Hay una antigua ciudad en el sur-occidente de Francia, más precisamente en el departamento Pyrénées-Atlantiques, región Aquitaine, distrito Bayonne, la cual, por una razón que explicaré después, tiene que ver un montón con esta publicación...
Cuando digo antigua, lo digo en serio, o ¿cómo describirías una ciudad fundada a principios del siglo XII d.C.?...
Ya que esta es una ciudad costera, su economía y actividades comerciales, están fuertemente basadas en el mar (y marginalmente en la agricultura).
Por ejemplo, fue un asentamiento para la caza de ballenas prácticamente desde el principio y desde entonces; además, probablemente, fue un puerto de alguna importancia, después de todo, está localizada apenas a 11 millas (18 km) de la fontera con España.
Estas dos actividades, por sí solas, pueden generar una economía saludable, pero no generan necesariamente una buena reputación o la hacen un destino prominente...
Por el siglo XVIII, se creía ampliamente que el mar en frente de esta ciudad, tenía propiedades terapéuticas así que, hubo un nutrido peregrinaje a esta playa...
Pero no fue sino hasta 1854 (cuando la emperatriz Eugenia, esposa de Napoleón III, construyó un palacio en dicha playa), que esta ciudad se hizo realmente famosa.
Hoy en día, Biarritz, la ciudad sobre la que he estado hablando, es un importante destino turístico, visitada por muchas personalidades de la pintura, literatura, teatro, fotografía, deportes náuticos y la aristocracia, entre otras...
La historia, o debería decir: a medida que pasa el tiempo, las cosas cambian, algunas veces dramáticamente y bueno, después de más de ocho siglos, puedes ver un pueblo de granjeros y pescadores convertirse en un punto de referencia global para la salud, el ocio, el arte, el deporte, la cultura, la tecnología y más que todo: el lujo y el placer...
Ahora, pienso que podemos hacer una conexión más "natural" entre un lugar geográfico y un auto mítico de finales de los 50s.
El Cadillac ElDorado Biarritz Convertible de 1959 es un mito sobre ruedas, un extravagante, enorme y lujoso mito debo decir (en la "acepción" norteamericana del término) y si hay un coche norteamericano que nadie confundirá, es este...
Afortunadamente (eso espero), parte del más bien largo nombre de este sorprendente vehículo, tiene un poco de sentido después de un vistazo al pasado, al presente y al trasfondo de una ciudad, pero hay más información que revelaré en una publicación futura, con el fin de hacer un homenaje apropiado a semejante hito automotriz...
Por ahora, revisemos una interpretación particular hecha por el gran hermano Hot Wheels...
Soy un gran admirador de este modelo, es decir, del carro real y a pesar de su popularidad, relativamente pocos fabricantes de diecast en escala 1:64 y similares, han hecho réplicas basadas en él...
Puedo recordar en este mismo momento: Johnny Lightning (no tan fácil de encontrar y algo caro), Racing Champions (Action Racing) y Road Champs (con capota removible y apertura de puertas).
Sin embargo, ahora que Johnny Lightning (al menos, con respecto a la producción diecast) y Road Champs están extintas, y Hot Wheels tiene una licencia exclusiva para producir Cadillacs en escala pequeña, no verás otros fabricantes ofreciéndolo.
No hay información sobre el diseñador involucrado en la creación de este molde (aunque moldes relacionados fueron creados por Mark Jones y Larry Wood), pero ciertamente fue lanzado por primera vez en 1991, como parte de la serie California Customs, una línea Regular.
Debo decir que este modelo luce raro, chistoso e incluso feo, principalmente a causa de la proporción: es simplemente demasiado estrecho, el parabrisas es demasiado plano, el parachoques delantero es más grande de lo que debería y las ruedas delanteras sobresalen de la carrocería, lo cual no es el caso en el auto real...
No obstante, lo necesito en mi colección porque me encanta el Caddy del 59, ¡tan simple como eso!...
Conseguí dos diecast de este modelo.
El primero presenta carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico cromado; pertenece a una línea Regular y tiene un bonito trabajo de pintura en azul con acabado Metalflake, decoración en blanco con acentos en plateado, incluyendo un par de tampos de ElDorado en negro para los paneles laterales y un par de símbolos pinstripe sobre el capó y el baúl, parabrisas tintado de azul, los interiores son blancos, simplones y las ruedas Wire Spoke Lace en plástico son la elección correcta.
Por otra parte, tenemos una versión que pertenece a la Serie Auto Milestones, una línea Adulta hecha exclusivamente para Walmart y empacada en clamshell; presenta carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico cromado, el trabajo de pintura en rojo policromado y decoración en blanco y plateado, incluyendo un llamativo logo de la Serie sobre el baúl, son grandiosos; los tampos incluyen las luces delanteras y direccionales y está complementado por ruedas Real Riders en caucho con rimes Chrome Hub y franjas blancas sobre las llantas...
¡Un diseño audaz como este, merece otra oportunidad!...

