Un entusiasta de los autos normal (¿o debería decir, promedio?) usualmente disfruta la imponente presencia de un auto en particular, no tiene más que halagos para cierto modelo y su singular diseño, se enloquece mirando un poderoso motor o admira embelezado un esquema de color hermoso y un trabajo de pintura cuidadoso...
Bueno, eso es bastante común, es decir, yo lo haría encantado, porque me encantan los coches (entre otras muchas cosas, desde luego) pero, sin ánimo de ofender, yo no soy el entusiasta de carros normal / promedio...
No soy un ingeniero automotriz o un mecánico o un vendedor de concesionario o un personalizador de autos...
Soy un diseñador gráfico profesional, un comunicador visual y obviamente, tengo un punto de vista "ligeramente" diferente...
Por ejemplo, la mayoría de los colegas entusiastas de los coches difícilmente profundizarían en el significado y connotaciones involucradas en el nombre de un vehículo...
Aquel que usa el nombre "Cameo" (Camafeo) para una camioneta pickup, tiene en mente algo más que un simple medio de transporte o un vehículo utilitario...
Un cameo (camafeo) es una delicada joya, labrada en relieve sobre un fondo contrastante, usando como "lienzo" gemas semi-preciosas, conchas, marfil o coral; algunas veces es solo pintada pero, en ambos casos, es una fina obra de arte, normalmente con un tamaño no mayor a tres pulgadas.
No es fácil crear una "conexión" directa entre una joya y una camioneta pickup, al menos no teóricamente...
Pero una vez le echas un cuidadoso vistazo a la Chevrolet Cameo Carrier Camioneta Pickup de 1955, ¡la conexión es más fácil!...
En mi concepto personal, este modelo específico fue el primero y más cercano ejemplo de cómo debería lucir una camioneta pickup de lujo...
En aquella época, el concepto en sí debió sonar extraño o imposible, al fin y al cabo era un vehículo de trabajo.
Sin embargo, su estilista, Chuck Jordan (quien llegaría a ser el Vice-Presidente de Diseño en GM) tomó los principales elementos presentes en el diseño del Chevy Bel Air, un vehículo de lujo de tamaño completo y los transformó en una hermosa y extremadamente elegante pickup citadina.
Este modelo está lleno de deliciosos detalles, como el fantástico trabajo de pintura en dos tonos, el uso moderado de cromo, los interiores de lujo presentan el mismo esquema de color de dos tonos tanto en el tablero como en la tapicería, la cabina y el platón / caja fueron integrados increíblemente bien (el platón fue pintado a juego con el esquema de color general).
El diseño frontal era similar al de otras pickups de la línea Task Force, pero el diseño trasero era completamente único, las llantas de banda blanca junto con los rimes de dos tonos eran estándar, tenía algunas partes hechas en fibra de vidrio (para hacerla asequible, pero esto también contribuyó a su singularidad), la transmisión automática era opcional y podía ser unida a un respetable motor de 265 pulgadas cúbicas (4.3 L) V8...
¡Eso es lo que llamo una joya!...
¡De hecho, fue considerada el Corvette de las camionetas, bastante justo!...
Johnny Lightning tiene una fuerte y estupenda línea de pickups norteamericanas, para mí ellas están en la categoría Premium de esta escala y podría ser equiparada, cabeza a cabeza, con la línea Premium Hot Wheels 100% de Hot Wheels.
Este modelo en particular es absolutamente maravilloso, el parecido con el vehículo real es increíble, excelente proporción y nivel de detalle.
En este nivel de precio, la construcción de carrocería / chasis en diecast es obligatoria así que, el modelo es pesado.
El trabajo de pintura / tampos son de primera categoría y retratan fielmente el esquema de color original (blanco y rojo), que son complementados por un par de franjas, para lograr una fantástica pinta racing.
Hay una cubierta para el platón de la camioneta con decoración a juego, apertura de capó con motor detallado en negro e interiores en rojo.
Tiene ruedas plásticas y rimes cromados con diseño Cragar (construcción multiparte) y los espejos retrovisores laterales están incluidos...
¡Otra joya a escala!...

A plain car enthusiast (or should I say: average?) usually enjoys the imposing presence of a particular car, has nothing but praise for certain model and its singular design, goes crazy watching a powerful engine or admires enraptured a beautiful color scheme and careful paint job...
Well, that’s pretty common, I mean, I would do that gladly, because I love cars (among many other things, of course) but, no offense intended, I’m not the plain / average car enthusiast...
I’m not an automotive engineer or a mechanic or a dealer’s salesman or a car customizer...
