It would be interesting to figure out what would be crossing the mind of Enzo Ferrari at this very moment (if he were alive), looking at what his brand and his company has become...
Of course, this is just a hypothetical exercise, but there is an acquis of information about the life of "il commendatore" available and even more eloquent than that, there is an acquis of cars that let you speculate with certain degree of truthfulness about it...
So, would he like the cars that bear his name, produced currently?...
Well, I have found in different sources and it’s well known by the loyal fanatics of the brand of the "cavallino rampante", that Enzo barely tolerated the manufacturing of street cars in his atelier.
I guess that some trusted employees, external collaborators, relatives and friends, tried in vane to convince him, not only about the transcendence of this kind of models for his company, but also about the special charm of a vehicle created for people who are not professional pilots, but who are speed lovers.
To some extend it’s understandable for a sttuborn guy who had his beginnings in his own Scuderia (racing team), working firstly for Alfa-Romeo...
It was his initial call, what else you could expect?...
Perhaps I’m wrong, but I can’t see Enzo Ferrari as a business man, he just didn’t have what it takes to play that role.
However, what I do have to admit (keeping in mind that "il commendatore" is not a guy of my affections, because of his arrogant personality), is that he was a man of racing and he lived up for that...
Then, what would be his reaction in front of a today’s Ferrari?...
Believe or not, Enzo would be disappointed...
Let’s say that the only major participation of Ferrari in the world of highborn races, is in the Formula 1, but, for instance, Le Mans is a place that has not been stepped on by a Ferrari for quite some time, as it used to be and the main line of business for his company are... Yeah, you got it: street cars...
Yet, maybe the opinion of Enzo regarding the guest of this publication, namely, the 2010 Ferrari 599XX 2-Door Grand Tourer Berlinetta (Coupe) / Sports Car, would not be so unfavorable.
While this car was born as a Grand Tourer, that is to say a street car, the 599XX variant is a car intended for the use in tracks / circuits only and hence, it’s not street legal.
The car certainly looks meaner that its street counterpart and just like any other track ready machine, it was stripped down in the passengers compartment, not to mention the several changes in the panels of the body, to improve notoriously aerodynamics and it’s accompanied by an impressive powerplant: a 366 cu in, 6.0 L, F-140 CF V12 engine, rated at 730 hp and coupled to a 6-speed F1 automated manual transmission...
Nevertheless, what I don’t get so excited about is the design of the front, with those bug-like headlights; they just bug me and the successor, the F12berlinetta, has not managed to fix this inconsistency in terms of styling; in the end, Ferrari has been all about a particular italian beauty, isn’t that so?...
It looks like Hot Wheels tried to squeeze the revenues of its license agreement with Ferrari, while it was in force, until the end and since there is a critical mass of collectors interested in this car manufacturer, it makes sense, no doubt...
Now, this fact has been harnessed by hoarders and escalpers in order to raise prices inordinately and artificially, as I explained in this publication and that was to be expected, since the two elements necessary for this to happen are present: foolish buyers (or useful idiots, being precise) and unscrupulous sellers...
I’m not planning to become popular for saying these truths that few want to hear and actually I don’t care if this bothers certain "collectors" or "sellers"; after all, I have already been insulted by some of these coarse and misfit individuals, and I wasn’t expecting anything else from them so, I will spill some more "poison" on this matter every now and then, just because I’m convinced that ethics and common sense don’t quarrel with the good collectionism...
At all events, I’m not afraid to offend any honest and sensible collector (or honest and sensible seller, if I were on that side of the hobby), just because I’m one of them and maybe it sounds pretentious, but facts speak louder than words and here you have my blog and my collection, a reflection of my way of thinking...
I’m introducing a Ferrari 599XX that while is not the most beautiful stallion, it’s a really outstanding cast by Hot Wheels, one that was skillfully scaled down by an unknown designer, with a very good level of detail (except in the interiors, as always).
It has been 10 times in Regular and Adult lines, intermittently (2010, 2012 and 2015) and curiously, it has been featured in the Treasure Hunts Series 2 times; I got mine through the regular channels of distribution (a department store) and hence, I paid the regular price at that time, which is not a fair price, but it’s not too expensive either.
Obviously, you can check the prices of the Super / Hidden version of this model, ranging easily from US$40 to US$100 or more (without shipping rates) and you know what I think about people daring to pay that much for such model?...
SIMPLE, they are paying between US$39 and US$99 (or more) extra for those items, just for fun (or ignorance or whatever, but not for something sensible... Speaking about useful idiots...) and I will explain more profusely why I say so, in future publications...
My guest belongs to the HW Workshop - Thrill Racer (Treasure Hunts Regular) Series; it has diecast body and black plastic chassis; the paint job was made in dark gray with Metalflake finishing, complemented by a decoration of racing stripes on the hood and side panels, where a Ferrari emblem was also included, as well as tampos for the front lights (they could have thrown off some additional tampos, no?).
The windows are smoked, while the interiors are black; it has plastic wheels featuring Phil Riehlman 5 Spoke rims design, with chrome red contour and it was made in Malaysia...
Mat 8:5-13 "And when JESUS was entered into Capernaum, there came unto Him a centurion, beseeching Him, and saying: Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And JESUS saith unto him: I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said: Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man: go, and he goeth; and to another: come, and he cometh; and to my servant: do this, and he doeth it. When JESUS heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed: verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And I say unto you: that many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. And Jesus said unto the centurion: go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour."

Learn quite a bit on Enzo on this post. A good point out on debate on the motive of different collectors. Selling to me, come naturally to steam line collection at some point. Have met collectors through selling and eventually becoming real close friends within my neighborhood. Pricing should be reasonable and honesty will bring you a long way, I supposed. Back to the toy, blink blink there and the Ferrari logo never fail to thrill me! Lolz
I hate scaplers as well who buy lots of popular one just to reseller for higher prices to other collectors just because they are later to find it...
to Dennis:
It took me some time to realize the importance of the balance between price and what you get for it in a collectible... Most people in this hobby just buy whatever they want at any given price, regardless the impact of such behavior, just because they say: "it’s my money and I do what I please with it"... Then, "suddenly", an item with a US$1 price tag, becomes an item with a US$10 price tag and collectors begin to complaint, but they do not realize that some of them are direct responsible for this obtuseness... A responsible and sensible purchase is the best thing you can do as collector to keep the balance.. You always have the option of not buying something, when you feel it’s too expensive and the market will regulate itself by the law of supply and demand...
Oh and yeah, this scale replica shines nicely when the sun hits it, indeed is a great product by Hot Wheels and you don’t see this kind of things so often from the big blue brother !!!... =D
to LEon:
Greed is disgusting in any given context, it’s one of the worst blemish of humankind, it’s blatantly wrong, it’s hateful and yet some people belonging to this hobby (at least in a crooked sense, like parasites) is OK with that... I totally share your feeling regarding hoarders and scalpers, pal, but I also hate people who dare to call themselves collectors (!!!???) and still fund this bunch of swindlers, buying them items at obscene prices, keeping the vicious circle and hurting the hobby as a whole...
you bought a Ferrari!!!! WOW..... hehehehehe... good for you, welcome to the club hahahahaha..... they said this is the last Ferrari from Hot Wheels (at least for now)....
Uhmmm, actually I have some love to spare for Ferrari models and this publication includes the ones I have so far in my collection... But I have to admit that Enzo Ferrari is not a man of my affections and that I hate the people who brazenly charge an arm and a leg for each Hot Wheels Ferrari model, like they were gold bullion, something with which most collectors seem to agree and obviously I’m not included en such group... =D