The 1959 Cadillac ElDorado Biarritz Convertible is a myth on wheels, a flamboyant, huge and luxurious myth I must say (in the "American" meaning of this word) and if there is an american car nobody will mistake is this...
Fortunately (I hope so), part of the rather long name of this amazing vehicle, makes a little sense after a glimpse to the past, the present and the background of a city, but there is more information I will reveal in a future publication, in order to pay an appropriate homage to such automotive milestone...

I’m a huge fan of this model, I mean, the actual car, and despite its popularity, relatively few diecast makers in 1:64 and similar scales, have made replicas based on it...
I can remember at this very moment: Johnny Lightning (not so easy to find and kinda expensive), Racing Champions (Action Racing) and Road Champs (with removable soft top and openable doors).
However, now that Johnny Lightning (at least, regarding diecast production) and Road Champs are extincted, and Hot Wheels has an exclusive license to produce small-scale Cadillacs, you will not see other manufacturers offering it.
There is no info about the designer involved in the creation of this cast (although related molds were created by Mark Jones and Larry Wood), but certainly it was released for the first time in 1991, as part of the California Customs Series, a regular line.
I must say that this model looks odd, funny and even ugly, mainly because of the proportion: is just too narrow, the windshield is too plain, the front bumper is bigger than it should and the front wheels protrude from the body, which is not the case in the actual car...
Nonetheless, I need it in my collection because I love the ’59 Caddy, as simple as that!...
I got two diecast of this model.
The first one, features diecast body and chrome plastic chassis, belongs to a Regular line and has a nice paint job in blue with Metalflake finishing, decoration in white with silver accents, including a pair of ElDorado tampos in black for the side panels and a pair of pinstripe symbols on the hood and trunk, blue tinted windshield, the interiors are white, nitwit and the Wire Spoke Lace Wheels in plastic are the right choice.
On the other hand, we have a version which belongs to the Auto Milestones Series, an Adult line made exclusively for Walmart and packaged in clamshell, features diecast body and chrome plastic chassis, the paint job in red polychrome and decor in white and silver, including a showy logo of the Series on the trunk are great, the tampos include the head and directional lights and is complemented by Real Riders rubber tires with Chrome Hub rims and white stripes on the tires...
A bold design like this, deserves another chance!...

I see a limousine style of bonnet that's wide and luxurious. Yet, the open concept of the interior and tail fins on the rear so how reminded me of the vintage batmobile. Overall, it gave a fun and relaxing mood.
this car in fact comes from a lineage of limousines, in the tradition of Cadillac... you mentioned that it reminds you the old Batmobile, well, the Batmobile from the TV series of the 60s, was based on the Lincoln Futura, Lincoln is the luxury division of Ford and the direct competitor of Cadillac so, it makes a lot of sense... the ’59 Caddy is truly a spectacle on wheels and steals all eyes wherever it goes !!!... =)
