Si sientes que hoy en día prácticamente todo es fabricado con una calidad cada vez peor, o que lo que sea que compres tiende a volverse obsoleto en un lapso cada vez más corto, no estás alucinando, NO, por el contrario, estás despertando del poderoso efecto anestésico del consumismo... 

Como consecuencia de este consumismo, promovido a su vez por un nocivo sistema económico e ideológico que, con el fin de generar mucho dinero para unos pocos, te obsesiona con la falaz idea de la novedad, te ofrece productos y/o servicios desechables, para obligarte a reemplazarlos con cosas incluso más perecederas a medida que pasa el tiempo... 

Pero no siempre fue así, de hecho, los productos y servicios más antiguos solían ser hechos para durar, ofreciendo una calidad sobresaliente para soportar un uso intensivo o para generar un beneficio a largo plazo, año tras año, porque la ética solía ser también una parte esencial de los negocios. 

Solo para mencionar un ejemplo innegable de esta declaración, quizás hayas escuchado sobre la Luz Centenaria, la bombilla de luz incandescente de mayor duración en el mundo, en uso desde 1901 (casi nunca apagada), localizada en la 4550 East Avenue, Livermore, California y mantenida por el Departamento de Bomberos de Livermore-Pleasanton: un contraste completo con la vida útil de 1.000 horas usual para una bombilla incandescente en la actualidad, ¿no crees?

Y hay muchos otros ejemplos de la declaración anterior, como la invitada que estoy introduciendo para esta publicación: la Chevrolet Apache Series 3100 de 1959 Cabina Regular Fleetside Platón Regular Custom, una Camioneta Pickup de Tamaño 1/2 Tonelada Completo Clase 1 para Trabajo Liviano, una que aún puedes ver ya sea como caballo de trabajo abollado, una sobreviviente bien preservada, una belleza restaurada a su condición original o una resto-mod. 

Este modelo pertenece a la línea Task Force, lanzada en 1955 como una clara respuesta a los productos ofrecidos por Ford y Dodge por esa época, debemos recordar que los 50s fueron un periodo clave para el desarrollo del segmento de las camionetas pickup, porque fue entonces cuando estos vehículos dejaron de ser meras herramientas de trabajo y se convirtieron en productos de estilo de vida. 

El modelo para 1959, que heredó la designación Apache del modelo del año anterior, fue también la última de la línea Task Force y justo como el resto de productos en esta línea, tomó varios rasgos de diseño de la exitosa plataforma de autos de pasajeros (Chevy 150, 210, Bel Air, Nomad y Sedán Delivery), pero también de la agraciada Chevy Cameo Carrier de 1955, particularmente con respecto al platón (Fleetside), el cual fue introducido a la línea regular en 1958, junto con la opción Stepside, de nuevo, en respuesta a la elegante Camioneta Pickup Ford F-100 Styleside, que fue muy bien recibida en este mercado. 

Estas camionetas fueron hechas para durar, no solo en términos de calidad de materiales y construcción, su diseño fue desarrollado con un sentido de atemporalidad, estas personas querían crear cosas que pudieran resistir la prueba del tiempo, algo para ser recordados y lograron este objetivo: esto es el resultado lógico de un modelo de negocios basado en prácticas éticas, más bien que solo en el lucro obsceno... 

Ha pasado un largo tiempo desde que publiqué un modelo por M2 Machines y la razón es porque he estado explorando el mercado del diecast, llegando a conocer otras marcas, productos y enfoques diferentes más allá de la corriente principal, como cualquier coleccionista experimentado debería hacer... 

Esta travesía me ha permitido tener criterios más objetivos para evaluar el desempeño de varias marcas de este segmento de coleccionables y/o juguetes, las que conozco de primera mano, las cuales representan una buena porción de este mercado, simplemente porque puedo comparar: no podría decir si el producto ofrecido por cierta marca es bueno, sin una comparación apropiada, por eso es que no verás publicaciones parcializadas aquí, donde productos mediocres son adulados descaradamente. 

Mi primer encuentro con productos por M2 Machines (M2M) fue a finales de 2009, una época cuando la mayoría de coleccionistas en mi patria, Colombia, eran completamente inconscientes de la existencia de marcas más allá de Matchbox, Hot Wheels y Majorette; por ese tiempo, ya estaba coleccionando otra clase de cosas, así que no era fácil sorprenderme, pero M2M lo hizo. 

En una reseña futura, si DIOS permite, profundizaré un poquitín más acerca de mi experiencia con esta marca y mi percepción actual sobre ella; esta vez introduciré mis impresiones sobre mi invitada. 

Una vez conocí el trabajo de M2 Machines en coches de pasajeros de finales de los 40s a principios de los 70s, estaba ansioso de conocer de primera mano el trabajo de esta compañía en camiones y camionetas pickup, tenía expectativas altas y debo decir que fueron cumplidas. 

Conseguí esta Chevrolet Apache Fleetside de 1959 en el mercado secundario, con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador, hace más o menos 7 años; pertenece a la Serie Auto-Lift 2-Pack de 2013, Lanzamiento 9, este es un producto de la categoría De Lujo y como he mencionado en reseñas anteriores, con mejoras relativamente mínimas en el departamento de control de calidad, podría ser un producto de la categoría Premium. 

Ofrece construcción completa en diecast y en promedio, un modelo hecho por M2 Machines en escala 1:64 ostenta más de 32 piezas individuales (para algunos modelos, más de 40 piezas), lo cual es impresionante pero, por otro lado, es en el ajuste de estas piezas diminutas donde M2M falla de forma regular, afortunadamente en este modelo el ajuste es bastante bueno. 

