¿Cuándo fue la última vez que consideraste que trabajar como mensajero era un logro en tu vida o que con esta labor estarías contribuyendo al progreso y bienestar de la sociedad a tu alrededor?... 

Poner los bienes que la industria y la agricultura producen, en las manos de aquellos que los necesitan o quieren, los consumidores, ha sido un eslabón crucial en la cadena de la economía mundial por siglos y hasta ahora, este hecho no ha cambiado en lo absoluto... 

Con todo, la gente en general tiende a ver esta labor con cierto desdén, parece que nadie quiere ser relacionado con una actividad tan humilde y básica, no parece algo que quieras incluir en tu currículo como experiencia valiosa... 

Para añadir a este "estigma" arbitrario, las personas que trabajan en el negocio de las entregas, quiero decir, aquellos que hacen el trabajo duro, no son bien pagados en muchos casos, porque el dinero se queda en las manos de aquellos en las posiciones más altas, justo como ocurre en muchos otros segmentos económicos. 

Sin embargo, es en situaciones de crisis (fabricadas o reales), como la que estamos padeciendo estos días, en la cual estamos prácticamente bloqueados en nuestras casas y dependemos para muchas cosas en estos hombres y mujeres humildes trabajando en la industria de la logística, que entendemos cuán importante son esas actividades básicas... 

Y si no queremos entender, quizás sería mejor saber que esta situación parece que no cambiará en el corto o mediano plazo. 

Algo similar, quiero decir, esta especie de "estigma", sucede con los vehículos creados para estas tareas, también conocidos como caballos de trabajo: medios de transporte humildes, básicos, sin pretensiones que difícilmente reciben aprecio en la mayoría de círculos de "conocedores" en los asuntos del mundo automotor, simplemente porque no son tan "refinados" o "hermosos" como los autos lujosos o deportivos. 

No obstante, si miramos a los vehículos desde la perspectiva de cuánto contribuyen con nuestro bienestar de una forma concreta y real, bueno, los coches de lujo o deportivos son solo medios para complacer nuestros caprichos mundanos, nuestro ego, son vanidades en un sentido profundo y el beneficio que producen es meramente subjetivo, mientras que los caballos de trabajo sí satisfacen necesidades tangibles y en ese sentido, son mucho más dignos de nuestra admiración y aprecio, justo como las personas que trabajan con ellos... 

Por eso es que siempre habrá lugar para los caballos de trabajo en mi colección y por supuesto, en este blog; estoy bastante seguro que merecen más respeto y trato de darles exactamente eso así que, hoy estoy introduciendo representantes de uno de estos vehículos y un acompañante muy improbable que está relacionado en más de un sentido... 

Mis invitados son 4 ejemplos de un antiguo vehículo utilitario: el Ford Modelo B Sedán Delivery de 1932, una Vagoneta Utilitaria Liviana / Panel de Entregas Compacta (de Tamaño Completo) 2 Puertas, que fue parte de las opciones disponibles para ese año en la alineación del icónico Ford Modelo B... 

Este carro de juguete fue desarrollado por nadie menos que el famoso Larry Wood y lanzado por primera vez en 1989, para la categoría Regular (Línea Principal), pero también ha sido parte de líneas Adultas; con al menos 49 iteraciones, diría que ha visto algún uso, pero desde 2014 no ha sido visto de nuevo. 

Y no está solo, como supongo que has notado ya, porque incluí un modelo de diseñador / conceptual / de fantasía u original de Hot Wheels, llamado Midnight Otto, diseñado por Gary Saffer y si estás familiarizado con los autos de los 30s, sabrás que está basado en el Ford Modelo B de 1932 en su versión Sedán 2 Puertas; con al menos 26 iteraciones, 6 de ellas para líneas Adultas y el resto para líneas Regulares. 

Conseguí todos ellos en el mercado secundario, con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador, hace más de 7 años; estos moldes se complementan muy bien y muestran claramente como los modelos de diseñador / conceptuales / de fantasía u originales no son demasiado diferentes a los coches reales en muchos casos; además no hay un solo carro real que no haya empezado como un auto conceptual, ninguno. 

Ambos modelos tiene construcción completa en diecast, pero en el caso del Ford Delivery del 32, toda la sección de los guardafangos fue hecha en plástico, como parte del mismo molde de los interiores, con todo todavía se sienten pesados en la mano y la pesadez es importante en los coches de juguete en diecast (no tanto en los modelos Premium, aunque es deseable), en el caso del Midnight Otto, el chasis plástico con frente modificado fue introducido en 2009. 

Hay una buena variedad de trabajos de pintura en el Ford Delivery, que van desde azul claro metalizado, a negro, a azul oscuro metalizado, a dorado con acabado Metalflake y acabando con blanco perlado para el Midnight Otto; las decoraciones son variadas también, con 3 ejemplos abigarrados y 1 muy limpio para el Ford (el que más me gusta) y la decoración moderna y pulcra del Midnight. 

