El perfil de Ford Motor Company ha estado asociado con vehículos de producción masiva de diferentes tipologías, muy en línea con lo que otras marcas con un perfil similar, como Chevrolet y Dodge, en el mercado de los Estados Unidos, han ofrecido consistentemente a través de su existencia...
Ese ha sido un común denominador en la industria automotriz de la tierra de la bandera tachonada de estrellas: vehículos populares y sin pretensiones, fabricados masivamente para el consumidor promedio, con ciertas excepciones desde luego, porque vehículos enfocados en lujo, alto rendimiento, sofisticación, extravagancia y exclusividad, han sido más asociados con el mercado europeo y no pienso que eso sea una mera casualidad: la aleatoriedad en asuntos económicos (incluyendo por supuesto la industria automotriz) es un gran sofisma...
Quiero decir, la principal ambición de Henry Ford, patriarca de esta compañía, era construir automotores para la multitud, asequibles y fáciles de operar, con el fin de hacer estos medios de transporte una opción casi para cualquiera, no solo para gente afluente.
Al menos en parte, esto explica el gran revuelo causado por el sorpresivo triunfo de un nuevo, para la época, desarrollo creado a través de una colaboración entre Ford y Shelby, en la carrera de resistencia más importante a nivel mundial: las 24 Horas de Le Mans, porque la marca del óvalo azul no fue conocida por su "pedigrí" en esta clase de competiciones.
Precisamente, en homenaje a un singular desarrollo para carreras, esta empresa decidió, más o menos 40 años después, crear una línea gran turismos / super autos, llamada simplemente Ford GT y hoy estoy introduciendo un espécimen de la segunda generación de este auto: el Ford GT de 2017, un Coupé Gran Turismo 2 Plazas Auto Deportivo / Super Auto.
Es la versión de calle de esta bestia, pero como podrías esperar de un homenaje apropiado, hay también una versión de carreras que no difiere mucho con respecto a su contraparte y fue el mismo caso con la primera generación del Ford GT, lanzado en 2005.
Fiel a sus raíces en los deportes a motor, el Ford GT de 2017 rezuma desempeño por cada uno de sus "poros metálicos", quiero decir, en realidad entrega el rendimiento "prometido" por su apariencia, pero a diferencia del horrible Enzo Ferrari (¡qué comparación tan pertinente y cáustica!), su aerodinámica sobresaliente no fue un obstáculo para un diseño despampanante, que todavía te recuerda su punto de referencia legendario de los 60s, solo que un poquitín más futurista...
Un coche como el Ford GT, ya sea en sus sabores de 2005 o 2017, no carece de reproducciones en la forma de coleccionables, como réplica a escala y como carro de juguete; eso es de esperarse, porque es prácticamente una apuesta segura para cualquier desarrollador y/o fabricante de estos artículos: esas son buenas noticias para nosotros, los coleccionistas...
Cuando se trata de autos de juguete más o menos escala 1:64, hay al menos cuatro opciones a considerar de marcas establecidas en este segmento: Tomica, Majorette, Maisto y Hot Wheels; ya que por la época que estaba en la búsqueda de este modelo, las versiones de Majorette y particularmente Tomica eran difíciles de conseguir, a un precio decente, también ya que los productos de Maisto no son tan buenos cuando se trata de calidad y tampoco fáciles de encontrar, bueno, me conformé con el ofrecido por Hot Wheels.
El diseñador detrás de este modelo es Mark Jones y tengo que decir que su trabajo ha sido uno de mis favoritos en el Equipo Hot Wheels, varios coches de juguete ya publicados y más en camino, son prueba de mi respeto por él; fue lanzado originalmente para 2016 y ha tenido al menos 16 iteraciones, incluyendo variaciones, para líneas en las categorías Regular y Adulta.
Conseguí dos de los tres lanzamientos para 2016, uno de ellos a través del mercado primario, en una tienda minorista local y el otro a través del mercado secundario, con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador / vendedor privado, hace más o menos 6 años.
Fue más bien fácil encontrarlos, por un precio decente, pero fue solo una cuestión de tiempo para que Series como Hot Wheels Entertainment: Forza Motorsport, una línea Adulta a la cual pertenece mi segundo invitado, llegaran a ser más difíciles de conseguir y más costosas de lo que consideraría proporcional para esta clase de artículos: ese tiempo fue apenas dos años después.
