Habiendo estado en las manos de al menos 8 compañías / conglomerados a través de su historia en la industria automotriz, a saber: Willys-Overland, Kaiser Motors, American Motors Corporation, Chrysler Corporation, Daimler-Chrysler AG, Chrysler Group LLC, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles y Stellantis, el Jeep ha experimentado varias transformaciones...
Cada uno de sus dueños ha dejado una huella en el Jeep como producto, pero también como concepto, como tipología, obviamente algunos más que otros y puedes ver claramente estas huellas en cómo este vehículo ha cambiado con el tiempo, en un proceso que difícilmente puedes llamar una evolución, porque en la mayoría de casos estos cambios son cualquier cosa menos graduales...
La austeridad, simplicidad, practicidad así como el carácter eminentemente industrial del Jeep militar original son un asunto del pasado, un eco distante de un tiempo cuando las personas eran menos frívolas y los vehiculos eran más honestos, más sencillos.
El Jeep ha "aprendido" a ser algo ostentoso, sofisticado, su estilo general fue suavizado y "civilizado", aunque su practicidad y capacidades todoterreno todavía permanecen; pero este "nuevo" Jeep es de alguna forma el reflejo de la mayoría de usuarios contemporáneos de esta clase de productos, una generación de "adictos-a-la-comodidad", demasiado indulgentes para una experiencia todoterreno real.
Mi invitada para esta publicación: la Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2 L V6 4x4 (Serie KL) de 2014, una VDU Crossover Compacta 5 Puertas / Todoterreno, es un modelo desarrollado durante la era Fiat Chrysler Automobiles y es un ejemplo patente de la visión actual con respecto a los productos Jeep.
Esta crossover (en el uso tradicional, pero muy arbitrario del término, algo que expliqué aquí) está basada en una plataforma de automóvil, más específicamente en la Fiat Compact Wide (Fiat Compacta Amplia), desarrollada entre Chrysler y Fiat para un vehículo de tamaño intermedio (entre compacto y de tamaño mediano), muy en la vena de vehículos similares como: Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Nissan Xterra, Audi Q5, Mitsubishi Outlander o Land Rover Freelander.
Ahora, hay dos factores principales que llamaron mi atención a este modelo: su diseño exterior algo peculiar, donde puedes ver una combinación de los estilos de Fiat y Chrysler / Jeep (no necesariamente su mayor fortaleza, pero lo suficientemente diferente para hacer una declaración) y el hecho que este vehículo ha estado disponible en el mercado local de mi patria (Colombia, Suramérica) y para mí es muy interesante un modelo, incluso en la forma de auto de juguete, representando algo que puedo ver en persona...
Consistencia en el tiempo no es precisamente una de las virtudes de las que Mattel y sus marcas de coches de juguete en diecast pudiese alardear (aunque lo hacen muy a menudo, ya sabes, a través de campañas de mercadeo engañosas) y es algo de esperar, especialmente del conglomerado más grande en este segmento: grandes cifras de producción habitualmente significan grandes posibilidades de errores garrafales...
Pero algunas veces, no muy a menudo en realidad, Hot Wheels y Matchbox tienen momentos brillantes, productos atractivos en la forma de carros de juguete y pienso que ese es el caso con mi invitada para esta reseña, bueno, mirándola como un todo, porque tiene algunos aspectos que restan valor al resultado final, con todo el balance es favorable...
La conseguí a través del mercado primario, en una tienda minorista local, aunque en ese momento la distribución era complicada (curiosamente, hubo un lapso de más o menos 2 años cuando la distribución funcionó mejor, pero luego la "pandemia" arribó), fue hace alrededor de 5 años.
Pertenece a la Serie MBX Explorers de 2016, parte de la Línea Principal de Matchbox, ha tenido al menos 4 iteraciones, incluyendo variaciones, todas para líneas de la categoría Regular (hubo una ofrecida en una línea intermedia, que tiene un precio de casi el doble, pero no ofrece el doble de calidad general así que es otra movida de Mattel de cobrar más por sus productos más baratos, ¡qué fiasco!).
Tiene carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico negro, el molde de los interiores en gris incluye los guardabarros, paneles laterales inferiores, bómperes frontal y trasero, luego está en el borde entre un diecast y un plastcast, además, su acabado lustroso arruina la apariencia: si fuera finamente texturizado, luciría mucho más realista, reproduciendo los acabados en el vehículo real; presenta un nivel de detalle más que decente.
