Quizás la Serie de TV "Los Dukes de Hazzard" no es algo familiar para muchas personas en algunas regiones del mundo, a pesar de su enorme popularidad cuando fue transmitida originalmente en EE.UU., entre 1979 y 1985, sus repeticiones posteriores y eso está bien... 

Los íconos de la cultura popular de la TV y otros medios masivos, son significativos mayoritariamente para personas de países donde estas series son producidas y transmitidas por primera vez, y su impacto puede ser bastante diferente en otros países, simplemente porque sus contenidos son creados con un contexto particular en mente y para una audiencia particular / local principalmente... 

En cuanto a mí, bueno, esta serie es significativa, a pesar que no soy de los Estados Unidos, pero en mi tierra natal, Colombia (Suramérica), fue emitida a finales de los 80s y te lo puedo asegurar: Los Dukes de Hazzard fue bastante popular, todavía es recordada con nostalgia, afecto, por muchos, incluyendo el que habla contigo ahora mismo, fue parte de mis años mozos. 

Mis recuerdos sobre esta serie son grandiosos, me divertí un montón mirándola, empacaba todo los que esperas de una "típica" serie de TV de los 80s: ligera en drama y trama, pero pesada en acción, piruetas y persecuciones en autos, desobediencia; quiero decir, incluso la banda sonora (que identifiqué como música country años más tarde) y el acento singular de los personajes (que fue probablemente una versión exagerada del acento sureño en EE.UU., y obviamente escuché el doblaje español hecho en México), ¡fueron bastante pegajosos!... 

Creo que aún hoy en día disfrutaría Los Dukes de Hazzard casi tanto como lo hice antes, porque sé como adulto qué esperar de series de TV como esa, tiene esa especie de ingenuidad, desparpajo y picardía de los 80s así que, no puedo entender (en cierto sentido) que haya personas de la izquierda, con respecto a asuntos políticos, que consideran esta producción una "apología al racismo, machismo" y cosas por el estilo... 

Sabes, esta gente del ala izquierda o, para ser más preciso, aquellos que creen en ser "políticamente correcto" (léase: ser hipócrita y banal) quieren estar ofendidos por cualquiera o por cualquier cosa, simplemente porque es más fácil escandalizarse o crear controversia por nimiedades, que hacer algo en realidad para cambiar lo que está mal en este mundo, empezando por nosotros mismos y nuestro comportamiento torcido luego, bueno, las series de TV pueden ser un blanco de sus frívolos ataques también... 

Ahora, dejando a un lado esa sensibilidad, fuera de lugar por supuesto, la Serie Los Dukes de Hazzard ha tenido un éxito tremendo y, de hecho, a finales de los 90s, cuando tuvo una repetición en la Red Nashville, llegó a ser el programa con la más alta sintonía y una película para TV fue producida: Los Dukes de Hazzard: La Reunión! de 1997. 

Como parte del "reparto" de esta cinta (por así decirlo y explicaré luego porqué), mi invitado para esta publicación tuvo un rol: el Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 KR de 1968, un Coupé 2 Puertas Fastback de Tamaño Mediano Pony Car / Muscle Car / Auto Deportivo. 

Este vehículo, apodado simplemente "00 Mustang", fue introducido en una carrera de coches sobre tierra, arreglada para determinar si Mama Josephine Maxx (una embaucadora inmobiliaria) agarraría el pantano de Hazzard, con el fin de construir un parque temático; fue el contendor del General Lee (incluí un par de videos presentando la secuencia de la carrera sobre tierra y el carro real usado en la película, con su dueño actual, respectivamente). 

Debo decir que luce realmente increíble, especialmente junto al General Lee y apenas noté un pequeño detalle: 00 contra 01, debe haber una especie de mensaje subliminal allí, ¿no lo crees?... 

Hay al menos otra razón por qué Los Dukes de Hazzard es significativa para mí: si no fuera por esta Serie de TV y los primeros modelos en diecast hechos por Johnny Lightning que conseguí, como coleccionista adulto (presentados en esta sesión de fotos, junto al 00 Mustang), probablemente no estaría involucrado con los modelos en diecast tanto como lo estoy actualmente y habría continuado con mis otros coleccionables, muy felizmente de hecho... 

Pero no me tomes a mal, no me arrepiento de tener modelos en diecast en mi colección, en absoluto; más bien, gracias a los modelos en diecast he retornado de alguna manera a mi infancia y disfruto más aún mis otros coleccionables (que incluyen: model kits, juguetes de diseñador, figuras de acción, estatuas, unos pocos LEGOs y otras cosas, y a propósito, ¡retornarán a mi blog en el futuro cercano, finalmente, si DIOS permite!)... 

Vale la pena mencionar que la licencia para producir modelos en diecast de Los Dukes de Hazzard fue manejada por Racing Champions, Johnny Lightning, Auto World, también por las marcas ahora extintas ERTL y Joyride (todas ellas relacionadas en algún punto de su historia) y hasta donde sé, Hot Wheels (Mattel) quería una "tajada del pastel", pero afortunadamente no ha sido lograda una negociación... 

