Aparentemente, la magia detrás de los Muscle Cars no ha perdido su brillo después de todos estos años y no luce como algo significativo, al menos no para el tipo promedio, porque varias clases de vehículos han tenido alguna continuidad en el tiempo...
Sin embargo, no estamos hablando de cualquier clase de auto, de hecho, los Muscle Cars con sus rasgos particulares fueron vehículos concebidos para una era diferente (mediados de los 60s hasta principios de 70s para ser preciso) así que, teóricamente, no deberían existir actualmente, no deberían encajar en nuestra era...
La inspiración para estos vehículos singulares vino probablemente de los Gran Turismo europeos, que en los 60s estaban en auge y prácticamente todas las marcas reputadas tenían uno o varios ejemplares de esta tipología entre sus ofertas, se vendían como pan caliente...
Las noticias sobre el formidable éxito de los GTs europeos viajó alrededor del mundo y los entusiastas americanos de los autos no fueron ajenos a estas tendencias, ellos querían algo de esa exuberancia en sus garajes y esto llegó a los oídos de ejecutivos en los mayores fabricantes de coches de los Estados Unidos.
La respuesta a esta "necesidad insatisfecha" fueron los Muscle Car americanos, cuya premisa básica era: un coupé 2 puertas familiar más bien pequeño, con cierta deportividad, equipado con un motor grande (grande en tamaño y/o desplazamiento) y si bien hubo intentos anteriores con este perfil, el Ford Mustang es el culpable de la locura alrededor de estos carros.
Desde luego, algunas personas reclamarán que el Mustang nació como un Pony Car, el cual para los estándares de los Estados Unidos es un vehículo compacto y este segmento estaba poblado principalmente por autos de tamaño mediano; con todo, sin el impulso del Mustang, los Muscle Cars habrían sido una empresa fallida...
Las ventas extraordinarias junto con un deseo oculto de crear un contendiente digno para el Corvette, fueron decisivos en Ford a la hora de buscar alianzas con el fin de mejorar el rendimiento y atractivo en el Mustang, ya que hubo planes en torno a la producción limitada de un fierro americano para la historia...
Mi invitado para esta publicación es uno de los herederos de una cooperación fructífera entre Ford Motor Company y Carroll Shelby International (particularmente la subsidiaria Shelby Automobiles): el Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang de 2008, un modelo que rinde tributo al GT500KR original hecho en 1968 y ¡qué tributo!...
Este Coupé 2 Puertas Fastback de Tamaño Mediano - Pony Car / Muscle Car / Auto Deportivo, toma como base un Shelby GT500 Mustang, el cual en las instalaciones de Shelby Automobiles, en Las Vegas, Nevada, es transformado en el KR, una sigla que significa King of the Road (Rey de la Carretera).
El apodo resulta ser bastante ampuloso, no obstante, es muy apropiado para esta versión especial del Shelby Mustang y es curioso, porque fue de alguna manera "arrebatado" del Corvette, el cual estaba a punto de usar KR para uno de sus modelos, por allá en 1968...
En el estado actual de cosas, el Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang para 2008 es un contrasentido, con su presencia despampanante, gracias a un diseño muy retro-inspirado (mejor en mi humilde opinión que el actual), dotado con un motor de 330 pulgadas cúbicas, 5.4 L, Modular Supercargado V8, clasificado en 540 hp, acoplado a una transmisión manual de 6 marchas, remapeado para un tiempo de curva más agresivo que exige el uso de combustible premium y es voraz: no debería existir, pero existe, ¡ve a saber porque!...
Jada Toys Inc., no es la clase de marca de diecast de la cual escuchas demasiado en grupos, foros, blogs o en charlas informales entre coleccionistas y hay algunas razones que he conocido de primera mano las cuales explican esta situación...
Para algunas personas en este gremio, Jada es completamente desconocida, lo cual es comprensible ya que al menos hasta no hace mucho, esta marca no estaba disponible ampliamente y su producción principalmente en escalas 1:24 y 1:18 no ayudaban mucho a su popularidad entre coleccionistas con restricciones de espacio para exhibición.
Esto ha estado cambiando y Jada está invirtiendo para la expansión a otras escalas como 1:64, 1:55, 1:32; también para incluir otros productos en su portafolio como figurinas en diecast, model kits en diecast, vehículos radio control y nuevas licencias como Hello Kitty, Marvel, Disney, DC, Fast & Furious y Transformers...
El enfoque de esta marca en vehículos personalizados, algunas veces ligeramente, algunas veces moderadamente, no es precisamente el deleite de muchos coleccionistas que prefieren modelos de serie y esa es otra razón para su popularidad relativamente baja, tiende a ser una marca de nicho.
