1930’s Era Custom Roadster Woody Pickup - Street Rod - Hot Wheels Concept Car (’30s-Era Custom Roadster) 2003 Wild Wood Hot Wheels 100% Series -Limited Edition for the Adult Collector- 2/2 Diecast No Scale by Hot Wheels

El diseño racional, donde la economía de elementos es esencial para maximizar el carácter funcional de cualquier objeto creado por la industria, dejando a un lado el fútil encanto de los ornamentos, tan extendido en la cultura popular, es algo que me ha intrigado desde que estaba en la universidad... 

No en vano, como profesional en una de las ramas del diseño, expresé en una reseña anterior mi admiración por el Movimiento Bauhaus, el cual en asunto de apenas 14 años (1919-1933), transformó la visión del arte y el diseño en la sociedad contemporánea... 

Yo sé lo que implica crear un objeto o producto pulcro, sencillo, práctico y con todo tan atractivo, que ves expresada la mente y el corazón de un diseñador / artista en él; ¡eso está muy lejos de ser fácil de lograr!... 

Sin embargo, mis gustos en diseño no están limitados a objetos o productos creados racionalmente, NO, aprecio también los devaneos artísticos de los diseñadores locos e irreverentes de elementos personalizados. 

Sí, esos tipos (o tipas) con una comezón creativa exacerbada, que simplemente no pueden aceptar los objetos producidos en masa como la elección correcta para todos; ellos odian el estándar y trabajan duro para crear algo insólito, porque creen en el poder de la diferencia: ellos son personalizadores. 

Hay personalizadores para prácticamente cualquier artefacto fabricado industrialmente, pero estoy enfocado en la gente que trabaja con automóviles, ya que, obviamente, esta publicación presenta un producto de esta clase. 

Generar controversia no es necesariamente lo que estas personas buscan, pero sus creaciones radicales son muy a menudo objeto de críticas, especialmente cuando toman como base un modelo que ha sido relevante para el mundo automotriz. 

No obstante, incluso cuando estos personalizadores crean un auto desde cero, hay todavía voces de desaprobación de individuos que no entienden la valiosa contribución de los diseñadores y constructores, quienes quieren estar fuera de la corriente principal. 

En cuanto a mí, me importan muy poco los detractores de los Custom Cars y, por el contrario, es un placer encontrar un ejemplo bizarro de lo que un vehículo podría/debería ser, desarrollado por gente que piensa de forma diferente. 

Ese es el caso de mi invitado para esta reseña, un vehículo que fue diseñado ignorando cualquier referencia real; en realidad, no he visto ningún automóvil actual con un aspecto tan atrevido y excéntrico como el presentado aquí. 

Con todo, en la designación de esta Pickup Woody Roadster Custom de la Era de los 30s, yace la inspiración para una tipología de vehículo que desapareció del portafolio de los fabricantes de coches, hace mucho tiempo. 

Cuando las primeras camionetas pickup fueron creadas oficialmente en la segunda década del siglo pasado, eran fabricadas sobre un chasis desnudo, por carroceros independientes y por causa de la vocación rural de estos vehículos utilidad, un roadster despojado, con techo de lona, fue una opción común para empezar. 

Además, en aquella época, el uso de madera para construir carrocerías estaba extendido; como mencioné en otra publicación, era más costo-efectivo que el uso de acero y resulta una completa curiosidad que un par de décadas después, fue al revés. 

Por esta misma razón, creo que la Pickup Custom Roadster introducida esta vez, es una buena muestra de un vehículo recreativo, con aires de lujo y una sobredosis de actitud que un carro producido en masa no podría igualar. 

No sé si una versión a tamaño natural de esta Street Rod existe, pero diría que con una construcción muy ligera de chasis y carrocería (esta última principalmente hecha en madera), un diseño aerodinámico con un bajo coeficiente de arrastre y un motor indignante, ¡necesitarás agallas para conducirla hasta el límite!... 

Conseguir un artículo de la línea Hot Wheels 100%, especialmente de lanzamientos antiguos, se ha convertido en una "lotería" hoy en día; quiero decir, es muy difícil encontrarlos y mucho más si quieres un precio decente, porque siendo una línea Premium, sufre problemas similares a otros productos en este segmento... 

