Cuando ves un auto de ensueño rodar por la calle, estás tan embelesado por su excelencia y singularidad, que la simple idea de una falla o inconveniente, es algo que tu mente se rehusa a relacionar con tal prodigio sobre ruedas... 

Es simplemente que la mayoría de personas visualiza la creación de un vehículo legendario como una especie de cuento de hadas cursi, donde todo es lindo y fácil... 

Protagonizado por magos en el departamento de diseño, elfos en la división de ingeniería, caballeros en la oficina de mercadeo y duendecillos en las instalaciones de producción, trabajando felices juntos para familias de la realeza, que resultan ser bastante condescendientes, aceptando encantadas cualquier cosa que reciban como carruaje y pajarillos trinando a tu alrededor... 

Peeeeeeeero, me temo que tengo que romper esa burbuja en la que vives (¡y sugerirte que déjes las drogas!), porque la industria automotriz es cualquier cosa menos la sucursal de Quiéreme-Mucho (es decir, la patria de los Ositos Cariñositos, por si acaso) =PPPPP... 

El ingenio y la innovación de los visionarios difícilmente reciben la atención debida por parte de los emporios del automóvil que, por razones obvias, están pensando siempre primero en términos de lucro. 

No obstante, incluso si ellos reciben la atención y recursos de la industria, hay todavía una batalla tenaz que dar, con el fin de convencer a una masa caprichosa de clientes, para comprar estos sueños sobre ruedas... 

Estoy bastante complacido de presentar otra publicación, basada en uno de los vehículos más paradigmáticos jamás concebido y, de lejos, la muestra más elocuente del talento de un ex-piloto de carreras, diseñador automotriz y empresario de Leesburg, Texas: el sr. Carroll Shelby. 

Hay varios autos impresionantes en el portafolio de Shelby, porque, a pesar de sus problemas de salud, debido a fallas del corazón, él era increíblemente apasionado por los coches de alto desempeño... 

Sin embargo, estoy hablando sobre un carro que es la "firma" indeleble de Carroll, en el libro de las Leyendas Automotrices Mundiales: el Shelby AC Cobra 427 S/C MkIII Roadster 2 Puertas de 1966. 

La historia de este vehículo comenzó al menos siete años antes de su lanzamiento, cuando Shelby era uno de los pilotos oficiales del equipo de carreras de Aston Martin, y ganó las 24 Horas de Le Mans, junto con Roy Salvadori, conduciendo un Aston Martin DBR1. 

Es bastante probable que Carroll haya notado el rendimiento sobresaliente del más bien compacto, pero fogoso AC Ace en dicha carrera, más precisamente en 1957 y 1958. 

Por aquella época, estaba claro para Shelby, que sus días como piloto profesional de carreras serían pocos y la idea de ser un diseñador / constructor de autos independiente, estaba ya revoloteando por su cabeza. 

Por supuesto, no sería una tarea fácil (toda la gente que trabaja independientemente, como yo, sabrá lo que quiero decir), pero Carroll era una guerrero curtido, un observador inteligente y después de retirarse de las carreras, comenzó contactos con Charles Hurlock de AC Cars Ltd., en Septiembre de 1961. 

El AC Ace fue producido desde 1953 y era ya el auto insignia, cuando se trata de coches deportivos, para dicho fabricante de automóviles privado, en la época en que Shelby puso sus ojos en ese carro. 

El diseño de carrocería del Ace, tiene algunas reminiscencias del Ferrari 166 S (donde "S" significa Spider), un auto de carreras que puso el apellido del engreído Enzo, en la palestra de las competiciones internacionales. 

A pesar de su inspiración italiana, el AC Ace tiene un fuerte sabor británico y aunque tuvo un desempeño pálido al principio de su producción, por cuenta de la pobre oferta de motores británicos dignos, paulatinamente incluyó la opción de corazones americanos más grandes y más potentes... 

Bueno, esto es todo por ahora, más detalles sobre la agridulce historia y logros de esta bestia legendaria, en publicaciones futuras, si estás interesado =PPPPP... 