Otras personas se quejan sobre la inconsistencia en la escala de Jada, especialmente en el segmento "1:64", algunas veces es la misma clase de gente que no dice una palabra sobre las obvias inconsistencias de escala de marcas como Hot Wheels y similares.
En la mayoría de casos, puedes encontrar información confiable sobre las dimensiones de modelos hechos por prácticamente cualquier fabricante de autos, desde luego, algunas veces la búsqueda es más difícil, especialmente con marcas oscuras, algunas clases de camiones o coches de carreras, dependiendo de su proveniencia.
He estado chequeando cuidadosamente esta información cada vez que publico algo relacionado con modelos basados en vehículos reales y adivina lo que encontré: la consistencia de escala, particularmente para marcas que trabajan en escalas pequeñas, es más un mito que una realidad y ni siquiera aquellas marcas de la categoría Premium son ajenas a este hecho.
Por ejemplo, solía creer que Kyosho era completamente fiel a la popular escala 1:64, pero ahora sé que oscila entre las escalas 1:63 y 1:67 o Auto World, cuyos modelos son en realidad escala 1:65 y así sucesivamente.
Este asunto de la exactitud en la escala no debería ser una preocupación tan seria de cualquier manera, incluso en el caso de aquellos que crean dioramas, porque cuanto más pequeña la escala, mayor la posibilidad de inexactitud: pequeñas divergencias son aceptables y añaden variedad, encanto a tu colección y eventualmente a tus dioramas...
Puesto que colecciono igualmente coches de serie y personalizados, además no soy demasiado incisivo con el asunto de la escala sino con el asunto de la calidad, decidí darle una oportunidad a Jada hace un tiempo y no me arrepiento...
Debo confesar que con respecto a calidad y acabados, Jada todavía tiene algunas inconsistencias, un problema que no es exclusivo de esta marca, pero con una selección cuidadosa puedes encontrar joyas que verdaderamente cumplen los requerimientos de la categoría De Lujo, a la cual pertenece esta marca norteamericana.
Esta interpretación del Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang de 2008 es maravillosa, con una apariencia bastante de serie, la proporción está bien excepto en las ruedas descomunales, pero lucen fabulosas y le dan a este carro un estilo dragster muy apropiado; lo conseguí con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador, hace 6 años.
Pertenece a la Serie Big Time -Muscle- Ola 16, una que está actualmente archivada (ya no se produce), la presentación estándar era un clamshell con una tarjeta dentro, impresa a todo color y parte del diseño está en relieve.
Tiene carrocería y chasis en diecast, se mantienen juntos con tornillos en lugar de remaches, lo que abre la puerta para personalización adicional; para el trabajo de pintura la elección fue una de las opciones de fábrica para el auto real, negro ébano con franjas de carreras negro ébano satinadas, complementado por tampos y/o calcomanías adicionales para los faros, luces de señal y niebla frontales, emblema Shelby Cobra sobre la parrilla y el logotipo de Shelby sobre el capó, también emblemas Shelby Cobra en los paneles laterales frontales, luces de cola, placa, logotipo Shelby y emblema Shelby Cobra sobre la tapa de combustible traseros; el chasis recibió pintura negra con acabado satinado y los tubos de escape fueron pintados en plateado.
Las ventanas son transparentes, los interiores bastante detallados fueron trabajados en negro pero el timón es cromado, las ruedas son multiparte, presentando diseño de rimes realista Shelby Cobra 427 5 Lug, con acabado cromado, llantas en caucho labradas de perfil extra bajo y fue hecho en China...

Apparently, the magic behind Muscle Cars has not lost its luster after all these years and it doesn’t look like something significant, at least not for the average Joe, because several kinds of vehicles have had some continuity in time...
However, we are not talking about any kind of car, in fact, Muscle Cars with their particular traits were vehicles conceived for a different era (the mid 60s until early 70s to be precise) so, theoretically, they shouldn’t exist currently, they shouldn’t fit in our era...
The inspiration for these singular vehicles came probably from the european Grand Tourers, which in the 60s were booming and virtually all reputed brands had one or several specimens of this typology among their offers, they were sold like hot cakes...
The news about the formidable success of european GTs traveled around the world and the american car enthusiasts were not alien to these trends, they wanted some of this lushness in their garages and it reached the ears of executives in the largest car makers of the United States.
The answer to this "unmet need" was the american Muscle Car, whose basic premise was: a rather small 2-door coupe family car, with certain sportiness, fitted with a big engine (big in size and/or displacement) and while there were previous attempts with this profile, the Ford Mustang is the one to blame for the craze around these cars.
Of course, some people will claim that the Mustang was born as a Pony Car, which by the standards in the United States is a compact vehicle and this segment was populated mainly by midsize cars; yet, without the impulse of the Mustang, Muscle Cars would have been a failed enterprise...