Pero considerando la posición de Hot Wheels como el fabricante más grande de diecast, debes esperar que todos los vicios involucrados en la disponibilidad de sus productos, sean versiones aumentadas de lo que sucede con otras compañías dedicadas a la misma actividad. 

De hecho, con esta marca, puedes atestiguar los casos más escandalosos de especulación y acaparamiento de la industria entera del diecast y la Mafia de los Hot Wheels es el gremio más despreciable de estafadores que haya conocido hasta ahora en esta afición. 

Cualquier línea con la cual dicha Mafia pueda obtener un lucro obsceno, será definitivamente un blanco primordial para estos parásitos. 

Sin embargo, de acuerdo con la ley de oferta y demanda, esta Mafia es solo parte del problema, porque derivan sus ganancias de los compradores de sus productos a precios irracionales, un puñado de consumidores-fanfarrones-cabezas-huecas-de-baja-autoestima-y-billeteras-gordas, que muy a menudo son cómplices de la Mafia... 

Desafortunadamente, la línea Hot Wheels 100% se ha convertido en un objetivo para esta Mafia y aunque me encantan estos productos, acepté el hecho que no conseguiré tantos como quiero, porque NO estoy dispuesto a ser parte de esa orgía de precios obscenos, a diferencia de otros mal llamados "coleccionistas". 

A pesar de este panorama poco alentador, puedo disfrutar de esta afición gracias a la oportuna ayuda de mis amigos, colegas coleccionistas y proveedores, quienes todavía creen en la conveniencia de los precios justos para la salud de esta actividad automotivada. 

Obviamente, este modelo no es parte de la oferta local en las tiendas minoristas y es dificil de encontrar incluso en tiendas especializadas. 

Pertenece a la Serie Wild Wood y, en mi humilde opinión, representa elocuentemente este concepto, con un diseño audaz que rompe el molde y presenta el nivel de detalle, proporción y acabados característicos en esta línea. 

Tiene carrocería y chasis en diecast; el trabajo de pintura en el chasis incluyó solo el sistema de escape, pero fue agradablemente hecho, mientras que la carrocería tiene dos áreas de color: el frente fue trabajado en violeta con acabado Metalflake y el resto fue trabajado para simular la textura de la madera, el resultado para mí es bastante atractivo en efecto; hay tampos para la parrilla frontal y los paneles laterales y traseros. 

El fantástico motor, con los enormes exhostos laterales son una pieza separada en plástico, con acabado cromado y puedes quitar el capó para exponer el tren de potencia en todo su esplendor; los interiores presentan un lindo tablero de instrumentos con timón y palanca de cambios detallados, en rojo, plateado y marrón claro, los asientos de banco recibieron una calcomanía o tampo colorido, con un patrón de franjas y el parabrisas es una pieza separada, con estampado cromado. 

Finalmente, las ruedas son multiparte, presentando delgadas al frente y anchas atrás, justo como un dragster; los rimes tienen acabado cromado y fue hecho en China...

The rational design, where the economy of elements is essential to maximize the functional character of any object created by the industry, leaving aside the futile charm of the ornaments, so widespread in popular culture, is something that has intrigued me since I was in college... 

Not in vane, as professional in one of the branches of design, I expressed in a previous review my admiration by the Bauhaus Movement, which in a matter of barely 14 years (1919-1933), transformed the vision of art and design in the contemporary society... 

I know what implies to create an object or product sleek, straightforward, handy and yet so attractive, that you see expressed the mind and the heart of a designer / artist in it; that’s far from being easy to achieve!... 

However, my tastes in design are not limited to objects or products rationally created, NO, I do appreciate as well the artistic dalliances of the crazy and irreverent designers of custom elements. 

Yeah, those guys (or gals) with an exacerbated creative itching, who just cannot accept the mass produced objects as the right choice for everyone; they hate the standard and work hard to create something offbeat, because they believe in the power of difference: they are customizers. 

There are customizers for virtually any artifact manufactured industrially, but I’m focused in the people who work with automobiles since, obviously, this publication features a product of this kind. 