Finalmente, fui capaz de publicar algunas muestras del famoso AC Cobra en mi colección; debo confesar que debido a la amplia variedad de lanzamientos hechos por Hot Wheels y mi predilección por las versiones antiguas, la búsqueda tomó un tiempo, pero el esfuerzo valió la pena y estoy feliz de compartirlo. 

El debút de este precioso molde fue en 1983, para la Serie Hot Ones y es fácilmente, uno de los más populares en el portafolio de HW, con más de 71 versiones o variantes hasta nuestros días. 

Dicho éxito puede ser explicado por la gran combinación de un modelo espléndido y un experimentado diseñador de diecast a cargo: el sr. Larry Wood, ¡un frecuente invitado a mi humilde blog!... 

El molde es muy fiel al coche original para un auto de juguete, agradablemente detallado, tiene construcción completa en diecast (carrocería y chasis), aunque las versiones más recientes fueron equipadas con chasis plástico y una característica siempre bienvenida: apertura de capó con motor detallado, otra combinación ganadora. 

La primera muestra pertenece a la Serie Regular, que venía dentro de una vieja tarjeta azul; el trabajo de pintura incluye tanto la carrocería en rojo brillante con decoración en amarillo, blanco y negro, bastante vintage, como el chasis, en negro brillante; los interiores son negros (con un timón realista, a diferencia de los otros), el parabrisas es transparente, las ruedas son plásticas con el diseño inusual de rimes 7 Spoke cromado y fue hecho en Malasia. 

La segunda muestra pertenece a la Serie Auto Milestones, una línea Adulta hecha exclusivamente para Wal-Mart; venía dentro de un clamshell con diseño nostálgico; el trabajo de pintura sobre la carrocería fue hecho en azul medio con acabado Metalflake y es complementado por dos franjas blancas, tampos para las luces delanteras, direccionales, traseras, adornos en los paneles laterales, la insignia de la Serie en el panel lateral derecho y una placa diminuta en la cola, completamente legible; los interiores son negros, con un toque de pintura en la barra antivuelco, tiene parabrisas transparente, ruedas multiparte con llantas de caucho Real Riders, presentando tampos de Goodyear en blanco, diseño de rimes Chrome Hub y fue hecho en Malasia. 

La tercera muestra pertenece a la Serie Bruce Wayne Collection, una línea Adulta con producción limitada de 10.000 unidades en todo el mundo; obviamente es un producto licenciado por DC Comics, Warner Brothers y Carroll Shelby; tiene un trabajo de pintura similar al modelo anterior, en azul medio con acabado Metalflake, ligeramente más oscuro y la decoración de dos franjas blancas incluye cuatro insignias redondeadas #17, también complementada por tampos para las luces delanteras, direccionales, de cola, adornos en los paneles laterales e incluso los exhostos a cada lado recibieron pintura blanca, mientras el chasis fue pintado en negro; los interiores son negros, tiene parabrisas transparente, ruedas multiparte con llantas en caucho Real Riders, un raro diseño de rimes Mag Style o 5 Hole cromado y, de nuevo, fue hecho en Malasia...

When you see a dream car rolling down the street, you’re so spellbound by its excellence and singularity, that the simple idea of a flaw or drawback, is something that your mind just refuses to relate with such prodigy on wheels... 

It’s just that most people visualize the creation of a legendary vehicle as a sort of corny fairy tale, where everything is nice and easy... 

Starring magicians in the design department, elves in the engineering division, knights in the marketing office and pixies in the production facility, working happy together for royal families, who happen to be quite acquiescent, accepting gladly anything they receive as carriages and birdies are chirping around you... 

Buuuuuuuut, I’m afraid that I have to break that bubble in which you live (and suggest you to quit doing drugs!), because the automotive industry is anything but the branch office of Care-A-Lot (i.e. the homeland of the Carebears, just in case) =PPPPP... 

The wit and innovation of visionaries hardly receive due attention by the automobile emporiums which, for obvious reasons, are always thinking first in terms of profit. 

Nonetheless, even if they get attention and resources from the industry, there is yet a tenacious battle to fight, in order to convince a whimsical mass of customers, to buy these dreams on wheels... 

I’m quite pleased to introduce another publication, based on one of the most paradigmatic vehicles ever conceived and, by far, the most eloquent sample of the talent of a former racing driver, automotive designer and entrepreneur from Leesburg, Texas: mr. Carroll Shelby. 