I’m a professional graphic designer, a visual communicator and obviously, I have a "slightly" different point of view...
For instance, most of the fellow car enthusiast hardly would deepen in the meaning and connotations involved in the name of a vehicle...
The one who uses the name "Cameo" for a pickup truck, has more in mind than just a plain mean of transportation or an utilitarian vehicle...
A cameo is a delicate jewel, carved in relief on a contrasting background, using as "canvas" semi-precious gemstones, shells, ivory or coral; sometimes it’s just painted but, in both cases, is a fine piece of art, usually with a size of no more than three inches.
Is not easy to create a direct "connection" between a jewel and a pickup truck, at least not theoretically...
But once you take a careful look to the 1955 Chevrolet Cameo Carrier Pickup Truck, the connection is easier!...
In my personal concept, this specific model was the first and closest example of how a luxurious pickup truck should look...
At that time, the concept itself should sound queer or impossible, in the end it was a working vehicle.
However, its Stylist, Chuck Jordan (who would become Vice-President of Design in GM) took the main elements present in the design of the Chevy Bel Air, a full-size luxury vehicle and transformed them into a beautiful and extremely sleek city pickup.
This model is full of delicious details, like the fantastic two-tones paint job, the moderate use of chrome, the deluxe interiors feature the same two-tones color scheme both in the streamlined dashboard as in the upholstery, the cabin and the bed / box were integrated incredibly good (the bed was painted matching the overall color scheme).
The front design was similar to the other pickups of the Task Force line, but the rear design was completely unique, the white wall tires along with the two tone wheels were standard, it has some parts made of fiberglass (to make it affordable, but this also contributed to its singularity), the automatic transmission was optional and it could be attached to a respectable 265 cu in (4.3 L) V8 engine...
That’s what I call a gem!...
In fact, it was considered the Corvette of the trucks, fair enough!...
Johnny Lightning has a strong and stunning line of american pickups, for me they are in the Premium category of this scale and it could be equated, head to head, with the Premium line Hot Wheels 100% by Hot Wheels.
This particular model is absolutely wonderful, the resemblance with the actual vehicle is incredible, with excellent proportion and level of detail.
At this level of price, the diecast body / chassis construction is mandatory so, the model is heavy.
The paint job / tampos are top notch and they portray faithfully the original color scheme (white and red), which are complemented by a pair of stripes, to achieve an awesome racing look.
There is a cover for the truck’s bed with matching decor, openable hood with detailed engine in black and interiors in red.
It has plastic tires and chrome rims with Cragar design (multipart construction) and the side mirrors are included...
Another gem in scale!...

I have a feeling that JL makes better die-cast cars than HW. There's a lot of details to it.
actually it depends on the specific line, Dennis... in the regular lines by HW, you can hardly find great details (except for a few models), but in the adult lines and specially in the Hot Wheels 100% line by HW, the level of detail and finishings is equivalent... however, with the recent lines by Johnny Lightning the level of detail is fabulous even in its "regular" lines !!!... =)
This is one gorgeous pick up truck. The white and pink color combination make it so adorable. I like it!!!
in fact, the color scheme of this pickup truck is white and red... maybe in the pictures, with the "extreme" luminosity of the day i took them, makes the red looks like pink... i totally agree with you, this pickup is extremely beautiful and the work of Johnny Lightning here is excellent !!!... =)
Ese tipo de vehículos son lo que mas me atrae de los coleccionables de 4 gomas pero cuando uno se encuentra con un diecast de este nivel de diseño y muy buen gusto...es cuando uno llega a la deducción de la necesidad de obtener mas dinero para poderlos conseguir y tener esa gran satisfacción de tener una gran pieza de colección...
Mijo, la calidad de Johnny Lightning está fuera de toda discusión, uno tiene que estar ciego para no percibirla, pero no faltan los "coleccionistas" a los que les parece que cualquier producto de Hot Wheels es mejor: tamaña imbecilidad!... Cualquiera que tenga dos dedos de frente (o algo más que acerrín en el coco) sabe que la única línea de Hot Wheels que puede compararse con los productos que Johnny Lightning ofrece, particularmente desde 1997 en adelante, es la Hot Wheels 100%, la única línea Premium que tiene esa marca y la única que merece el nombre de coleccionable adulto, el resto son carritos de juguete, con una dosis cada vez mayor de plástico y menor calidad... Es curioso que muchos modelos chinos, que en su tiempo fueron muy baratos y despreciados por muchos "coleccionistas", tiene mejores moldes, acabados, apertura de puertas / capó, etc., y mucho más diecast que lo que HW se atreve a ofrecer hoy en día y a un precio mucho más alto, los muy descarados...
