed (that obviously is less expensive to produce).
I got mine in the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer, more than 7 years ago; the model belongs to the 2010 HW Performance Series, part of the Mainline; it has diecast body, black plastic chassis (the plastic tonneau cover is black too).
The paint job was made in white with pearled finishing, complemented by tampos and/or decals for the side panels and the hood, in black, gray, white and yellow (the graphic designers were generous!); I included some painted touches for the front lights and grille, also for the rear stop on the roof and the tail lights, that enhance its realism.
The interiors for this model were worked in golden chrome, with smoked windows; the plastic wheels feature Off-Road 5 Spoke rims design in golden chrome and it was made in Malaysia...
Rom 3:1-9 "What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of GOD. For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of GOD without effect? GOD forbid: yea, let GOD be true, but every man a liar; as it is written: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of GOD, what shall we say? Is GOD unrighteous who taketh vengeance? I (speak as a man) GOD forbid: for then how shall GOD judge the world? For if the truth of GOD hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner? And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just. What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin..."
“Dethroned the queen” so who’s the king lolz... The diecast is given a royalty treatment with so chrome and its royal status will be pardon from tinted windscreens traffic regulation. I like how the canvas open on the rear.
So far this is a matriarchy, pal, because the second place in sales worldwide is for SUVs, LOL!... A saying says: "for tastes there are colors and flavors", and some collectors just don’t like golden chrome finishes, they find them kind of tacky and I would say that gold is a color you should use carefully, but is a color that looks great in certain applications, for instance, in this truck is showy, but fine; after all, moderation in a lifted truck is something artificial... And well, I love gimmicks and extras and this toy truck give me just that!...

My alternate blog in WordPress
From now, I will be publishing basically the same contents in both blogs, but for reviews before March 18, 2019, you must read my Blogger blog...
I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
