ENGLISH To be honest, I didn’t understand very well the attractive or convenience of manufacturing a car illegal for the streets or specifically made for the tracks, a relatively recent concept developed almost exclusively by car brands in the segment of exotic sports cars...
Let’s face it: exotic sports cars have been always in a deep sense an ego-token, something their owners want to show proudly on any occasion that comes their way, because they represent status, refinement, taste for speed and avant-garde styling, economic solvency (sometimes only the latter), hence, the streets are their natural catwalk...
Accordingly, an exotic sports car you can’t display ostentatiously to a horde of bystanders doesn’t seem to be particularly "useful" for those who want to project a dandy image, but then there are those who want to squeeze the juice of these beasts and apparently don’t give a damn about the blandishment of people uneducated in the charms of motoring.
Since the 00s, there has been an increasing demand for higher performance vehicles based on acclaimed exotic sports cars and a significant amount of these requests come from privateers (private racing teams), whose goal is to keep the costs involved in professional racing in the reasonable side of the spectrum.
That’s one of the main reasons behind the development of my guest for this publication: the 2004 Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT, a 2-Door Fastback Coupe (Berlinetta) Sports Car / Super Car / Racing Car, based on the "regular" Murcielago which was introduced in 2001, as the first creation by the new administration / owner: Volkswagen.
In fact, we are not talking about a "mere" track-only car, but about a racing-ready car, that apart from being the answer to the clamor of privateers and up to a point, also from speed buffs outside the professional racing, it became the perfect tool to promote Lamborghini as a capable contender in GT competitions.
It’s not a secret that the brand of the raging bull has been systematically relegated from the world of motorsports, but that has been changing precisely due to vehicles like the Murcielago R-GT, that was developed by Lamborghini, with the help Audi Sports and the additional expertise of Reiter Engineering, in order to comply with regulations for FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile - Automobile International Federation, by its acronym in French) GT1 Class, ALMS (American Le Mans Series) GTS Class and eventually for Japanese Super GT Series, with a version known as RG-1...
While Kyosho was not the first brand for which I knew that the Premium segment and in a wider sense, the segment of true adult collectibles regarding vehicle models existed, Johnny Lightning is the one to blame for that, this Japanese brand of diecast has been a great source of enjoyment and a revelation about another aspect of the culture of collectionism in the land of the raising sun...
In a previous review that you can read here, related with Kyosho, some curiosities of the Japanese market are mentioned, specially in the case of models around the 1:64 scale, from certain brands of the Premium segment, which have or had their own dynamics, where the barter is a very usual practice to get the model you want for your collection...
What I love about barter is how it shows in a simple way the complete irrationality of speculation, because a trade is made only based on the value perceived between two items that could be very different in nature, but equivalent due to their intrinsic features and/or usefulness, any other consideration is actually irrelevant then, rigged sales pitches or payments in excess are discouraged by sheer logic...
I got this model, obviously, in the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer, more than 4 years ago and as it’s always my premise, at a reasonable price.
While I don’t think I have learned everything you could know about this hobby, I know this for sure: those who know, namely, collectors, pay what’s fair for their collectibles, those who don’t, namely, mere buyers, pay whatever someone wants to charge...
It has diecast body and black plastic chassis, somehow replicating what you find in larger scales (1:43, 1:18), but it’s a different approach to that of Tomica Limited Vintage / Tomytec, not in terms of quality, but in terms of materials.
The paint job was made in silver with fine metal flake finishing (the other options were yellow and satin black), it’s complemented by tampos and/or decals for the front Lamborghini coat of arms, front and rear air intakes, front and side windows moldings, as well as the rear louver for the engine cover.
There are plastic inserts for the front, tail lights and rear wing (the latter is considerably larger, since this is a racing car in street disguise, literally); the interiors were worked in black, fairly detailed and include the mandatory safety cage; the wheels are multipart, featuring realistic and accurate O.Z. Racing 15 Spoke rims design in silver and styled rubber tires; a display base in black is part of the package, featuring the name of the model printed in silver as well as a special trading card printed in full color and it was made in China...
Ezk 23:17-24 "And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them. So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister. Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt. For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses. Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in bruising thy teats by the Egyptians for the paps of thy youth. Therefore, O Aholibah, thus saith the LORD GOD: behold, I will raise up thy lovers against thee, from whom thy mind is alienated, and I will bring them against thee on every side; the Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and renowned, all of them riding upon horses. And they shall come against thee with chariots, wagons, and wheels, and with an assembly of people, which shall set against thee buckler and shield and helmet round about: and I will set judgment before them, and they shall judge thee according to their judgments."
What a brand that you don’t usually featured. Really premium and I support Japanese toys : ) Lamborghini is indeed too OP on common street. This is certainly showy and the design itself is already so stunning that any plain colour is sufficient. No need for any decal or even the spoiler.
Yeah pal, actually there is always a different way to see a brand of collectibles, not only in terms of its history or the features of its products, but also in terms of the concept behind it and Kyosho is no exception... This cars is genuinely a stunner, it looks imposing, menacing and it surely has the performance to support that look... As far as I know, there was available a kit to modify a "regular" Murcielago in order to make it similar in appearance to the R-GT, but the R-GT itself was not legal for the street and I totally agree with you, the car looks awesome even without racing livery!...

From now, I will be publishing basically the same contents in both blogs, but for reviews before March 18, 2019, you must read my Blogger blog...
I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