Estos coches de juguete ofrecen carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico plateado oscuro para la primera muestra y construcción completa en diecast para la segunda muestra; el nivel de detalle general para ambos modelos es muy decente, teniendo en mente su naturaleza, pero hay dos puntos que realmente restan valor al resultado en términos de apariencia y realismo.
Puedes ver claramente que una porción de la carrocería, detrás de las puertas, donde se encuentran con los pontones que alojan las ruedas traseras, es plástica, no en diecast y esta misma porción trasera de la carrocería, donde el diseño de pontones es más evidente, está sellada, en lugar de hueca, como encuentras en el carro real.
¿Fue una decision de diseño?, realmente dudo acerca de esto, porque en los ejemplos de Tomica, Majorette y Maisto, la porción de los pontones traseros es representada más fielmente, quiero decir, los túneles en la parte de atrás, que ayudan a crear carga aerodinámica en el auto real, son huecos, pero en el ejemplo de Hot Wheels están sellados, como ya mencioné y estamos hablando de carros de juguete en todos los casos, entonces, ¿fue esta una medida para recortar costos?, ¿es necesario responder esta última pregunta?...
Tomica en especial, también Majorette e incluso Maisto hacen un mejor trabajo en estos puntos, pero es un Hot Wheels después de todo, no puedes realmente esperar demasiado de sus productos, quiero decir, en varias ocasiones, con esta marca no consigues ni siquiera lo mínimo que esperas de un auto de juguete, en particular en sus productos más recientes y si quieres obtener algo más apropiado, el precio subirá a niveles ridículamente altos...
El trabajo de pintura para ambos carros de juguete es solo ligeramente diferente, con la segunda muestra un poquito más oscuro, en azul zafiro con acabado Metalflake, similar al Liquid Blue (Azul Líquido) usado como color "oficial" para vehículos desarrollados por Ford Performance, solo que no está disponible de fábrica, a menos que los compradores paguen al menos US$30,000 extra.
La primera muestra de la línea Regular está complementada solo por un par de calcomanías para los faros delanteros y el emblema de óvalo azul al frente; en el ejemplo de la línea Adulta, por otro lado, es adicionada una decoración con tampos en blanco, presentando franjas de carreras blancas y logos de Forza Motorsport, eventualmente algunas calcomanías son usadas también, las "fosas nasales" al frente recibieron pintura negra, y el chasis recibió pintura plateada oscura, lo cual es un bonito toque.
Sin embargo, para las luces de cola fue usada la horrenda impresión digital en inyección de tinta y uno o dos años más tarde, toda la decoración sería hecha con este acabado, reemplazando tampos y/o calcomanías, haciendo estos carros de juguete demasiado caros para lo que tienen que ofrecer.
La primera muestra tiene interiores negros, mientras en la segunda son plateado oscuro, ambos con un nivel básico de detalle y ambos presentan ventanas ahumadas; las ruedas son de una sola pieza plásticas presentando diseño de rimes Phil Riehlman 5 Spokes en gris medio y ruedas multiparte Real Riders presentando diseño de rimes 5 Spokes en plateado oscuro, llantas en caucho sintético labradas, respectivamente; finalmente, ambos fueron hechos en Malasia...

The profile of Ford Motor Company has been associated with mass production vehicles of different typologies, very much in line with what other brands with a similar profile, like Chevrolet and Dodge, in the market of United States, have offered consistently through their existence...
That has been a common denominator in the automotive industry of the land of the star studded flag: popular and unpretentious vehicles, manufactured massively for the average consumer, with certain exceptions of course, because vehicles focused on luxury, high performance, sophistication, flamboyance and exclusivity, have been more associated with the European market and I don’t think that’s a mere coincidence: randomness in economic affairs (including of course the automotive industry) is a big sophism...
I mean, the main ambition of Henry Ford, patriarch of this company, was to build motor cars for the multitude, affordable and easy to operate, in order to make these means of transportation an option for almost anyone, not just for affluent people.
At least in part, it explains the great stir caused by the surprising triumph of a new, for the time, development created through a collaboration between Ford and Shelby, in the most important endurance racing worldwide: the 24 Hours of Le Mans, because the brand of the blue oval was not known by its "pedigree" in this kind of competitions.
