Mucho antes que Auto Avio Costruzioni, algunos años más tarde conocida como Auto Costruzioni Ferrari o simplemente Ferrari fuera algo, cualquier cosa, una idea, hubo varias marcas de autos fabricando diferentes clases de vehículos en Italia, para diferentes segmentos del mercado automotor en este país...
Podría mencionar, en orden alfabético: APIS, Bianchi, Cantono, Diatto, Esperia, Fiat, Ghia, Isotta Fraschini, Junior, Lancia, Maserati, Nazzaro, Officine Meccaniche, Pininfarina, Rapid, Scirea, Taurinia, Vagi, Zust, entre muchas otras compañías, algunas de ellas son muy bien conocidas, otras son completas extrañas, algunas de ellas aún están con nosotros hasta el día presente, algunas de ellas se han ido hace mucho, incluso antes de la II Guerra Mundial o poco después de eso...
Para muchas personas, la industria italiana de coches en conjunto o al menos el segmento de carros lujosos / deportivos, empieza y termina con Ferrari, lo cual claramente no es verdad, otros incluirían: Lamborghini, (Gruppo) Bertone, (la ya mencionada) Maserati, Italdesign Guigiaro, pero el punto es que desde finales del siglo XIX a la fecha, más de 140 marcas de autos han sido parte de la producción automotriz en este país mediterráneo y solo un poco más de la tercera parte todavía permanecen activas.
Una de ellas que no he mencionado aún, es de seguro una de las más importantes marcas de coches que se hayan fundado jamás en Italia, estoy hablando de Alfa Romeo, una empresa que ha estado desarrollando y produciendo vehículos en los segmentos de lujo y deportivo, desde 1910.
Habrá tiempo, si DIOS permite, para hablar más acerca de la historia y singularidades de esta compañía, pero hoy, mi invitado para esta publicación es uno de los productos más recientes de la reputada marca lombarda / milanesa: el Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé de 2013, un Auto Deportivo Subcompacto Coupé 3 Puertas 2 Plazas Fastback, que representa un intento serio para recuperar mucho del brillo de sus tiempos pasados.
Llega para competir con los de la talla del Porsche Cayman y el Lotus Exige S, ofreciendo un diseño de carrocería muy sugestivo, agresivo-sexi, que mantiene de alguna forma un vínculo con el pasado y el futuro simultáneamente, aunque para mí las proporciones son algo raras, siendo un poquitín demasiado corto y alto, casi como un kart, lo cual tiene que ver con el desempeño y comportamiento en carretera.
De hecho, el 4C fue pensado con la pista en mente y el chasis en fibra de carbono, así como otras reducciones de peso y características en componentes clave, hablan fuerte en ese sentido, pero el coche tiene presencia, estilo y un rendimiento más que decente, ofreciendo realmente buena relación calidad / precio (aunque es muy espartano en términos de lujo), en un segmento más bien salvaje: fue una gran apuesta de FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, un conglomerado actualmente parte del conglomerado más grande Stellantis) para revivir esta prestigiosa marca y hasta aquí ha sido auspiciosa...
Han pasado exactamente 9 años, por fecha (septiembre 25 de 2013), desde que publiqué mi primer modelo de Alfa Romeo en este blog, del cual puedes leer aquí y esa es una coincidencia rara si me lo preguntas, pero la única que encontrarás con respecto a esta reseña, porque el resto cambia bastante...
La diferencia más obvia es que en la anterior publicación presenté una réplica a escala de la categoría Premium, que todavía encuentro espléndida, no solo por el excelente trabajo de Kyosho en ella, sino por causa del modelo mismo en el cual está basada, una encantadora vagoneta familiar de lujo y esta vez estoy presentando un carro de juguete de Matchbox, basado en un auto deportivo más bien pequeño pero atractivo y debo decir que el trabajo en él es bueno, para variar...
Ahora, recalco ‘para variar’, porque el desempeño de Matchbox como marca de coches de juguete en diecast ha sido una montaña rusa, con un altas y bajas, pero de acuerdo con lo que he visto con ojos de coleccionista, particularmente desde hace una década, han habido muchas más bajas que altas, tanto que en la actualidad la marca naranja de Mattel no reviste interés para mí, al menos no con respecto a los lanzamientos actuales.
Este artículo es una ‘alta’ en varios aspectos y eso es satisfactorio; honestamente, es una de las pocas excepciones en ese sentido, ya que los productos recientes de Matchbox me recuerdan cada vez más que los buenos tiempos de esta marca están definitivamente en el pasado.
Lo conseguí a través del mercado primario, en una tienda de cadena minorista local, hace más o menos 6 años, durante una de esas rachas muy cortas de buena distribución local y por esa época, ya me estaba cansando de estos problemas, lo cual añadido a la pobre ejecución de la mayoría de modelos, me hicieron descartar esta marca poco después.
Fue diseñado por Mark Jones y no había visto su trabajo en autos de juguete de MBX hasta que obtuve este, solo en aquellos de HW: hay consistencia, como esperas de un buen diseñador; pertenece a la Serie MBX Adventure City de 2016, una línea de la categoría Regular (Línea Principal), hasta ahora solo 3 iteraciones han sido lanzadas, todas para la Línea Principal y esta es la tercera.