El trabajo de pintura fue hecho en azul oscuro con acabado Metalflake, complementado por tampos y/o calcomanías para detalles en el frente (emblema del capó, parrilla frontal, ganchos de remolque, faros delanteros, luces de cola y emblemas en la parte trasera), mínimos pero muy bien aplicados y siempre lo prefiero de esa manera.
Los interiores tienen un nivel de detalle básico, las ventanas son solo ligeramente ahumadas y como es usual recientemente, incluyen los pilares B y C: sin tampos luce crudo, burdo y deberían ser moldeados con la carrocería en diecast, pero las políticas de recorte de costos de Mattel harán de los plastcast la norma para sus autos de juguete de la Línea Principal, así que, en lo que a mí concierne, pueden quedarse con su basura plástica, estoy fuera; las ruedas plásticas presentan diseño de rimes 6 Spokes Sport en plateado y fue hecha en Tailandia...

Each one of its owners has left an imprint in the Jeep as product, but also as concept, as typology, obviously some more than others and you can see clearly these imprints in how this vehicle has changed over time, in a process that you can hardly call an evolution, because in most cases those changes are anything but gradual...
The austerity, simplicity, practicality as well as the eminently industrial character of the original military Jeep are a matter of the past, a distant echo of a time when people were less frivolous and vehicles were more honest, more straightforward.
The Jeep has "learned" to be kinda ostentatious, sophisticated, its overall styling was softened and "civilized", although its practicality and off-road capabilities still remain; but this "new" Jeep is somehow the reflection of most contemporary users of this kind of products, a generation of "comfort-junkies", too lenient for an actual off-road experience.
My guest for this publication: the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2 L V6 4x4 (KL Series), a Compact 5-Door Crossover SUV / Off-Road, is a model developed during the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles era and it’s a patent example of the current vision regarding Jeep products.
This crossover (in the traditional, but very arbitrary use of the term, something I explained here) is based on an automobile platform, more specifically the Fiat Compact Wide, developed between Chrysler and Fiat for a vehicle of intermediate size (between compact and mid-size), very in the vein of similar vehicles like: Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Nissan Xterra, Audi Q5, Mitsubishi Outlander or Land Rover Freelander.
Now, there are two main factors that drew my attention to this model: its kinda quirky exterior design, where you can see the combination of Fiat and Chrysler / Jeep styles (not necessarily its greatest strength, but different enough to make a statement) and the fact that this vehicle has been available in the local market of mi homeland (Colombia, South America) and for me is very interesting a model, even in the form of toy car, representing something I can see in the flesh...
Consistency over time is not precisely one of the virtues of which Mattel and its diecast toy cars brands could flaunt (albeit they do so very often, you know, through deceiving marketing campaigns) and that’s something to be expected, specially from the largest conglomerate in this segment: large figures of production usually mean big chances of blunders...
But sometimes, not so often actually, Hot Wheels and Matchbox have brilliant moments, appealing products in the form of toy cars and I think that’s the case with my guest for this review, well, looking at it as a whole, because it has some aspects that detract from the final result, yet the balance is favorable...
I got it though the primary market, in a local chain retail store, albeit at that moment distribution was tricky (curiously, there was a span of pretty much 2 years when distribution worked better, but then the "pandemic" arrived), it was around 5 years ago.
It belongs to the 2016 MBX Explorers Series, part of the Mainline of Matchbox, it has had at least 4 iterations, including variations, all for lines in the Regular category (there was one offered in a intermediate line, which is priced almost double, but it doesn’t offer double the usual overall quality so it’s another move by Mattel to charge more for its cheaper products, what a fiasco!).
It has diecast body and black plastic chassis, the mold of the interiors in gray includes the mud guards, rocker panels, front and rear bumpers, so it’s in the edge between a diecast and a plastcast, besides, its lustrous finishing ruins the appearance: if it were finely texturized, it would look much more realistic, reproducing the finishes in the actual vehicle; it features a more than decent level of detail.
The paint job was made in dark blue with Metalflake finishing, complemented by tampos and/or decals for details on the front (hood emblem, front grille, tow hooks, headlights, tail lights and emblems at the rear), minimal but very well placed and I always prefer that way.
The interiors have a basic level of detail, the windows are only slightly smoked and as it’s usual recently, include the B and C pillars: without tampos it looks crude, coarse and they should be molded with the body in diecast, but the costs-cutting policies of Mattel will make plastcast the norm for its toy cars of the Mainline, so as far as I’m concerned, they can keep their plastic rubbish, I’m out; the plastic wheels feature 6 Spokes Sport rims design in silver and it was made in Thailand...