El trabajo de pintura fue hecho en negro con acabado brillante y complementado por una decoración agradable y sobria con tampos y/o calcomanías sobre todos los paneles de la carrocería, en plateado, negro rojo y blanco; hay varios insertos plásticos para las molduras frontales de las luces, parrilla y bómper, también para el bómper trasero, con acabado cromado. 

Ofrece apertura de capó y puertas, bahía del motor detallada y pintada, los interiores fueron bien detallados también, trabajados en un gris muy claro, con acentos pintados en negro, las ruedas multiparte ofrecen diseño de rimes realista con acabado cromado, llantas en caucho labradas, delgadas al frente y muy anchas en la parte de atrás, las cuales dan a la camioneta una ligera pinta custom dragster que le sienta como un guante y fue hecha en China...

If you feel that nowadays virtually everything is manufactured with an increasingly worse quality, or that whatever you buy tends to become obsolete in an increasingly shorter span, you’re not hallucinating, NO, on the contrary, you’re waking up from the powerful anesthetic effect of consumerism... 

As a consequence of this consumerism, promoted in turn by a noxious economic and ideological system that, in order to generate big money for a few, obsesses you with the fallacious idea of novelty, it offers you disposable products and/or services, to force you to replace them with even more perishable things as time goes by... 

But it was not always like that, in fact, older products and services used to be made to last, offering an outstanding quality to endure an intensive use or to generate a long-term benefit, year after year, because ethics used to be as well an essential part of business. 

Just to mention an undeniable example of this statement, perhaps you’ve heard about the Centennial Light, the world’s longest-lasting incandescent light bulb, in use since 1901 (almost never switched off), located at 4550 East Avenue, Livermore, California and maintained by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department: a full contrast with the usual 1,000 hours lifespan of an average incandescent bulb currently, don’t you think so?

And there are many other examples of the previous statement, like the guest I’m introducing for this publication: the 1959 Chevrolet Apache Series 3100 Regular Cab Fleetside Regular Bed Custom, a Full Size 1/2 Ton Class 1 Light Duty Pickup Truck, one that you can still see either as a battered workhorse, a well preserved survivor, a fully restored to its original condition beauty or a pristine resto-mod. 

This model belongs to the Task Force line, released in 1955 as a clear response to the products offered by Ford and Dodge by that time, we must remember that the 50s were a key period for the development of the pickup trucks segment, because it was then when these vehicles stopped being mere work tools and became lifestyle products. 

The model for 1959, that inherited the Apache designation from the model of the previous year, was also the last one of the Task Force line and just like the rest of the products in this line, it took several design traits from the successful passenger car platform (Chevy 150, 210, Bel Air, Nomad and Sedan Delivery), but also from the graceful 1955 Chevy Cameo Carrier, particularly regarding the bed (Fleetside), which was introduced to the regular line in 1958, alongside with the Stepside option, again, in response to the elegant Ford F-100 Styleside Pickup Truck, that was very well received in this market. 

These trucks were made to last, not only in terms of quality of materials and construction, their design was developed with a sense of timelessness, these people wanted to create things that could withstand the test of time, something to be remembered and they achieved this goal: it’s the logical result of a model of business based on ethical practices, rather than just on obscene profit... 

It’s being a long time since I published a model by M2 Machines and the reason is because I have been exploring the diecast market, getting to know other brands, different products and approaches beyond the mainstream, as any experienced collector should do... 

This journey has allowed me to have more objective criteria to evaluate the performance of several brands of this segment of collectibles and/or toys, the ones I know first hand, which represent a good portion of this market, just because I can compare: I couldn’t say if the product offered by a certain brand is good, without a proper comparison, that’s why you don’t see biased publications here, where mediocre products are flattered blatantly. 

My first encounter with products by M2 Machines (M2M) was in late 2009, a time when most collectors in my homeland, Colombia, were completely unaware of the existence of brands beyond Matchbox, Hot Wheels and Majorette; by that time, I was already collecting other kind of stuff, so it’s not easy to surprise me, but M2M did it. 

In a future review, if GOD allows, I will deepen a little bit more on my experience with this brand and my current perception about it; this time I will introduce my impressions about my guest. 

Once I knew the work of M2 Machines on passenger cars from the late 40s to the early 70s, I was eager to knew first hand the work of this company on trucks and pickup trucks, I had high expectations and I must say that they were fulfilled. 

I got this 1959 Chevrolet Apache Fleetside in the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer, pretty much 7 years ago; it belongs to the 2013 Auto-Lift 2-Pack Series, Release 9, this is a product of the Deluxe category and as I have mentioned in previous reviews, with relatively minimal improvements in the quality control department, it could be a product of the Premium category. 

It offers full diecast construction and in average, a model made by M2 Machines in 1:64 scale boasts more than 32 individual pieces (for some models, more than 40 pieces), which is impressive but, on the other hand, it’s in the adjustment of these tiny pieces where M2M fails in a regular basis, fortunately in this model the adjustment is pretty good. 

The paint job was made in black with glossy finishing and complemented by a nice and sober decoration with tampos and/or decals on all the panels of the body, in silver, black, red and white; there are several plastic inserts for the front moldings of the lights, grille and bumper, also for the rear bumper, with chrome finishing. 

It offers opening hood and doors, detailed and painted engine bay, the interiors are well detailed too, worked in a very light gray, with accents painted in black, the multipart wheels offer realistic rims design with chrome finishing, styled rubber tires, skinny in front and very wide at the rear, which give the truck a mild custom dragster look that fits the model like a glove and it was made in China...