Precisely, paying a homage to a singular development for racing, this company decided, pretty much 40 years later, to create a grand tourers / super cars line, called simply Ford GT and today I’m introducing an specimen of the second generation of this car: the 2017 Ford GT, a 2-Seater Coupe Grand Tourer Sports Car / Super Car.
It’s the street version of this beast, but as you could expect from a proper homage, there is also a racing version that does not differ too much regarding its counterpart and it was the same case with the first generation of the Ford GT, released in 2005.
Faithfful to its motorsports roots, the 2017 Ford GT oozes performance for each one of its "metallic pores", I mean, it actually delivers the performance "promised" by its appearance, but unlike the unsightly Enzo Ferrari (what a pertinent and caustic comparison!), its outstanding aerodynamics was not an obstacle for a stunning design, that still reminds you its legendary point of reference from the 60s, only that a little bit more futuristic...
A car like the Ford GT, whether in its 2005 or 2017 flavors, does not lack of reproductions in the form of collectibles, both as scale replica and as toy car; that’s to be expected, because it’s virtually a sure bet for any developer and/or manufacturer of these items: that’s good new for us, collectors...
When it comes to toy cars pretty much 1:64 scale, there are at least four options to consider from brands established in this segment: Tomica, Majorette, Maisto and Hot Wheels; since by the time I was in the search of this model, the versions by Majorette and particularly Tomica were difficult to get, at a decent price, also since the Maisto products are not so good when it comes to quality and not so easy to find either, well, I settled with the one offered by Hot Wheels.
The designer behind this model is Mark Jones and I have to say that his work has been one of my favorites in the Hot Wheels Team, several toy cars already published and more on the way, are proof of my respect for him; it was released originally for 2016 and it has had at least 16 iterations, including variations, for lines in the Regular and Adult categories.
I got two of the three releases for 2016, one of them through the primary market, in a local retail store and the other through the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer / private seller, pretty much 6 years ago.
It was rather easy to find them, for a decent price, but it was just a matter of time for Series like Hot Wheels Entertainment: Forza Motorsport, an Adult line to which belongs my second guest, to become harder to get and more expensive than what I would consider proportional for this kind of items: that time was barely two years later.
These toy cars offer diecast body and dark silver plastic chassis for the first sample and full diecast construction for the second sample; the overall level of detail for both models is very decent, bearing in mind their nature, but there are two points that really detract from the result in terms of appearance and realism.
You can see clearly that a portion of the body, behind the doors, where they meet the pontoons that house the rear wheels, is plastic, not diecast and this same rear portion of the body, where the pontoons design is more evident, is sealed, instead of hollow, as you find in the actual car.
Was it a design decision?, I really doubt about it, because in the examples by Tomica, Majorette and Maisto, the portion of the rear pontoons is more faithfully represented, I mean, the tunnels at the rear, that help to create downforce in the actual car, are hollow, but in the example by Hot Wheels are sealed, as I already mentioned and we are talking about toy cars in all the cases, then, what it a cost-cutting measure?, is it necessary to answer the latter question?...
Tomica in special, also Majorette and even Maisto do a better job in these points, but it’s a Hot Wheels after all, you can’t really expect too much from its products, I mean, on several occasions, with this brand you don’t get not even the minimum you expect from a toy car, in particular in its more recent products and if you want to get something more appropriate, the price will rise to ridiculously high levels...
The paint job for both toy cars is only slightly different, with the second sample a bit darker, in sapphire blue with Metalflake finishing, similar to the Liquid Blue used as "official" color for vehicles developed by Ford Performance, only that is not available from factory, unless buyers pay at least US$30,000 extra.
The first sample from the Regular line is complemented only by a pair of decals for the head lights and a blue oval emblem at front; in the sample of the Adult line, on the other hand, is added a decoration with tampos in white, featuring white racing stripes and logos from Forza Motorsport, eventually some decals are used too, the "nostrils" at front received black paint, and the chassis received dark silver paint, which is a nice touch.
However, for the tail lights it was used the hideous digital inject printing and one or two years later, the whole decoration would be made with this finishing, replacing tampos and/or decals, making these toy cars too expensive for what they have to offer.
The first sample has black interiors, while in the second are dark silver, both with a basic level of detail and both feature smoked windows; the wheels are single-piece plastic featuring Phil Riehlman 5 Spokes rims design in medium gray and multipart Real Riders wheels featuring 5 Spokes rims design in dark silver, styled synthetic rubber tires, respectively; finally, both were made in Malaysia...