Dije afortunadamente, porque Hot Wheels ha estado ofreciendo artículos sobrevaluados, particularmente desde la segunda década del presente siglo o incluso antes, y si añadimos los costos extra debidos a la intervención de estos parásitos conocidos como acaparadores / especuladores, bueno, nadie con dos dedos de frente quiere en este mercado coleccionables demasiado caros y con una calidad que no está acorde con su alto precio, encima de eso: gracias pero NO, gracias... 

No he escuchado acerca de nuevos acuerdos de licencia entre Warner Bros. Consumer Products (propietaria de los derechos para producir mercadería de la franquicia) y las marcas propiedad actualmente de TOMY / Takara, con el fin de producir más réplicas en diecast inspiradas en el programa de TV y ahora, con el absurdo veto a la bandera confederada, porque se convirtió en un "símbolo contemporáneo de divisividad y racismo" (te reto a que adivines quién está detrás de este veto y la simbología contemporánea acompañante, pero no mires tan rápido a la izquierda, que pretende ignorar una parte fea de la historia, pero solo para guardar las apariencias... Por favor), es muy poco probable ver productos basados en el General Lee original pronto... 

Conseguí el modelo introducido para esta reseña en el mercado secundario, con ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador, hace más de 7 años y me alegro de haberlo hecho en el momento correcto, porque hoy en día este artículo es genuinamente difícil de encontrar y, por lo tanto, es caro, aunque no tanto como el General Lee, de seguro. 

La réplica pertenece a la Serie The Dukes of Hazzard de 2007, compuesta por 6 modelos y está inspirado por un coche muy similar presentado en la Película para TV The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion! de 1997; pero aquí viene la aclaración: el modelo usado en la cinta estaba basado en realidad en un Ford Mustang GT de 1967 / 1968, conducido por Kam Cutler, un piloto de carreras en la película. 

Es algo raro que Johnny Lightning usara el molde del Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 KR de 1968, porque esta marca tiene el molde del Ford Mustang GT de 1967 / 1968 también, el cual sería más fiel al auto real; pero supongo que JL pensó que un Shelby Mustang GT500 KR sería un mejor contendor para el General Lee, además luce mucho mejor con el disfraz del 00 Mustang y tengo que estar de acuerdo con eso. 

Este producto fue hecho durante la era Learning Curve Brands Inc., la compañía estaba relacionada con RC2 Corporation y Playing Mantis; la presentación era un clamshell incluyendo una tarjeta, impresa a todo color y el logo de los Dukes de Hazzard en relieve, un empaque excelente debo decir, como es usual en una marca Premium. 

Tiene construcción completa en diecast con gran nivel de detalle a todo alrededor; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en azul rey oscuro con rico acabado metalizado, complementado por una decoración muy precisa, incluyendo llamas pinza de cangrejo al frente, hecha con tampos y/o calcomanías, e incluso más tampos sobre prácticamente todos los paneles de la carrocería, excepto el techo, para las molduras de las ventanas, luces frontales y de cola, parrilla frontal, bómperes frontales y traseros, emblemas Shelby Cobra, 00 en las puertas, emblema Shelby en la cola, ¡es una réplica maravillosa!... 

El modelo ofrece ventanas transparentes y los interiores fueron trabajados en negro; las ruedas son multiparte presentando diseño de rimes Cragar (no son fieles a los usados en el coche real, pero lucen mucho mejores, de nuevo) con acabado cromado y llantas labradas en caucho; finalmente, como bonus una foto autoadhesiva presentando una imagen en color de la hermosa Catherine Bach se incluyó y fue hecho en China...

Perhaps the TV Series "The Dukes of Hazzard" is not something familiar for many people in some regions of the world, despite its huge popularity when it was broadcasted originally in U.S., between 1979 and 1985, its later reruns and that’s fine... 

Pop culture icons from TV and other mass media, are significant mostly for people from countries where these series are produced and aired for the first time, and its impact can be quite different in other countries, just because their contents are created with a particular context in mind and for a particular / local audience mainly... 

As for me, well, this series is significant, despite I’m not from United States, but in my homeland, Colombia (South America), its was broadcasted in the late 80s and I can assure you: The Dukes of Hazzard was quite popular, it’s still remembered with nostalgia, affection, by many, including the one who speaks to you right now, it was part of my younger years. 

My memories about this series are great, I had a lot of fun watching it, it packed everything you expect from a "typical" 80’s TV series: light on drama and plot, but heavy on action, car stunts and chases, naughtiness; I mean, even the soundtrack (that I identified as country music years later) and the singular accent of the characters (that was probably an exaggerated version of the southern accent in U.S., and obviously I heard the Spanish dubbing made in Mexico), were pretty catchy!... 

I think that even nowadays I would enjoy The Dukes of Hazzard almost as much as I did before, because I know as adult what to expect from TV series like that, it has that sort of naivety, impudence and craftiness of the 80s so, I just can’t believe (in a certain sense) that there are people of the left side, regarding political affairs, who consider this production an "apology to racism, machismo" and things like that... 