Todos los Ford presentan ventanas transparentes, la ventana frontal luce mal porque el pilar superior es demasiado grueso, con interiores en negro, verde, blanco y negro respectivamente, incluyen un inserto para la parrilla y luces frontales, con acabado cromado, una muy buena adición, mientras el Midnight tiene ventanas ennegrecidas y sin interiores, eso es una completa vergüenza. 

La selección de diseños de rimes para las ruedas plásticas es: dos Lace Wheels Wire Spoke, dos 5 Spoke para el Ford Delivery del 32 y Phil Riehlman 5 Spoke para el Midnight Otto; con respecto a su proveniencia, bueno, los primeros 2 Ford fueron hechos en Malasia, los siguientes fueron hechos en Tailandia y el Midnight fue hecho en Malasia...

When was the last time you considered that working as delivery courier was an achievement in your life or that with this labor you would be contributing to the progress and welfare of the society around you?... 

Put the goods that the industry and farming produce, in the hands of those who need or want them, the consumers, has been a crucial link in the chain of the world economy for centuries and until now, this fact has not changed at all... 

Yet, people in general tend to see this labor with certain disdain, it seems like nobody wants to be related with such a humble and basic activity, it doesn’t seem like something you want to include in your resume as valuable experience... 

To add to this arbitrary "stigma", people who work in the delivery business, I mean, those who do the hard job, are not well paid in many cases, because the money stays in the hands of those in higher positions, just like happens in many other economic segments. 

However, it’s in situations of crisis (manufactured o real), like the one we are enduring these days, in which we are virtually locked down in our houses and we depend for many things of these humble men and women working in the logistics industry, that we start to understand how important are those basic activities... 

And if we don’t want to understand, perhaps it would be better to know that this situation seems that will not change in the short or medium term. 

Something similar, I mean, this sort of "stigma", happens with the vehicles created for these tasks, also known as workhorses: humble, basic, unpretentious means of transportation that hardly receive appreciation in most circles of "connoisseurs" in the matters of the automotive world, just because they are not as "refined" or "beautiful" as luxury or sports cars. 

Nonetheless, if we look at vehicles from the perspective of how much do they contribute with our welfare in a concrete and real way, well, luxury and sports cars are just means to please our worldly whims, our ego, they’re vanities in a deep sense and the benefit they produce is merely subjective, while workhorses do fulfill tangible needs and in that sense, are much more worthy of our admiration and appreciation, just like the people who work with them... 

That’s why there will always be place for workhorses in my collection and of course, in this blog; I’m pretty sure that they deserve more respect and I try to give them exactly that so, today I’m introducing representatives of one of these vehicles and a very unlikely companion that is related in more ways than one... 

My guests are 4 examples of an old utility vehicle: the 1932 Ford Model B Sedan Delivery, a Compact (Full Size) 2-Door Light Utility Van / Panel Delivery, that was part of the options available for that year in the lineup of the iconic Ford Model B... 

This toy car was developed by no other than the famous Larry Wood and released for the first time in 1989, for the Regular category (Mainline), but it also has been part of Adult lines; with at least 49 iterations, I would say it has seen some use, but since 2014 it has not been seen again. 

And it’s not alone, as I guess you have noticed already, because I included a designer / concept / fantasy or original model by Hot Wheels, named Midnight Otto, designed by Gary Saffer and if you’re familiar with the cars from the 30s, you will know that it was based on the 1932 Ford Model B in its 2-Doors Sedan version, with at least 26 iterations, 6 of them for Adult lines and the rest for Regular lines. 

I got all of them in the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer more than 7 years ago; these molds complement each other very well and show clearly how concept designer / concept / fantasy or original models are not too different to actual cars in many cases; besides, there is not a single car that has not started as concept car, none. 

Both models feature full diecast construction, but in the case of the ’32 Ford Delivery, all the fenders section was made in plastic, as part of the same mold of the interiors, yet they still feel heavy in hand and heaviness is important in diecast toy cars (not so much in Premium adult models, although it is desirable), in the case of the Midnight Otto, the plastic chassis with modified front was introduced in 2009. 

There is a good variety of paint jobs in the Ford Delivery, ranging from metallic light blue, to black, to metallic dark blue, to golden with Metalflake finishing and ending with pearled white for the Midnight Otto; the decorations are varied too, with 3 motley examples and 1 very clean for the Ford (the one I like the most) and the modern and neat decoration for the Midnight. 

All the Ford feature clear windows, the front window looks bad because the upper pillar is too thick, with interiors in black, green, white and black respectively, they include an insert for the front grille and lights, with chrome finishing, a very good addition, while the Midnight has blacked windows and no interiors, that’s a complete shame. 

The selection of rims design for the plastic wheels is: two Lace Wheels Wire Spoke, two 5 Spoke for the ’32 Ford Delivery and Phil Riehlman 5 Spoke for the Midnight Otto; regarding their provenance, well, the first 2 Ford were made in Malaysia, the next ones were made in Thailand and the Midnight was made in Malaysia...