There are many awesome cars in the Shelby’s portfolio, because despite his health issues, due to heart flaws, he was incredibly passionate for high performance cars... 

However, I’m talking about a car that is the indelible "signature" of Carroll in the book of the World’s Automotive Legends: the 1966 Shelby AC Cobra 427 S/C MkIII 2-Door Roadster. 

The history of this vehicle began at least seven years before its release, when Shelby was one of the official pilots of the Aston Martin racing team and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959, along with Roy Salvadori, driving an Aston Martin DBR1. 

It’s quite likely that Carroll has noticed the outstanding performance of the rather compact, but spirited AC Ace in such race, more precisely in 1957 and 1958. 

At that time, it was clear for Shelby, that his days as professional racing driver would be few and the idea of being an independent car designer / builder, was already fluttering by his mind. 

Of course, it wouldn’t be an easy task (all the people who work independently, like me, will know what I mean), but Carroll was a hardened warrior, a clever observer and after quitting racing, he began contacts with Charles Hurlock of AC Cars Ltd., in September 1961. 

The AC Ace was produced since 1953 and was already the flagship, when it comes to sports cars, for such private automobile manufacturer, at the time that Shelby had laid eyes on that car. 

The body design of the Ace, has some reminiscences of the Ferrari 166 S (where the "S" stands for Spider), a racing car that put the surname of the conceited Enzo, in the spotlight of the international competitions. 

Despite its italian inspiration, the AC Ace has a strong British flavor and although it had a pale performance at the beginning of its production, on account of the poor offer of worthy british engines, gradually included the option of bigger and more powerful american hearts... 

Well, for now that’s it, more details on the bittersweet history and achievements of this legendary beast, in future publications, if you’re interested =PPPPP... 

Finally, I was able to publish some samples of the famous AC Cobra in my collection; I must confess that with the wide variety of releases made by Hot Wheels and my predilection for the old versions, the search took a while, but the effort was worth it and I’m happy to share them. 

The debut of this precious mold was in 1983, for the Hot Ones Series and is easily, one of the most popular models in the HW portfolio, with more than 71 versions or variations to the present day. 

Such success can be explained by the great combination of a gorgeous model and a seasoned diecast designer in charge: mr. Larry Wood, a frequent guest of my humble blog!... 

The cast is very faithful to the original car for a toy car, nicely detailed, it has full diecast construction (body and chassis), albeit the more recent versions had been fitted with plastic chassis and an always welcome feature: openable hood with detailed engine, another winner combination. 

The first sample belongs to the Regular Series, which came inside an old blue card; the paint job includes both the body in glossy red with decoration in yellow, white and black, quite vintage, as the chassis, in glossy black; the interiors are black (with realistic steering wheel, unlike the others), the windshield is clear, the wheels are plastic with the unusual 7 Spoke rims design chrome and it was made in Malaysia. 

The second sample belongs to the Auto Milestones Series, an Adult line made exclusively for Wal-Mart; it came inside a clamshell with nostalgic design; the paint job on the body was made in medium blue with Metalflake finishing and is complemented by two white stripes, tampos for the head, signal, tail lights, trims on the side panels, the badge of the Series on the right side panel and a tiny plate on the tail, fully legible; the interiors are black, with a touch of paint for the rollbar, it has clear windshield, multipart wheels with Real Riders rubber tires, featuring Goodyear tampos in white, Chrome Hub rims design and it was made in Malaysia. 

The third sample belongs to the Bruce Wayne Collection Series, an Adult line with limited production of 10,000 units worldwide; obviously, is a product licensed by DC Comics, Warner Brothers and Carroll Shelby; it has a similar paint job to the previous model, in medium blue with Metalflake finishing, slightly darker and the two white stripes decoration includes four #17 rounded badges, also complemented by tampos for the head, signal, tail lights, trims on the side panels and even the exhausts on either side received white paint, while the chassis was painted in black; the interiors are black, it has clear windshield, multipart wheels with Real Riders rubber tires, a rare Mag Style or 5 Hole rims design chrome and again, it was made in Malaysia...