Generate controversy is not necessarily what these people are looking for, but their radical creations are very often target of criticism, specially when they take as basis a model that has been relevant for the automotive world. 

Nonetheless, even when these customizers create a car from the scratch, there are still voices of disapproval from individuals who don’t understand the valuable contribution of the designers and builders, who want to be out of the mainstream. 

Speaking for myself, I care very little about the detractors of Custom Cars and conversely, it’s my pleasure to find a bizarre example of what a vehicle could/should be, developed by people who think differently. 

That’s the case of my guest for this review, a vehicle that was designed ignoring any actual reference; actually, I have not seen any current automobile with an aspect as daring and eccentric as the one featured here. 

Yet, in the designation of this 30’s-Era Custom Roadster Woody Pickup, lies the inspiration for a typology of vehicle that was vanished from the carmakers’ portfolio, long ago. 

When the first pickup trucks were officially created in the second decade of the last century, they were manufactured on bare chassis, by independent coach builders and because of the rural vocation of these utility vehicles, a stripped off roadster, with canvas roof, was a common option to begin with. 

Besides, at that time, the use of wood to build car bodies was widespread; as I mentioned in other publication, it was more cost-effective than the use of steel and results a whole curiosity that a pair of decades later, it was the other way around. 

For this very reason, I think that the Custom Roadster Pickup introduced this time, is a great sample of a recreative vehicle, with airs of luxury and an overdose of attitude that a mass produced car could not match. 

I don’t know if a life-size version of this Street Rod exists, but I would say that with a very light chassis and body construction (the latter mainly made in wood), a streamlined design with low drag coefficient and an outrageous engine like the one it features, you will need guts to drive it up to the limit!... 

To get an item from the Hot Wheels 100% line, specially from the old releases, has became a whole "lottery" nowadays; I mean, it’s very difficult to find them and much more if you want a decent price, because being a Premium line, it undergoes similar issues to other products in this segment... 

But considering the position of Hot Wheels as the largest diecast maker, you must expect that all the vices involved in the availability of its products, are megascopic versions of what happens with other companies dedicated to the same activity. 

In fact, with this brand, you witness the most outrageous cases of speculation and hoarding of the entire diecast industry and the Mafia of the Hot Wheels is the most despicable guild of swindlers I have known until now in this hobby. 

Whatever line with which such Mafia can get an obscene profit, will be definitely an overriding target for these parasites. 

However, according to the law of supply and demand, this Mafia is only part of the problem, because they derive their earnings from buyers of their products at irrational prices, a bunch of braggarts-knuckleheads-low-self-esteem-and-fat-wallets-consumers, that very often are complicit in the Mafia... 

Unfortunately, the Hot Wheels 100% line has become a goal for this Mafia and although I love these products, I accepted the fact that I will not get as much as I want, because I’m NOT willing to be part of such orgy of obscene prices, unlike other misnamed "collectors". 

Despite this gloomy panorama, I can enjoy this hobby thanks to the timely help of my friends, fellow collectors and suppliers, who still believe in the convenience of fair prices for the health of this self-motivated activity. 

Obviously, this model is not part of the local offer in the retail stores and is hard to find even in specialized stores. 

It belongs to the Wild Wood Series and, in my humble opinion, it represents eloquently this concept, with a bold design that brakes the mold and features the signature level of detail, proportion and finishes in this line. 

It has diecast body and chassis; the paint job for the chassis included only the exhaust system, but was nicely done, while the body has two areas of color: the front was worked in violet with Metalflake finishing and the rest was worked to simulate the wood texture, the result for me is quite attractive indeed; there are tampos for the front grille and the side and rear panels. 

The fantastic engine, with the huge side exhaust are a separate piece in plastic, with chrome finishing and you can remove the hood to expose the powertrain in its full glory; the interiors feature a beautiful dashboard with a detailed steering wheel and shifter, in red, silver and light brown, the bench seats received a colorful decal or tampo, with a pattern of stripes and the windshield is a separate piece, with chrome stamping. 

Finally, the wheels are multipart, featuring thin in front and wide in back, just like a dragster; the rims have chrome finishing and it was made in China...
