ENGLISH Some people would say that there is a clear line dividing sports cars from racing cars and it looks like a consistent claim in the current era, when car companies, just like other companies, are creating vehicles increasingly attuned to the tastes of different types of customers / drivers or so they say...
But as always, in practice and when you take a look at this statement from the historical standpoint, it’s very disputable because, well, there were times when races didn’t have anything to do with sports cars and there were times as well when sports cars, with or without modifications, became racing cars, some of them quite famous, by the way...
The fact that motorsports are in essence reliability trials, is by itself the main reason why the most reputed car manufacturers are so interested in participating in this kind of events, also in supporting their own racing teams and/or high performance divisions...
Chevrolet, as I mentioned in a previous review, was not a brand associated with sportiness or high performance, but it was co-founded by a noted Swiss-American racing driver and it has to mean something.
It took more than 40 years to see the first flirt of the brand of the bow tie with sports cars, albeit the result of these efforts was still far from a true vehicle of this kind, rather it was just a show car with a sleek design and pretty much the size of a Chevy Sedan.
The first Corvette, released in 1953 after an excellent reception by potential buyers, was not a car with good behavior in tracks, due to its combination of big size, low power and poor structural rigidity.
However, the timely intervention of a Belgian born American engineer: Zora Arkus Duntov, changed all these drawbacks and the involvement of Corvette in motorsports was just a matter of time, little time, in fact...
My guest for this publication is a great example of how far has come Corvette when it comes to success in long breath races: the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6-R, a Fastback 2_Door Coupe, was a Racing Car prepared for the IMSA GT Championship, in the GT1 Class, introduced for the 35th American Le Mans Series...
The car, built by Pratt & Miller Engineering and Fabrication, with a close collaboration of General Motors and Katech which sourced the engine, was part of the Corvette Racing Team as one of the vehicles used for that season, sponsored mainly by Compuware: this one is the # 4, driven by Oliver Gavin from United Kingdom and Olivier Beretta from Monaco; it shared the first places in their class with its counterpart the # 3 and ran on the circuits of: Lime Rock, Portland, Road America, Mosport, Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca...
There was another iteration of this Leviathan on wheels, of which you can read here, just in case you want to explore more on Corvette’s history in racing...
If you didn’t take Corvette seriously as racing car until now, because it’s just a sports car, an American one, probably it’s about time to change your mind because your perception just don’t fit reality...
In a previous publication (of which you can read here), I mentioned that Jada Toys Inc., (an American manufacturer of collectibles mainly in diecast, including car models, figurines and RC vehicles, headquartered in California) has an up to a point specific approach on customized vehicles (other brands have products with this focus too, but Jada is pioneer)...
Nonetheless, just like it happens with other companies in this segment, sometimes Jada throws us odd balls and that’s always very welcome for any experienced collector, because we are open minded enough to appreciate items that apparently don’t fit what you should expect from a particular brand: too much of the same stuff could hurt a brand and a refreshing oddity helps quite a bit in that sense.
Models based on actual racing cars are precisely the kind of oddities I’m mentioning, because if you look at Jada’s portfolio available at its website, you will see barely 2 items fulfilling this requirement, my guest for this review is one of them, the other was based in the Corvette C6R # 3, in white.
I got this item from the Deluxe category with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer, more than 6 years ago; it belongs to the 2009 Big Time Muscle / Track Series, Wave 16, the line is currently discontinued, the presentation was a clamshell with a colorful card inside, printed in full color and part of the design is embossed.
It has diecast body and chassis, they are kept together with screws instead of rivets and that’s an usual feature for these products by Jada; the paint job reproduces very well that of the actual car in the official yellow for Corvette Racing, complemented by tampos and/or decals for the headlights, front signal and fog lights, tail lights, rear plate and many sponsors logos, however, some of them are missing, I don’t know if it was a matter of licensing: I aplaud the effort anyway, it’s excellent value for money; the chassis received black paint with satin finishing.
The windows are clear and received tampos as well, another great addition, the fairly detailed interiors were worked in black and include the safety cage, the rear wing is a plastic insert with more tampos, the wheels are multipart, featuring a realistic rims design, quite similar to the OZ Racing 15 Spoke used in the actual car, with chrome finishing (the actual ones were silver with satin finishing), extra low profile styled rubber tires and it was made in China...
Ezk 20:13-20 "But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them. But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out. Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands; because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols. Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness. But I said unto their children in the wilderness: walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols: I am the LORD your GOD; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; and hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your GOD."
I’m always fascinated by cars with lots of decals and this GT Chevrolet is no exception. I noticed there is Malaysia 🇲🇾 flag. Could it be a Malaysian driver representing Chevrolet in the race? Anyway, cool details on the replica.
Racing cars are also one of my favorite topics when it comes to diecast models based on actual vehicles and once in a while I’m able to get a small gem that is very welcome to my collection... Regarding your mention of the Malaysian flag, well, I’m sorry pal, that’s an U.S. flag, just because Corvette Racing is American (albeit pilots can be from somewhere else, in this case, from U.K. and Monaco)...

I’m a professional graphic designer and a restful collector, but above all: I’m someone who doesn’t take for granted anything, just because someone else says so. I think this hobby goes way beyond buying stuff here and there: anybody with money can buy collectibles, but not anybody becomes collector by doing so. I think as well that this hobby is, more than anything, about knowledge, about making sense of what happens around us and just like any other kind of knowledge, if it’s devoid of ethics, is worthless. I like to address topics around collectionism, including, but not limited to: history, industry, forums, groups, collectors, distributors, sellers, etc. I’m fully aware that criticism is essential for our hobby: everything is susceptible of improvement and we the collectors demand quality, but the industry around it doesn’t necessarily shares that vision. After all, well-targeted criticism always helps to detect failures and correct them, it’s like critical thinking: it helps you see things as they really are and not just as how they are presented to you. If you are someone who likes to look beyond the surface, welcome, if that is not the case, continue at your own risk...