El nivel de detalle y dosis de diecast general es apropiado, ofrece carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico negro; el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en blanco con acabado brillante, complementado por tampos y/o calcomanías para las luces y parrilla frontal, también para las luces de cola y la placa trasera, luce bastante de serie y supongo que la selección de color para este modelo será muy limitada, como ha sido el caso con otros coches de juguete Alfa Romeo de Matchbox.
Este modelo ofrece ventanas ahumadas, los interiores fueron trabajados en negro, mientras las ruedas plásticas presentan diseño de rimes 5 Spokes Superfast Sport en plateado, un diseño fantástico basado en el creado para el Fisker Karma y fue hecho en Tailandia...

Long before Auto Avio Costruzioni, some years later known as Auto Costruzioni Ferrari or simply Ferrari were something, anything, an idea, there were several car brands manufacturing different kinds of vehicles in Italy, for different segments of the automotive market in this country...
I could mention, in alphabetical order: APIS, Bianchi, Cantono, Diatto, Esperia, Fiat, Ghia, Isotta Fraschini, Junior, Lancia, Maserati, Nazzaro, Officine Meccaniche, Pininfarina, Rapid, Scirea, Taurinia, Vagi, Zust, among many other companies, some of them are very well known, others are complete strangers, some of them are still with us to the present day, some of them are long gone, even before the World War II or shortly after that...
For many people, the whole Italian car industry or at least the luxury / sports car segment, starts and ends with Ferrari, which is clearly not true, others would include: Lamborghini, (Gruppo) Bertone, (the already mentioned) Maserati, Italdesign Guigiaro, but the point is that since late 19th century to date, more than 140 car brands have been part of the automotive production in this Mediterranean country and only a little more than a third still remain active.
One of them I have not mentioned yet, is for sure one of the most important car brands ever founded in Italy, I’m talking about Alfa Romeo, a company that have been developing and producing vehicles in the luxury and sport segments, since 1910.
There will be time, if GOD allows, to talk more about the history and singularities of this company, but today, my guest for this publication is one of the most recent products of the reputed Lombard / Milanese brand: the 2013 Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe, a Subcompact 3-Door 2-Seater Fastback Coupe Sports Car, that represents a serious attempt to retrieve much of the shine of its past times.
It arrives to compete with the likes of the Porsche Cayman and the Lotus Exige S, offering a very suggestive, aggressive-sexy body design, that keeps somehow a link with the past and the future simultaneously, albeit for me the proportions are kind of odd, being a bit too short and high, almost like it were a kart, which has to do with performance and behavior on the road.
In fact, the 4C was thought with the track in mind and the carbon fiber chassis, as well as other weight reductions and features in key components, speaks loud in that sense, but the car has presence, style and a more than decent performance, offering really good value for money (although is very spartan in terms of luxury), in a rather savage segment: it was a great bet by FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, a conglomerate currently part of the bigger conglomerate Stellantis) to revive this prestigious brand and so far it has been auspicious...
It has been exactly 9 years, by date (September 25, 2013), since I published my first model by Alfa Romeo in this blog, of which you can read here and that’s a weird coincidence if you ask me, but the only one you will find regarding this review, because the rest changes quite a bit...
The most obvious difference is that in the previous publication I featured a scale replica from the Premium category, that I still find gorgeous, not only for the excellent work of Kyosho on it, but because of the model itself on which it’s based, a lovely luxury station / state wagon and this time I’m featuring a toy car made by Matchbox, based on a rather small but appealing sports car and I must say that the work on it is good, for a change...
Now, I stress ‘for a change’, because the performance of Matchbox as diecast toy cars brand has been a roller coaster, with its ups and downs, but according to what I have seen with collector’s eyes, particularly since a decade ago, there have been way more downs than ups, so much that currently the orange brand of Mattel is of no interest for me, at least not regarding current releases.
This item is an ‘up’ in several aspects and that’s satisfying; honestly, it’s one of the few exceptions in that sense, since the recent products by Matchbox remind me more and more that the good times of this brand are definitely in the past.
I got it through the primary market, in a local chain retail store, pretty much 6 years ago, during one of those very short streaks of good local distribution and by that time, I was already getting tired of these issues, which added to the poor execution of most models, made me discard this brand soon after.
It was designed by Mark Jones and I had not seen his work in MBX toy cars until I got this one, only in those for HW: there is consistency, as you expect from a good designer; it belongs to the 2016 MBX Adventure City Series, a line of the Regular category (Mainline), until now only 3 iterations have been released, all for the Mainline and this is the third one.
The overall level of detail and dose of diecast is appropriate, it offers diecast body and black plastic chassis; the paint job was made in white with glossy finishing, complemented by tampos and/or decals for the front lights and grille, also for tail lights and rear plate, it looks pretty stock and I guess that the color selection for this model will be very limited, as it has been the case with other Alfa Romeo toy cars by Matchbox.
This model offers smoked windows, the interiors were worked in black, while the plastic wheels feature 5 Spokes Superfast Sport rims design in silver, a fantastic design based on the one created for the Fisker Karma and it it was made in Thailand...