Extraordinary sales along with a hidden desire to create a worthy contender for the Corvette, were decisive in Ford at the time to look for alliances in order to improve performance and appealing in the Mustang, since there were plans around the limited production of an american iron for history...

This Midsize 2-Door Fastback Coupe - Pony Car / Muscle Car / Sports Car, takes as basis a Shelby GT500 Mustang, which in the facilities of Shelby Automobiles, in Las Vegas, Nevada, is transformed in the KR, an acronym that stands for King of the Road.
The moniker happens to be pretty bombastic, nonetheless, is very appropriate for this special version of the Shelby Mustang and it’s curious, because it was somehow "snatched" from the Corvette, which was about to use KR for one of its models, back in 1968...
In the current state of things, the Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang for 2008 is a countersense, with its stunning presence, thanks to a very retro-inspired design (better in my humble opinion than the current one), endowed with a 330 cu in, 5.4 L, Modular Supercharged V8 engine, rated at 540 hp, coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission, remapped for a more aggressive timing curve which demands the use of premium fuel and it’s voracious: it shouldn’t exist, but it does, go figure!...
Jada Toys Inc., is not the kind of diecast brand of which you hear too much in groups, forums, blogs or in informal talks among collectors and there are some reason I have known first hand which explain this situation...
For some people in this guild, Jada is completely unknown, which is understandable since at least until not long ago, this brand was not widely available and its production mainly in 1:24 and 1:18 scales didn’t help much to its popularity among collectors with space restrictions for exhibition.
This has been changing and Jada is investing for expansion to other scales like 1:64, 1:55, 1:32; also to include other products in its portfolio like diecast figurines, diecast model kits, radio control vehicles and new licenses like Hello Kitty, Marvel, Disney, DC, Fast & Furious and Transformers...
The focus of this brand on customized vehicles, sometimes slightly, sometimes moderately, is not precisely the delight of many collectors who prefer stock models and that’s another reason for its relatively low popularity, it tends to be a niche brand.
Other people complain about the scale inconsistency of Jada, specially in the "1:64" segment, sometimes is the same kind of people who don’t say a word about the obvious scale inconsistencies of brands like Hot Wheels and the like.
In most cases, you can find reliable information about the dimensions of models made by virtually any car manufacturer, of course, sometimes the search is more difficult, specially with obscure brands, some kinds of trucks or racing cars, depending on their provenance.
I have been checking carefully this information every time I publish something related with models based on actual vehicles and guess what I found: the scale consistency, particularly for brands that work in small scales, is more a myth than a reality and not even those brands from the Premium category are alien to this fact.
For instance, I used to believe that Kyosho was completely faithful to the popular 1:64 scale, but now I know that it ranges between 1:63 and 1:67 scales or Auto World, whose models are actually 1:65 scale and so on.
This matter of scale accuracy shouldn’t be such a serious concern either way, even in the case of those who create dioramas, because the smaller the scale, the greater the possibility of inaccuracy: small divergences are acceptable and add variety, charm to your collection and eventually to your dioramas...
Since I collect equally stock and custom cars, besides I’m not too trenchant with the subject of scale but with the subject of quality, I decided to give a chance to Jada a while ago and I don’t regret it...
I must confess that regarding quality and finishes, Jada has still some inconsistencies, an issue that is not exclusive of this brand, but with a careful selection you can find gems that truly meet the requirements of the Deluxe category, to which this american brand belongs.
This renditions of the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang is wondrous, with a pretty stock appearance, the proportion is fine except in the humongous wheels, but they look great and give this car a very appropriate dragster style; I got it it with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer, 6 years ago.
It belongs to the 2009 Big Time Series -Muscle- Wave 16, one that is currently archived (no longer produced), the standard presentation was a clamshell with a card inside, printed in full color and part of the design is embossed.
It has diecast body and chassis, they are kept together with screws instead of rivets, which opens the door for further customization; for the paint job the choice was one of the options from factory for the actual car, ebony black with satin ebony racing stripes, complemented by additional tampos and/or decals for the headlights, front signal and fog lights, Shelby Cobra emblem on the grille and Shelby logo on the hood, also Shelby Cobra emblems on the side front panels, tail lights, rear plate, Shelby logo and Shelby Cobra emblem on the fuel cap; the chassis received black paint with satin finishing and the exhaust pipes were painted in silver.
The windows are clear, the fairly detailed interiors were worked in black but the steering wheel is chrome, the wheels are multipart, featuring realistic Shelby Cobra 427 5 Lug rims design, with chrome finishing, extra low profile styled rubber tires and it was made in China...