You know, these people of the left wing or, to be more precise, those who believe in being "politically correct" (read: being hypocritical and banal) want to be offended by anyone or anything, just because it’s easier to be scandalized or create controversy for trifles, than to actually do something to change what’s wrong in this world, starting by ourselves and our crooked behavior so, well, TV series can be target of their trumpery attacks too... 

Now, leaving aside that sensitivity, out of place of course, The Dukes of Hazzard Series has had a tremendous success and, in fact, in the late 90s, when it had a rerun on the Nashville Network, it became the highest-rated show on air and a movie for TV was produced: 1997 The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion!

As part of the "cast" of this movie (so to say and I will explain later why), my guest for this publication had a role: the 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 KR, a Midsize 2-Door Fastback Coupe Pony Car / Muscle Car / Sports Car. 

This vehicle, dubbed simply "00 Mustang", was introduced in an overland car race, arranged for determining if Mama Josephine Maxx (a real estate trickster) would take a hold of Hazzard swamp, in order to build a theme park; it was the General Lee contender (I included a pair of videos featuring the overland race sequence and the actual car used in the movie, with its current owner, respectively). 

I must say that it looks really awesome, specially along with the General Lee and I barely noticed a small detail: 00 against 01, there must be a sort of subliminal message there, don’t you think so?... 

There is at least another reason why The Dukes of Hazzard is significant for me: if it weren’t for this TV Series and the first diecast models made by Johnny Lightning I got, as adult collector (featured in this photoshoot, along with the 00 Mustang), probably I wouldn’t be involved with diecast models as much as I do currently and I would have continued with my other collectibles, very happily in fact... 

But don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret having diecast models in my collection, at all; rather, thanks to diecast models I have returned somehow to my infancy and I enjoy even more my other collectibles (that include: model kits, designer toys, action figures, statues, a few LEGOs and other stuff, and by the way, they will return to my blog in the near future, finally, if GOD allows!)... 

It’s worth mentioning that The Dukes of Hazzard license to produce diecast models was managed by Racing Champions, Johnny Lightning, Auto World, also by the now extinct brands ERTL and Joyride (all of them related at some point of their history) and as far as I know, Hot Wheels (Mattel) wanted a "slice of that cake", but fortunately a negotiation has not been achieved... 

I said fortunately, because Hot Wheels has been offering overpriced items to collectors, particularly since the second decade of the present century or even before, and if we have to add extra costs due to the intervention of these parasites known as hoarders / scalpers, well, nobody with half a brain wants in this market collectibles too expensive and with a quality that is not consistent with their high price, on top of that: thanks but NO, thanks... 

I have not heard about new agreements of license between Warner Bros. Consumer Products (owner of the rights to produce merchandise of the franchise) and the brands currently property of TOMY / Takara, in order to produce more diecast replicas inspired by the TV show and now, with the absurd ban on the Confederate flag, because it became a "contemporary symbol of divisiveness and racism" (I dare you to guess who’s behind that ban and the accompanying contemporary symbology, but don’t look so quick to the left, that pretends to ignore an ugly part of the history, but only to keep up appearances... Please), it’s very unlikely to see products based on the original General Lee soon... 

I got the model introduced for this review in the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer, more than 7 years ago and I’m glad I did it at the right time, because nowadays this item is genuinely hard to find and hence, it’s expensive, although not as much as the General Lee, for sure. 

The replica belongs to the 2007 The Dukes of Hazzard, comprised by 6 models and it’s inspired by a very similar car featured in the 1997 The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion! Movie For TV; but here comes the clarification: the model used in the movie was actually based on a 1967 / 1968 Ford Mustang GT, driven by Kam Cutler, a racing pilot in the movie. 

It’s kind of weird that Johnny Lightning used the 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 KR casting, because this brand has the 1967 / 1968 Ford Mustang GT casting as well, which would be more faithful to the actual car; but I guess JL thought that a Shelby Mustang GT500 KR would be a better contender for the General Lee, besides it looks much better with the 00 Mustang costume and I have to agree with that. 

This product was made during the Learning Curve Brands Inc. era, the company was related with RC2 Corporation and Playing Mantis; the presentation was a clamshell including a card, printed in full color and The Dukes of Hazzard logo embossed, an excellent packaging I must say, as usual with this Premium brand. 

It has full diecast construction with great level of detail all around; the paint job was made in dark royal blue with rich metallic finishing, complemented by a very accurate decoration, including crabclaw flames in front, made with tampos and/or decals, and even more tampos on virtually all the panels of the body, except the roof, for the windows moldings, front and tail lights, front grille, front and rear bumpers, Shelby Cobra emblems, 00 on the doors, Shelby emblem on the tail, it’s a wonderful replica!... 

The model offers clear windows and the interiors were worked in black; the wheels are multipart featuring Cragar rims design (not faithful to the ones in the actual car, but they look much better, again) with chrome finishing and styled rubber tires; finally, a bonus photo sticker featuring an image in color of the beautiful Catherine Bach was included and it was made in China...
